Milwaukee Urban League hosts Equal Opportunity Day Luncheon By Steve Waring Special to The Milwaukee Times

Milwaukee Bucks President Peter Feigin was the luncheon keynote speaker and promised to help with an economic revival of Bronzeville, the neighborhood near where the new Bucks Arena is to be built. The 56th Equal Opportunity Day Luncheon, held on December 9th at the Pfister Hotel, shattered previous attendance records where more than 450 guests attended the annual Milwaukee Urban League event. The Equal Opportunity Day Luncheon is the second largest fundraising event of the year for the Milwaukee Urban League. Each year the luncheon awards a Corporate Leadership Award and the Time Warner Cable Unity Award

to those who help make Milwaukee a better place to live. U.S. Bank Executive Vice President Steve SaLoutos accepted the Corporate Leadership Award on behalf of U.S. Bank. He noted that the bank has a policy whereby employees can request up to 16 hours of paid time off from work per year in order to work as a volunteer on community projects. In his acceptance speech, SaLoutos said U.S. Bank was committed to building a rising middle class with pride and independence in their work in the areas of Milwaukee that are currently suffering from high rates of homelessness, crime, unemployment, and lack of access to health care and retail shopping. Reid's New Golden Gate Funeral Home hosts annual 'Celebration of Love'

On Friday, December 11, 2015 Reid's New Golden Gate Funeral Home hosted its annual "Celebration of Love" at the Crowne Plaza, 6401 South 13th Street. Family members, friends, pastors and church leaders from Chicago, Racine and Milwaukee were in attendance to salute and celebrate the prominent couple in grand style. The evening affair featured an eight course buffet dinner, and an uplifting gospel message by Rev. Rev. Fred Richmond, pastor of New Omega Baptist Church in Racine, WI, acknowledged the business support the Reids have received from the religious community. The Reids have three funeral home locations, two on Milwaukee's northwest side and a location in Racine. Pictured at the event are Reid's New Golden Gate executive secretary Maria Woodruff; vice president/CEO Mary Smith-Reid; president/ CEO Arthur Reid, Jr.; Funeral Director Quaneka A. Willis-Dorsey; and State Senator Lena Taylor, who presented a community service award to Mr. and Mrs. Reid.

Sargento hosts Touchdowns for Charity Tailgate Party By Steve Waring Special to The Milwaukee Times On December 3, 2015 Packers tight end Richard Rodgers caught a desperate, last-second, 65-yard pass in the Detroit Lions end zone to win the game with no time left on the clock. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw the ball so high that it almost hit the roof of Ford Field. After the game Aaron Rodgers (no relation) said that aside from winning the Super Bowl, it was the most exciting play of his career. Richard Rodger, now in his second season with the Packers, has been steadily improving into a potential Pro Bowl player, accounting for seven receiving touchdowns so far this season. This week Rodgers spent his day off signing autographs and enjoying a traditional Packers tailgate party with a capacity crowd of more than 300 volunteers and friends of the Hunger Task Force as part of the 13th annual Sargento Touchdowns for Charity Tailgate Party. For every touchdown the Packers score during the regular season, Sargento Foods donates $1,000 to the Hunger Task Force.
