I Will Not Be Left Behind Continue to give me strength Lord Use me in any way To share your love and mercy And never forget to pray I know that I’m not perfect But pray to be my best For Christ like I long for Until I’m laid to rest I try not to question Why things happen the way they do I will always have faith The Lord will see me though You’re always there to listen You give me courage when I fall Your love is unconditional You gave your Son for us all My prayers are my shield For my Lord I will shine And when the trumpet sounds I will not be left behind By: Debi Reeder Peterson

~Obituary~ Shirley Ann Washington, 59, received her heavenly wings on September 30, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born in Crowville, (Franklin Parish) Louisiana to Alice Mae Childs and James Washington, both of whom preceded her in death. Shirley was the oldest of eight birth siblings, one brother who preceded her in death, (Lester Earl Washington) and one adopted sister, Kimberly Pullins Richard, who also preceded her in death. Shirley relocated from Tallulah, LA in the late 1970’s to Milwaukee, WI with extended family and later made this her home. Shirley received her formative education through the local school system in Louisiana but later received her General Equivalency Degree in the State of Wisconsin, in addition to earning a Certification as a Behavioral Health Technician which would become her life’s work. Shirley’s past employment history was in the Behavioral Health field including Sinai Samaritan, St. Michael’s and Aurora Psychiatric Hospital (formerly Milwaukee Psychiatric Hospital) where she worked for many years until her health began to decline. Shirley is best described as a natural caregiver who thoroughly enjoyed her work primarily with the geriatric population and she was loved and respected by all with whom she had contact. Shirley professed her faith in God as a young child and accepted Christ as a teenager along with two of her siblings, at the First Kingdom Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late E.E. Tutt. Shirley continued to practice her faith in her daily walk and service to God as a member of the Providence Baptist Church where she proudly served as a Mother under the guidance of Pastor Andrew Johnson. Shirley devoted her time and energy as a nurturer and caregiver to her family as much as she could before her health began to decline. She was also preceded in death by a son, Frederick Washington in 1973. Mother Washington is survived by her three adult children, Freda Washington, Theresa Washington and Henry Watson, Jr., all of Milwaukee, WI., six grandchildren, Earvin Russ III, Marquis Kirby, Marqoun Washington, Machaela Washington, Michelle Alice Mae Washington and Makiya Shirley Ann Washington of Milwaukee, WI, six siblings, Willie Mae Washington(Milwaukee, WI), Connie Washington(Winchester, VA), Sammy (Erica) Washington(Missouri City, TX) Katie (Michael) Herring, Carolyn Jones and Angela Baker, all of Monroe, LA., eighteen nieces & nephews, a long-time friend and co-worker, Mary Harvey and a host of other extended family members and friends to whom she was very dear. Shirley’s giving heart and genuine spirit will be greatly missed by all.
