Vera LeBlance celebrates milestone 95th birthday

The weekend of July 15 - July 16, 2017 was a special one for Vera LeBlance (right photo, left), for it was her 95th birthday weekend. The birthday festivities started with a surprise picnic with fam-

ily and friends at Cannon Park, 303 North 95th Street, on Saturday, July 15, 2017. The festivities continued with a special surprise church celebration on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, where she was presented proclamations from many local community leaders, including Mayor Tom Barrett. Following the services was a brunch at the Hotel Metro, 411 East Mason Street. There she was joined by family and friends for brunch and to share stories from her amazing life.

Garfield celebrates 20th anniversary of annual street festival

The Garfield Avenue Blues, Jazz, Gospel and Arts Festival returned for its 20th year on Saturday, July 15, 2017 with music, food and more. The festival was held on W. Garfield Ave., from N. King Drive to N. 7th St., and featured four music stages throughout the day. More than 100 vendors were present selling food, goods, art and more. The family-friendly festival helps showcase the wide variety of artists, musicians, churches, performers and food vendors in the area. A new doctor in the Robinson family: Congrats Dr. Kourtnei Robinson

Dr. Kourtnei M. Robinson is a 2008 graduate from Rufus King; she attended Howard University and University of Wisconsin Madison as a undergraduate student. On Saturday June 3, 2017 her long journey was completed at The University of Texas at Galveston School of Medicine, where Kourtnei was awarded the degree Doctor of Medicine. She is the first doctor in her family. She is pictured with family, including her mother, her father and retired police forensic officer Kim Robinson, and her two siblings.
