James W. Garner was born on January 6, 1937 to Lonnie
You’re always in my heart. I’m sending you a hug with a bag filled with kisses.
Garner and Etta Mae Williams in McComb, Mississippi.
James moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin as a young man in the 1940s. He received his formal education at St. Francis of Assisi School in Milwaukee and continued his education at Milwaukee Boys Tech High School, presently named Bradley Tech High School. After graduating from high school, James, affectionately named Doug, worked for Allis-Chalmers Company in West Allis and later with Schlitz Brewery located on Martin Luther King Drive. In his leisure, Doug enjoyed playing pool and watching baseball, basketball and football games. Doug was very involved in the community. He became a community activist with the Commandos, an organization that addressed social and economic issues in the central city. In other words, they were the voice for people who were being oppressed by the government.
Your Daughter, Sha-Ron
Gone But Not Forgotten A light from the family is gone, a voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in the home that never can be filled. Some may think you are forgotten, though on earth you are no more, But in memory you are here with us, as you always were before. The Family
Weep Not For Me Weep not for me though I am gone Into the gentle night Grieve if you will, but not for long Upon my souls sweet flight.
James (Doug) Garner departed this life on February 16, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Garner and Etta Mae Williams, and one brother, JDell Garner.
There is no need for tears. I am at peace, my soul is at rest There is no pain, I suffer not, For with your love I was so blessed.
James leaves to cherish his memory: his son, James Jr.; daughters, Kimberly, Brigitte and Sha-Ron; 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He further survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and dear friends.
I am in a place of comfort The fear now is gone. Put those things out of your thoughts, In your memory I live on. Remember not my fight for breath Remember not the strife Please do not dwell upon my death But celebrate my life Love, Doug
