I was once channel surfing with a friend late one night. All of a sudden she yelled out “that’s my hairdresser”. Turned out her hairdresser was a pesticides activist in her spare time and hosted a once-a-month program on the dangers of common household products. We weren’t looking for information on toxins in cosmetics. We started watching because we knew this person. And we stayed watching because we learned something: both about the subject and about someone who lived in our neighborhood. That’s the importance of community media: the proximity that brings issues and people together that might never ordinarily bump into each other though they live side by side. It is only mass communications that provides the opportunity for someone to stumble upon something unique when they tire of watching Inside Edition. Every time it happens, it’s a little miracle. 2018 ANNUAL REPOR T

CHANGING TECHNOLOGY TECHNOLOGY IS A WAVE: YOU CAN EITHER RIDE OR WIPE OUT. Regardless of your personal opinion—Luddite or technophile—the rapid advance of technology isn’t going to slow any time soon. More and more small businesses that fail to adapt are going to find themselves left behind while the savvy ones who learn to keep up will reap the rewards. You don’t have to rebuild your business from the ground up—there’s some kernel of merit that’s allowed you to enjoy success thus far. You just have to understand how technology affects your business (for better or worse) and how to apply advancements in order to play them to your advantage. “While the proliferation of new avenues with which to reach consumers has increased exponentially, it has not always translated into greater consumer engagement. Surveys have found that two-thirds of Internet users viewed online advertising in a negative light, with users having used “annoying” and “distracting” as the most common ways to describe online advertising. Furthermore, many consumers are taking matters into their own hands to avoid unwanted marketing and using ad-blocker technology to filter out advertising; accordingly, in 2016 ad-blocker use grew by 30 percent. The growth of digital advertising and its corresponding hurdles have spurred entrepreneurs to develop systems and processes to facilitate digital advertising, track results, and optimize effectiveness. In 2016, Adtech, or Advertising Technology, saw nearly $2.2 billion of investor funds flow into the sector. From interactive advertising, to personalization, to value-exchange, to native advertising, Adtech entrepreneurs are using technology to develop innovative ways to connect companies with consumers.” Read more by clicking here — Huffington Post

Media is very important for the society since it is one of the fastest and efficient way to receive information on various subjects, most importantly current affairs. The impact of media is very important on society as it helps in building public opinion and stoke collective consciousness.

VALUE OF MEDIA ARTS TO AN OPEN MIND IS LIKE...

HISTORY, because the media interpret the past to us show us what has gone into making us the way we are. GEOGRAPHY, because the media define for us our own place in the world. CIVICS, because the media help us to understand the workings of our immediate world, and our individual places in it. LITERATURE, because the media are major sources of modern culture and entertainment. THEORY, because the media require us to learn and use critical thinking skills. BUSINESS, because the media are major industries and are inextricably involved in commerce. LANGUAGE, because the media help define how we communicate with each other. SCIENCE, because the media help us to learn technology by adopting the leading edge of modern technological innovation. CULTURAL STUDIES, because the media determine much of our cultural diet and weave part of the fabric of our lives. ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES, because the media are as big a part of our everyday environment as are trees, mountains, rivers, cities and oceans. PHILOSOPHY, because the media interpret our world, its values and ideas to us. PSYCHOLOGY, because the media helps us (mis)understand ourselves and others. INDUSTRIAL ARTS, because the media are carefully planned, designed and constructed products. THE ARTS, because through the media we experience all the arts as no other age has ever done. POLITICS, because the media bring us political and ideological messages all the time - yes - all the time. RHETORIC, because the media use special codes and conventions of their own languages that we need to understand. DRAMA, because the media help us understand life by presenting it as larger-than-life, and compel us to think in terms of the audience. EVEREST, because they are there.

BUILDING ON A LEGACY With your help, together, we got this.

We are thrilled with our new location and have created a virtual tour showing our main floor station and the lower level floor—an empty basement. The first floor will be expanded into a large studio classroom, private editing rooms, meeting room and offices. OUR GOAL IS TO RAISE $300,000
