Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., hosts 83rd Central Regional Conference in Milwaukee: Community service was the weekend theme

On April 6-9, 2017 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., hosted their 83rd Central Regional Conference in downtown Milwaukee. The four-day event drew more than 2,500 attendees, all members of the oldest, African American women-led, Greek letter, community service organization in the U.S. This year's theme was "Confident, Central Region - Committed and Connected," and the conference attendees connected with Milwaukee by being active in a number of community service events in the city. These included volunteering and collecting food at Feeding America; donating blood and tissue samples at Wisconsin Blood Center; or collecting book bags and school supplies for children. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., has maintained a presence in Wisconsin for more than 68 years, with six undergraduate chapters and three graduate chapters. Kappa Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., receives '10th District Graduate Chapter of the Year' award
The Men of Kappa Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., were recently recognized for their hard work, service and dedication to the Milwaukee community. The chapter was presented with the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Small Chapter of the Year Award. The Chapter of the Year Award recognizes outstanding efforts and accomplishments of Kappa Phi Chapter, in which they played a prominent role as an inspiration and positive influence in the Milwaukee community. The Chapter received the award at the 80th Tenth District Convention at the Holiday Inn Chicago Matteson Conference Center, 500 Holiday Plaza Drive, Matteson, IL. The event took place on Saturday, April 8, 2017 during their Annual Founders Day Banquet. Pictured at the event are (front row, from left,) Arras V. Milwaukee Urban League Guild host 6th Annual Chili Cook-Off

On Saturday, March 25, 2017 The Milwaukee Urban league (MUL) Guild hosted their 6th Annual Chili Cook-Off at the Harley-Davidson University Auditorium, 3800 W. Juneau Ave. The event lived up to its billing as a hot and spicy affair, as some of the best chili chefs in Milwaukee competed for the coveted title of 2017 Milwaukee Urban League Guild Chili Cook-Off Champion. The event was a great success and raised over $2000! George Hinton was crowned 2017 Chili Cook-Off Champion. The second and third prize winners were Corry Joe Biddle and Royce Nash and Lacy Walton, respectively. The first prize winner received a trophy, $100 and a Milwaukee Urban League Guild 2017 Chili CookOff Champion apron. The second prize winner was awarded a trophy, $75 and a 2nd place apron. The third prize winner was honored with a trophy, $50 and a 3rd place apron. The 4th, 5th and 6th place winners each received a chef's cap.
