Obituary

Marie Flowers was born in Batesville,

Mississippi on October 3, 1936 to Leroy Flowers, Sr. and Ella Quay Flowers. The third of six children, she accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Batesville, Mississippi under the leadership of Rev. John McClinton. As a young adult, Marie relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she united with King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church. While living in Milwaukee, Marie worked as a housekeeper/nanny and a cook for many years because cooking was her passion. She also attended Milwaukee Area Technical College where she received a certification in upholstery. Marie retired from Ameritech’s Food Service Department in 1992; she then received certification as a Home Health Aide and worked until her health began to fail. Marie was a loving and kissing “grammy” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. On Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 9:15 p.m., Marie Flowers softly closed the book on her life at Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Ella Flowers; two brothers, Theodore Flowers and J.R. Flowers and her sister, Lula Mae Helen Flowers. She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Helen Davis of Milwaukee, WI and Patricia (Burchette) Bivens of Atlanta, GA; three sons, Kenneth (Cherylee) Flowers of Minneapolis, MN, Jonathan Flowers of Jacksboro, TN and Kerry (Gail) Flowers of Milwaukee, WI; two brothers, Leroy Flowers, Jr. of Atlanta, GA and Bob Flowers of Phoenix, AZ; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; three special “sister” friends, Myrtle Hopkins, Paulean Luse and Alice Scott; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

A Prayer For Mama

Lord, take our mother’s hand And lead her through your promised land. Walk her down those streets of gold In that land where she will never grow old. Show her those jasper walls And over there her Mother calls, To welcome her home to that land so fair, Where the lamb is the light and there’s no night there. Wipe away the tears from her eyes and tell her we’ll be nearby. Show her the mansion that you have prepared, So she will know just how much you cared.
