North Division High School Alumni host 2017 Athletic Hall of Fame On Saturday, October 21, 2017, The North Division High School Alumni Association hosted the 6th Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet at the Hilton Garden Inn, 11600 West Park Place. Every two years the North Division Alumni Association honors about a dozen athletes, coaches, and supporters who help build the outstanding legacy of North Division High School's athletics department. This year's honorees include Barbara Johnson-Burnett, King David Lee, Richard Lee, Robert Luckett, Larry Matthews, Dwayne Perryman, Jerry Young, Jack Hughes, Gene Leland, Ned Moton, French Reasby, and Legend Award recipients Beckum-Stapleton Little League co-founder James W. Beckum and coach/teacher of the year Sarah L. Grant. The Legend Award recipients are individuals who have made a long-standing impact in sports and education, not just at the school but also in the community. Photo by Yvonne Kemp

Spann Foundation presents 4th Annual College Resource Fair On Saturday, October 21, 2017, the Rev. James W. Spann, II Scholarship Foundation hosted its 4th Annual College Resource Fair at North Division High School, 1011 West Center Street. The event featured college recruiters from area colleges and universities, along with representatives from three branches of the U.S. military, as well as the Milwaukee police and fire departments to help students find their right post-high school careers. The Rev. James W. Spann, II Scholarship Foundation was founded by the late Rev. Spann to award scholarships to deserving minority high school graduates in southeastern Wisconsin and help them reach their full potential. The Salvation Army hosts inaugural 'OTHERS' Luncheon

On Monday, October 23, 2017, The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County hosted their inaugural "OTHERS" Luncheon at the Wisconsin Club. The event included a panel discussion lead by former Fox 6 sports director Tom Pipines (right), and featured former Green Bay Packers (from left) Gilbert Brown, Leroy Butler and George Koonce. The discussion highlighted how each athlete had the assistance of other people in their lives that allowed them to become not only professional athletes, but also successful business people and community supporters. The 2017 special honoree was Bader Philanthropies, Inc., with the organization recognized for the assistance it offers to people and communities in Milwaukee, across Wisconsin, and in places throughout the world. Bader Philanthropies supports projects, facilities, and institutions that represent Helen Bader’s lifelong passion for lifting others up through knowledge, creativity, and compassion.
