Obituary

LouiseMcGrewBraceywasbornonApril18,1922,in

Yazoo, Mississippi, to the union of the late Isaac and Leanna (Cowan) McGrew. Louise accepted Christ at an early age in Mississippi, and when she moved to Milwaukee, became a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained faithful in attendance until her health would no longer permit her to do so. Louise served the church in numerous capacities throughout the years. She coordinated the Black History program for twenty-six years. She also sang in the Chancel Choir, Women’s Day Choir, was a Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout leader, and president of the Scurry Missionary Society. While her children were young, she was a stay-at-home mom. However, once they were all in school full time, she worked for Milwaukee Public Schools as a Reading teacher assistant. Louise loved to sew, and would often make her own clothes. She was also an avid bridge player and bowler. Louise received her formal education in Mississippi and Tennessee, graduating from Pearl High School in Nashville, Tennessee. During her high school years, she was very active in the drama club. Louise also attended Jackson State University, Alverno College and Milwaukee Area Technical College.
