Victory over violence peace rally: 'Intra-community violence has got to stop' By Steve Waring Special to the Milwaukee Times They came slowly north along Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive on a humid Saturday morning during a march, part of a Victory Over Violence Peace Rally held July 11. The march concluded at Martin Luther King Elementary School with speakers, free t-shirts, games for children and refreshments. Fortunately the march did not double as a funeral procession, although that tragedy very nearly came to pass the night before when a 15-year-old African American young man was shot in the stomach as he exited
the public basketball courts on the opposite side of the school where the rally was held the next morning. Police have no leads as to the identity of the shooter. Many of the estimated 250 participants seemed unaware of the shooting until Mayor Tom Barrett brought it up, encouraging participants to look at the makeshift memorial created for the victim. “In this city in this week, two teenaged boys, African American boys were shot and killed by other teenaged Staff Photo boys,” Mayor Barrett said. “And last night we had an- Members of Muhammad Mosque #3, located at 4202 N. Teutonia Ave., march in the other night where a teenaged Victory Over Violence rally from the statue of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on Dr. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Drive and W. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Drive, on July 11 where barbeque, games and discussion about stopping the epidemic of violence took place. The event also attracted several elected officials, including Senator Lena Taylor, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, and Ald. Joe Davis.
Milwaukee Mustangs race for gold
The Milwaukee Mustangs practice Monday - Friday at Rufus King High School. The team is hard at work preparing for the AAU 2015 National Junior Olympics Games in Norfolk, Virginia (Norfolk State University) August 1-8 2015.

Milwaukee Brewers honor the ground breaking players of the Negro Leagues

Fans receive autographs from Gilbert Hernandez Black and James Beckum, who were honored for their contributions to Negro League Baseball by the Milwaukee Brewers during a tailgate reception and special pre-game ceremony at Miller Park before the start of a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 18. As part of the tribute, Brewers players wore Milwaukee Bears uniforms. The Pirates also participated in the tribute by wearing uniforms from the “Pittsburgh Crawfords.” The Brewers defeated the Pirates 8-5.
