RAGAZZI is a mixed group of talented singers in grades 4 – 8. Students explore the world of opera and choral music, and develop skills in multi-part singing in foreign languages. In Minnesota Opera’s 2014-2015 season, the children’s chorus will feature Ragazzi members in mainstage performances of Hansel and Gretel and Carmen. GIOVANI is a mixed group of students in grades 9 – 12 who develop the fundamentals of solo singing and acting. This season, participants will perform an age-appropriate opera at the Lab Theater, as well as a concert in the Ordway’s new Concert Hall with Minnesota Youth Symphonies.

Project Opera Minnesota Opera’s unique vocal training program is looking for talented students (grades 4 – 12) who want to learn about singing, acting, and opera. Project Opera performs in a staged operatic setting and in individual solo settings. Students gain knowledge in vocal technique, stage movement, and foreign languages.

APPRENTICES are a small, select group of advanced Giovani students, who develop their solo singing, stage presence, and advanced language skills, with an emphasis on college preparation. Students serious about pursuing a career in singing are ideal candidates for this program.

There are three ensembles Ragazzi, Giovani, and Apprentices. Performance Venues include Ordway in Saint Paul as well as locations around the Twin Cities and statewide.

“The Minnesota Opera experience has allowed my students to ‘dream’ of opera. They are still creating stories in their minds, talking about Mozart, and using their new Italian words to express praise. They are excited to use their own voice and experiment with all that it can do. This experience was one that will have a lasting impact on their musical learning and appreciation.”
