Milwaukee Urban League hosts 59th Equal Opportunity Day Luncheon

On Wednesday, December 12, 2018, The Milwaukee Urban League (MUL) hosted the 59th Annual Equal Opportunity Day Luncheon at the Pfister Hotel, 424 E. Wisconsin Ave. The Equal Opportunity Day Luncheon is a significant event, not only because it helps to reinforce the importance of diversity and equal opportunity, but it also generates funds which help support the League's work in education, employment, economic development and civic engagement. This year's keynote speaker was Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) National President and CEO Maurice A. Jones (front row center) Pictured at the event are MUL president and CEO Dr. Eve M. Voice of the Fatherless Child brings Christmas cheer to families in need Monday, December 17, 2018 marked the 11th annual "Voice of the Fatherless Child's Single Parent Christmas," which has been co-sponsored by Home Depot for the past 10 years. Home Depot employees and Voice of the Fatherless Child staff and family joined together to go into the homes of 10 families to decorate the home, put up and decorate a live tree, and pass out gifts to the families. This year they were joined by Hupy and Abraham S.C. president Michael F. Hupy who helped hand out gifts to the Contreras family. Alderman Cavalier Johnson hosts 2nd District holiday event

On Saturday, December 15, 2018, Alderman Cavalier Johnson (holding sign) invited families to his 2nd District holiday event at the Silver Spring Neighborhood Center, 5460 N. 64th Street. Alderman Johnson was joined by State Senator Lena Taylor; Warden Steve Johnson (right); Andre Brown of Project Return, and members of the Milwaukee Youth Council, who helped hand out 100 teddy bears made by inmates at Racine Correctional Institution to Milwaukee children in need. Other gifts, hats, scarves, and gloves donated by City of Milwaukee employees, as well as food and beverages were provided to attendees. "This event aims to celebrate the holidays and make the season a little brighter for families," said Ald. Johnson.
