Friendship, Inc. hosts semi-annual membership and anniversary banquet The Friendship Club held its semi-annual anniversary banquet on Saturday, April 20, 2019. The Friendship Club is the first African American operated sobriety club in Milwaukee. The Friendship Club is located on 2245 West Fond Du Lac Ave. and serves hundreds of recovering people and their families in the community. Dr. Shirley Moutry, a retired administrator with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction was the keynote speaker. Moutry presented a powerful and spiritual message to the audience which focused on "Building A Community." Friendship Incorporated, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to the efforts of providing social, recreational and educational activities Event Photo to the recovering alcoholic/addict, his/her family, friends and others interested in the recovery process. LISC presents the 20th Annual MANDI Awards and 'Celebrates the Change Makers'

On Thursday, April 11, 2019, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) presented the 20th Annual Milwaukee Awards for Neighborhood Development and Innovation (MANDI) at Potawatomi Hotel. The MANDI Awards recognize excellence in community development and "Celebrate the Change Makers." The Mistress of Ceremonies was Today's TMJ4 News Anchor Shannon Sims and the event was co-sponsored by U.S. Bank. This year's awards sponsors and recipients were as follows: the BMO Harris Bank Cornerstone Award went to The Running Rebels; the Brewers Community Foundation Public Space Award went to Multi-Sport

Complex at Browning Elementary and Silver Spring Neighborhood Center; the State Farm Building Blocks Award went to Welford Sanders Historic Lofts and Enterprise Center; the Associated Bank Trailblazer Award went to MATC Promise; the Chase Economic Development Award went to Blue Skies Landscaping; the Northern Trust Navigator Award went to Susan Lloyd Zilber Neighborhood Initiative; and the Northwestern Mutual Collaboration Award went to Sherman Park Reclaiming Our Neighborhoods (R.O.N).

The Parenting Network celebrates 'National Child Abuse Prevention Month' On Tuesday, April 9, 2019, The Parenting Network celebrated April as 'National Child Abuse Prevention Month,' with a special proclamation celebration at Bader Philanthropies, Inc. headquarters, 3300 N. MLK Drive. Strengthening parenting and preventing child abuse has been the mission of The Parenting Network since their founding in 1976. Since then they have worked hard to shift the culture from abuse treatment to abuse prevention and protection. In recognition of their work Mayor Tom Barrett presented a proclamation to The Parenting Network Executive Director Joyce Felker (seated, front row, right). "April is the time to celebrate the important role that communities play in protecting children and strengthening families," said Felker. "Everyone's participation is critical."
