Milwaukee Urban League presents Youth Leadership Summit 2017

On Saturday, May 20, 2017 The Milwaukee Urban League (MUL), together with Johnson Controls, presented laptops (which were provided by Johnson Controls) to 30 students who participated in this year's "Youth Leadership Summit" held at Junior Achievement of Wisconsin, 11111 W. Liberty Ave. The summit provided the students an opportunity to partake in a number of seminars to train them in leadership skills, conflict resolution, financial
literacy, and community involvement. All in all, it was a day of inspiring, positive change. The 16th annual Rev. James Spann II Scholarship helps youth achieve their college dreams and honors a great legacy

The 16th Annual Reverend James W. Spann II Scholarship Luncheon was held Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Ramada Inn Downtown, 633 West Michigan St. Six high school seniors were awarded scholarships to assist with their college education and career plans. Local educator and community activist Reuben Harpole was the keynote speaker. The Spann Scholarship Foundation was established by Dr. Wilma Spann, a retired MPS administrator, in her late husband’s name. The foundation was formed in January, 2001 to continue his ministry and legacy. The Booker T. Washington Society hosts the 'Booker T. Washington Essay Contest and Awards Celebration for African American Boys' On Saturday, May 20, 2017 The Booker T. Washington Society, along with the Booker T. Boosters, hosted its "Booker T. Washington Essay Contest and Awards Celebration for African American Boys," at the Running Rebels Center, 1300A West Fond du Lac Ave. The essay subject was "I Choose 3 Booker T. Washington Principles to Achieving My Dreams." During the event the top four essay writers got the chance to read their essays as well as receive their award.
