A NEW DIRECTI ON MI SSI ON, VI SI ON, VALUES, AND ST RAT E GIC OB JE C T IV E S In early 2017, a committee comprised of board members and staff was formed to craft a new mission, vision, and values. Through this process, an updated strategic plan was also created, guiding the organization for the next three seasons.

Our Mission: Minnesota Opera changes lives by bringing together artists, audiences, and community, advancing the art of opera for today and for future generations.

Our Vision: Minnesota Opera will sing every story.

Our Values: Collaboration, Inclusivity, Innovation, Purpose

Strategic Objectives:

Bringing together artists, audiences, and our community by: • Deepening and broadening our education programs; • Taking opera into the community in a way that responds to and resonates with community values; • Improving diversity, equality, and inclusivity across every aspect of the opera; • Raising awareness of the opera locally and growing our reputation in the industry; • Creating an environment where all staff feel supported and valued. Advancing the art of opera for today and for future generations by: • Achieving near- and long-term financial stability and funding a modest, above-inflation increase in the annual budget; • Continuing to develop and support new works; • Maintaining artistic quality while continuing to challenge artists and surprise audiences; • Training the next generation of artists, technicians, and administrators.

A NE W ID E NTIT Y T E L L I NG STO R IE S. TA K IN G RI SKS. Trailblazing, stirring, and unforgettable, Minnesota Opera’s world-class productions tell transporting stories that capture the attention of national audiences. We are devoted to forging the future of opera. We sing this vision through every note, bringing to life innovative, inspiring experiences of sound and wonder for audiences, artists, and the larger community. Since our founding, we set out to do what we do today: break conventions and set new standards. This drives us to sing pioneering new works, and beloved, enduring classics alike. Our dearly held values of inclusion and diversity fuel us as we advance new initiatives in education and community engagement. We’ve created a new identity that captures our unrelenting passion for innovation in opera. Letterforms move and rotate to continually reimagine the word “opera”. As these elements come together to create our new look, they will continue to support our commitment to advance the opera art form—now and every season yet to come.
