From June 26 - July 7, 2019, Milwaukee got their "Smile On" during the World's largest music festival, Summerfest. This year offered a wide variety of acts for all ages. Among the artists performing were living legends such as Chaka Khan, Lionel Richie, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and The Spinners; current hot acts such as Snoop Dog, The Roots, T-Pain, Lil Wayne, and Jacob Latimore; and hot up-and-comers in-

cluding Lizzo, Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Vic Mensa, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and Schoolboy Q; plus 100's of others. On the final day of Summerfest 2019, 30,000 free tickets were handed out for Summerfest 2020 to fans as they passed through the gates for Fan Appreciation Day. Next year's Summerfest plans to be even bigger and better with the completion of phase 2 of their grounds overhaul.

On Tuesday, July 9, 2019, Milwaukee Public Schools, together with generous funders and community partners, announced a multi-million dollar investment in Milwaukee schools and neighborhoods. As part of an ongoing cycle, the district is beginning work that will reduce pavement and increase green space at four MPS schools, adding to several previous projects. Improvements will include bioswales to manage storm-water, outdoor classrooms, tree plantings, school gardens and plans to include ecology, sustainability and freshwater science into the curriculum. The improvements will impact neighborhoods, provide community access and improve the quality of life in the city of Milwaukee. Mayor Tom Barrett, MPS Superintendent Dr. Keith P. Posley, Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District Executive Director Kevin Shafer, along with MPS students took part in the groundbreaking at H.W. Longfellow School.

Local entrepreneurs celebrate launch of new nail polish line, Jus Shanna On Saturday, June 1, 2019, local business leaders Shanna Reid and Katina Shaw celebrated the launch of their new nail polish line, Jus Shanna Unapologetic Collection, with a fabulous party at the Tripoli Country Club, 7401 North 43rd Street. Nail polish can be a fun way to dress up your nails or cover up any imperfections. Unfortunately most nail polish brands are tested on animals and contain harsh chemical ingredients. Despite being banned for cosmetics use in several countries, formaldehyde—a known carcinogen—is commonly used in nail polish. Jus Shanna is a vegan nail polish and cosmetic collection that is PETA certified and made from all vegan ingredients. So you can feel good about the polish you wear as well as look good. The line also features a number of unique colors to dress up any look. You can purchase the polish at www.jusshanna.com.
