Order of Service

A Time to be Born - This story of Ada Mae Jones is a true American story of love, life and resilience. Ada Mae was born to Major “Pig” Hamilton and Elmyra Brooks Hamilton on July 19, 1921 in Panola County, Mississippi. She was the fourth child of ten children.

A Time to Build - Ada accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Robina Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Wash McAfee. In her early years, she served as a Sunday School teacher. She later served on the Mother’s Board where she remained faithful until her health failed.

Viewing

Ada Mae received her formal education in the Panola County Public School System. She and her husband Louis were very adamant about their children finishing school, and they made it a point that all of their children completed high school. She was very active in the education of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. A Time to Know - Ada Mae was a homemaker who reared her children and some of her grandchildren. She was a part of all her children’s lives beyond her biological children. The grandchildren loved her—she taught them many things. Ada made most of her children clothes. She saved flour sacks to make dresses for the girls and pants for the boys. Sewing was a form of relaxation to her. Ada Mae also enjoyed cooking, making quilts, canning food, making preserves, working in her flower garden, traveling and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed teaching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren how to sew and cook. She had a love for knitting hats, scarfs, and vests for herself and other people. She knitted white hats for the Mother’s Board. Sister Ada enjoyed dressing up and wearing her hats. A Time to Love - She was united in matrimony to Louis “Nunnie” Jones on April 30, 1938 in Panola County, Mississippi. To this union ten children were born. A Time to Cherish - She leaves to cherish her memories: five daughters, Althia Mae McGhee, of Batesville, Mississippi, Sadie (Alex) Patterson, Anna Allen, Mary Willingham, all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and DeLoris (John) Person of Atlanta, Georgia; four sons, James L. (Linda) Jones of Hiram, Georgia, Ezil (Eva) Jones, Bobby (Sariena) Jones of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Bobby (Sharon) O’Jay Jones of Memphis, Tennessee; 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Thomas and Maggie Evans of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; one sister-in-law, Arcola Sanford of Memphis, Tennessee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ada was preceded in her journey home to glory by her parents, Major and Elmyra Hamilton; husband, Louis Jones; one daughter, Irene; three sisters, Lucy Coleman, Arnetter (Ned) Johnson and Floyd V. Evans; four brothers, Curtis, M.C., Ernest and Clance Hamilton.

We’re Never Alone

We saw you quietly slipping away. Oh how we prayed for you everyday. God simply said, “I have a new home for her instead.” When we think about you, We’ll try to be strong We’ll just say our goodbyes for a while, For one day we’ll meet you again And see Your beautiful smile. Our hearts maybe heavy And filled with grief, But there’s comfort in knowing you have found sweet relief. You were a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. To your love there was never an end!
