WAAW Center hosts 22nd Annual Face of Home Hat Luncheon

On Saturday, May 19, 2018, The Wisconsin African American Women, Ltd., hosted the 22nd Annual Face of Hope Hat Luncheon at the Wisconsin African American Women's Center, 3020 West Vliet Street. Twenty-four community leaders were honored for their dedicated service and civic involvement. More than 200 people attired in stylish head crowns attended the annual event. The 2018 honorees were: Edwina Bost, James and Karen Caldwell, Zakiya Courtney, Rose Fleming, Viola Hawkins, Mable Hawkins West, NeBritt Herring, Phyllis Holder, Keyon Jackson Malone, Delanda Jones, Denise Lowe, Doris May, Truman McGee, Lititia Minor, Nobie Reed, Delores Sallis, Joyce Shabazz, Eldora Smith, Jone Stromberg, Gwendolyn F. Sutton, Trent Towers, Rain Truth, and Freida Webb.

Milwaukee honors two heroes of the fight for fair housing On Saturday, May 19, 2018, as part of the 50th Anniversary of the March on Milwaukee, the celebration of the Open Housing Marches of 1967-68, the city of Milwaukee presented special awards to two of the participants who helped drive the movement at a awards ceremony held at North Division High School. The two recipients were veteran marcher and former NAACP commando Fred Reed and "mother of the movement" Inez Miller Herzer. Milwaukee Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association celebrates National Nurses Week with grand party

On Saturday, May 12, 2018, the Milwaukee Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association (MCNBNA) celebrated National Nurses Week 2018 with a Nurse Week Day Party. Nurses, their friends and family from all over were invited to the party, hosted at the Holiday Inn Milwaukee Riverfront, 4700 N. Port Washington Rd. Attendees enjoyed music, light refreshments, dancing, and vendors with items for sale.
