WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE IN FOUR YEARS?

It’s an exciting time in your life! It’s also overwhelming.

You’re working out the details of what the next four years of your life will look like. There are a lot of factors to weigh as you decide at which college you will spend your time and money, including cost, major field of study, location and campus life, just to name a few. As you weigh your options, don’t forget to consider the most important factor: “What comes after college?”

Will you spend the next four years in a community where each person — from faculty and staff to peers and alumni — is committed to helping you become the major version of yourself? Will your college experience provide you with not only the knowledge but also the experiences to help you answer the question “What’s next?” with confidence after graduation?

We’re here to help you figure it out. Since 1890, Millsaps College has been guiding students like you to lead the lives they want. Now it’s your turn.

WE CAN’T WAIT TO HELP YOU BECOME THE MAJOR VERSION OF YOURSELF.

“One thing I have mastered in college is making fun memories while keeping up with academics. It is truly a rewarding feeling to know that you can excel with both at Millsaps because you are surrounded by ambitious people who have the same goals as you, but they want to enjoy their college experience as well!”

A lot can happen on 100 acres.

The Millsaps community is like no other. Our students are eager to learn, lead and connect with each other.

At Millsaps, you will find a community where there’s always something to do. You will build connection over meals in The Caf, a cup of coffee at ecoGrounds or a late-night snack at Reuben’s. You can study alone or with a group in the McRae Christian Center or on a blanket in The Bowl. Need to burn off some steam before an exam? The Hall Activities Center provides a weight room, cardio equipment and workout classes.

Millsaps College was founded in 1890 as a Methodist-related institution and emphasizes scholarly inquiry and spiritual growth. Millsaps’ lineage is one of service, social justice and critical reflection on the most important questions in life.

In 2019, the college dedicated the Selby & Richard McRae Christian Center, home of Yates Chapel, in a celebration of Millsaps as a home for humanities in the Wesleyan tradition of the college’s Methodist roots.

MA J OR EXPERIENCE

Hands-on learning is the heart of a Millsaps education. We call it the Major Experience.

Perhaps you want to work with your neuroscience professor as they develop the next breakthrough in preventing traumatic brain injuries (TBIs). Maybe you want to use your classroom experience to help your community by interning at a local nonprofit. Or maybe your dream is to study abroad and immerse yourself in a different culture. Wherever your ambitions lie, the Major Experience will take you there.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH

Research is woven throughout many of the courses found at Millsaps College. From market research in a business class to studying the link between racism and Shakespeare’s Othello, our excellent faculty will guide you as you delve past the surface into your favorite subject.

30

CAREER EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

At Millsaps, we believe our students learn best by doing. The Millsaps Center for Career Education and our Community Engaged Learning academic program provide our students with connections to the world outside of Millsaps. These connections include internships, career resources, interview preparation and job-search coaching.

MA JOR PATHWAYS

You have interests. We can help you create a path to success based on them.

Some students know what they will do after college before they start high school, while others use their college years to explore the possibilities.

Millsaps’ Pathways Program is there for both.

IN THE PATHWAYS PROGRAM, YOU WILL:

• Be supported by the entire Millsaps community, including peers, professors, staff and alumni.

• Follow your interests and curiosity to build the career that’s right for you.

• Learn the skills you need to have a successful life.

31

MA J OR EXPLORATION

At Millsaps, we believe in learning by connecting to the global community.

Our nationally renowned study abroad programs provide our students with unique opportunities to apply what they learn in the classroom around the globe. Here are just a few of the many ways you can do some major exploration:

SPANISH IN THE YUCATÁN

Practice your Spanish by immersing yourself in the language, culture and history of the Yucatán Peninsula. Your learning will take place in the midst of the Millsaps College Biocultural Reserve, a 4,500-acre tropical forest reserve operated by Millsaps that serves as the center for our Living in the Yucatán Program.

NEW MUSIC, OLD: THE KALEIDOSCOPE OF INFLUENCES ON TAIWAN’S NEW MUSIC

Investigate music as a cultural marker, looking at two faces of Taiwanese music — popular (Mando-Pop, Taiyu, Hakka and aboriginal artists) and modern classical composition — placing the music in both the cultural and political contexts of the island.

FIELD STUDY IN INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT

Travel throughout Europe to explore new cultures, gain valuable career training and experience an in-depth study of international business.

Millsaps is able to offer scholarships and financial aid to qualified students thanks to the generosity of our supporters.

So the only question you need to ask yourself is, “Where do I want to go?”
