Northwest Family Activity and Events Center hosts 4th Annual Mrs. O'Bee Toy House
On Sunday, December 9, 2018, the Northwest Family Activity and Events Center hosted its fourth Mrs. O'Bee's Toy House, at 4034 W. Good Hope Road. For the past four years the staff of Northwest Funeral Chapel opens the doors of the event center and allows local children between the ages of 1 to 8 years to come and pick out a toy for the holidays. The children and their families are also treated to activities and goodies provided by the friends of Mrs. O'Bee, as well as a visit from the man himself, Santa Claus. Bethel Baptist Church honors Maestro Douane McDowell for 35 years of musical service On Friday, December 7, 2018, Bethel Baptist Church honored Maestro Douane McDowell for his 35-plus years of musical service to Bethel Baptist Church in a special celebration entitled, "The Sound of Music," at 2030 W. North Ave. The event featured choirs and performers from all over Milwaukee who came to honor the musical talents of Mr. McDowell. Recording artist and Pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church Rodney Cunningham was the keynote speaker. Mr. McDowell was awarded with a trophy and flowers from the church for his work and accomplishments (inset). On Saturday, October 27, 2018, Canaan Baptist Church held a special event to honor their congregation's senior members. All of the 40 honorees were members who are 80 years or older. One of the oldest honorees had recently turned 100 years old. Unfortunately, a few of the honorees were not present due to health issues and two of the honorees, www.milwaukeetimesnews.com
