We’re finally here! LUNAFEST® is here to stay with NCTV18. You might imagine our disappointment last year in canceling this event. Hours before our second committee meeting in March 2020, we decided to cancel after watching news reports and talking with the health department, it became clear what the town’s needs were going to be moving forward last year. Nail-biter is an understatement! What we have learned from 2020 is how vital technology and clear communications are. We quickly understood what we needed to do. We were more than willing to step up and be of service to our community, staying steadfast, bringing TV and marketing reports to the island and to all who could not be here with us last year. It was hard. We made it through the pandemic, and we are so happy to have you with us tonight. Looking back, we will not forget those we lost to COVID-19. Looking forward, there is much more work to be done—more ways than one. The LUNAFEST® films remind us of this, and Memorial Day weekend event is perfect to move us forward into the new normal. The women filmmakers challenge us to think and encourage us to laugh. You may shed a tear. They tell their stories to the world, and we are so very proud to bring LUNAFEST® back to our shores. Perhaps they will inspire you to tell your story, and NCTV18 is here to help you do that. A very special thanks to our co-hosts John Shea and Joyce Pedretti. John Shea is a Primetime Emmy Award-winning actor, writer, producer, and director. Besides his film debut in the Academy Award-winning Missing, he has starred in twenty plays On and Off Broadway, in five television series, and in 50 films shot around the world. Shea has written and directed two feature films: the drama Southie, starring Donnie Whalberg, Rose McGowan, and Amanda Peet; and Grey Lady, the romantic thriller set on Nantucket, starring Eric Dane, Natalie Zea, and Amy Madigan. Both films are distributed internationally by Lionsgate.

Joyce Pedretti is a career advertising creative with a passion for film and human insights. Her profession is creating the shortest of short-story telling. For the past three decades, Pedretti’s campaigns for global brands have helped consumers, from fighting migraines to picking the perfect snack. Pedretti currently holds the positions of Executive Vice President and Sr. Creative Director at the prestigious global advertising agency BBDO, where her work has been recognized and awarded for outstanding creativity and efficacy.

about nctv18 Our Mission: To inspire the Nantucket community to explore ideas, share information, and highlight the island’s people, stories, and culture through local television and online programming. Nantucket Community Television (NCTV18) is an essential and vital grassroots journalism resource for all residents and visitors on Nantucket. The station is a unique resource: it is already serving critical information needs on the island, such as local governmental meetings and emergency broadcasts on local TV channel 18, and providing communications to the world via our digital channels. Our mission is two-fold: 1) to provide knowledge, training, and educational interests for anyone interested in the media arts; 2) to capture and broadcast Nantucket’s rich history and cultural importance. With financial support, we will continue to contribute to community building and will spark innovation through new programs for all Nantucket residents, year-round or seasonal, including visitors to our island. NCTV18 is the only television channel and station that serves Nantucket. We are a community public access, PEG station (public, education, and government), a nonprofit 501(c)3. This designation means we focus our broadcasts on public, educational, and governmental matters. We are the go-to resource for media arts classes and workshops for adult and youth students; we teach broadcast and communication design fundamentals. Professionals teaching at NCTV are available for mentoring students who are focused on media arts and communication design and are working on portfolios required for university applications. We serve as a crucial media partner to many of our island’s nonprofits, including the Town of Nantucket and the Nantucket Public Schools. As a nonprofit, we have earned GuideStar Gold status for transparency. NCTV18 received awards in 2018, 2019, and 2020 from The Massachusetts Creator Awards, which recognizes outstanding work in television and media within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

NCTV Fundraising Goals The completion of Studio A will: Streamline production. NCTV will have the ability to air live, high-quality programming from the studio. Funds raised support the LUNAFEST® mission and will help our upcoming construction of Studio A, NCTV’s new broadcast studio, and will help expand our education center. Help us reach our goals.
