The Awaited Wind of Change
During the hot humid weather, snakes tend to come out of holes; they may or may not be biting anyone indiscriminately along the way. Then there are snakes in the human form that act as snake of the sleeve, and if the weather is permitting they are available for any indecent act depending on the nature of strategy. Other example is of the parliamentarians at home or in the exile: Unlike snakes, this category of democratic snakes takes orders and act as told. They always look well equipped with their mouthing ammunition to do shouting to please the hidden master; they become as aggressive as they can - just to defame the most loved institutions of Pakistan regardless of the consequences. In other words, they just wait for the right moment for attack and come out in the open bickering about their “tailored-displeasure” with the very existence of Pakistan in general and the Pak military (along with its main spy agency) in particular. Who are they trying to please and what are they gaining from the nasty agenda is a trillion dollar question, of course. Being anti militancy is perfectly okay, yet being anti military is construed as being anti Pakistan. It’s about time to deal with the “snake like behaviour” through employing the snake charmer’s assistance to weed out the huge pile up of strategic serpents in hiding inside the various institutions of the country. There is a great deal of threats from the insiders who are working as proxy for the outsiders. Thank God! Human snakes are showing up little by little. So far some are brave enough to accuse the Pak military so openly that the hostile neighbour’s
joy needs no bounds. Muhajir card: After migrating to Pakistan, non-Urdu speaking migrants are proud to be called Pakistani nationals, but when it comes to the Karachi followers of the self exiled leader Altaf Hussain (British national), they are conveniently grouped as Muhajirs, and the children born to the members of this group are made part of the Muhajir group as well--- not only that’s intriguing but it’s pathetic and funny as they should not be doing the nonsense. Nevertheless, reason is simple: Altaf Hussain uses ‘muhajir card’ to have stronger mandate at election time as well as he uses this as a tool to scare off the ruling elite of the time to his greatest advantage as a political maneuver---believe it or not. Also, the terrified media is programmed to televise his telephonic speeches for hours and hours otherwise there are reprisals and repercussions. Is it a real democracy? Altaf Hussain speaks with difficulty. Not a single word is clear enough to be appreciated. So this man ends up getting ridiculed instead. Funny thing is the slow paced speech of Altaf Hussain and his body language and gestures are so funny that the irked audience have their eyebrows raised. With his constipated speeches, Altaf plays games as a paid con-artist; he is master of emotional black mailing to get his audience’ attention. Also, he is addicted to blackmail the ruling elite in order to negotiate for a few of the cabinet portfolios in the provincial and federal assemblies. The MQM has been on board almost with all regimes, but now he and his cronies are deadly against Rangers’ operation. Double standards!
Certainly, the ongoing immature democracy in Pakistan is good for a few groups looking after the vested interests only. They can flourish through money laundering and outsourcing their businesses while keeping their own populace unemployable at home shamelessly. Be it Altaf Hussain, the defence minister Khawaja Asif or the quitting federal minister Mushahid Hussain, there is always a price tag to pay for being mouth-piece of the hidden hand. It’s just different faces at different times for the same end in sight that may include strengthening of a softer corner in favour of India but weakening the strength of Pak military and its affiliated spy agencies; their strategy is so designed that damaging the good image of the most loved institutions of Pakistan are a target (directly or indirectly). Judicial commission: Though irregularities were judicially noticed, yet the stolen mandate in the form of organized rigging could not be proved before the judicial commission. The word ‘munazzam’ (organised) seems to have been added trickily to the word dhandli (rigging), it was really a tricky one as it made the organized rigging an “evidence-deficient-allegation.” Problem is the Pakistani democracy needs crutches of friendly opposition to continue which itself is undemocratic. Furthermore, the N league has taken so much of foreign debt that Pakistani kids and the future generations would have a tough time paying off the menace. Only a miraculous recovery may help the poor kids out of the debt quagmire.
Poor Pakistani people who had to live with the paralysed Zardari regime for five years are now enjoying other government born out of the irregularly conducted elections. Pakistan spent too much time and resources for grilling Altaf Hussain of MQM for having an affair with the RAW of India, and now the current ruling elite is busy hurting the reputation of the Pak military and its affiliated secret agencies. Since the rangers’ operation in Karachi is going as planned, extortion incidents and target killing cases are on the decrease drastically. Truth is the political parties do depend on their armed wings and they see the operation as a big threat to their militancy and their illegitimate sources of income. Like snakes, our politicians in power may have a heat sense, however, they are unable to reach their nefarious goals because their heat sense remains their “nonsense,” indeed. And like snakes these miserable politicians may attack without actually seeing their prey! Don’t mess up with the military! No pangga is only changga. Maybe due to their keen sensitivity to the boots related vibrations through the ground, the corrupt rulers may misunderstand and presume the ground troops are coming to haunt them. Message to the civil society: Beware of politicking snakes. Good news is the Pakistani civil armed forces and the military are on the same page to make a logical ending of the ongoing war against terror. There are positive results in Karachi while Waziristan seems to be returning to normal sooner than expected and new horizon is opening up for the suffering Pakistanis.
‘BAN ANIMAL CRUELTY’! There is a worldwide painful uproar for the killing of a popular Lion Cecil by an American Dr. Palmer. It sounds like this is the first time ever killing and poaching of exotic animals for fun and game. This is the regular fun sport of Dr. Palmer and many others, who are not aware of the Divine rules. Even the Chief Priest of Bhora community Syedna Mufaddal is an avid hunter. Its been going on for centuries as some describes it as hunting is the enjoyable ‘Social Sport’. How can killing be the enjoyable sport? Sir Roger Moore describes it as: “Hunting is a sickness, a perversion, and danger, people who get their ‘amusement’ from hunting and killing can only be suffering from a mental disorder”. Well in that case all the killers of innocent human beings too can be suffering from ‘mental disorder’. or rather possessed by evil. Few weeks ago Mama Bear was killed (out of fear) in the House looking for food for her and her two Baby Bears. Instead of providing the most needed food was killed for trespassing, not realizing that we are the ones trespassers in their homeland of Jungle, they have a right to wonder where they want to and must not be killed when they invade our beautiful Gardens and homes
Mulcair ignores journalists after thrashing Harper for ignoring journalists
By:Liberal Party of Canada Mulcair commits major gaffe on day one by refusing to take questions Continuing his pattern of contradictions, Thomas Mulcair avoided all questions at his campaign launch after criticizing Harper for the exact same behaviour: “Stephen Harper wants to be the Prime Minister of a G-8 country… and yet he wants to do it without talking to the public, without talking to journalists.” (Thomas Mulcair, Huffington Post, October 3, 2013) What questions is Mulcair trying to avoid? Why does Thomas Mulcair want to rip up the Clarity Act, making it easier for separatists to break up Canada? Why does Thomas Mulcair say different things in different parts of the country on the exact same topic? “[Mulcair] tap-dances around NDP contradictions… The NDP leader weaved his way between competing positions that threaten to get him trouble in one part of the country or another… policies that are winners for them in Quebec, are toxic for them in the rest of the country.” (National Post, July 20, 2015) Why is Thomas Mulcair deliberately misleading Canadians by touting a “federal minimum wage” that will apply to less than

Dependency on HIM is the permanent right guidance that doesn’t flip flop like man’s guidance. However, 14C. ago mankind was given all the commands of the rule of law by the Creator to how to deal with fellow mankind and animals. The only time animals are allowed to kill is for food and the strict procedure to be followed for painless slaughtering known as Halal. Killing with Bow and Arrow or a Gun is forbidden, unless if the human life is in danger then only killing is allowed in defense.

US terms action against Haqqani network inadequate
In a move that has blocked the disbursement of the next tranche of Coalition Support Fund (CSF), the United States has told Pakistan that it would not be certifying to the Congress that its (Pakistani) counter-terrorism operation in North Waziristan damaged the Haqqani network. This was conveyed by the US Department of Defence to the Pakistani mission in Washington as well as to the authorities in Islamabad, according to a highly placed source. The Foreign Office did not immediately reply to a question about the US communication, but a senior official based at the FO, speaking in private, said they had been informally told about the decision. Obama administration refuses to certify to Congress that the group was damaged in Zarb-i-Azb operation The US move is politically more damaging for Islamabad than its financial impact, which is significant nevertheless for being an important source for narrowing the current account deficit. More importantly, it coincided with the deterioration in ties with Afghanistan because of Kabul’s allegations that Islamabad continued to harbour Taliban bases from where attacks were being launched. The US decision is also likely to sour ties in the run-up to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s scheduled visit to White House in October. The US has been reimbursing Pakistan for operations and maintenance costs incurred in direct support of its operations in Afghanistan since 2001. So far $13 billion has been reimbursed to Pakistan under this arrangement. The CSF arrangement was supposed to end with the com-
pletion of the drawdown in Dec 2014, but the US government late last year extended the programme for another year through legislation which envisaged additional conditions, including a requirement for certification by the defence secretary that military operations in North Waziristan have significantly disrupted the safe haven and freedom of movement of the Haqqani network in Pakistan. The certification has to be made by the US defence secretary to congressional committees after every six months. The last tranche of $337 million was received by Pakistan last month. The non-certification will affect the disbursement of the next instalment. It comes at a time when the US is discussing the future of CSF post-2016. Doubts have been expressed in the past by both the US and Afghanistan that the Haqqani network has been spared in the Operation Zarb-i-Azb. But it’s the first time that the US has taken such a harsh step. It also shows how seriously the Americans take the continuing threat posed by the Haqqani network, whose current chief Sirajuddin Haqqani earlier this month took over as Taliban’s deputy chief during the succession in the insurgent group that followed the disclosure about Taliban chief Mullah Omar’s death. Pakistani military has, however, been insisting that “terrorists of all shades” were targeted in Zarb-i-Azb launched in June last year. The operation is in its final phases and the ground offensive for clearing Shawal valley is expected soon. The military has over the past few days stepped up air strikes against terrorist targets in Shawal, killing dozens of terrorists and “damaging their (terrorist) infrastructure, including an ammunition dump”. Despite differences over the Haqqani network, the US has been appreciative of the North Waziristan operation. Some US officials have, however, been cautious in media comments regarding their assessment about the impact of operation on the Haqqani network as they say: “We welcome Pakistan’s public commitment that the operation is and would be indiscriminate.” But they wouldn’t be more specific about their assessment. They further say that it is important that terrorist safe havens do not re-emerge in the area. Source: Dawn.com

Reham won’t attend PTI events in future, says Imran
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday lashed out on Twitter against “attacks” on wife Reham Khan following the NA-19 by-polls. He said he was “appalled & disgusted by attacks on Reham” after the party’s candidate faced defeat at the hands of PML-N leader Babar Nawaz during the by-elections for the Haripur constituency. He defended his wife’s visit to the constituency to campaign for PTI candidate Raja Aamir Zaman saying, “Reham has only attended PTI functions at the constant insistence of PTI members”. He stated that while Reham would not hold any positions in the party, contest elections on a PTI ticket, hold any position in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government or be given official protocol, she was “politicised”. Khan also said that the PTI was “opposed to all forms of nepotism”. Source: dawn.com

Figures show record influx amid continued regime attacks of migrants into Europe UN backs Syria peace plan
The UN Security Council has unanimously approved a statement backing intensive preparatory talks on key issues to restore peace to Syria, as scores were killed in fresh government air strikes on suburban Damascus. The development might be a sign of a deeper change in the UN’s most powerful body as it has been deeply divided over how to end the war which has killed more than 250,000 people. The 15-member Council only adopts statements by consensus. The text was drafted by the five permanent members, the US, Russia, China, Britain and France, following a briefing by UN mediator Staffan de Mistura nearly three weeks ago. De Mistura proposed inviting Syria’s warring parties to take part in four UN-led working groups on how to implement a roadmap to peace, since the groups were not ready to hold formal peace talks. The UN statement supports De Mistura’s plan to work towards “political negotiations and a political transition” based on the Geneva Communique, which was adopted in 2012 by the first international conference on the issue and later endorsed by the Security Council. The communique calls for the establishment of a transitional governing body, with full executive powers and made up by members of the present government and the opposition and other groups, as part of agreed principles and guidelines for a Syrian-led political transition. Rafael Ramirez, Venezuela’s UN ambassador, said
that his country disagreed with some parts of the statement but reaffirmed its support for De Mistura’s efforts. “This council must be impartial and objective in dealing with the Syrian crisis; disregarding first of all the legitimacy of the government of President Bashar al-Assad violates the sovereignty of these people,” Ramirez told the Security Council. Strikes on Douma. Meanwhile, Syrian warplanes continued attacks on the Damascus suburb of Douma on Tuesday as the death toll from air strikes on a market in the area on Sunday reached 111, according to local rescue workers. The market attack was condemned by the UN humanitarian chief, Stephen O’Brien, who said he was “horrified by the total disrespect for civilian life in this conflict”. Other rebel-held Damascus suburbs have also been targeted in recent days. “[The government forces] are trying to send a message to the civilians that they will be punished for the actions of the rebels,” Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr, reporting from neighbouring Lebanon, said. A Syrian government crackdown on a pro-democracy movement in 2011 led to an armed uprising. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group has since seized on the chaos to declare a so-called caliphate in territory they have seized in Syria and neighbouring Iraq. The UN has said that some 250,000 people have been killed and an estimated 7.6 million are internally displaced. Another four million people have fled Syria Source: Al-Jazeera
Turkey PM gives up on forming new government Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has formally given up trying to form the next government after weeks of coalition talks failed, raising the prospect of a fractious interim administration. Davutoglu met President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday to formally acknowledge he cannot form a coalition government, paving the way for new elections just months after June polls. In line with procedure, Davutoglu returned to Erdogan the mandate he received from the president on July 9 to begin coalition talks with opposition parties, the president’s office said in a statement. With all possibilities exhausted before a August 23 deadline to form the new government, Turkey is now facing snap new polls and entering uncharted political territory. The elections should be held 90 days after they are called, meaning that Sunday, November
22 would be a possibility were Erdogan to call the polls shortly after the expiration of the August 23 deadline. In a major setback for Erdogan, the ruling AK Party lost its overall majority in the June 7 legislative polls for the first time since it came to power in 2002. Al Jazeera’s Bernard Smith, reporting from Istanbul, said since the AK Party lost its majority, it has not been able to find new coalition partners. He said the ruling party lost its majority primarily because the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) won more than 10 percent of the vote, for the first time getting representation in the assembly. “The AK Party was forced to look for coalition partners and it has not been able to find any. It tried with the main secular opposition party, the CHP, but the CHP wanted a four-year-long coalition and the AK Party wanted a short-term
A record 107,500 migrants crossed the European Union’s borders last month, according to new figures, showing they are arriving in dramatically increasing numbers and creating a humanitarian crisis for the 28-nation bloc. Frontex, the EU border agency, reported on Tuesday that its latest figures far outstripped the previous monthly record in June of 70,000. During the first seven months of the year, there were nearly 340,000 migrants, up from 123,500 during the same period last year, Frontex said. “This is an emergency situation for Europe that requires all EU member states to step in to support the national authorities who are taking on a massive number of migrants at its borders,” Fabrice Leggeri, Frontex director, said in a to Britain through the Channel tunnel have statement. Harper Extends Best Wishes On The 68Th Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Anniversary Of Pakistan’s Independence Trudeau on Pakistan’s Independence Day Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued this statement to mark the 68th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence: “On this day sixty-eight years ago, Pakistan became an independent state. “Today we have the opportunity to recognize the ties between Canada and Pakistan and especially the significant contributions made by Canada’s large Pakistani community to the building of our country. “I was pleased to recognize the contributions of Canadians of Pakistani origin by appointing Salma Ataullahjan, who is of Pakistani origin, as a Conservative Senator in 2010. “I extend my best wishes to everyone in Canada and around the world celebrating Pakistan’s Independence Day.”
The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement in recognition of Pakistan’s Independence Day: “Today, those who trace their roots to Pakistan commemorate 68 years of the country’s independence. I join with members of Canada’s Pakistani community as they come together in celebration of their vibrant heritage and culture. “This day serves as an excellent opportunity for all Canadians to acknowledge our many shared values – values including hard work, community, tradition, and our ability to come together when facing challenges. On this day, we pay tribute to the important contributions that Pakistani-Canadians have made to our country, where we recognize that we are stronger not in spite of our differences, but precisely because of them. “On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada, Sophie and I extend our very best wishes to all those observing Pakistan’s Independence Day.”
By B.C. New Democrat on celebration of 69th Independence Day in Pakistan Bruce Ralston, the New Democrat spokesperson for International Trade, Immigration, and Multiculturalism released the following statement in celebration of Independence Day in Pakistan. “On behalf of our leader, John Horgan and British Columbia’s New Democrat caucus, I would like to extend my best wishes to all those celebrating the 69th Pakistan Independence Day. It was on August 14, 1947 that Pakistan became a fully sovereign nation. “For decades, people of Pakistani descent have endured, prospered and made important contributions to British Columbia. The Pakistani community continues to flourish and add to our economy and rich, diverse society. “I hope British Columbians will join with us once more in acknowledging those contributions and wishing, on behalf of our entire caucus, a happy Pakistan Independence Day.”
By NDP on celebration of 69th Independence Day of Pakistan On behalf of Tom Mulcair, Leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada, and New Democrats from coast to coast to coast, I extend my warmest wishes to all those celebrating Pakistan Independence Day. The independence of Pakistan over the past 68 years has had an incredible impact on Canada. Many Pakistanis immigrated to Canada and brought with them their values of hard work and determination. Diversity is one of Canada’s great strengths and deserves to be celebrated. The Pakistani community in Canada has enriched our social, economic and cultural landscape. I encourage all Canadians to partake in local celebrations to mark 68 years of independence in Pakistan. Jinny Sims Surrey-Newton

Central African Republic: Meeting of ‘the blob’ and Amnesty - Muslims ‘Erased’ Godzilla El Niño could From Central African Republic leave B.C. dry and drier
Militias have taken advantage of the political vacuum in Central African Republic (CAR), engaging in ethnic cleansing towards Muslims in a bid to erase the community from the country, human rights group Amnesty International has said. Discussing Friday’s report, entitled “Erased identity: Muslims in ethnically cleansed areas of the Central African Republic,” Joanne Mariner, a senior crisis response adviser at the UK-based organisation, told Al Jazeera that Muslims in the western half of the country were being repressed and forced to abandon their religion. More than 30,000 Muslims are living in seven enclaves guarded by UN troops across the country, but for those living outside, especially in rural areas, they are being targeted with impunity, the report found. “They not allowed to express themselves as Muslims; if they are outside the enclaves, they cannot pray, dress in any way that identifies them as Muslim,” Mariner said. “Their survival depends on a daily routine of negotiation with anti-Balaka fighters.” Mariner said that many had been forced convert to Christianity or face persecution from the community. More than one million people have been displaced since Muslim-led Seleka rebels took control of Bangui, the capital, in March 2013. Following a spate of abuses by the Seleka rebels, vigilante groups known as anti-Balaka (anti-machete) emerged to fight off the new leadership. But the anti-Balaka, made up of animist and Christian fighters, also targeted the country’s Muslim minority, seen as sympathetic to the Seleka. Amnesty’s report, based on a series of interviews with residents across CAR, says militias “unleashed a violent wave of ethnic cleansing aimed at forcing Muslims to leave the country”. “The continued insecurity and threat from the antiBalaka comes from there being an absence
of a state,” Marina said. Though violence in CAR has tapered off since late 2014, the country remains largely insecure. The collapse of the state apparatus and the fragility of the transitional government have left parts of the country to the mercy of militia groups in the hinterlands. Concerns remain that despite the perceived calm, the root causes of the crisis have yet to be addressed. Amnesty’s report comes just days after the International Rescue Committee said CAR “needs a new start, or it will become the case study of a failed state”. In April, a US envoy said that almost all of the 436 mosques in CAR have been destroyed in the violence. Samantha Power, US ambassador to the UN, called the devastation “kind of crazy, chilling”. Amnesty said in Friday’s report that none of the mosques outside Bangui, and the town of Carnot, have been repaired or rebuilt. One of the “clearest signs of the intensity of sectarian animus was the destruction of the country’s mosques,” the organisation said. More than 6,000 people have been killed since the crisis began in March 2013. “The key challenge is a lack of security. The government understands they have a long way to go [but] they need to be able to assert control over these far flung areas,” Mariner said. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said this week that more than 1,000 people were still looking for their loved ones, a year after being separated from them during the wave of violence. “In this part of the country, very few families have been spared the pain and uncertainty of being separated from loved ones,” Scott Doucet, head of the ICRC sub-delegation for the west of the country, said. The UN says that that 2.7 million people, more than half the population, are still in need of aid, while 1.5 million people were affected by food insecurity. The global body’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says humanitarian needs continue to exceed resources available. Meanwhile Doctors without Borders (MSF) has previously described the country to be in a state of a protracted chronic health emergency. CAR has been led by a transitional government since January 2014. The country is schedule to hold presidential and parliamentary vote scheduled on October 18. Source: AllAfrica
What will happen when “the blob” meets “Godzilla” off the coast of the Pacific Northwest later this year? The question might sound like science fiction, but B.C. scientists say they are fascinated and watching closely. Experts forecast this year could bring one of the most intense El Niño events in recorded history, of such strength that some scientists recently dubbed it the “Godzilla El Niño.” The El Niño is expected to bring another warm, dry winter to southern B.C., and experts are watching to see how it combines with a warm-water phenomenon called “the blob” already being observed off the coast of the Pacific North West. “This is where it starts to sound really science fiction, but how these two worlds are coming together ... we haven’t seen anything like this before,” said Peter Chandler, an oceanographer with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans on Vancouver Island. It’s estimated there’s a 90-per-cent chance of the El Niño lasting through the winter, said Environment Canada meteorologist Matt MacDonald, which could bring warm, dry conditions on the B.C. coast this winter. Since last year, scientists have been watching “the blob,” a swath of warmer-than-normal water in the Pacific, roughly the area of B.C. and 100 metres deep. Chandler said scientists are already monitoring the impacts of the warm water on B.C. fish. “Any change of this magnitude in the ocean conditions is going to be reflected in the ecosystem,” he said. “And some species are going to do better, and some species are going to do worse.” Simon Donner, a climate scientist in UBC’s geography department, said: “We might be excited to see dry, mild weather in January when we’re not used to it. “But we have to remember that our infrastructure and our ecology around here is also not used to it ... It’s affecting the forests, it’s affecting the reservoirs, it’s affecting industries, whether that’s fisheries, forestry, ski operations, tourism, and certainly agriculture.” Businesses reliant on the weather are keeping close tabs on the El Niño prediction for the upcoming months. At Coast Gravity Park in Sechelt, spokesman Darren Hemstreet said they are in a temperate zone already and get very little snow during the winter. As a mountain bike park operator,
Hemstreet welcomes the warmer forecast. He noted that in past years they were able to ride daily through the winter months. ”We have only had snow for five days in the past six years,” he said. “If it turns out to be warmer this winter it would be awesome for people in the bike business.” Martin Littlejohn, executive director of the Mountain Bike Tourism Association, said many ski resorts see the ongoing climate change as the time to get into promoting summer activities such as hiking and mountain biking. “Quite a few resorts are now expanding and opening up lift-accessed mountain-bike riding,” he said. “That seems to be a trend. The resorts are getting in on the biking because they see the effects of climate change. The mountain biking and summer activities are certainly making up for the difference in the winter business.” B.C.’s wine industry is also adapting to the warming trend. Joe Luckhurst, general manager of Road 13 Vineyards near Oliver, said: “We are getting out of certain varieties of grapes that will not thrive in this climate and putting in grapes that will thrive with more heat.” Lori Daniels, an associate professor in UBC’s forestry faculty, said an El Niño winter will likely mean that the province sees another bad forest fire season. “Brace for round two of the fires next summer,” Daniels said. “For us in B.C., less snow does not bode well. There is consequences with a low snowpack. “Our forests are highly stressed. And what we are finding in the sites where there is not enough snowpack (is) the roots are being jeopardized.” Source: The Province
The polls go up, the polls go down. What has remained constant is the close contest between all three parties, with the New Democrats leading most of the time, the Conservatives usually second, and the Liberals in third. But the polls also suggest that some potentially more enduring trends are unfolding at the regional level. The latest poll added to the CBC Poll Tracker, an Abacus Data survey published Tuesday and placing the NDP in the lead nationally with 35 per cent, followed by the Conservatives at 29 per cent and the Liberals at 26 per cent, has widened the advantage the New Democrats have over the other parties. The NDP leads with 33.5 per cent support in the averages, with the Conservatives at 29.4 per cent and the Liberals at 26.7 per cent. The Greens are averaging 5.8 per cent support, while the Bloc Québécois has slipped to just 15.5 per cent in Quebec. The trend lines drawn out by these averages since the beginning of the campaign represent a wobbling back-and-forth for each of the parties. The polls have been quite consistent for both the Conservatives and the Liberals. The Tories have ranged between 27 and 32 per cent since
the start of the campaign, and in twothirds of those polls the Conservatives have registered at least 29 per cent support. The Liberals, meanwhile, have been between 26 and 29 per cent in seven of the last nine polls. But the New Democrats have been all over the map. With a range of between 29 and 39 per cent since the beginning of the campaign, and with no discernible trend, the NDP appears to be most at mercy of sampling error and, perhaps, fleeting movement to another party. Even if the highest and lowest outliers are dropped from their ranges, they have still been pegged at anywhere between 30 and 35 per cent support, enough to put them narrowly in second place or comfortably in first. That means that if an election were held today, the party could easily find itself at either extreme of the NDP’s projected likely seat range: 113 to 142 seats. This effectively puts them in a tie with the Conservatives, who range between a projected 106 and 147 seats. The Liberals, at between 69 and 98 seats, are solidly back in third place after flirting with the Conservatives’ low range of seats. Source: CBC News
Canada sixth in world for human Poll Tracker: NDP continues to lead freedom, study says subtly shifting national race Canada ranks sixth out of 152 countries and regions when it comes to human freedom while its southern neighbour is 20th, a new study suggests The index, compiled by the Fraser Institute and public-policy think-tanks in Germany and the United States, uses 76 indicators of personal, civil and economic freedoms. Hong Kong tops the rankings followed by Switzerland, Finland, Denmark and New Zealand rounding out the top five. Other notable countries are Australia in seventh place, the United Kingdom in the ninth position and Germany in 12th place. The least free country in the index is Iran. The Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, Zimbabwe and Yemen round out the bottom five. According to the data, Canada scores well on security and safety, the rule of law and economic freedom which is based on personal choice, trade openness, freedom to compete, security of private property and judicial independence. Study editor Fred McMahon says
the goal of the index is to measure the degree to which people are free to enjoy classic civil liberties — freedom of speech, religion, individual economic choice, and association and assembly. “We also look at the rule of law, which is essential for freedoms, as well as indicators of crime and violence, freedom of movement, limits on freedom due to sexual orientation, and women’s freedoms,” McMahon said. As for the United States coming in at No. 20, McMahon says the data points to a “significant weakening of the rule of law” and an erosion of property rights and “an expansion of quasijudicial regulations” over time. Guardians of the Natural Order By: Fazlun Khalid The Islamic approach to environmental protection …In our eagerness to ‘progress’ and ‘develop’ we have lost sight of the finite and delicate nature of planet Earth and of humanity’s place in it. Islamic teaching offers an opportunity to understand the natural order and to define human responsibility. It could be said that the limits of the human condition are set within four principles – Tawheed, Fitra, Mizan and Khalifa. Tawheed is the fundamental statement of the oneness of the Creator, from which everything else follows. It is the primordial testimony to the unity of all creation and to the interlocking grid of the natural order of which humanity is an intrinsic part. God says of Himself in the Qur’an: Say; He is God, One, God, the Everlasting Refuge (Quran 112:1-2) and about creation: To Him belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and the earth, all obey his will And it is He who originates creation, (Quran 30:25) The whole of creation – being the work of one Originator – works within one stable pattern, however complex it may be. Another verse in the Qur’an refers to the heavens and the Earth as extensions of God’s throne, thus conveying the idea that creation was designed to function as a whole. Each of its complimentary parts, including humankind, plays its own self-preserving role, and in so doing supports the rest. The Fitra describes the primordial nature of creation itself and locates humankind in it. The Qur’an says: So set thy face to the religion, a man of pure faith – God’s original upon which He originated mankind. There is no changing God’s creation. That is the right religion; but most men know it not (Quran 30:29) God originates humankind within His creation, which He also originated. Humanity is then inescapably subject to God’s immutable laws, as is the rest of creation. Creation cannot be changed: global warming can be seen, in this light, as the Earth’s endeavor to maintain a balance in the face of the human assault against it.
The Mizan is the principle of the middle path. In one of its most eloquent passages the Qur’an describes creation thus: The All-Merciful has taught the Qur’an. He created man and He taught him the explanation. The sun and the moon to a reckoning, and the stars and trees bow themselves;and heaven – He raised it up and set the balance. Transgress not in the balance, and weigh with justice, and skimp not in the balance. And earth – He set it down for all beings, therein fruits and palm trees with sheaths, and grain in the blade, and fragrant herbs. Of which your Lord’s bounties will you and you deny? (Quran 55:1-12)
God has singled out humans and taught them reason – the capacity to understand. All creation has an order and a purpose. If the sun, the moon, the stars, the trees and the rest of creation did not conform to the natural laws – ‘bow themselves’ – it would be impossible for life to function on Earth. So we have a responsibility not to deny the ‘Lord’s bounties’ and actively to recognize the order that is around us, for ourselves, as much as for the rest of creation. Khalifa – or the role of stewardship – is the sacred duty God has ascribed to the human race. There are many verses in the Qur’an that describe human duties and responsibilities, such as the following which aptly summarizes humanity’s role: It is He who has appointed you viceroys in the earth (Quran 6:165) Humankind has a special place in God’s scheme. We are more than friends of the
Names Of A l l a h (SWT) & Mohammad (PBUH) Last edition Al Names wereAl
Badi name of Allah(swt) & -Kareem Mohammad(saw) name.
Earth – we are its guardians. Although we are equal partners with everything else in the natural world we have added responsibilities. We are decidedly not its lords and masters. We may deduce from these four principles that creation, although quite complex and yet finite, only works because each of its component parts does what is expected of it – in the language of the Qur’an, submits to the Creator. Humanity is inextricably part of this pattern. The role of humans – who uniquely have wills of their own and are thus capable of interfering with the pattern of creation – is of guardianship. This added responsibility imposes limits on the behavior and should their lead to conscious recogniti of their own fragilnition ity. They achieve this by sub submitting themselves to the divine law. Unt quite recently the Until hum human race – both rebel and conformists, the bels ign ignorant and the enlightene whether in small ened, self self-governing communities or vast empires, barbar barian tribes or points of hig civilization – funchigh tion tioned unconsciously within natural, unwritten boundaries. It had an intuitive disposition to live within the Fitra, though this was only achieved by conscious recognition of the existence of a superior force, the divine. This was an existential reality, neither idyllic nor utopian. We are clearly no longer functioning within these limits. Two events in 16th and 17th century Europe allowed the human species to break free from the natural patterning of which it had always been part. One was the appearance of the Cartesian world view, which propounded a dualism that separated mind and matter and allowed for the development of science on purely mechanistic lines. Cartesian skepticism brushed aside the accumulated wisdom of the ages and sowed the seeds of doubt. From then on humanity began to worship itself: in Descartes’ own words humans were ‘lords and masters of creation’. They now had
reason on their side to support them in their acts of predation. This period also saw the laying of the foundations of the banking system to which we are all now in thrall. Bankers have, in Islamic terms, sabotaged the Mizan of creation by not only charging interest but by doing so on money which they create endlessly out of nothing. This explosion of artificial wealth provides the illusion of economic dynamism: but in reality it is parasitic. Endless credit devours the finite Fitra. If kept up, this would eventually result in the Earth looking like the surface of the moon. People who lived in the pre-Cartesian dimension, that was before we were told that nature was there to be plundered, were basically no different from us. They had the same positive and negative human attributes, but the results of human profligacy were contained by the natural order of things, which transcended technological and political sophistication and even religious disposition. Excess in the natural order was contained because it was biodegradable. When old civilizations, however opulent, profligate, greedy, or brutal died, the forest just grew over them. They left no pollutants, damaging poisons or nuclear waste. By contrast, and assuming we survive as a species, archaeologists excavating our present rampant civilization are going to have one or two problems… The Qur’anic references are from ‘The Koran’ Interpreted by A. 4th Pakistan Festival 2015 draws thousands to Holland Park, Surrey
On August 16, over ten thousand people came together to celebrate Pakistan’s independence at British Columbia’s fourth Pakistan Festival in Holland Park, Surrey. The event provided a window into Pakistan’s arts and crafts, cuisine, fashion and music. After three year break, the tradition was continued this year by individuals representing Pakistan-Canada Association, Pakistani Youth Council and Pakistani Canadian Women’s Society along with Pakistani businesses and the Pakistani community at large with the great contribution and supervision of Consulate General of Pakistan Vancouver. The title sponsor was the Pak National Foods. Once again, the goal was to strengthen their community and to share their unique culture and heritage with their fellow Canadians. Members of local business community, both Pakistani and non-Pakistani, extended their helping hands by giving money and time to the festival. The presence of vendors from other communities and federal political parties at this year’s festival was also a good sign, showing the increased popularity of the event across communities. Allhumdullillah the motivation and enthusiasm of all hard working volunteers and management committee paid off. Planning for this event began many months prior to the event. Vendors including Gold, Silver, Bronze and Media sponsors played their role well in success of this Festival. Local singers Mr. Mehad Shaftain, Mr. Wasi Sayedain and Mr. Shafi Hussnain entertained the audience with beautiful Pakistani national songs from 2:pm to 3:30. The event was conducted beautifully by Ms. Ayesha Qureshi (Secretary, Pakistan Festival Organising Committee), Raza Mirani and Dr. Huma Mir among others. The official celebration started around 3:30 pm with a procession of special guests and dignitaries led by young kids who raised a big Pakistani Flag throughout the park and to the stage. The program started with Talawat e Quran, then a welcome address given by Pakistani organizing committee, included, Mr. Haroon Khan, Dr. Babra Rana, Mr. Waseem Javed and Dr. Tariq. Next segment was a beautiful and colorful presentation by children on national songs. Many speeches were delivered from honourable dignitaries, including MPs from Liberals and NDP, Federal and Provincial Ministers, councillors, and a visiting Minority Member Parlia-
ment of Pakistan. A sef of paintings was presented by a Pakistani artist to the federal Minister. In the park, over 50 tents surrounded the field along with a massive stage and sound system set up for the variety of entertainment and kids bouncy castle and mini train to follow. Food vendors from the community brought the event to life with the aroma and flavour of traditional Pakistani cuisine. The fascinating cultural dress show organized which provided a flavour of fashion. Ms. Wania Jibran from Alberta, and Mr Asad Khan (from Pakistan) riled up the crowd with Pakistani pop and classical songs, and at the end, the event headliner Pakistani singer Mr. Shehzad Roy took the event to a stratospheric level as he sang familiar tunes . A Special thanks goes to the City of Surrey, RCMP, sponsors and dedicated team of volunteers. Overall it was a wonderful Festival in Surrey. This festival has been a major step for the Pakistani community under the leadership of entire Pakistani Consulate General Team, who continues to make bridges between local Pakistani Associations and many other individuals. The unforgettable hardship and dedication of Mr. Hamza Malik and Mr. Waseem Javed were highly appreciated. Gulberg Cuisine & Restaurant and National Foods provided the food services at lunch for special guests. The Miracle Media would like to congratulate all Pakistan Festival 2015 committee members and highly appreciates their day and night efforts of many weeks. A hearty congratulations and thanks to those also who put up their stalls and the public which showed up in thousands and displayed their strength and expressed love for Pakistan at Independence Day. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, Miracle Media itself was not able to host the display of ”The Journey to Pakistan”, a snapshot of history of Pakistan from 1857- 1947 with pictures and captions which has been part of festivals in past. It was a 4th great collective achievement in a open air space. The organisers took the great challenge to make this event remarkable. Presence of some including another Pakistani Association that usually beings together huge crowds for chand raat melas was not visible. With all said and done, we hope that in future differences can be resolved ahead of time so this event meant to showcase unity can do so in an even better manner.
Also if time and budget allows, the main stage can include a more decorated backdrop representing Pakistani art and culture. While perfection is impossible especially when you are trying to please a crowd of thousands, the Miracle offers its opinion solely with the intention of suggestions when planning the next festival and without any malicious intent. This was a huge feat that was successfully accomplished Alhamdulillah and we, like the thousands of attendees, look forward to next year’s bigger and better Pakistan festival inshAllah.

15 M I D D L E E A S T AI: killings of civilians in Yemen UAE condemns Houthi take conflict may be war crimes over of embassy in Yemen Dhul Qa’dah 6, 1436 August 21, 2015
The fighting in Yemen [BBC backgrounder; JURIST news archive] between Huthi militias and anti-Huthi armed groups has indiscriminately killed and wounded civilians with unlawful airstrikes in civilian neighborhoods, according to a report [materials] issued Tuesday by Amnesty International (AI) [advocacy website]. All parties to the conflict have also engaged in ground crossfire in civilian areas, and AI believes that these attacks may amount to war crimes. AI calls for a an independent UN commission to investigate potential war crimes, and also stresses the need for aid as 80% of the Yemeni population is in need of humanitarian assistance. “The utter failure of all parties to the conflict to minimize the risk to civilians during fighting has had truly devastating consequences for civilians, Donatella Rovera [official Twitter], Senior Crisis Response Advisor at Amnesty International, said. “The gruesome nature of the casualties exposes the true horror and reality of war and the deadly and long-lasting impact of such attacks on civilians. A Saudi Arabia-led military coalition
backs the anti-Huthi groups, who are loyal to exiled President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi and fighting the Huthi army units loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh. The rapidly deteriorating situation in Yemen has sparked significant international concern. In June the UN arranged for a Yemen peace talk [JURIST report] in Geneva, in which the Yemeni president sent a delegation [UN broadcast]. In April Human Rights Watch condemned the targeting [JURIST report] of the Ibn Khaldun Hospital in Yemen by combatants. Also that month, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein urged Yemeni combatants [JURIST report] to report attacks resulting in civilian casualties so that they can be investigated and international human rights law can be upheld. Also in April the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) [advocacy websites] filed a lawsuit [JURIST report] on behalf of US citizens still in Yemen against the US State Department and the Department of Defense for allegedly failing to launch an evacuation plan. The same week, in a unanimous vote, Pakistani lawmakers passed a resolution [JURIST report] to stay out of the conflict in Yemen, despite pleas from Saudi Arabia for aid in the form of warships, aircraft and ground troops. Earlier in April, UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons Chaloka Beyani urged [JURIST report] the international community to prepare itself for the “massive displacement and humanitarian crisis that could come as a result of civilians fleeing the fighting in Yemen, stating that they must prepare for a worst case scenario. • Houthis practicing “law of the jungleâ€? The United Arab Emirates condemned the “occupationâ€? of its embassy in Sanaa by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels, the foreign ministry said in a statement demanding their immediate exit from the compound. The embassy takeover comes as Yemeni loyalists backed by the UAE and Saudi Arabia continue advances against rebels in several southern provinces as well as in third city Taez, seen as a gateway to the rebel-held capital.“This act is further evidence that the group that committed this attack does not show any regard or respect for international conventions and diplomatic norms, as it practices the law of the jungle,â€? said a statement published late Monday by the official WAM news agency. It “condemned in the strongest possible termsâ€? the rebel storming of the embassy, which it said took place on Sunday. The foreign ministry “stressed that the occupation of the embassy and the eviction of its staff will not deter the UAE’s support for the restoration of stability to sisterly Yemen.â€?The six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council, of which the UAE is a member, also released a statement condemning the “cowardly act.â€? The Houthi rebels, allied with troops loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, seized the Yemeni capital in September last year. They consolidated their grip on power in February, prompting an exodus of foreign diplomats from the capital. The UAE shut its embassy in Sanaa and announced it would open another in southern city Aden, which was later the scene of intense fighting between local government supporters and the rebels before loyalists retook the city in mid-July. It is unclear how many employees were at the Sanaa embassy and if it had been operational when it was stormed.
Saudi-owned newspaper Al-Hayat has reported that 1,500 troops, most of them from the UAE, had entered Aden in support of loyalists.Official Emirati media says that six UAE soldiers have so far been killed in incidents linked to the Yemen fighting. The UAE is also part of a Saudi-led coalition that launched an air war against the rebels on March 26. Battle for Hodeida On Tuesday, Coalition warplanes hit the Houthi-controlled Red Sea port of Hodeida, destroying cranes and warehouses in the main entry point for aid supplies to Yemen’s north. Rival factions also battled further south overnight in Yemen’s third city, Taiz, Arab television stations reported, as local militias opposed to the Houthis attempted to consolidate recent advances on it. Loyalist forces, backed by Gulf Arab planes, weapons and training, have been on the offensive since breaking out of Aden last month, claiming a string of gains against the Houthis. The war has killed more than 4,300 people, many of them civilians, and spread disease and hunger in one of the Arab world’s poorest states. Hodeida, lying about 150 km (95 miles) due west of Sanaa, has become a focal point of Yemen’s humanitarian crisis, which the International Committee of the Red Cross said last week was critical. Hon. Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama’s Speech At Dinner With Fiji Muslims In Canada I had the honour of serving as the Master conditions, and ensure equal justice under goodness prevail, democracy and good govof Ceremony at a Gala dinner for the Prime Minister of Fiji, Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama Hosted by the Muslim Business Council, Generosity International Foundation and the Canadian Society of Fiji Muslims on August 8th night. Below is a text copy of the speech that he delivered to the 400 people in attendance.
By;Imaad Ali Mr. Musa Ismail, President of the British Columbia Muslim Association, Distinguished delegations from organizations affiliated to the British Columbia Muslim Association, Ladies and gentlemen, As salam wa leikum and Bula Vinaka, Thank you for this invitation to be with you tonight. As you know, I have been proclaiming three things since I arrived in Canada: • First, that there is a new Fiji that has embraced equality and true democracy as never before. We guarantee freedom and equality for all—in deeds as well as in words. Fiji has repudiated its past of division, racism, ethno-nationalism and sectarianism. • That there is a new spirit and confidence in Fiji. We Fijians believe in ourselves and in each other. We believe we can do anything. Just as we have stood up to do more than our fair share in international peacekeeping and gained respect in international athletics, we are becoming the leading political and economic nation in our part of the world. • And that Fiji is open for business. My government has set about aggressively but methodically to establish conditions to encourage both domestic and foreign investment. And it’s working. Skeptics are becoming believers. Because, ladies and gentlemen, a prosperous society is built on meritocracy. We need to encourage and reward the best efforts and best talents of our people. And meritocracy happens when you have democracy, equality and good governance. It happens when you root out corruption. It happens when government is a partner to business, not an obstacle—when government does its job to establish a level playing field, create the right economic and political
the law. It happens when a government makes education for all its children a priority. And it happens when people are allowed to harvest the fruits of their labors and their ingenuity. Ladies and Gentlemen, To be a Muslim requires commitment and a way of life that fortifies the soul and encourages a positive relationship with one’s fellow human beings. Islam requires its believers to put their faith into action and practice. And carrying out the Five Pillars, Muslims are able to put faith into practice in their everyday lives. Our Muslim community in Fiji has also played a pivotal role together with other Fijians in our country’s achievements. Ladies and Gentlemen, We have a public holiday for the Prophet’s birthday, just as we do for the great commemorations of our other major religions – Christianity and Hinduism. Very few countries do this, and we do so proudly. It underlines the unique nature of Fiji in our own region – a multi-faith nation with a new Constitution that guarantees religious freedom and establishes a secular state, in which all religions are equal. It is also a gesture of respect that each Fijian pays to our fellow citizens of other faiths, because we are one people and one nation, and we know that we have a shared destiny, no matter what beliefs we hold. Religion can actually be a unifying force, a bridge between us all no matter what we believe. That is because a sense of spirituality – a belief in something greater than ourselves – is common to the overwhelming majority of Fijians, no matter what their religious background. Many people in Fiji were alarmed by the provision in our new Constitution that makes Fiji a secular state. They thought that made Fiji non-religious—or even hostile to religion. Their fear was unjustified. Our Constitution simply respects all religions. Where all faiths flourish in harmony, morality and goodness prevail. That is because faith ennobles. And where morality and
ernance will grow. People of faith have an important role to play in the ordering and conduct of our society and government, as individuals and congregations. They give voice to principle and ensure that ethics and morality are a part of our political dialogue. This is essential for any society, but especially for a democratic one. Government must be pragmatic, but it must also uphold principle, stand for fairness, and stay true to the values of its people. Government must therefore not give preference to any faith in the functioning of a secular state. Ladies and gentlemen, Many of you came to Canada because you came to the conclusion that you were not welcome in Fiji. As I have said many times since I have been in Canada, your departure was Fiji’s loss. But I am here to tell you that the doors to your homeland are open once again. The British Columbia Muslim Association is I understand the largest Muslim organization in Canada. You operate schools and Islamic centres all over the province. You support business and the overall community through the Muslim Business Council. And, as the world has come to expect of Muslims, you give. You do charitable works to help the needy and less fortunate, Muslim and non-Muslim, here in British Columbia and abroad. You help make this wonderful province an even better place. It makes me proud to know that Fijian Muslims have played a big part in this effort, even building more than 80 homes for disadvantaged families in Fiji. Ladies and gentlemen, We know that Islam is under stress today, torn by competing visions of the nature of Islam, of its teaching, and of how Muslims are encouraged to act on their faith. You are showing that Islam and democracy are not only compatible, but that they can thrive together. You have shown—and we are showing every day in Fiji—that Muslims living side-by-side with people of other faiths can produce great things.
You have shown that Muslims of goodwill live their faith in a positive way every day, and that the world is better for it. But we must always be vigilant. It is our moral responsibility irrespective of whichever faith we belong to stand up against extremism and fundamentalism. Love, affection and understanding is what we all must profess and practice. Indeed I am told that Prophet Mohammed not only taught and practiced this but also said we must live our lives in and with moderation. Ladies and gentlemen, I told you earlier that I have been proclaiming throughout British Columbia that Fiji is open for business. And while tonight’s dinner is a celebration of your organization and what it means for British Columbia, and not an occasion for a business pitch, I do not want to miss this opportunity to encourage you to see the business opportunities in Fiji. Ladies and Gentlemen we encourage you to join our country that is growing more dynamic and productive every day. Government is the private sector’s partner. We have lowered tax rates and offer a number of attractive investment incentives. Our infrastructure is robust. Our education system is improving. And we have streamlined the process for establishing a business. If you are looking for business opportunity, come to Fiji. If you want a memorable vacation, come to Fiji. If you want to see the dynamism and optimism that democracy and meritocracy can produce in a short time, come to Fiji. It is a place of freedom, tolerance and hope. And you are always welcome. Shukria, VinakaVakalevu, and thank you.

Surrey Board of Trade Announces Trade Mission to Fiji
The Surrey Board of Trade hosted the Rear Admiral (Retired.) The. Honorable Josaia. V. Bainimarama, from Fiji on Friday, August 7, 2015. It was his first visit to Canada since being elected as Prime Minister in September 24, 2014. The lunch hosted over 120 guests where the Honorable Faiyaz Siddiq Koya, Fiji Minister of Industry, Trade, and Tourism, the Honorable Inia Batikoto Seruirat, Minister of Agriculture, Rural, Maritime Development and
National Disaster Management and Bradley Truman, Chair of Investment Fiji and Fiji Tourism were also visiting. “We are also proud to announce the Surrey Board of Trade embarking on a trade mission to Fiji in November 2015, with more details to be announced shortly,” said Anita Huberman, CEO, Surrey Board of Trade. The presentations from both the Prime Minister of Fiji and that of his guests exemplified upon the investment opportunities available in Fiji. Fiji is an island group located in the South Pacific Ocean, about two-thirds of the way from Hawaii to New Zealand. By flight it is about 4 hours from Sydney or Auckland, and about 10 hours from Los Angeles. Trade between North America and Fiji has been picking up recently with Fiji now exporting close to US$184 million worth of goods into
the United States and around US$5 million into Canada. Fiji is actively seeking foreign investment in agricultural and livestock production, dairy, agro-processing, renewable energy, information/communication/technology, manufacturing, infrastructure and various other areas. To attract foreign investment into Fiji, the Fijian government is offering foreign investors a range of investment incentives, including 5-20 years of tax holiday’s for eligible investments in certain industries. To make it more attractive for foreign investment, Investment Fiji has reduced red tape, by creating a one-stop online investment registration platform, without the investor even leaving their home – and approved or given an answer in 5 days! “Surrey stands at a critical juncture where the right decisions, through foreign and domestic investment, that has and will create
economic opportunities for a generation and beyond. This harnesses the ability to bring in international businesses as well as local and national investment opportunities for Surrey. And I think that in Surrey Fijian businesses and Canadian businesses can focus on the strength and innovation within every entrepreneur to take an idea and use it as the foundation for building a business, locally and globally,” said Dr. Greg Thomas, 1st Vice-Chair and Chair of the Surrey Board of Trade’s International Trade Team.

Harper announces new, permanent Home Renovation Tax Credit
SALT & PEPPER Fusion Desi style Chinese Restaurant 13767 72 Ave Surrey ph:778 564 7705 NOW OPEN!
Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced that a re-elected Conservative government would introduce a new, permanent Home Renovation Tax Credit, creating and supporting well-paying jobs and helping Canadians maintain and increase the value of their homes. “For most Canadians, the family home is their biggest financial investment and the place where they raise their children, relax with friends and family, and enjoy their golden years,” said Prime Minister Harper. “A permanent Home Renovation Tax Credit will help make it more affordable for Canadians to ensure their home meets their needs.” The Prime Minister noted that, in addition to reducing the costs of maintaining a home, the Home Renovation Tax Credit will also support local jobs and ensure consumers benefit from professional contractors. “The Home Renovation Tax Credit has been recognized as having helped Canadian consumers avoid the risks of the underground economy[1] , while at the same time reducing their taxes,” said Prime Minister Harper. “We will continue our proven record of helping Canadian families in ways that tangibly improve their lives.”
The Home Renovation Tax Credit, originally established by the Harper Government in 2009 as a temporary measure, was a resounding success. About one in every three households took advantage of this program, saving more than three million Canadians, on average, more than $700 each. It also pumped $4.3 billion into Canada’s economy, creating and supporting well-paying jobs. A re-elected Harper Government will make this tax credit permanent, available each year for substantial home renovation expenses between $1,000 and $5,000. “Our Conservative government has cut taxes and increased benefits for Canadian families, so that Canadians keep more of their hard-earned money,” the Prime Minister said. “We believe that Canadians are best-placed to decide how to invest in the needs and priorities of their families.” “Justin just doesn’t understand how the Home Renovation Tax Credit will help Canadian families and support Canadian jobs, said the Prime Minister, “while Mulcair has voted against every single Conservative tax cut.” “Only a re-elected Conservative government will continue with a low-tax plan to help Canadian families,” said Prime Minister Harper

POLITICS From the pen of the Founding Editor of ‘The Miracle’!!!
Surrey - Newton riding Muslim Voters: Think before you vote 2nd Election Article Nusrat Hussain nh.guidingstar@gmail.com It is a popular belief amongst the Muslims of Canada that the policies of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and the Liberal party are favorable to the Muslim issues internationally, as well as, to the Muslim set of values within Canada. It is also perceived by the Muslim community that the policies of the ruling Conservative party do not favor the international Muslim issues, as well as, to the set of values practiced by the Muslims in Canada. Without engaging into the right or wrong about the perception, I would like to address a political solution. We have to start by realizing the importance of living in our adopted homeland of Canada. None can himself choose the country of his birth. However, the people who have immigrated to Canada from many different countries have chosen to live here. It is therefore imperative upon all to work towards the betterment of this country. Our children and the children of their children are going to live here for good. One might have often heard from some, the cry of returning back to the homeland of birth. My experience reveals that the majority of the people proclaiming a return would never embark the journey. Some of them, who actually went, were back in Canada within a span of two years or less. One can easily establish by the preceding lines
that the Muslims of Canada are not going anywhere; their coming generations will continue to increase making it their homeland by birth. Matters pertaining to the coming generations need serious contemplation as the steps taken today will have enduring effects in the future. Heraclitus, the Greek philosopher who lived from 540-480 B.C. said, “Everything flows.” Everything is in constant flux and changing all the time… “We cannot step twice into the same river. When I step into the river for the second time, neither I nor the river are the same.” Aristotle pointed out that everything in the natural world can be divided into two main categories of ‘living’ and ‘nonliving’ things. According to him, nonliving things can only change through external influence. Only living things have also the capability to change from within. Whether the Political parties are considered living things or non living things; in either case, under the present election scenario, there are two available options of change: Firstly, by casting the vote against the Conservatives and replacing them by the NDP or the Liberal party, thus bringing the change by an external influence as stated by Aristotle. In other words, it would bring the rule of a party that is perceived in harmony with the Muslim needs. Secondly, the change can be introduced by following the method of an internal transformation. That is to say, by sending-in the people who are capable of influencing the Conservative policies by staying within the party and as such triggering to the internal change of Aristotle. I have the privilege of closely knowing all the three contesting candidates in the riding
of Surrey- Newton. I had several close interactions with Mr. Sukh Dhaliwal of the Liberal party while functioning as the chief editor of the Miracle. It would be fair to state in all honesty that Mr. Dhaliwal is a good humble politician, deeply connected with the Muslim community. I served as a communication adviser to Ms. Jinny Sims of NDP for over six months and would not hesitate to mention her as a better political personality, well connected with the Muslim community. However, I have also closely known Mr. Harpreet Singh as a journalist and a friend for fifteen years. In the absence of a Muslim candidate, it is my humble opinion that he is the best person to take the Muslim concerns into the Conservative party that really needs to change its policies from within. Surrey-Newton riding as discussed in my earlier writing is such an interesting riding that can send a candidate in or out of the parliament--- if all the Muslims voters cast their vote to a single party. Unlike the melting pot concept of our neighbors, Canadian strength lies in diversity. Why should there be a political party in Canada carrying a discernment image against any of its communities? In order to have a better future for the coming generations, it is our duty to leave behind such political parties that carry a clear image. It might sound like a long shot, but the first tiny step has to be taken before reaching the peak of the mountain. In my humble opinion,
sending Harpreet Singh to the parliament under the banner of Conservative party and with the clear indication of causality of the Muslim vote could be that first step in the right direction. AFA-LA-TA-TAFAKKAROON ‘WHY DO YOU NOT THINK’ Some of my worthy readers would have a different opinion which, is the beauty of our democratic set up. I will humbly request them all to reason it out by keeping in view the eternal perspective of our coming generations. Let us keep the emotions in decent limits. I would like to thank them all who posted their comments on the first election article published in the last edition. The matter contained in this article is the personal opinion of the founding editor and does not necessarily reflect the official policy of the Miracle. Note: (This is intended to be a series of articles until the Election Day. August 13, – Canadian voters have outlined the election policy planks that they consider absolutely crucial for a party to have a clear plan on and be committed to in order to influence how they will vote, according to a new Ipsos poll conducted on behalf of Global News.
Amid mounting speculation that the election writ will be issued sooner rather than later, a new Ipsos poll conducted for Global News reveals what Canadians want their political parties to be talking about during the campaign—the ones that matter most to them personally and not just those that the political leaders and their campaign teams want to talk about. Of the twenty-nine issues offered (of which they could choose up to five) those that ranked highest are economic or financial in nature.
among both NDP (86%) and Liberal (84%) voters.
What Canadians Want the Party Leaders to Talk About During the Election Campaign: Issues that Matter to them Personally?
A Léger poll published over the weekend by Le Devoir and Le Journal de Montréal had bad news for the Conservatives, placing them in third place nationally for the first time in this campaign. Léger had the NDP leading nationally with 33 per cent of decided voters, followed by the Liberals at 28 per cent and the Conservatives at 27. Though the Tories were well within the margin of error of the second-place Liberals, the optics aren’t good for a party seeking re-election. But the poll also hinted at where the Conservatives might actually be in a strong position to make gains: Quebec. Poll Tracker: Follow the trends and latest seat projections
Nowhere else in Canada are the Conservatives poised to win a greater number of seats than they took in 2011, according to the latest numbers from the CBC Poll Tracker. The Poll Tracker’s polling average currently awards the Tories 29.3 per cent of the vote and between 99 and 139 seats nationally, compared to 32.3 per cent and 110 to 139 seats for the first-place NDP. The Liberals, with 27.3 per cent support and a projected range of 77 to 110 seats, have a better chance of finishing second in the seat count than at any time since April. But Conservative prospects for growth in Quebec are looking positive. After winning five seats there in 2011, the Tories are on track to win between seven and 10, considering
It’s a tight three-way race across the country, but the surging NDP is still struggling where it counts most, in Ontario. A new Nanos Research poll suggests Thomas Mulcair’s party is running behind in Canada’s most populous province.

Support levels in the province have been holding generally stable for the Liberals and NDP over the last two months, with the Bloc recently slumping from a mini-surge after Gilles Duceppe announced his return to federal politics. For the Conservatives, their latest numbers are an improvement over where they were in June, though they are still below the 21 per cent they were averaging as recently as April.

Help Your Child Help Your Child Prepare for Back to School When summer winds down, it’s time to get ready for a new school year. Buying notebooks and scoping out sales is the easy part. There are less tangible things you can do as well. Here are 9 ways you can help your child -- and yourself -- get ready to go back to school. 1. Re-Establish School Routines Use the last few weeks of summer to get into a school-day rhythm. “Have your child practice getting up and getting dressed at the same time every morning,” suggests school psychologist Kelly Vaillancourt, MA, CAS. Start eating breakfast, lunch, and snacks around the times your child will eat when school is in session. It’s also important to get your child used to leaving the house in the morning, so plan morning activities outside the house in the week or two before school. That can be a challenge for working parents, says Vaillancourt, who is the director of government relations for the National Association of School Psychologists. But when the school rush comes, hustling your child out the door will be less painful if she has broken summer habits like relaxing in her PJs after breakfast. 2. Nurture Independence Once the classroom door shuts, your child will need to manage a lot of things on his own. Get him ready for independence by talking ahead of time about responsibilities he’s old enough to shoulder. This might include organizing his school materials, writing down assignments, and bringing home homework, says Nicole Pfleger, school counselor at Nickajack Elementary School in Smyrna, GA. Even if your child is young, you can instill skills that will build confidence and independence at school. Have your young child prac-

tice writing her name and tying her own shoes. “The transition to school will be easier for everyone if your child can manage basic needs without relying on an adult,” Pfleger says. 3. Create a Launch Pad “Parents and teachers should do whatever they can to facilitate a child being responsible,” says Pfleger, who was named School Counselor of the Year by the American School Counselor Association in 2012. At home, you can designate a spot where school things like backpacks and lunch boxes always go to avoid last-minute scrambles in the morning. You might also have your child make a list of things to bring to school and post it by the
front door. 4. Set Up a Time and Place for Homework Head off daily battles by making homework part of your child’s everyday routine. Establish a time and a place for studying at home. “Even if it’s the kitchen table, it really helps if kids know that’s where they sit down and do homework, and that it happens at the same time every day,” says Pfleger. As much as
Life Transitions Shabnam Khan – Family Counsellor Life is a journey filled with lessons, hardships, heartaches, joys, celebrations and special moments that will ultimately lead us to our destination, our purpose in life. The road will not always be smooth; in fact, throughout our travels, we will encounter many challenges. Some of these challenges will test our courage, strengths, weaknesses, and faith. Along the way, we may stumble upon obstacles that will come between the paths that we are destined to take. In order to follow the right path, we must overcome these obstacles. Sometimes these obstacles are really blessings in disguise, only we don’t realize that at the time. Along our journey we will be confronted with many situations, some will be filled with joy, and some will be filled with heartache. How we react to what we are faced with determines what kind of outcome the rest of our journey through life will be like. When things don’t always go our way, we have two choices in dealing with the situations. We can focus on the fact that things didn’t go how we had hoped they would and let life pass us by, or two, we can make the best out of the situation and know that these are only temporary setbacks and find the lessons that are to be learned. Time stops for no one, and if we allow ourselves to focus on the negative we might miss out on some really amazing things that life has to offer. We can’t go back to the past, we can only take the lessons that we have learned and the experiences that we have gained from it and move on. It is because of the heartaches, as well as the hardships, that in the end help to make us a stronger person.
The people that we meet on our journey, are people that we are destined to meet. Everybody comes into our lives for some reason or another and we don’t always know their purpose until it is too late. They all play some kind of role. Some may stay for a lifetime; others may only stay for a short while. It is often the people who stay for only a short time that ends up making a lasting impression not only in our lives, but in our hearts as well. Although we may not realize it at the time, they will make a difference and change our lives in a way we never could imagine. To think that one person can have such a profound effect on your life forever is truly a blessing. It is because of these encounters that we learn some of life’s best lessons and sometimes we even learn a little bit about ourselves. People will come and go into our lives quickly, but sometimes we are lucky to meet that one special person that will stay in our hearts forever no matter what. Even though we may not always end up being with that person and they may not always stay in our life for as long as we like. The lessons that we have learned from them and the experiences that we have gained from meeting that person, will stay with us forever. Memories are priceless treasures that we can cherish forever in our hearts. shabnam@skcounselling.ca
possible, plan to make yourself available during homework time, especially with younger kids. You might be reading the paper or cooking dinner, but be around to check in on your child’s progress. 5. After-School Plans School gets out before most working parents get home, so it’s important to figure out where your children will go, or who will be at home, in the afternoons. You might find an after-school program through the school itself, a local YMCA, or a Boys and Girls Club. If possible, try to arrange your schedule so you can be there when your child gets home during those first few days of school. It may help your child adjust to the new schedule and teachers. 6. Make a SickDay Game Plan Working parents also know the trials and tribulations of getting a call from the school nurse when they can’t get away from the office. “Most of our parents, because of the economy, are working,” says Pfleger. Before school begins, line up a trusted babysitter or group of parents that can pinch hit for each other when children get sick. And make sure you know the school’s policy. You may have to sign forms ahead of time listing people who have your permission to pick up your child. 7. Attend Orientations to Meet and Greet Schools typically hold orientation and in-
formation sessions before the start of each academic year. These are good opportunities for you to meet the key players: your child’s teachers, school counselors, the principle, and most importantly, front desk staff. “The secretaries know everything and are the first people children see when they arrive at school every day,” says Vaillancourt. 8. Talk to the Teachers Of course, teachers are the reason your child is there. When you talk to your child’s teachers, ask about their approach to homework. Some teachers assign homework so kids can practice new skills while others focus on the accuracy of the assignments they turn in. Ask for the dates of tests and large assignments so you can help your child plan accordingly. For instance, if you know a big test is coming up on Friday morning, you will know to keep things simple on Thursday evening. 9. Make it a Family Affair Together, you and your child can plan for success in school. For instance, sit down with your child to create a routine chart. Ask your child what she wants to do first when she first gets home from school: play outside or do homework? Her answers go on the chart. “The more kids have ownership in creating a routine for themselves and setting expectations, the more likely they are to follow it,” says Vaillancourt. Source: WebMed
Happy Relationship By Asma Shams (Mortgage Broker) Surrey This independence is not from relationship … this is for freedom from hurt , misunderstanding, selfishness, self-centeredness…. Every country has its independence day. All celebrate it with lots of joy, happiness and remember the struggle, hard work and sacrifices of the people. After all the celebrations what still remains is struggle keeping the value of freedom and purpose of freedom. In our family, struggle to keep harmony, peace and understanding goes on forever. It is not easy and pleasant all the time. Sometimes it becomes very rough and tough. That is life. When we understand and accept that this journey from birth to death is colorful, full of happiness and sorrow rights and duties, tolerance, understanding….list is endless. When we accept that and decide to work on it, think and plan and take necessary steps towards it. Life starts becoming meaningful, easy and happy. Recently, one of our friends told us about an incident. A girl was talking with her mother about something and she said, “Shut up” and few more disrespectful words to her mother. Mother was shocked and hurt badly. In another incident, son was talking to his father, “What have you done for me so far and…..”
This is conflict of understanding, sense of right and wrong. No parent teaches disobedience and such less virtues to their children and no child is his or her right frame of mind wants to disrespect the parents. Still this happens. What??? Why??? How??? When it started??? To be continued…..

YOUTH/PARENTS
Today’s youth:
Three-generation survey reveals sharp decline in teenage mental health The mental health of teenagers has sharply declined in the last 25 years and the chances that 15-year-olds will have behavioural problems such as lying, stealing and being disobedient, have more than doubled. The rate of emotional problems such as anxiety and depression has increased by 70% among adolescents, according to the biggest time trend study conducted in Britain. Boys are more likely to exhibit behavioural problems and girls are more likely to suffer emotional problems. The rate is higher for emotional problems, now running at one in five of 15-year-old girls. The study found no increase in aggressive behaviour, such as fighting and bullying, and no increase in rates of hyperactivity. The study looked at three generations of 15-year-olds, in 1974, 1986 and 1999. Behavioural problems increased over the whole period, while emotional problems were stable until 1986 and have subsequently shot up. The increases cannot be explained by the rise in divorce and single parenthood, argues the team of researchers, because they found compara-
ble increases in all types of families, although there is a higher rate of adolescent mental health problems in single-parent families. Nor can growing inequality over the 25 years explain the rise in problem teenagers because rates of increase were comparable in all social classes. There was no difference between white and ethnic minority teenagers. The research found that the rising rate of 15-year-olds with behavioural problems correlated to their increased chances of experiencing a range of poor outcomes as adults, such as homelessness, being sacked, dependency on benefits and poor mental and physical health. This indicated that the rise in problems cannot be attributed to a greater likelihood to report them. The deterioration of adolescents’ mental health in Britain is in contrast to the findings of research in the US which showed that a comparable decline tailed off in the 90s, while in Holland, there was no decline at all. The study, Time Trends in Adolescent Mental Health, to be published in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry in November, is the first to provide evidence in support of the increasing concern from parents and teachers
about the welfare of teenagers. The research conducted by a team from the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London, and the University of Manchester, provides specific evidence for Britain which is in line with the World Health Organisation’s warning last year that the fastest-growing mental health problem in the world, and particularly in the developed world, was among adolescents. “We are doing something peculiarly unhelpful for adolescent mental health in Britain,” said Sharon Witherspoon, deputy director of the Nuffield Foundation which funded the research. “This is not a trend which is being driven by a small number of kids who are getting worse. It is not a small tail pulling down the average but a more widespread malaise.” “The route people take to adulthood has become much more difficult with the pressure on for qualifications,” said John Coleman, director of the Trust for the Study of Adolescence. “When young people are faced with all these choices, they say they have to ‘make it up as they go along’.” The study was not focused on the most serious cases such as suicide and self-harm where other recent studies have shown significant increases, but the more general experience of adolescents which is less likely to reach the point of needing professional intervention. The findings are likely to fuel debates about how we are raising our children and whether they reflect parenting in early years or are linked to Britain’s secondary education system with its emphasis on academic achievement, and poor record of out of school activities. A recent survey showed that discipline in secondary schools comes ahead of funding as parents’ greatest concern. Next month, the Tomlinson report into 14-19 year-old education and training - commis-
sioned by the Department for Education and Skills - is due to be published; a green paper on youth services is also expected this autumn. The study did not look into possible causes, which are to be the subject of further research. Also subject to further research is whether there has been a comparable rise in emotional and behavioural disorders among younger age groups or whether this is a specific problem in adolescence. Fall Allergies
It’s fall, and the blooms of summer have faded. So how come you’re stillsneezing? Fall allergy triggers are different, but they can cause just as many symptoms as you have in spring and summer.
What Causes Fall Allergies? Ragweed is the biggest allergy trigger in the fall. Though the weed usually starts releasing pollen with cool nights and warm days in August, it can last into September and October. About three-quarters of people who are allergic to spring plants are also allergic to ragweed. Ragweed pollen loves to get around. Even if it doesn’t grow where you live, it can still travel for hundreds of miles on the wind. For some people who are allergic to ragweed, foods like bananas, melon, zucchini, and certain other fruits and vegetables can also cause symptoms. Mold is another fall trigger. You may think of mold growing in your basement or bathroom – damp areas in the house – but mold spores also love wet spots outside. Piles of damp leaves are ideal breeding grounds for
mold. Don’t forget dust mites. While they are common during the humid summer months, they can get stirred into the air the first time you turn on your heat in the fall. Dust mites can trigger sneezes, wheezes, and runny noses. Going back to school can also trigger allergies in kids because mold anddust mites are common in schools.
What Are the Symptoms? •Runny nose •Watery eyes
•Sneezing •Coughing •Itchy eyes and nose •Dark circles under the eyes How Are Fall Allergies Diagnosed? Your doctor or allergist can help find out exactly what’s causing your watery, itchy eyes and runny nose. He’ll talk to you about your medical history and symptoms, and may recommend a skin test. With a skin test, the doctor places a tiny amount of the allergen on your skin -- usually on your back or forearm -- and then pricks or scratches the skin underneath. If you’re allergic to it, you’ll get a small, raised bump that itches like a mosquito bite. How Can I Treat My Allergies? There are many medications you can use: •Steroid nasal sprays – reduce inflammation in your nose •Antihistamines – help stop sneezing, sniffling, and itching •Decongestants – help relieve stuffiness and dry up the mucus in of your nose •Antihistamine eye drops •Immunotherapy in the form of allergy shots or oral tablets or drops You can buy some allergy medications
without a prescription, but it’s a good idea to talk to your doctor to make sure you choose the right one. Decongestant nasal sprays, for example, should only be used for three days. If you use them longer, you may actually get more congested. And if you have high blood pressure, some allergy drugs may not be right for you. Tips to Manage Symptoms: •Stay indoors with the doors and windows closed when pollen is at its peak (usually in the late morning or midday). Check pollen counts in your area. •Before you turn on your heat for the first time, clean your heating vents and change the filter. Bits of mold and other allergens can get trapped in the vents over the summer and will fill the air as soon as you start the furnace. •Use a HEPA filter in your heating system to remove pollen, mold, and other particles from the air. •Use a dehumidifier if you need to, to keep your air at between 35% and 50% humidity. •Wear a mask when you rake leaves so you don’t breathe in mold spores. 24 PAKISTAN Allama Mashriqi, His Family & the Khaksars Paid the Price for Freedom Dhul Qa’dah 6, 1436 August 21, 2015
On Mashriqi’s 52nd Death Anniversary and the Anniversary of the End of British Rule in the Sub-continent By Nasim Yousaf History has shown that freedom comes at a steep cost to those who fight to liberate a nation from oppression. Allama Mashriqi, his family, and the Khaksars paid the price for the freedom of the subcontinent through their tremendous sacrifices for the nation. In 1930, Allama Mashriqi, a legendary freedom fighter, founded the Khaksar Tehrik to liberate the subcontinent (now comprised of Bangladesh, India and Pakistan) from the clutches of foreign rule. The Tehrik was a private army based on the principles of social service, brotherhood, and discipline. The movement’s message of justice, equality and freedom resonated with the masses and it quickly spread across India. By 1940, the Tehrik was the most powerful and disciplined private army in all the region and was comprised of millions of members. Through demonstrations, marches, camps, pamphlets, speeches, Khaksar newspapers (e.g.“Al-Islah”), and other activities, the Khaksars had mobilized the masses for freedom. Recognizing the Tehrik’s growing power and influence, the British Government desperately tried to crush the movement from the very beginning. In 1932, they barred Mashriqi from entering the North West Frontier Province (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) - the ban continued until 1937. And later, in 1940, when Mashriqi was on the verge of ending British rule, police killed many Khaksars in a brutal assault (on March 19, 1940) and arrested Mashriqi and his elder sons. Authorities also raided Mashriqi’s house and cruelly injured Mashriqi’s son Ehsanullah Khan Aslam. The news of Mashriqi’s arrest and the massacre of the Khaksars spread worldwide and was reported on the radio and in print media (in India, Australia, Germany, UK, USA, and other international outlets). The massacre of Khaksars on March 19 was a black day and a turning point in the history of India. The horrific actions of the Government created tremendous public outrage and further compelled the masses to drive for freedom; the Khaksars and their followers were now even more determined to attain independence for the nation. Seeing the movement as a grave threat to their rule, the British further intensified their efforts against Mashriqi and the Khaksars. Planning meetings were held by the British Government to try to preserve their rule and the Government launched massive efforts to crush the Khaksar Movement. They banned the Khaksar Tehrik (first in Punjab and later in the entire India) and its “Al-Islah” newspaper. Police raided Khaksar offices across
India and seized or impounded Khaksar materials. Many seized Khaksar materials were also sent to the Viceroy of India and other high-level British officials in India and England. Thousands of Khaksars and Mashriqi’s sympathizers were arrested, injured, or killed and several were sentenced to life imprisonment. The Khaksars, whether in jail or not, were persecuted and their families harassed. Many were falsely accused – without any proof of violent activity – of being terrorists or “fifth columnists.” All along, the Secretary of State and Viceroy of India were actively involved. The Viceroy held a meeting with the British Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army and other British high-ups and discussed ways to crush the Khaksar Tehrik. The authorities made desperate efforts to try to implicate and defame Mashriqi and his organization; even though the Government found no credible evidence against him, Mashriqi was kept imprisoned without a court trial for a long period of time, as the British knew that no other organization posed a greater danger to their rule in India. Beyond their actions against the Khaksar
livered to me on the 11th July-threatening the life of my ladies at Ichhra!...In the distress that I have felt over the threat and the insult, also in the helplessness to which I have been reduced, I have no alternative but to put this also to the credit of the Government who have taken possession of my body most unjustly and have reduced me to this state.” Despite the atrocities against him, Mashriqi remained resolute and ultimately decided to begin a fast unto death while in prison to continue the push for freedom and obtain his and the Khaksars’ release. When he was on the verge of death, the Government finally released him (although they still restricted his movements). Ultimately, in spite of the Government’s best efforts, they could not stop Mashriqi and the Khaksars’ determination to bring freedom. The Khaksar resistance and anti-imperialist activities pushed the Government to the
organization, the British also tried to attack Mashriqi on a personal level. Mashriqi was kept in solitary confinement at Vellore Central Jail. The Government confiscated his accounts and property. For this reason, Mashriqi’s son (Ehsanullah Khan Aslam), who was injured during the police raid on March 19th, was not able to obtain proper medical treatment; he eventually succumbed to his injuries and died on May 31, 1940. He was buried in Lahore; Mashriqi was not allowed to be with his family during this time nor to take a final glimpse of his son. Meanwhile, other members of his family and followers were harassed or tortured. The lives of his young daughters (Hameedhah, Mehmoodah, and Masuda, who were from his first wife, Wilayat Begum) and wives were threatened. Mashriqi wrote: “The most recent and the crowning addition to the above tyrannies is an anonymous letter posted from clearing Charing Cross Post Office Lahore on the 4th July 1941-de-
point where they had no choice but to leave the sub-continent. The sub-continent thus obtained its independence and Pakistan and India emerged on the world map (for a detailed account, read the author’s published works). Mashriqi continued fighting for justice for many years following independence. He died in Mayo Hospital in Lahore on August 27, 1963. With his death, a vital chapter of South Asian history was closed. News of his death spread like wildfire; special bulletins by major newspapers were published and distributed in the streets of Pakistan. The day after his death, nearly all the newspapers in the country (including Dawn, Pakistan Times, Jang, Nawa-i-Waqt, Kohistan, Imroze, Mashriq, The Eastern Times, and others) featured the news in front-page headlines. International media also reported of Mashriqi’s death. Mashriqi’s millions of followers and supporters around the world were grief-stricken. Condolence messages

Gul, while serving as ISI chief, provided assistance to the Afghan groups fighting the Soviet forces in cooperation with US’ Central Intelligence Agency. Time Magazine reported that the former DG ISI had an extensive role in providing support to Kashmiri nationalist groups that are battling India. Source: ARY News
poured in from prominent leaders, including the President of Pakistan (Ayub Khan), and from supporters all over the globe. Airplanes, buses, cars, and trucks full of people arrived in Lahore to attend Mashriqi’s funeral procession, which was over a mile-long and included more than 100,000 people. All along the route, people showered Mashriqi’s body with flowers. Many wept and some even fainted when they caught a glimpse of the departed leader. Mashriqi was accorded a military-style burial by the Khaksars, who wrapped his body in the Khaksar Tehrik’s flag, gave him a guard of honor, and honored him with a 101-gun salute (Note: the author, Nasim Yousaf, was in attendance at the funeral and has provided a detailed account in his book entitled “Allama Mashriqi & Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan: Two Legends of Pakistan.” Also visit the following Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/AllamaMashriqi.1). Mashriqi, his family, and the Khaksars paid a very heavy price for the freedom of the people of the sub-continent. They endured all atrocities – whether arrests, bans, threats, restrictions, torture, attacks, etc. – to achieve their objective. Throughout his long and illustrious career, Mashriqi was arrested approximately six times and his movements were restricted at least twice. He was also attacked a number of times and stabbed in 1947; he survived all the attacks. Mashriqi’s determination to liberate the people of India, no matter what the personal cost, is inspirational. It is important to remember this hero, his family, and the Khaksars for their sacrifices; but more importantly, their struggle provides an opportunity for the people of the subcontinent to learn the true cost of freedom. Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India should create research institutes to publish materials, facilitate research, and develop an official, academic biography and documentary or film on Allama Mashriqi and the Khaksar Movement. A nation only prospers when it honors its heroes and remembers those who fought for its freedom. The author is Allama Mashriqi’s grandson. 25 SPORTS Amir, Asif, Butt free to play all cricket from September 2 Dhul Qa’dah 6, 1436 August 21, 2015
The sanctions against Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt will expire on September 1, the ICC has confirmed. That means the trio, who were banned for their role in spot-fixing on Pakistan’s tour to England in 2010, can return to competitive cricket - including international cricket from September 2. Butt, Asif and Amir were banned for 10 (five years suspended), seven (two years suspended) and five years respectively, after an ICC tribunal found them guilty of spot-fixing in a case stemming from the 2010 Lord’s Test. “I welcome the ICC’s decision and thank everyone who supported me throughout my bad time,” Butt told ESPNcricinfo. “It’s like a new lifeline for me. It’s only me who can understand what this means for me. I can’t explain how excited I am about regaining my bread and butter. I have suffered enough and I am a changed
man now and have learnt my lesson. I will continue to play my cricket with good spirit.” Butt will now turn out for the Lahore Blues in the upcoming domestic T20 cup, where Blues will play the qualifying round. The three players, as well as their agent Mazhar Majeed, were also convicted for their wrongdoings in a London court. They were charged with conspiracy to accept corrupt payments, and conspiracy to cheat with regard to the Lord’s Test, when three pre-determined noballs were bowled - two by Amir and one by Asif - orchestrated by Butt and arranged by Majeed. While Amir and Majeed had pleaded guilty before the trial began, Butt and Asif denied the charges. Butt was sentenced to two years and six months in prison, Asif got one year and Amir, six months. Butt was released seven months into his jail sentence, in June 2012, under the UK government’s
early release scheme for foreign nationals. Asif and Amir served half their sentences, in keeping with the court’s directive - that they serve half their sentence in custody and then be released on licence, with conditions which, if broken, would see them back in detention for the remainder of their term. In January this year, with the backing of the PCB, Amir was allowed to return to domestic cricket ahead of schedule by the ICC. Explaining the concession, the ICC had said then: “The ACSU Chairman [Ronnie Flanagan] had exercised the powers vested in him under Article 6.8 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code after he was satisfied that Amir had cooperated with the ACSU by fully disclosing
his part in the matters that led to his disqualification, admitting his guilt, showing remorse and cooperating with the Unit’s ongoing investigations and by recording messages for the ACSU education sessions.” Source: Cricinfo
‘Deflategate’ judge drills NFL with tough questions
Tom Brady might have reason to practice more intensely after a federal judge made clear Wednesday that the NFL’s four-game suspension of the New England Patriots quarterback over “Deflategate” is in jeopardy. U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman, who’s been asked by NFL Players Association to void the suspension, warned a league lawyer during oral arguments that there was precedent for judges to toss out penalties issued by arbitrators in the scandal over underinflated footballs. Berman continued to push for a settlement in the dispute -- a potential result he called “rational and logical.” But throughout the hearing, he also cited several weaknesses in the way the NFL handled the controversy that could become the basis for handing a victory to Brady and his union. After the hearing, Berman met behind closed doors with both sides for more than an hour
before the lawyers left court, saying the judge asked them not to discuss the negotiations publicly. If there is no deal, the Manhattan judge has said he hopes to rule by Sept. 4, six days before the Patriots host the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL’s season-opening game. Neither Brady nor NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was in court Wednesday. Brady returned to Patriots practice after participating in negotiations along with Goodell and lawyers on both sides a day earlier. The league announced in May that it was suspending Brady over allegations he conspired with two Patriots equipment employees to deflate footballs below what league rules allow to give him a competitive edge in New England’s victory over the Indianapolis Colts in January’s AFC championship game. Goodell, who by contract can act as an arbitrator for labour disputes, upheld the suspension,
touching off the legal battle. During more than two hours of arguments by attorneys, the judge noted other arbitration decisions have been rejected when a key witness was not allowed to testify as he asked why NFL Executive Vice-President Jeff Pash -- who worked on the NFL investigation -- could not be questioned by union lawyers during the suspension’s appeal. Arbitration proceedings, while more relaxed than court proceedings, are still required to follow due process rules to ensure fairness, Berman said. He also suggested that the league’s finding that Brady was generally aware that game balls were being deflated was too vague, noting that any reference to the Jan. 18 game against the Colts was “conspicuously absent” in a report on an NFL investigation that the league used as a basis for the suspension. Finally, Berman said he could not understand how
the commissioner opted to keep a four-game suspension over a fine or a lesser penalty seen in other cases of equipment tampering. In one exchange, he questioned Goodell’s defence of the Brady punishment on the grounds that it was comparable to penalties on players caught using performance enhancing drugs. “How is that equal to steroid use?” he asked of the deflation allegations. “They both go to the integrity of the game,” responded NFL lawyer Daniel Nash. “Well, everything goes to the integrity of the game,” the judge shot back. It was the second week in a row the judge seemed to learn harder on the NFL in open court, though he again cautioned that he had not yet made up his mind which side would win. Another hearing was scheduled for Aug. 31. Both Brady and Goodell have been ordered to attend. Source: CTV News OPEN
