Joseph Eugene Lucas, Jr. was born on October 13, 1943 in Louisville, Mississippi to the union of the late Joseph Eugene Lucas, Sr. and Vallie B. Lucas. He was the second oldest of six children. The Lucas family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1945.

Joseph completed his education in Milwaukee Public Schools. He attended Garfield Avenue, Roosevelt Middle School and North Division High School. Joseph accepted Christ as a young boy and was an active member of St. Matthew CME Church in Sunday School, Junior Usher Board and Christian Youth Fellowship. He demonstrated his skills as an excellent piano player whenever the opportunity presented itself. Joseph was employed by Milwaukee County Hospital in admissions and he worked for Milwaukee County Department of Social Services as a financial aid worker for many years. He is the father of one son, Jamil Karim of Kansas City, Missouri. Joseph loved and adored his son. His hobbies were tinkling with the latest gadgets such as phones, computers and collecting watches. He leaves to cherish his memory: son, Jamil (Allena) Karim; mother, Mrs. Vallie B. Lucas; two sisters, Yvonne ( Joe W.) Purdy of Milwaukee, WI and Muriel Lucas of Tacoma, WA; three brothers, George Lucas and Anthony (Ruthie) Lucas of Glendale, WI, Phillip (Pamela) Lucas of Winthrop Harbor, IL; grandchildren, Erica, Aaron, Muhammad, Aisha, Jamila and Jamil Jr.; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
