Dr. Lester L. Carter, Jr. (above), a long-time Milwaukee pharmacist and author of a recently published book: “Healing the Human Body With God’s Remedies,” spoke and took questions on healing and preventing illness with natural remedies at the King Drive Commons & Gallery Studio on December 14, 2017. Tuina Bey, (lower photo, left) a massage therapist and Toni Tauta Martinez, a healer (right) were introduced by Marquette Edwards (center), director of King Commons Gallery and Studio and the event organizer. The event, which also included hand and back massages, yoga, holiday gifts, art exhibits and refreshments, was part of “The Art of Health Series” sponsored by The Milwaukee Times Printing & Publishing, Bader Philanthropies, Inc., and the Martin Luther King Economic Development Corp.

On Wednesday, December 13 and Thursday, December 14, 2017, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation hosted "Marketplace 2017: the 36th Annual Governor's Conference on Minority Business Development,"at the Potawatomi Conference Center, 1721 West Canal Street. For more than three decades, the Marketplace has provided minority, female and veteran business owners with the resources, tools, and contacts they need to maximize their success. Besides workshops, a Small Business Academy, and networking opportunities, the Marketplace also presents an annual "Breakfast for Champions," where the Small Business Administration (SBA) honors local and community champions. This year's Community Economic Development Award winners were (pictured above, from left) Godwin Amegashie, Wisconsin Department of Administration (retired); Linda Graves, Gilbane Building Company; and Dr. Eve M. Hall, Milwaukee Urban Leagues current President and CEO. Also pictured is Ralph Hollmon, retired Milwaukee Urban League President and CEO, who received the SBA Minority Small Business Champion Award.

On Saturday, December 17, 2017, the Baptist Ministers Conference of Greater Milwaukee, Inc. (BMCGM), hosted its Annual Christmas Dinner at the Holiday Inn Milwaukee, 4700 North Port Washington Road.
