Human Trafficking Taskforce hosts '8th Annual Trafficking Awareness Day' event On Tuesday, January 22, 2019, the Human Trafficking Taskforce of Greater Milwaukee (HTTFGM) hosted their 8th Annual Trafficking Awareness Day event at 88Nine Radio Milwaukee, 220 E. Pittsburgh Ave. The event was held to bring to light the issue of human trafficking. The event was hosted by Dana World-Patterson and Maddy Riordan; MC'd by LaShawndra Vernon; and featured survivors of human trafficking. The event also included spoken word poetry by LaKetta Caldwell; a speech by UWM law student Bria Dorsey; and remarks by State Senator Lena C. Taylor, Office of Violence Prevention Executive Director Reggie Moore, and HTTFGM Policy and Legislation Director Jay Reinke. Also part of the event was the presentation of the 2019 Photo by Yvonne Kemp Martha Love Trailblazer Award which was presented by Martha Love and Jay Reinke to Milwaukee Police Department's Lt. Dawn Jones. The event wrapped with a Solutions of Hope discussion panel featuring Inner Beauty's Deanne Lawson; Fresh Start Learning Academy's Nancy Yarbrough; Milwaukee Academy's Dana Dorn; Exposed's Natalie Hayden; and Grateful Girls' Chandra Cooper.
MKE Business Now hosts 'Entrepreneurship Summit' to find Milwaukee's next great business

On Saturday, January 26, 2019, MKE Business Now hosted an Entrepreneurship Summit at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School, 3275 N. 3rd Street. The summit was a showcase of resources available to help launch Milwaukee's next great business ventures and an opportunity to connect with established local professionals. The event was sponsored by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, the City of Milwaukee, the Historic King Drive BID #8, and U.S. Bank. The event featured vendors and organizations that had resources available for the attendees. The event featured a panel discussion moderated by Andrea Williams of Jammin' 98.3. '6th District Difference Makers' honored for their community betterment On Thursday, January 17, 2019, during a town hall meeting hosted by 6th district Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, six individuals and organizations were honored that have contributed to the improvement of the 6th district, making it a great place to live. The event was held at the Bader Philanthropies, Inc. headquarters, 3300 N. MLK Drive. The honorees were presented with the Dr. James G. White 6th District Difference Makers Award. "The award winners have each been working diligently to make our neighborhood and our community better, and that is the epitome of the spirit and mindset of Dr. James G.
