Obituary
Michael
Michael Horace Watley was born in Milwaukee, WI on
I only have a picture now, a frozen piece in time, To remind me of how it was, when you were here, and mine. How much I miss you being here, I really cannot say; The ache is deep inside my heart and never goes away. If only they had asked me if I would take your place, I would have done so willingly, leaving you this world to grace. I hope you’re watching from above at the daily tasks I do, And let there be no doubt at all, I really do love you.
April 17, 1959 to Horace Leafed and Mildred Watley. He was the first born of three boys. Understanding the role of being the eldest, he took this responsibility very seriously. He was the big brother to pave the way for his two younger brothers.
Michael received his formal education in the Milwaukee Catholic School System. He attended St. Leo’s and St. Agnes elementary schools, and St. John’s and Dominican High Schools, graduating from Dominican in 1977. While in high school, he excelled in basketball, football and track. He attended UW-Parkside and UW-Milwaukee. Michael was employed as a sales accountant in the telecommunications field. Michael was married to Sondra Bridges, and to this union, they were blessed with a daughter, Alicia. Michael had a passion for working with the youth. While living in Memphis, TN; Washington, DC; and Milwaukee, WI, he tirelessly volunteered his services as a basketball/football coach and a motivated speaker. Michael had a profound effect on the young people he worked with, challenging them to become productive and valuable members of society, always stressing the importance of giving back to their communities. Michael was a sports fanatic and relentlessly argued his point concerning his favorite teams. Michael Horace Watley departed this life on February 13, 2016. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted mother, Mildred Watley; daughter, Alicia Watley of Chicago, IL; two brothers, Timothy Watley of Charlotte NC and Phillip Watley of Oklahoma City, OK; nephews, Jordan, Rhyjion, Teryn and Jalen Watley; the love of his life, Mary Davis; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Your Mother, Mildred
Dad Remembering you is easy, I do it every day; But missing you is a heartache that never goes away. I hold you tightly within my heart and there you will remain; Life will go on without you, but will never be the same. Your Daughter, Alicia
A Letter to Our Brother Today we bury your body but your soul and spirit will live in us forever. We had arguments and we disappointed each other, but we were still brothers. We talked on the phone for hours and ran the streets like the immature kids we were. Our egos and our arrogant behavior kept us apart at times, but we were still brothers and loved each other. Your life on the earth is over but you will always be our older brother. Since Saturday, Phillip and I have talked like never before. We have cried, laughed, and we have questioned our behavior with you, but we know now our lives are intertwined because we are the sons of Horace Jr. and Mildred and the grandsons of Horace Sr. and Eunita Charles Horton and Louise McGee. We love Michael Horace Watley. Tell God we said Hello. Peace and Blessings. Your Brothers, Timothy and Phillip
