Photos by Robert Bell

On Thursday, May 28, 2015, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s (WisDOT) Zero In Wisconsin campaign held a news conference in Milwaukee to promote safety belt use as part of the statewide Click It or Ticket mobilization, which ran from May 18 - 31. Green Bay Packers’ Super Bowl champion wide receiver, Dancing With the Stars Champion and New York Times bestselling author Donald Driver, who is a strong advocate for safety belt use, spoke at the event. He also is featured in statewide TV, radio, print and online messages about safety belt use for the Click It or Ticket campaign. A new video of Donald surprising some unsuspecting drivers to ask

about their safety belt use was shown. The press conference was held at Isaac Coggs Heritage Health Center, located at 8200 West Silver Spring Drive. Pictured at the conference are Milwaukee Health Services Inc. president and chief executive officer Dr. Tito Izard, MD; WisDOT Secretary Mark Gottlieb; Green Bay Packers’ all-time leading receiver and Zero In Wisconsin program spokesperson Donald Driver; WI Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch; and WisDOT Bureau of Transportation Safety Director David Pabst. Pictured (insert) is a poster of Driver's new ad signed by Driver himself.

St. Ann’s Bucyrus Campus set to open this September By Steve Waring Special to The Milwaukee Times Over the next year the St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care will be hiring about 150 full-time and 50 part-time jobs for its new Bucyrus Campus located in the 53206 Milwaukee zip code. Job fair scheduled The St. Ann Center is eager to employ local residents and has scheduled a job fair June 26, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Milwaukee Area Investment Board, 2338 N. 27th Street. They have already begun enrolling children from age 6 weeks to 12 years for Early Head Start and afterschool care, according to Diane Beckley, chief operating officer. The new 80,000 square foot, $21 million facility located at 2450 W. North Ave., will be built in two stages, according to Sister Edna Lonergan, president and CEO. She is an occupational therapist and has a master’s degree in gerontology. She also founded a similar 60,000 square foot facility on the south side of Milwaukee in 1999. St. Ann’s planning took five years During a tour of the construction site for community leaders and supporters Sister Lonergan said St. Ann spent five years planning, researching and getting to know a number of community and political leaders within the 53206 district. social services that care for parents when they can no longer care for themselves.” New facility to incorporate African motif Given that approximately 97 percent of neighborhood residents are African American, the new center deliberately has tried to incorporate an African design motif for its new north side center, Sister Lonergan said. St. Ann is a not-for-profit corporation managed by the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, 3221 S. Lake Drive. In its promotional literature it em-

phatically states, “We are not a nursing home, we are a day care center,” however it specializes in dementia care for senior citizens and one of its many programs includes a “Senior Overnight Respite Center,” where senior citizens can stay overnight for up to 20 days providing their primary caregiver with a temporary safe place for their loved one. Center will hire 200 employees When every aspect of construction is complete the center will offer two outdoor and one indoor playground, gardens, a swimming pool and learning programs for children. St. Ann will also offer adult day care, hair and nail services, wellness and exercise, integrated therapy including occupational, physical, speech as well as psychotherapy and counseling, skilled nursing care, along with community medical and dental care and many other amenities and services. The majority of the 80,000 square foot facility will open its children’s programs September 1, 2015 and adult programs begin on October 1, 2015. St. Ann hopes to complete the second phase of construction which will include a handicapaccessible indoor warm water pool, four childcare classrooms and the adult day services unit by spring 2016. When fully operational, St. Ann will provide some 200 new jobs within the neighborhood and a variety of services to some 400 residents, according to Sr. Lonergan. In order to complete the first phase of construction on time for the start of the 2016-17 school year, St. Ann took out a $3.5 million mortgage. The $4 million to complete the second phase must still be raised, but Sr. Lonergan said she is confident that God will provide. “It’s no small thing,” she said, “but we’ll get through. It will come.”

Rebuilding Our Community

By Dr. Andrew Calhoun, Ed.D. Special to the Milwaukee Times

Lost in this masquerade I don’t know if you got the memo, email or phone call recently to come to the next series of community meetings dressed in a disguise and ready to play the next round of games. You betcha! How about a little hide-and-seek with the economic recovery and the jobs that seemly never appear available for those living in the inner city; what about some charades where a player acts out a word or phrase without using any verbal language to convey the meaning to others on fair housing, quality health care and black on black crime. And what about my favorite, Pictionary, of quick sketches and crazy guesses whereby teams are trying to identify specific words from their teammates' drawings of educational reform. Hey, what about adding some others games into mix including truth and dare, taboo, clue and scattergories... now this party is all set. It is pretty hard not to

notice that so many people come to meetings with hidden agendas of personal self-interest or representing the interest of an agency or business partnership. It soon becomes clear that things were already in motion regardless of what is said or believed to be accomplished during the meeting. It also appears that there were other meetings held before the meeting to which you came and in which you gave your opinion, spoke your convictions or shared your vision.

Being Frank

Occasionally an event takes place that warms the soul but is overlooked. One such event took place Saturday, May 30, 2015 at The Ridge Community Church in Greenfield, WI. It was prom night for teens that are developmentally disabled. Many special needs students often do not get the opportunity to go to prom. Their general education peers often overshadow these students if they do go to prom. This event ensured that wouldn’t happen. Many of the participants live with conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy, or Down syndrome. The event also showcased how a community can work together to make something wonderful. Many of the attendees had their hair and makeup done at Vic’s Beauty School. Afterwards they hopped in limos and headed to the church where they were greeted by cheering crowds. For some of these teens this was the first time they had such treatment bestowed on them. The young women chose from over 1000 gowns that were donated for this occasion. The young men wore tuxedos. Attendees were escorted into the church by volunteer hosts for the event. Schools have several activities that general education students can participate in.

From various sports to social events general education students have options. I’m not saying special needs students aren’t welcome to participate in general education activities. Events for the general education students are usually not designed with special needs students in mind. This prom was tailored to the developmentally disabled. It was a rare opportunity to let teens that have conditions like autism be the focal point of the evening. The number of students being referred for Special Education services is increasing around the country. It’s going to take more groups like Special Olympics to meet their needs. There are government programs designed to assist financially but everyone needs a social outlet. Everyone wants to have that moment on the red carpet. Because many people view the developmentally disabled differently we tend to forget this. A simple party provided this to a group of teens who may have never gotten their 15 minutes of fame. This prom was special to both the attendees and the community. The prom was an example of people working together to create something wonderful. This event rekindled the hope that acceptance of all people will be

Then it all hits you, why did I come to this meeting in the first place in which the decision has already been made? They are going to do what they want to do. But that is where the irony lies... to know this is happening; to know this is the game; to know what is going to be said; to know what is going to be the outcome and yet to not be able to do anything about it, but to sit back, become angry and frustrated about how things were done. You quickly learn that you

were not at the table to provide meaningful input or to share in a productive dialog, but simply were brought along to justify something already planned. And to see this firsthand, the schemes and the process... and to be told by others to just go with the flow. It is enough to make you give up, say what’s the use and to move on. Well you are not alone in what you are seeing, feeling and experiencing. Some say... you have to go along to get along... others would say you have to pay in order to play... and yet others would suggest that you have to learn how to mingle or learn the art of negotiations. But really, there is so much at stake; families in crisis, a growing gun culture, high dropout rates, poor health care outcomes, expanding roles of people living in poverty... are you kidding me! In the words of the singer and musician, George Benson...“Are we really happy... with this lonely game we

play? Looking for the right words to say... searching but not finding understanding anywhere... we’re lost in this masquerade.” So, I say at the next meeting make sure your mask is on straight and blend in. A rare occasion from events like this simple prom. The city is in turmoil, from shootings to political unrest. With the right cause people can work together to create something wonderful. Milwaukee’s community leaders could learn the norm. It takes a person something from those who with great patience and care organized this prom. I won’t to work with developmen- sully the beauty of the night tally disabled children and by talking or tying it to the adults. The organizers of the miseries of Milwaukee. I’ll prom and those who assisted end with a quote from Sue should be saluted. Aleson Saturday in regards Milwaukee needs to learn to her daughter Libby that’s

priceless. “There’s no doubt she’s feeling like a princess today.” Frank James IV © 2015 beingfrankwithfrank@ gmail.com The opinions expressed in this editorial are those of the writer and not of the Milwaukee Times Weekly Newspaper or NCON Communication, its staff or management. The greatest joys of fatherhood (Part 1) What is the meaning of fatherhood? At a workshop “Improving Data on Male Fertility and Family Formation” at the Urban Institute, Washington D.C. (1997), this definition of fatherhood was given: A man becomes a father when he has his first child; this status is fixed, such that, once a man becomes a father he is always a father. He may subsequently have more children or his responsibilities and activities may change due to divorce, or children leaving home, or for other reasons, but he is always a father. Fatherhood, then, is a status attained by having a child and is irrevocable. In the contemporary research literature, the term fatherhood is used interchangeably with the term fathering which includes, beyond the procreative act itself, all the childrearing roles, activities, duties, and responsibilities that fathers are expected to perform and fulfill. Furthermore, while these definitions once implied biological fathers only, with the rapid changes in the family structure they came to include non-biological fathers as well. We follow the common practice in the research literature and use "fatherhood" to include childrearing re-

sponsibilities and fathering activities as well, regardless of whether they are carried out by biological or non-biological fathers. This month in celebration of fatherhood, this writer asked several fathers to answer the question: “What have been the greatest joys of fatherhood?” This writer was awed by the responses from each father and I am delighted to share them with you. Reflections on Fatherhood By: Mr. Charles Johnson My greatest joy of fatherhood has been watching my children live, grow and learn

responsibility. I love my children who are now 40 and 50 years of age. I have learned regardless of how old my children get, I am always their “Dad” and therefore, I will always be there for them. My Children, The Love Of My Life! By: Min. Marc Miller When I think about my greatest joys of fatherhood, I must first thank God for blessing me with a son and daughter. I thank God for God’s grace and mercy, the gift of forgiveness and restoration. I could/should have lost my life to the streets but God had other plans for me. When I think about those times when I taught my children to ride a bike; driving or walking them to school; and God’s blessings for being able to provide for them, all bring me tremendous joy. Now that my son is a young man (Imani, 19), I enjoy having those oneon-one conversations with him about life. My daughter (Faith, 11) has her questions too and I am happy to give her my listening ear and give

her fatherly and godly advice. If I had to state my ultimate joy of being a father….it has been sharing the love of Jesus with my children. In turn, my children bring me joy when they tell me: “I love you daddy” and when they say those simple, but extremely meaningful words: “thank you.” I cannot describe how grateful I am to God for blessing me and guiding me to be a Godfearing father and for blessing me with my two beautiful children. “When a father gives to his son, both laugh; when a son gives to his father, both cry” - William Shakespeare Next Week: More Expressions from Fathers The writer does not assume responsibility in any way for readers’ efforts to apply or utilize information or recommendations made in these articles, as they may not be necessarily appropriate for every situation to which they may refer. Top MPS grads off to top schools around the country Board, superintendent recognized valedictorians, salutatorians

MPS Photo

Valedictorians and salutatorians from MPS high schools were honored Thursday, May 28, 2015 by the Milwaukee Board of School Directors and Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Darienne Driver before they head off to colleges, universities, the military and volunteer service work. Destinations for this year’s top grads include: Alverno College, Carroll University, Clark Atlanta University, Howard University, Indiana State University, Kalamazoo College, Lane College, Loras College, Marquette University, Milwaukee Area Technical College, Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, Mississippi Valley State, Mount Mary University, Notre Dame, Saint Louis University,

Stanford University, the U.S. Army, the U.S. Navy, the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, University of Wisconsin-River Falls, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, the University of Wisconsin-Stout, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, volunteer service, Waldorf College, and Wesleyan University. “We are honored and proud to celebrate the accomplishments of the valedictorians and salutatorians of the MPS Class of 2015,” MPS Superintendent Dr. Darienne Driver said. “These students are strong examples of success for their peers and the community.”

Board approves MPS budget that maximizes support to schools and students amid cuts The Milwaukee Board of School Directors on Thursday, May 28, 2015 approved a 2015-16 budget for Milwaukee Public Schools that prioritizes educational opportunities for the district’s 77,391 students. The approved budget, which is based upon the state budget proposal from the governor, reflects an overall reduction in spending of $28 million or 2.4 percent amid declining state and federal support. The original state budget plan cut $150 in funding for every student in public schools in Wisconsin, meaning a $12 million cut for MPS. Elimination of that cut has not yet been approved by the full legislature. MPS’ budget priorities are shaped by the district’s eight Big Ideas, a series of strategic, interdependent, districtwide objectives guided by MPS’ three goals: Academic Achievement; Student, Family and Community Engagement; and Effective and Efficient Operations. Highlights of those priorities include: • Reallocating and repurposing resources to provide maximum support to schools and students: Eighty-seven cents of every dollar in the school operations fund (87 percent)

goes directly to staff and supplies for educating students, up from 86 percent in the current year budget. Another seven cents (7 percent) fund staff that support students and schools but are not based in schools and the remaining six cents of every dollar (6 percent) fund operational expenses such as utilities, insurance, technology licenses and debt repayment. • Creating a new high school “region”: MPS schools are divided into regions to provide support and accountability for schools. A new high school “region” will group high schools in a single region to better develop strategies that meet the unique needs and challenges of high schools. • Providing additional

funding for efforts to improve attendance: Students with attendance problems are less likely to graduate from high school and more likely to drop out. The district will support a series of initiatives from grades K4-12 with the goal of improved student performance through increased attendance. • Funding for part-time staff to assist with reading and math interventions: Early signs show that the academic achievement gap is closing in some of our schools, but the changes are not happening quickly enough nor are they impacting enough students. More support in reading and math is designed to accelerate improvement. • Maintaining MPS’

commitment to arts, music and physical education along with school support teachers and parent coordinators: MPS will continue to fund the additional 100-plus art, music and PE positions added over the last three years as well as a school support teacher and parent coordinator for every school. • Adding support for after-school activities: The budget includes additional funding to support student participation in clubs, associations and organizations. • Increasing safety aides to support a rapid response team: School safety is a high priority for MPS and to help ensure that students and staff are prepared for any emergency situation, additional safety aide positions are budgeted for 2015-16. • Including a modest pay increases for most MPS employees, some of whom have experienced a salary freeze for up to six years: The total amount available is an approximately 1.62 percent increase from current pay levels for each affected group of employees, including teachers. An amendment to the budget approved by the Board will ensure that higher percentage increases go to employees making less

than $40,000 per year. The district has experienced some cost savings to help offset some state and federal cuts. Personnel costs are decreasing by $7.4 million as a result of lower average wages. Cost savings also continue due to benefit changes approved both before and after the passage of 2011 Wisconsin Act 10. The total approved budget – which includes grants and funding for Milwaukee Recreation – is $1,142,273,711, down from $1,170,412,143 in 2014-15. The 2015-16 budget will be amended in October based upon official enrollment counts for the new school year.

Foods that help keep the pounds off as you age

Study found it’s not just about calories; some foods not as bad for waistline as thought A new look at what kinds of foods might help people keep their weight in check as they age found that not all calories are created equal and some foods are not as bad for the middle-aged waistline as many believe. While men and women who ate lots of nuts, peanut butter, fish, yogurt and low-fat cheese tended to lose weight, other foods commonly seen as “unhealthy” -such as eggs, full-fat cheese and whole milk -- did not seem to make a difference in weight. On the other hand, sugary drinks and refined or starchy carbohydrates -- including white bread, potatoes and white rice -- had the opposite effect. “The idea that the human body is just a bucket for calories is too simplistic. It’s not just a matter of thinking about calories, or fat. What’s the quality of the foods we are eating? And how do we define quality?” said senior researcher Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian, of Tufts University and the Harvard School of Public Health, in Boston. In general, the researchers reported, adults gained more weight as the “glycemic load” in their diets rose. Glycemic load measures

odds differed depending on the typical quality of their protein and carbs. That was the case even when the researchers accounted for other lifestyle factors, including overall calorie intake. To Mozaffarian, that means counting calories is not enough to maintain a healthy weight in the long run.

Dietary fat was once demonized, Mozaffarian said, and that only led to people eating more refined carbs. “A lot of people still think you need to avoid fat to lose weight,” he said. Now, Mozaffarian worries that “count calories” is the new “low fat.”

both the amount of carbohydrates in the diet, and the quality of those carbohydrates, said Mozaffarian. A white-flour bagel, for instance, has a glycemic load (GL) of about 25 units, he noted; in contrast, a serving of quinoa -- a whole grain -has a GL of around 13 units, and a serving of chickpeas has a GL of only 3. In this study, every 50-unit increase in a person’s daily glycemic load -- the equivalent of two bagels -- was tied to an extra pound gained over four years. What’s more, certain foods -- like eggs and cheese -- were connected to weight gain only if people also boosted their intake of refined or

starchy carbs. Red and processed meats, meanwhile, were also tied to weight gain. Again, though, some of the harm was reduced if a person’s glycemic load was kept in check. So, Mozaffarian said, eating that burger with a salad, rather than fries, could be a smarter move. Better yet, he added, eat it without the bun. The findings, reported online in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, are based on 24 years of diet information from nearly 121,000 U.S. health professionals. At the outset, all were healthy and normal-weight, on average. Over time, the study found, people’s weight crept up -- as it tends to with age -- but the

A guide to travel insurance A sudden storm, a missed connection or a family emergency can turn a hard-earned vacation or important business trip into a big disappointment. Travel insurance can save the day, but picking the right coverage requires research, cost comparison and above all, reading the fine print. A quick online search can make it easy to identify and price highly rated travel insurance carriers. But personal circumstances and coverage should be examined thoroughly before any trip reservations are made. First, travelers should evaluate their own life, home, auto and health insurance coverage. It is wise to call personal insurance agents to discuss the future trip and its accommodations and activities. The idea is to see where personal coverage ends and where additional travel insurance might be beneficial. Some travelers, for example, might be surprised to know that their homeowners' policy actually offers liability coverage for out-of-state or foreign trips and their health insurance might offer full or partial evacuation insurance. Credit card companies may

offer additional protection. List specific risks and circumstances surrounding the trip to discuss with insurers to determine whether additional travel coverage might be necessary. For business trips, employees should repeat this process with their benefits or human resources departments. Employers that regularly do business in risky areas where crime, geopolitical conflict or rough weather are common may have specific systems in place for these issues. But it is important to know how extensive an employer's protections might be to determine whether you'll need additional coverage. Travel insurance covers these main risks: trip cancellation and/or trip interruption, baggage loss, medical and/or dental, pre-existing (medical) conditions and evacuation (medical or otherwise). It is difficult to cite average premiums for trips because every trip and traveler is different. Coverage for short domestic trips with basic coverage for cancellation or lost baggage might cost some money; comprehensive coverage for a major world

excursion may go well into the hundreds. Travel companies like airlines and cruise lines sell various forms of trip insurance, but it might be wise to buy directly from an actual insurance company in the travel insurance business, better known as a "third-party" carrier. While travel insurance sold by travel companies might be adequate, they generally cannot match the quality of coverage or customer service that a full-time insurance provider can. Before you buy travel coverage, it is particularly important to know what the policy's exclusion clause says. That section of the travel in-

surance policy indicates particular activities or circumstances that will prevent the payment of a claim. Insurance companies respond to claims when customers file documents properly. Travelers who need to make a claim should have copies of receipts, ticketing and paperwork relevant to losses such as flight delays, lost luggage or any other potential loss indicated in the policy. If the claim is the result of a criminal act, policyholders should make sure they obtain and file copies of police, hotel or other relevant documentation safely. Finally, it never hurts to visualize potential risks on

an upcoming trip. Quick online searches make it easy for travelers to check on weather and potential conflicts at their destination. The U.S. State Department features its own global travel alert and warnings webpage (http://travel.state.g ov/ content/passports/english/ alertswarnings.html) to prepare travelers for local crime, terrorist attacks or geopolitical conflict. The U.S. National Weather Service also features sites for long-term storm and hurricane prediction, though travel insurers will generally not issue coverage after a particular storm system is named. Bottom line: Travel insurance can be a financial lifesaver. However, it's important to thoroughly evaluate such coverage in light of personal and business coverage you already have and, most of all, to read the fine print.

Duke: A Life of Duke Ellington By Terry Teachout Penguin, Oct 17, 2013 Biography & Autobiography 496 pages Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington was the greatest jazz composer of the twentieth century—and an impenetrably enigmatic personality whom no one, not even his closest friends, claimed to understand. The grandson of a slave, he dropped out of high school to become one of the world’s most famous musicians, a showman of incomparable suavity who was as comfortable in Carnegie Hall as in the nightclubs where he honed his style. He wrote some fifteen hundred compositions, many of which, like “Mood Indigo” and “Sophisticated Lady,” remain beloved standards, and he sought inspiration in an endless string of transient lovers, concealing his inner self behind a smiling mask of flowery language and

June is Dairy Month. So why not celebrate with these Homemade Ice Cream Sandwiches mouth watering comfort food classics with a twist! For more healthy recipes visit DairyDaysofSummer.com Baked Cajun Mac & Cheese Ingredients 1 (14-ounce) package andouille sausage, cut into ½-inch slices 1 cup chopped red bell pepper 1 cup chopped green bell pepper ¼ cup all-purpose flour 2 cups 2% milk 2 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces ½ teaspoon black pepper ½ teaspoon salt ½ garlic powder 1 teaspoon cajun seasoning mix (Preferably Emeril's Essence®) ¼ cup of Velveeta® Cheese, cubed 2 ½ cups (about 10 ounces) grated sharp Cheddar cheese

1 (16-ounce) package elbow or penne pasta, cooked and kept warm ⅓ cup of bread crumbs ½ teaspoon of paprika - Cooking Spray - 9" x 13" baking pan

Instructions 1. Follow instructions for cooking pasta. Keep warm and reserve for later.

Ingredients 2 cup and 2 tablespoon flour ½ teaspoon baking powder ½ teaspoon baking soda ½ teaspoon salt ¾ cup butter, softened ½ cup and 2 tablespoon sugar ½ cup and 2 tablespoon brown sugar 1 egg ½ teaspoon vanilla ¾ -1cup chocolate chips Vanilla ice cream (or your favorite) sprinkles or other decorations

Instructions 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Set aside baking pans and a medium cookie scoop. In a large bowl or stand mixer, cream softened butter (always unsalted for baking!) and both sugars together until smooth. Scrape bowl as needed and prior to each new addition. Add egg and vanilla. Give a quick mix. Begin slowly adding in dry ingredients, reserving chocolate chips. When all ingredients are combined and smooth, mix in chocolate chips by hand... literally or with a spoon, your call.

2. Preheat oven 375° and spray the 9x13" pan with cooking spray.

2. Take a medium cookie scoop, scoop up to 10 balls of dough onto your baking sheet spaced evenly. Gently push 3. In a large skillet, cook sausage over medium heat until lightly browned, about 2 minutes. down on each ball of dough with the palm of your hand to Add red and green bell pepper; cook until tender, about 6 minutes. Remove from heat and create a small disc. Using your finger, smooth out any cracked set aside. edges. 4. In a medium size sauce pan combine flower, and ⅓ of the milk over medium heat. Stir continuously adding another third of the milk when mixture begins to stiffen, and the final third and stir continuously for 8 minuets or until the back of a spoon is able to be coated by the mixture and not runny. Reduce to low heat and add butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and the cajun seasoning, and stir until well blended. Stir in the Velveeta® until melted and well combined. Add in 1 cup of the sharp cheddar cheese and stir until melted an combined with sauce.

3. Bake for 8 minutes or just until the edges are turning golden. Remove baking sheet from oven, letting cookies rest for 1-2 minutes before transfering to a cooling rack. Continue process with remaining dough. Dough can also be chilled in an airtight container for several days or frozen for up to several months. Remember to label your container well with any important info - baking temp, time, type etc.

5. To the 9x13" pan ad cooked pasta, the sausage mixture and 1 cup of the cheder cheese and mix until ingredients are well combined. Add in the ½ the cheese sauce and mix with pasta mixture, than ad the remaining cheese sauce and mix until well combined. Top with bread crumbs, the remaining ½ cup of cheese, and the paprika.

4. You need small ramekins. Take a sheet of plastic wrap big enough to fit into the ramekin and have plenty of extra hanging over, stuff the center into the inside of the ramekin. It doesn't have to be perfect, just in there covering the bottom and up all sides. Again, with plenty of extra. Now scoop 1-3 good scoops of ice cream into the ramekin, how much depends on how thick you want your sandwiches to be. I suggest starting with 1 scoop, continuing with the method and adding more ice cream as needed until you are satisfied with the ice cream thickness. Take a flat bottom cup that is smaller than your ramekin. Push down on the ice cream creating a flat disc. Pull up on the plastic wrap to check thickness, add more ice cream and repeat process if necessary. When you are satisfied, pull excess plastic wrap up into a bundle sealing off the ice cream. Leave ice cream in dish and place in the freezer for several hours before removing. Once the disc is solid enough, you can remove it from the dish and let it sit in

6. Bake in the oven at 375° for 25 minutes or until cheese sauce is bubbles.

Ronald Kevin Robinson, known by many friends and colleagues as "Ron," was born May 9th 1954 to Alonzo and Theresa Robinson in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Ronald spent most of his life in Milwaukee where he attended Lee Elementary, Samuel Morris Junior High and Custer High School. In the earlier part of his life Ronald began a musical career as a guitarist, playing the rhythm guitar masterfully with various bands around the city. Ronald left town with the Sugar Hill band to take their show on the road for a while. He also played with The Directions and Step By Step bands. Ronald went on to use his magical fingers in his work for several years as a computer programmer. His most recent work involved sales and customer service using his gift of gab. Ronald was a craftsman, a "jack of many trades" handy with most tools inside and outside of the house. Ronald was known for his painting skills treating every wall, door and ceiling with precision like his very own canvas. Ronald was known to be a perfectionist when it came to landscaping. He loved to fish and cook. He was famous among family and friends, especially the kids, for his homemade mashed potatoes and barbeque chicken legs. In 2013 Ronald was recognized as a "grandfather of the year" honoree during the annual Fatherhood Summit. Ronald was a family man. He was "pops," "granddad" and "Uncle Ron" to his own but to many others as well. If you were his friend he was your true friend. He had a genuine "heart of gold" and would give you the "shirt off his back" even though he might fuss a bit about it. Okay, maybe he would fuss a lot about it. Later in life although challenged with health issues Ronald never stopped going and doing and doing. He put the energized bunny to shame. Ronald's family teased him and nicknamed him the "cat with nine lives." Ronald answered his call to leave us on Saturday May 30th. Now he can rest. Ronald was preceded in death by his father, Alonzo Robinson. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Theresa Robinson; his two brothers, Wayne (Frankie) Robinson, Kim (Terese) Robinson and his sister, Jean Marie Robinson; three children, Aaron, Sr. (Aurora), LaCesha and stepson Kevin; seven grandchildren, Brittney, Adriana, Aaron Jr., Ceshaun, Alexandria, Jayden and Diamond; the two loves of his life and mothers of his children, Denise Puckett and Sandra Edwards, two great grandkids and; a host of nieces and nephews.

5. When ready to finish and eat your sandwiches, pour favorite sprinkles or other toppings into small bowls. These items will be used to decorate the side. It's totally optional but gives a nice finished look and can be very festive depending on the occasion as well! I opted for colored sprinkles and mini chocolate chips. Nuts and crushed candy bars are also a great idea! 6. Grab one cookie, place on top of ice cream disc. Trim ice cream if necessary. Mine were slightly larger than my cookies so I trimmed the ice cream down a bit. You don't have to though. Top off with another cookie. Then using your hand, scoop up a bunch of your desired decoration and push it into the ice cream, working your way around the sandwich. Repeat with remaining sandwiches or make it a party and have everyone do their own! *Don't fully freez the formed ice cream sandwiches for an extended time as the cookies will harden up quite a bit. A few minutes at most is all that is recommend.
