On Thursday, November 9, 2017, University of Wisconsin- Stout, and Alverno College student organizations Black Student Alliance, CHICA and YES presented an evening with America's Black Holocaust Museum Head Griot Reggie Jackson for his presentation, "Liberty for All! African American Civil Liberties in Milwaukee." The discussion, which was free and open to the public, looked at the struggles of African Americans in Milwaukee to attain those basic civil liberties that we assume are the rights of all Americans and using historical perspective to see how much further they still have to go. Originally founded in 1984 by the late Dr. James Cameron, the Black Holocaust is expected to reopen in the summer of 2018 in a new building at 4th Street and North Avenue.
