God looked around his garden And found an empty place. He then looked down upon his earth And saw your loving face. He put his arms around you And lifted you to rest; His garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering, He knew you were in pain; And he knew that you would never Get well again. He saw your path was difficult; He closed your tired eyes. He whispered to you, “Peace be thine” and gave you wings to fly. When we saw you sleeping So calm and free of pain We would not wish you back on earth To suffer once again. So you’ve left us precious memories. Your love will be our guide, And you’ll always be by our side. It broke our hearts to see you27, go 1962 Oct. Perhaps you sent a lovely card, Or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent a floral piece, If so we saw it there. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words That any friend could say; Perhaps you were not there at all, Just thought of us that day. Whatever you did to console our hearts, We thank you so much whatever the part.

The Salvation Army to offer parenting classes for fathers Courses range from fathering without fear and anger to dealing with substance abuse

The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County, in partnership with Made Men Worldwide Inc., will be offering several courses to help fathers become the best possible fathers they can be. Courses range from fathering without fear and anger to dealing with substance abuse. The Nurturing Fathers program started January 7, 2019. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Salvation Army's Citadel

Corps, 4129 W. Villard Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53209. "This program is open for all men, and will specifically benefit men facing domestic violence issues and those who need parenting classes as ordered by Department of Children and Families Services," said Major Steve Merritt, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army of Wisconsin & Upper Michigan. "Each individual must complete all twelve sessions to graduate from the

program. After certification, men will have the potential to become a trained facilitator of the program." The topics of the weekly sessions include: Roots of Fathering, Power to Meet Own Needs, Fathering Without Violence and Fear, Overcoming Issues in Fathering, How to Deal with Alcohol and Substance Abuse, and Son vs. Daughter Fathering. Men interested can sign up online at http://salar.my/fathers.

Being Frank

By: Frank James Special to the Milwaukee Times

Model happiness for children A modern day parent strives to ensure that their child achieves more than they have in the madness called the USA. This statement is true for all races that reside in the 50 states. You often run into people who are unhappy with their lot in life and seem to be simply going through the motions. I ran into a man who exhibited the symptoms I just mentioned. This gentleman’s reasoning was, “I’m doing this for my child.” My question is, “Why not live for your child?” If we are ever going to be free of the misery that manifests in our lives we have to acknowledge one fact. We have to realize that whatever situation that is taking place in our lives is our creation. Yes, wonderful people, the culprit for your situation is you. Once you can accept that the unwanted situation or even person in your life is your fault you can work towards change. The timeworn excuse of 'I am doing this for the kids' can go in the trashcan of history. Every sane parent wants the best for their child. Many people equate the best as material objects. Other parents say the best thing for a child is quality time where the par-

and in many cases the child grows up thinking this is how life is supposed to be. The loving parent has taught their offspring the worst lesson anyone can learn – the lesson to accept misery and not live your life the way you choose. Adults out there, think back to when you were growing up. How many of your parents or grown people around you truly lived the life they wanted and not one dictated by society? Has this lack of modeled happy living shaped how you are living today? My adult readers, has your life been shaped into a similar misery rut that the adults around you while you were growing up lived in? Now adults, come back to 2019; are you modeling the same misery to your children and keeping the cycle going for the next generation?

There you have it, folks. A happy life is a simple, yet complex gift for every child that the parent can enjoy as well. The gift of being an example of a happy, content person living their life the way they want to and smiling every moment is a benefit to children and yourself. ent can nurture growth in the child. There is no right or wrong answer but there is one thing a parent can do for a child. A parent can model being happy and living the life they choose and not one dictated by some belief system that leads to misery. Many are asking, “What the heck is he talking about?” It is simple, good parents; model being happy in life for your child. A great number of people in the USA work at jobs they would rather not go to. The excuse they use to continue working at such places is their children. Think. When you go home and are in a negative mood from working in a place that you dislike, how do you think your child views you? The lessons that stick in a child’s head are the ones we teach without knowing. Your child is watching you every day

The one gift we can give our children and ourselves is happiness. You owe it to yourself to be happy and content on this planet. I am not telling you to give up your job and wander the earth; if this works for you, do it. I am suggesting that an examination of the image you are projecting to youth may need an adjustment. Find something that you enjoy doing and go for it. If you are not happy with your job, then stack up money and quit. Go to night school or take online courses to gain skills needed to change your frown into a smile. Do not be afraid to take back control of your life. You may have to leave your spouse, which is a topic for another article.

The Counseling Corner

By Rev. Judith T. Lester, B.Min. M.Th

A New Year’s resolution: Bible study (Week 2) “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” - Lamentations 3:22-23 In the midst of making your New Year’s resolutions, let me suggest that at the top of your list you make a commitment to making daily Bible study and learning more about God’s endless love and mercy a priority. Last week we began listing reasons why the Bible is so special. This God’s Word affords us week, we will continue to list lines of proof as to the inthose reasons: spiration of the Scriptures. Two will be presented here: Why is the Bible so spe- (i) from the testimony of cial? Scriptures themselves and As to its sufficiency, the (ii) from reason. First, from Bible contains the truths of testimony of the Scriptures, revelation which deepen the Paul wrote: “All Scripture is believer’s relationship with God-breathed and is useGod. Because it is God’s ful for teaching, rebuking, Word, it is truthful in all that correcting, and training in it teaches. righteousness, so that the The Bible: The inspired servant of God may be thorword of God oughly equipped for every

good work” (2 Tim. 3:16-17, NIV). The Greek word for inspiration is “theopneustos” which means “God breathed out” the Scriptures. The human authors wrote what was given to them by God. This is confirmed in 2 Peter 1:21 “For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”

Another strong proof for the inspiration of the Scriptures comes from reason. There are the sublime conceptions of God found in the Scriptures that must have come to us because of inspiration, for the mind of humans unaided could not have reached such remarkable conclusions concerning the invisible God. For example, the psalmist notes in Psalm 8:1, 3, 4: “Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place. What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” Finally, God’s Word is infallible (incapable of wandering from the truth) and it is inerrant (incapable of making a mistake). There is no book in the world that even approaches the Bible in its

conception of God. Next week, we will turn our attention to some amazing benefits that comes from studying the inspired Word of God.
