Milwaukee Bucks celebrate grand opening of new arena, The Fiserv Forum

Northwest Funeral Home hosts annual 'Back-to-School Book Bag Give-A-Way'

The Fiserv Forum, the new home to the Milwaukee Bucks, held their Grand opening on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at the corner of Herb Kohl Way in front of the new arena. Taking part in the ribbon cutting ceremony was former U.S. Senator Herb Kohl, NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and many of the key people involved in making the dream of a new arena a reality. Tours were also offered to show off the new basketball court,concessions and common areas. Currently the arena is 95 percent completed; once finished the Forum will seat 17,500 for basketball and up to 18,000 for concerts. On Saturday, August 25, 2018, Northwest Funeral Chapel hosted its annual "Back-to-School Book Bag Give-A-Way," at the Northwest Family Activity and Event Center, 4034 West Good Hope Rd. This year the children not only received free back packs to start the new school year; there were also free school supplies, reading books, flu shots, hair cuts, as well and food and games. The Milwaukee Times Black Excellence Committee (lower photo) was also there to hand out Popsicles that were provided by Cedar Crest Ice Cream, new reading books, and school supplies to the attendees. Pictured at the event are (upper photo) the staff of Northwest Funeral Chapel and Northwest Family Activity and Event Center. Both are owned by J.C. Frazier and Victoria Frazier.

Community leader Josephine Moutry Hill celebrates milestone birthday with a 'Royal Affair: All Hail the Queen'

On Sunday, August 26, 2018, community activist and business leader Josephine Moutry Hill (inset photo) celebrated her 75th birthday with a 'Royal Affair: All Hail the Queen,' at the Wisconsin African American Women's Center, 3020 West Vliet Street. Josephine was joined by her family and friends who all wore Afro-centric attire to help celebrate her milestone birthday. Guests enjoyed food, music, shared special memories and a special video presentation.

MUL helps kick off the new school year at Oliver Wendell Holmes School

On Monday, August 27, 2018 The Milwaukee Urban League hosted a Welcome Back Luncheon for the teachers and staff at Oliver Wendell Holmes School to kick off the 2018-2019 school year. The staff was treated to a picnic lunch and each staff member was presented with a survival bag of goodies. MUL's Assistant Director of Education and Training Greg Fanning (center) and school principal Patrick D. Chatman (right) gave the staff a pep-talk and answered questions. Last year MUL partnered with Holmes School to provide academic support of STEM programs with funding by GE Medical. An NCON Communications Publication
