Photos by George Neal
The Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival lit up downtown’s parks and streets for the 15th season during its switch-flipping ceremony, the Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival Kick- Off Extravaganza, Thursday November 21, 2013, in Pere Marquette Park. Festivities began with a holiday variety show which included performance ice sculpting by Ice Beat Factory; live music by Spider George & The Web and The Tempters; skits by The Rep and First Stage; and dancing by Danceworks Youth Performance Company and Studio VIA. The show’s guest of honor, Santa Claus, flipped the switch on downtown’s décor with Mayor Tom Barrett, County Executive Chris Abele and Alderman Bob Bauman. A holiday -themed fireworks display topped off the night. Free hot cocoa and cookies were available, compliments of Cousins Subs® on Old World Third and State Streets. Following the park lighting, families were invited to tour downtown Milwaukee’s sights with free Jingle Bus rides presented by T-Mobile Operated by Wireless Vision, LLC. Lighted scenes include “Community Spirit Park” at Cathedral Square Park, “Electric Elves” at Pere Marquette Park and “Musical Bears” at Zeidler Union Square. The Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival will illuminate downtown parks and streets Nov. 21 through Dec. 29.
