Justin Trudeau to move forward with ambitious agenda by year’s end An incoming Liberal majority government will move forward with an ambitious agenda and open Parliament with a speech from the throne before the end of the year, CBC News has learned. The new agenda will follow next week’s swearing in of a new Liberal cabinet, marking the official transition of power after nearly a decade of Conservative Party rule. The Liberal government’s general program for the parliamentary session that will follow is expected to include proposed legislation to lower taxes on the middle class and a plan to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees, a senior Liberal source told CBC News. That will happen after Trudeau returns from a busy travel schedule of international events including the Group of 20 summit in Turkey, the AsiaPacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) summit in the Philippines and the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris. Before the Paris meeting he is also expected to attend the Commonwealth meeting in Malta, where he would meet the Queen, whom he first met

Strategic Voting For Positive Change
The outgoing regime faced its ouster due to a number of unpleasant reasons including dictatorial attitude of Mr. Steven Harper, his antiMuslim fear mongering, negative attack-adds, passing laws controversially, unfavourable foreign policy and mismanagement are only a few among others. As the strategic voting was the answer, propaganda machinery did enough for opinion-building to achieve the desired results in recent federal elections. Obviously, the people were upset with the sitting government; they wanted a positive change. The moments were ripe for the vested interests to exploit the situation for their own purpose, so the target was achieved democratically. A landslide victory for the Liberals means good news for positive change. Hopefully, our new leader will go for unity rather than division. On November 4, the Liberals will be returning to the House of Commons with a majority government. They have a long list of promises and priorities based on their 88-page plan. Intention is to boost up support for post-secondary students, improve the environment and decrease the tax burden for middle-class families. The Canada child benefit is replacing the universal child care benefit. The Liberal promise would provide a yearly tax free benefit of up to $6,400 for every child of up to 5 years of age and up to $5,400 for each child age 6 to 17. How much a family would receive under the Liberal plan would depend on income, with the monthly payments declining as family income rises. Poor family will benefit from this non taxable program. Other priorities: The Liberal platform has some immediate steps to be taken upon forming government;
they include calling an inquiry into the missing and the murdered indigenous women, lifting the 2 percent cap on increases to “First Nationseducation-funding” and establishing a new financial relationship with First Nations. They also include launching a new competition to replace the CF-18 fighter jet and scraping the F-35 fighter program. Hiring of additional mental health professionals to support veterans is part of priority. Reinstating the long-form census and implementing imported gun-marking legislation will be carried out. Review of environmental assessment processes will begin. Number of immigration applications allowed for parents and grand-parents will be doubled. Visa requirement for Mexican travel to Canada will be lifted. Spousal sponsorship is to be made easier: Cunningly, the outgoing prime minister Mr. Harper kept himself away from the Muslim world in general and Pakistan in particular. With regard to family sponsorship matters, cases were delayed for long time to a point where either the marriage came to an end, or one spouse had to leave Canada for residing with the other spouse in Pakistan. Rejecting fake marriage case is appreciable, yet it amounts to gross negligence and inefficiency if a visa officer has difficulty accepting a genuine marriage despite the available solid proof (consummated marriage) with birth of a baby to the wedlock supported by official documents including Marriage certificate. New government is introducing a faster track: From now onward, spouses immigrating to Canada shall get immediate permanent residency. There will be surely expeditious disposal of spousal cases without wait-
time, and the rejected cases may be reviewed on faster track hopefully. Beauty of Diversity: According to local news media 22 out of 44 South Asians made their way to the House of Commons including two Pakistanis born Canadians. Congratulations to 15 Indians who have been elected as MPs. Congratulations to 10 Muslims who became MPs; the number is great for the first time in the history of Canada. They include: Somali Canadian MP Ahmed Hussen, Canada’s first Iranian Canadian MP Majid Jowhari, and Canada’s first Afghan Canadian MP Maryam Monsef. The majority of Muslim Canadians who will be coming to Parliament are newcomers to politics with the exception of Omar Alghabra and Yasmin Ratansi who were previously Liberal MPs. Pakistani Canadian Iqra Khalid, MP for Mississauga-Erin Mills: Iqra Khalid’s Website Salma Zahid, MP for Scarborough Centre: Zahid’s Website Thought provoking: Pakistani Canadians are almost unrepresented in Parliament: They include Pakistani landed immigrants, naturalised Canadians of Pakistani origin and Canadians born to parents of Pakistani origin. Unfortunately, Mr. Tariq Azeem, High Commissioner of Pakistan was asked about the number of Pakistanis in Canada - he could not answer reliably; conveniently he quoted the figure of 155,310 based on 2011 census. “The Canadian Magazine of Immigration” posted on 02/02/2015 as below: In 2011, the vast majority of Pakistani immigrants (73%) resided in Ontario; most of them (97,065) lived in the Greater Toronto Area. In 2011, 12% of Pakistani immigrants resided in Alberta, 6% in Quebec and
5% in British Columbia. Though, it’s disappointing to note that the actual number of Pakistanis is not available, yet it’s estimated from various sources to be around 300,000. Irony is Pakistanis, compared with other South Asians, still lag behind when it comes to have direct voice in the parliament. Painfully, there is no noticeable representation in the parliament of Canadians of Pakistani origin: How would only 2 women in 338 Member-Parliament be able to voice Pakistani community’s concerns? This suggests there is a long way to go yet before the Pakistani community has reasonable presence in the parliament. Even the Senate has only one Pakistani lady. Controversial Legislation: The biased and discriminatory laws (C51 and C24) are expected to be amended or repealed. Furthermore, as per BBC and other news channels, Trudeau believes in ending airstrike over Iraq, having closer ties with Obama and accepting 25000 refugees from the troubled Syria. Trudeau looks persuaded to honor Mr. Chretien’s advice to go for better relations with Iran and Russia, and work with the UN for revival of Canada’s peace keeping role. All sounds good! It’s a golden chance for Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Shareef to invite Prime Minister-elect Mr. Justin Trudeau to have a State visit in order to refresh mutual relationship to generate trade and investment opportunities. What’s our contribution in Candian Politics! By: Hamza, Kamal (a concerned high school student) I’m currently a high school student that lives in the riding of Surrey-Newton. I’ve been enamored by politics of all levels for the past couple of years and am baffled by the last two editorials you have published in the Miracle newspaper. Recently you wrote an editorial urging Muslim Canadians to vote Conservative since they are the party that object most to Muslims. You went on to say that since the NDP and the Liberals are already receptive of Muslim issues, voting for them is useless. I can understand your train of thought since voting is the best vehicle to change a politicians mind. However, I disagree that voting Conservative will change the lives of Muslim Canadians for the better. By voting Conservative this election, Muslims would give Stephen Harper and his party the mandate to once again run a term on xenophobic and islamophobic policies. Harper has run an abhorrent campaign based on division and islamophobia. Not only has the Muslims community taken note of this, but prominent journalists such as the right of center Andrew Coyne, have all written on the disgusting politics at play. By voting Conservative this election, you only
I urge you to take a look at the stances of the Conservative party and whether they match with the ideals pursued by the overall Muslim community. I also urge you to make clear in your editorials what it means to vote in a MP in regards to the independence they possess. Thanks for reading. Note: Thanks Mr. Hamza to send this letter to the Editor in-chief Miracle. For your kind informa-
tion, the Miracle’s editorial is always on page 2 by Miracle’s editor,. TThe article you refrenced was not editorial but an article wrieetn by Mr Nusrat Hussain who was founder of Miracle.Mr Nusrat Hussain clearly mentioned in his all political articles that “The matter contained in this article is the personal opinion of the founding editor and does not necessarily reflect the official position of the Miracle.”
Politics of Fear and Division. By: Intikhab Ahmed Surrey All the parties been have been given more than enough time to face voters. The recent federal election campaign in Canadian history was the longest, Conservative Party of Canada started election campaign on a non-issues called “Niqab “ this issue have fired back to the governing Conservative Party. Liberals and NDP supported the Niqab issue, and opposed the controversial bills C24 & C51.Liberals were able to win public support and won the election. NDP was doing well but somehow, NDP could not win the voters confidence, the NDP veered to the right, where as they should have moved further to the left. The majority of the voters rejected these bills, if Conservative part would have won the elections then they would have created “Two Tear “system among Canadian citizens. The Canadian values are key ingredients to the multicultural fabric, the public have rejected politics of fear and division. To keep multicultural fabric stronger

This past week you also wrote an editorial that endorsed Harpreet Singh as the MP of Surrey Newton. You made a point that Harpreet Singh is an honest man and one deserving of being my MP. You also make a point in the piece that you are happy that he did not tow the party line and abstain from the recent Muslim organized debates. It is saddening that even showing up to the debate is considered a high light for Conservative candidates. The other candidates have embraced a Muslim oriented debate with open arms. Something the Conservative party leadership is not ready to do. This is just another example of the top down approach Harper has enacted in his party. Like never before, the government is run mainly through the Prime Minister’s office. Once again, I see this as a counter to your argument that Harpreet Singh is the best candidate. It is evident that Canadian elections aren’t so much of voting for specific candidates, but rather a vote for the overall party. With Harper’s grip so strong around the CPC, it is foolish or ignorant to believe that Harpreet Singh will go against Stephen Harper if it is contradictory of the wishes of his constituents. By publishing an editorial like the two you have, you misinform the Muslim community on how Canadian political parties operate. Ultimately it does not matter on who the MP of a riding is as long as the leader has the final say. With Harpreet Singh being neither a minister nor high profile Conservative member it is unlikely his political career for the next 4 years would consist of much more than towing the party line.

& together, it was important to protect our rights. The Canadian values are composed of compassion, tolerance, and inclusiveness. As Canadians we have reclaimed Canada from fear mongering politicians, right wing extremist have no place in Canadian politics & society, also right wing agenda have died. True Canadian values have survived. During the election campaign the young voters stayed focused and vigilant, they made good use of the vote. A very vibrant Social media played a key role to express their views by voting out Conservatives. The liberals are very well organised during the election campaign, they were able to convenience young voters to cast their ballot wisely. Canadian youth have played a key role to change Orange wave into Red wave in Quebec, and in Ontario. We as Canadians have to protect our rights, communicate with your new MP’s, to have better understanding between the cultures. Try to face and defeat Mr.Haper and conservative party negative propaganda against weak and vulnerable communities.

Turkey to provide 34 T-37 aircraft free of cost to Pakistan
Turkey will provide 34 T-37 aircraft and their spare parts to Pakistan free of cost in a landmark deal signed between the two countries in Ankara, an official announcement said on Wednesday. On Pakistan’s desire of acquiring the aircraft, Turkey decided to provide 34 T-37, a jet trainer and light attack aircraft, without charging a single penny, said the defence ministry statement. Mass rallies in Hebron as Israel withholds bodies
Thousands of Palestinians protested in the city and the surrounding villages in a ‘Rally of Rage’ called for by political factions. They are demanding that Israel return the bodies of 11 locals who were killed while allegedly attacking Israeli soldiers or civilians. In a statement, local families called on Palestinians to “take to the streets to demand the return of the bodies of our heroic children held by the Israeli occupation forces”. Speaking to Al Jazeera, an Israeli army spokeswoman said that soldiers used “riot dispersal means” against “Palestinians who were violently rioting, hurling stones and throwing molotov cocktails”. Meanwhile, a Palestinian has been shot and killed by Israeli forces after he allegedly attempted to stab a soldier in Hebron in the Occupied West Bank. If confirmed, the death is the third fatal shooting in the last 24 hours. Earlier, two Palestinians were killed after they reportedly attacked an Israeli soldier at the Gush Etzion Junction near Bethlehem, a city in the central West Bank. The soldier sustained moderate injuries, according to an Israeli police spokesman. Triggered last month by Israeli incursions in Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, protests against Israel’s occupation have spread throughout Israel and the occupied
West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. Since the beginning of the month, Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 63 Palestinians, including unarmed protesters, bystanders and suspected attackers. Nine Israelis have been killed by Palestinian attackers in stabbing or shooting incidents. “This is collective punishment for the families and the community,” Amro said. “It’s about humiliating us. This is the real face of Israeli occupation: They don’t respect our lives when we’re living and even after we’re dead.” Earlier this month, Israeli Internal Security Minister Gilad Erdan proposed that the bodies of accused Palestinian attackers not be returned to their families. “The terrorist’s family turns the funeral into a demonstration of support for terrorism and incitement to murder,” Erdan said at the time. “We must not allow that. We must do everything so that the terrorist won’t be able to merit honour and ceremonies after conducting an attack.” The measure has not been introduced as a law, however. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has implemented harsh measures intended to quell the ongoing unrest, including expedited punitive home demolitions, the closure of Palestinian neighbourhoods in East Jerusalem and strict entry restrictions to Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem. Israeli forces have arrested more than 1,000 Palestinians since October 1, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Club, while dozens have been killed. In some cases, Israeli authorities have only agreed to return the bodies with strict conditions. After 19-year-old Fadi Alloun was fatally shot by Israeli police in occupied East Jerusalem earlier this month, Israeli authorities told his parents that they would return the teenager’s body in exchange for a fee of 20,000 Israeli shekels ($5,200) and on the condition that only 70 people were allowed to attend his funeral. Farah Bayadsi, a lawyer at the West Bank-based Addameer Prisoner Support Network, said that introducing conditions for the return of the bodies is “a clear violation of international law and the laws of war”. “It also raises concerns that returning they are blocking independent autopsies, which may lead to findings that challenge Israel’s story about the way they were killed,” Bayadsi told Al Jazeera. “Every day that the bodies aren’t returned we can expect clashes and protests to grow, especially because the situation is already tense.” Source: Al-Jazeera
Al Jazeera: Government committing genocide in Myanmar The government of Myanmar is triggering anti-Muslim riots and there is “strong evidence” genocide is taking place, an Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit has revealed. Al Jazeera obtained eyewitness and documentary evidence that suggests the Myanmar government is triggering communal violence in order to achieve political gain. The news organisation released Genocide Agenda today, a look at the Myanmar government’s actions against Muslims, and in which former United Nations’ Rapporteur on Myanmar says President Thein Sein should now be investigated for genocide. The film also provides evidence that monks were offered money to join anti-Muslim, pro-government groups. Al Jazeera’s investigation presents compelling evidence that marginalising Muslims and targeting the Rohingya plays into the hands of the military backed party, the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP). The USDP is running against numerous ethnic and other parties but primarily against the National League for Democracy (NLD), led by Aung Sang Suu Kyi. The investiga-
tion also reveals how the government triggers communal violence using hired thugs. A former member of Myanmar’s feared Military Intelligence service describes how she witnessed agent provocateurs from the army provoke problems with Muslims. “The army controlled these events from behind the scenes. They were not directly involved,” she said, “they paid money to people from outside.” Researchers gained evidence that communal violence resulting in hundreds of deaths in 2012 was preplanned. “It wasn’t communal violence. It was planned violence”, Professor Peggy Green said. “Express buses were organised” to bring Rakhine from outlying areas to take part in the violence. “Refreshments, meals were provided,” she said. “It had to be paid by somebody. All of this suggests that it was very carefully planned.” Al Jazeera’s film was completed in cooperation with Yale University Law School as well as the International State Crime Initiative at the University of London. US says Iran to be invited to next round of Syria talks
Iran, a key ally of Syrian President Bashar alAssad, will be invited to participate in talks in Vienna to discuss ending the conflict in Syria, the US says. The State Department said on Tuesday that it expected Damascus’ key ally Iran to be invited to the talks, which will be attended by US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov along with key Arab and European diplomats. “An invitation to Iran to participate, I think Iranian leaders can take to mean that it’s a genuine multilateral invitation,” department spokesman John Kirby told AFP news agency. US officials would not say which power would pass the invitation to Tehran and did not know if Iran would accept, but they said it would be welcome to attend if it did. Diplomatic efforts to end the civil war are stalemated, with Russia and Iran sticking with Assad while the US and Saudi Arabia insist he must agree to step down, even if not immediately. The aim of the talks, Kirby said, is to make a start on agreeing a framework for a political transition to end the war and pave the way for Assad’s exit. “So I can’t tell you exactly what the outcome of the meetings on Friday is going to be or if it’s the last chapter - I rather doubt that,” he said. Iran has spent billions of dollars in the past four years to keep Assad regime in power, with hundreds of its troops on the ground. About 2,000 Iranian troops were in Syria and Iraq helping the governments in Damascus and Baghdad, a top US military officer has said. Marine Corps General Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said on Tuesday the number of Iranian forces in Iraq had fluctuated over time. On the military front, the Pentagon said it may launch more air strikes and even direct ground attacks by special forces against armed fighters seeking to carve out an Islamic caliphate
in Iraq and Syria. Testifying to lawmakers, Defense Secretary Ash Carter said US forces would not shy away from “direct action on the ground” if they see a chance to hit ISIL targets. Obama’s administration has not committed ground forces to back opposition and Kurdish rebels fighting the ISIL in Syria, but has 3,500 troops in Iraq, which have a “train and advise” role. He told senators the international coalition led by the US would focus on the ISIL stronghold of Raqqa in Syria. “We expect to intensify our air campaign, including with additional US and coalition aircraft, to target ISIL with a higher and heavier rate of strikes,” he told the Senate Armed Services Committee. US-led efforts to “degrade and destroy” the ISIL group have been stymied by the chaos in Syria, where Alawite president Assad is battling a broader rebellion. The US blames Assad’s brutality against his own people for causing the war and preventing a united Syrian front against the ISIL group’s advance. Washington’s effort to include Iran in diplomatic process might anger Tehran’s bitter foe Saudi Arabia. The White House said that President Barack Obama and Saudi King Salman had discussed increased support for the moderate Syrian opposition in a call on Tuesday. It is unclear whether they discussed this week’s meetings in Vienna. Source: Al-Jazeera
Amnesty International has called for a full public inquiry into reports Australian officials paid people smugglers to turn back boats carrying asylum seekers, saying it had evidence to back the claim denied by the Australian government. In a new report released on Wednesday, the rights group says that lives of asylum seekers were endangered on two occasions in May and July when their boats were pushed back. Australia has adopted a hardline policy vowing to stop asylum seekers reaching its shores, turning boats back to Indonesia when it can, and holding asylum seekers in camps in South Pacific island nations such as Papua New Guinea and Nauru. But this policy came under renewed fire in June when a boat captain and two crew members arrested on suspicion of human trafficking told Indonesian police that Australian officials paid them to take their vessel with 65 asylum seekers on board back to Indonesia. The Australian government denied reports of paying the smugglers but the incident sparked a parliamentary inquiry and concern from Jakarta and the United Nations. Amnesty said it had now interviewed all the adults on the boat and the six crew members who told its researchers that Australian officials paid them $32,000 to turn back the vessel with asylum seekers from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Myanmar. The rights group also said officials from two Australian ships - one from the Navy and one the border force - later moved the passengers and crew onto two boats and gave them “little fuel”, a GPS device and a basic map, putting lives at risk. In its report Amnesty also called for an investigation into a second case of possible payment to a crew on July 25. “All of the available evidence points to Australian officials having commit-
ted a transnational crime by, in effect, directing a people-smuggling operation, paying a boat crew and then instructing them on exactly what to do and where to land in Indonesia,” said Amnesty refugee researcher, Anna Shea. “People-smuggling is a crime usually associated with private individuals, not governments - but here we have strong evidence that Australian officials are not just involved, but directing operations,” she said in a statement. Amnesty urged Australia to hold a royal commission, a formal public inquiry, to investigate allegations of criminal acts committed by government officials, and also called for independent monitoring of border control operations. The group has taken out advertisements in two Australian newspapers on Thursday, calling on Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to launch a Royal Commission into people smuggler payments. An immigration ministry official said the Australian government has repeatedly denied all the allegations in the Amnesty report. People on intercepted vessels are “held lawfully in secure, safe, humane, and appropriate conditions” by Australian Border Force (ABF) and Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel, a government spokeswoman said. “To suggest otherwise, as Amnesty has done, is to cast a slur on the men and women of the ABF and ADF,” a spokeswoman for the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection told the Thomson Reuters Foundation by email. “Operation Sovereign Borders is conducted consistent with Australian domestic law and Australia’s obligations under international law.” In August, Australia’s Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said authorities had turned back 20 boats in the previous 18 months and stopped 633 people from arriving in the country.

Justin Trudeau’s Senate appointments plan backed by advice from justice officials
Senators gather in Ottawa for 3-day meeting as Liberals consider Senate reform Liberals say advice from the Justice Department supports the party’s plan to put in place a panel to advise Canada’s next prime minister on Senate appointments, CBC News has learned. Prime minister-designate Justin Trudeau will move forward with an ambitious agenda and open Parliament with a speech from the throne before the end of the year, as CBC reported Tuesday. With 22 vacancies in the 105-seat Senate, future senators will be appointed based on merit with the help of a panel, but the prime minister would still have to make the final call, a senior Liberal source told CBC News. The new advisory board could be named by year’s end, the source said. Trudeau made a bold move last year when he kicked out Liberal senators from his caucus, effectively forcing them to sit as Independents. He promised a new, nonpartisan Senate void of patronage appointments. When the next session of Parliament

opens, Trudeau will be faced with a majority of Conservative senators sitting in opposition and no official government senators to usher legislation through. “We’re on a magical mystery tour here right now,” said Independent Senator Jim Munson. Munson said senators don’t know who would formally introduce government legislation in the Senate, a task usually performed by the leader of the government in the Senate. Trudeau has not said whether he would make such an appointment, telling reporters a day after his party’s majority win that he looked forward to discussing it. “These are part of the conversations we’ll be having with Senate leadership,” Trudeau said a week ago. The office of ex-Liberal Senator James Cowan told CBC News that as of today, Trudeau had not met with the Senate leadership.Senators are appointed by the Governor General on the advice of the prime minister.

China says it warned and tracked Canada Post suspends planned U.S. warship in South China Sea conversion to community mailboxes
China said it warned and tracked a U.S. Navy warship as it came close to one of its artificial islands in the South China Sea’s contested waters. Cui Tiankai, Chinese ambassador to the United States, told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Tuesday that the U.S. operation is “a very serious provocation, politically and militarily.” Cui said it was a clear attempt by Washington to militarize the region. “It is a very absurd and even hypocritical position to ask others not to militarize the region while one’s self is sending military vessels there so frequently,” he said. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the vessel “illegally entered into the waters of China’s Spratly Islands.” “The action taken by the U.S. warship has threatened China’s sovereignty and security interest, and has put the safety of personnel on the reefs in danger,” a ministry statement said. Two Chinese warships and naval warplanes monitored and warned the American vessel, the Defense Ministry said. A U.S. defense official told CNN that the destroyer USS Lassen “conducted a transit” within 12 nautical miles of Subi Reef in the Spratly Islands on Tuesday morning. The operation put the ship within an area that would be considered Chinese sovereign territory if the United States recognized the man-made islands as being Chinese territory, the official said. The United States hadn’t breached the 12-mile limit since China began massive dredging operations to turn three reefs into artificial islands in 2014 -- even though maritime law doesn’t usually accord territorial waters to islands built on previously submerged reefs. U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter, testifying before a Senate panel, said the missions will continue. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned of consequences if a country caused trouble or raised tensions in the territories China claims as its own. Chinese military spokesman Col. Yang Yujun offered similarly stern words about what he called “an abuse of freedom of navigation.” The South China Sea is the subject of rival and often messy territorial claims, with China, Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam disputing sovereignty of island chains and nearby waters. In little more than 18 months, China has reclaimed more than 2,000 acres at three main locations in the Spratly Islands -- Subi, Mischief and Fiery Cross reefs, where it’s building airstrips thought to be capable of handling bombers. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that its activity in the South China Sea didn’t affect freedom of navigation by sea or air but said it held “indisputable sovereignty over
the Spratly Islands and its nearby waters.” In May, a U.S. surveillance plane carrying a CNN crew swooped over the Spratly Islands, triggering eight warnings from the Chinese navy to back off. Chinese navy ships entered U.S. territorial waters off Alaska in September, coming within 12 miles of the coastline during President Barack Obama’s visit to the state, U.S. officials told CNN at the time. The officials said that China’s actions were consistent with “innocent passage” under international maritime law. Another U.S. defense official told CNN that the operation was “routine” and was in accordance with international law. His comments echoed those of State Department spokesman John Kirby, who said Monday that a country didn’t need to consult another “when you are exercising the right of freedom of navigation in international waters.” On Tuesday, Kirby reiterated his point and said it was “a right, it’s a principle.” The rest of the region, wary of China’s intentions in the disputed waters, is likely to welcome the U.S. move. Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga declined to comment but said, “It was extremely important that the international community work together in order to protect open, free and peaceful ocean.” Australia said it “strongly supports” the rights of all countries to travel through the South China Sea. Taiwan said it rejected China’s claim of sovereignty over the Spratly archipelago and called for dialogue to resolve the dispute peacefully. A retired admiral who formerly commanded U.S. naval forces in the Pacific told CNN that he isn’t concerned there will be a military showdown. Greg Poling, director of the Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, said that the U.S. operation was aimed at testing control of the seas, not sovereignty over the disputed islands, and would present a dilemma for China. Poling said under maritime law, artificial islands were not usually afforded the 12-mile territorial zone, and that the U.S. Navy deliberately chose to send the destroyer near Subi Reef for this reason. Before China’s recent land reclamation, both Subi and Mischief reefs were submerged at high tide, while a sandbar was visible at high tide at Fiery Cross Reef, which could make its legal status more ambiguous. He said the decision to go ahead with the mission follows months of discussion in Washington and likely followed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s trip there last month, which made little headway on the issue of the South China Sea. Canada Post is temporarily shelving its plan to convert door-to-door mail delivery to community mailboxes in the wake of a campaign pledge by prime minister-designate Justin Trudeau to reverse cuts to the agency. In statement released on Monday, the Crown Corporation says that “all conversions” planned for November and December 2015, and those scheduled to follow in 2016, will be placed “on hold.” “We will work collaboratively with the Government of Canada to determine the best path forward given the ongoing challenges faced by the Canadian postal system,” said the statement. Up to this point, the proposed conversion included about 460,000 addresses across the country. Canada Post says that customers affected by the shift will receive a letter in the next weeks updating them about their mail delivery. It added that neighbourhoods where the conversion process is already complete will be served by their community mailbox. “We remain focused on maintaining reliable postal service to all Canadians without disruption,” said the statement. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers told The Canadian Press that it was pleased by the announcement. Union spokesperson Alain Robitaille told CTV Montreal, now that a freeze has been implemented, there can be a conversation about the future of mail delivery in Canada. “For sure, we’ve got to change the postal services,” he said. “But we must protect door-to-door delivery for the customers.” While Trudeau promised during the election to undo cuts to the Crown Corporation made under the Conservative government, the incoming Liberals have yet to give any formal indication they want Canada Post to scrap the five-year conversion plan. Community mailboxes have been a source of controversy since it was announced home-mail delivery would be phased out two years ago. The move made Canada the first G7 country to drop all door-to-door delivery. The conversion has prompted a range of protests: a failed legal challenge from the City of Hamilton; Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre drilling into a concrete base for the mailboxes with a jackhammer; and a Hamilton man sitting in a lawn chair to prevent an installation near his residence. The City of Montreal also joined lawsuit against Canada Post launched by advocates for seniors, people with disabilities and postal employees. After Monday’s announcement, Montreal Mayor
Denis Coderre told reporters that he is ready to “reconsider” the case but is worried about the Crown Corporation’s commitment. “We have to be vigilant with Canada Post because you never know; they say one thing, and the next day who knows what happens,” he said. For many, the dispute boils down to the potential challenges facing Canadians with mobility issues. Eighty-nine-year-old Anna Hawksworth’s Laval, Que., neighbourhood is one of the eight communities in the province now served by a community mailbox. “It is gone, it will never come back,” said Hawksworth. Because she has difficulty walking, she says going to fetch her mail is “too hard” and was “disappointed” by the conversion. “I really would like to have it delivered the way it used to be: open my door, look in my mailbox and get my mail,” said Hawksworth. “We should have it at home and not in a mailbox.” Coderre echoed Hawksworth’s concerns about the community mailboxes. “If you lived 50 years in the same area, you have some mobility problems and you have some health problems. Are we going to say, ‘Walk in -20C or find another way?’” he said. “No. It is a public service, it is owned by Canadians, and we have to do what we have to do.” He added that technology will likely change the future of mail delivery in Canada, but in the meantime there needs to be a consultation to discuss options for the near future. “In five years, maybe we won’t receive any mail, but during that time, we need to work together, we need to find a better way,” said Coderre. However, maintaining door-to-door likely won’t come cheap. A study by the Conference Board of Canada in 2013, estimated that Canada Post could save $576 million a year by eliminating the service. when he was a child and his father was prime minister. The Liberals will consider asking the Supreme Court for at least an additional six months to come up with new laws around doctor-assisted suicide, the source said. The court ruled that in specific cases terminally ill adults have the right to ask a doctor to help them die, giving Ottawa until Feb. 6 to amend the current law. “One year is hardly enough,” Trudeau said earlier this year when he introduced a Liberal motion calling on the House of Commons to take action on physician-assisted death. Other Liberal government priorities include launching an in-
quiry into missing and murdered indigenous women, repealing certain measures included in Bill C-51, the anti-terror law, and a reinstatement of the long-form census. Trudeau is expected to meet with U.S. President Barack Obama during the G20 meeting in Turkey. Obama is already aware of Trudeau’s intentions to pull Canada out of the U.S.-led air combat mission against ISIS in Iraq. “He understands the commitments I’ve made around ending the combat mission,” Trudeau told reporters last week during his first news conference as prime minister-designate. F A I T H On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah () said: When Allah decreed the Creation He pledged Himself by writing in His book which is laid down with Him: My mercy prevails over my wrath. It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari, an-Nasa’i and Ibn Majah).
Sufficient for us is Allah Almighty By Mariam Anwar We offer salutations to Prophet Ibrahim or Abraham (peace be upon him) in every prayer. Allah Almighty chose him, guided him and blessed him with sound wisdom. Since his early age, Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) stood in the face of evil, debated with his people, called them to worship Allah alone and when they persisted in disbelief, he destroyed the idols that his people were worshiping. As a consequence, when their arguments were refuted and their incapability became clear, when truth was made manifest and falsehood was defeated, they resorted to using their power and strength, and decided to throw him in the raging fire. They were so full of hatred for him that they considered it a religious duty to put him in torment. In Tafsir Ibn Katheer it says that, “If a woman was sick, she would make a vow that if she recovered she would bring wood to burn Ibrahim.” There was no limit to their hostility but all their aggressiveness could not make Prophet Ibrahim’s faith in Allah flinch even a tiny bit. We can’t even imagine the plight of Ibrahim. He was the only believer among the huge crowd of polytheists and even his own father was on the side of the prosecution. Ibrahim (peace be upon him) heard them when they plotted against him, he saw them when they made a hole in the ground and set it aflame, and it burned with huge sparks and immense flames yet his faith in Allah remained unshakable and his heart in full submission to His plan for him. Ibn Abbas said: “When Prophet Ibrahim was thrown into the fire, he said: ‘HasbunAllahu wa ni’mal Wakeel — Allah
(alone) is sufficient for us, and, He is the best Disposer of affairs. (Al-Bukhari) Allah Almighty said: “Those to whom hypocrites said, ‘Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them.’ But it (merely) increased them in faith, and they said, “Sufficient for us is Allah, and (He is) the best Disposer of affairs (HasbunAllahu wa ni’mal Wakeel).” (3:173) Words which mean Allah is sufficient for us, we don’t need anybody else but Him, He is someone we delegate our affairs to and He is the only One Who will take care of us. A heart devoid of faith will never be able to say these words. It’s only a true believer who will understand and know without a doubt that Allah alone is the One who Bestows help and protection and the One Who Withholds, and He alone is the Remover of Harm and Affliction. When Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) uttered these words he affirmed the Power of Allah, His Love and His knowledge. He knew that Allah is Aware of his feelings and his con-
dition. He said these powerful words as if they were a shield for him against the raging fire and he didn’t care who was against him because he had the Most powerful and Most Merciful with him. And history is aware how the response of Allah came as a swift command and He said to the raging fire: “O fire! Be you cool and safety for Ibrahim!” and there was no fire left on earth that was not extinguished.” Ibn Abbas and Abu Al-Aliyah said: “Were it not for the fact that Allah said, “..and safety,” Ibrahim would have been harmed by its coldness.” Allahu Akbar. Allah responded to the faithful statement of Ibrahim in the best of ways and made him land into a place similar to a garden with no sign of the blazing fire and gave him victory over the ones who thought that they had power over all things. And this is only because of his strong faith and his dua filled with certainty, the effect of which made the world sit up and watch in amazement! It was the same faith and certainty in his Lord that made Ibrahim
(p (peace be upon h him) disassociate h himself from his fa father and his peop and make hijrah ple to someplace where he c could establish the relig gion of Allah with his wife S Sarah and his nephew Lut w who had accepted faith. And A Allah tells us of another similar a equally beautiful du’aa that he and u uttered when he left: Rabbana alaika ta tawakkalna wa alayka anabna wa ila aykal maser. “ “Our Lord, upon You we have relied, and to You we have returned, and to You is the d destination.” (Qur’an, 60:4) K Know dear believers, submitting to the w of Allah and leaving your affairs to will Him provides the healing touch that is much necessary in one’s life. One has to believe in the promise of Allah when He tells us in the Qur’an: “And whoever relies upon Allah, then He is sufficient for him.” (Qur’an, 65:3) Relying on Allah Alone, trusting Him for His Decisions for us and patiently waiting for an outcome that will always be best for us even if it is not pleasing to us, is the condition for Allah being sufficient for us! When we don’t have such a belief then Allah leaves us on our own. By putting one’s complete Trust in Allah, by leaving matters unto Him, by seeking only His grace and mercy, by accepting His decree, by submitting to His Will, a Muslim can equip oneself to face all the challenges of life. And this one single statement: ‘HasbunAllahu wa ni’mal Wakeel’ will be enough in itself to be a source of all strength, a push toward attaining our goals and a reason for ultimate success, Insha Allah!

Remembrance of the great martyrs of Karbala @ Masjid Anwaar e Madina By: Afroz Dean On Oct 24, Masjid Anwaar e Madina organized a very spiritual program in the remembrance of the great martyrs of Karbala and the great and high status of the grandson of the holy prophet ,sallallahu alaihe wa Sallam , saiyyiduna Imaam Hussein radi allahu ta’ala anhu. The program started off with an excellent recitation of Quran by Hafiz Farouk Yaqub , followed by a few naats and manqabats , in combination with zikr mehfil . Then after Isha , maulana Saiyad Imroz Dean Saify , who holds permission and spiritual authority in naqshbandi , qadri , chisti , and soharwardi, delivered a very informative , spiritual and factual speech regarding the events of Karbala and the reasons behind it. Imaam Hussein fought to save and honour Islam against the tyranny of Yazeed and his stands. Imaam Hussein’s stand against Yazeed was to stop and save the Deen of Isam from the changes and negative amendments and the wild glamorous face of Islam that Yazeed was intend-
ing to present. He fought and made the greatest sacrifice for the sake of Deen that we have today Maulana Imroz also mentioned the greatness of Imaam Hassan , the older brother of Imaam Hussein , and his status and the reason that most people have chosen not to remember or talk about him. He mentioned the importance of having love and respect of the Ahle Bayt from the Quran and Hadiths . It is mandatory upon all Muslims to have love and respect for the family of the holy prophet, namely the prophet , Hazrat Ali, Hazrat Fatima, Imaam Hassan and Imaam Hussein . Maulana Imroz reminded everyone about the zikr mehfil at the masjid every Friday at 6 pm and is available for any questions or concerns anyone might have regarding Deen . He is at the masjid from zuhr till Isha everyday and will explain from the Quran and Hadiths . The program finished with Salaat o Salaam and everyone left after having a delicious dinner and dessert .

‘I will be the prime minister of all Canadians,’ Trudeau Justin Trudeau in victory speech: Watch Stephen Harper’s full con- Trudeau, who has insisted a woman
‘We beat fear with hope, we beat cynicism with hard work’ Justin Trudeau used his maiden speech as prime minister-designate to start the healing process for wounds torn open during a divisive election campaign. The Liberal leader spoke of a young mother he met on the campaign trail last week, as he addressed hundreds of exuberant supporters in Montreal after Monday’s victory. “She said she’s voting for us because she wants to make sure that her little girl has the right to make her own choices in life and that her government will protect those rights,” he told supporters. “To her I say this: You and your fellow citizens have chosen a new government — a government that believes deeply in the diversity of this country.”
cession speech: ‘We put it all on the line….We have no regrets’ In his speech to supporters, Harper said it had been an “unbelievable honour” to serve as prime minister and that the recent lengthy campaign had been a “great experience.“We put it all on the line. We gave everything we have to give and we have no regrets whatsoever.” Harper publicly congratulated Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau for his election victory and promised his full co-operation in the transition to a new government in the coming days. The exchange refers to vocal attempts by the Conservatives and the Bloc Quebecois to drive a wedge in the electorate during the campaign. They emphasized their firm stances that women should be banned from wearing face coverings, such as the Islamic niqab, at citizenship ceremonies.

Trudeau said she told him something he would never forget. Justin Trudeau will be Canada’s next prime minister after leading the Liberal Party to a stunning majority government win, dashing the hopes of Stephen Harper, who had been seeking his fourth consecutive mandate, but will now step down as party leader. This will be the second time for Canada to be led by a Trudeau, as the 43-year-old Liberal leader follows in the footsteps of his father, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, who served as prime minister for almost 16
In an unprecedented victory for the Canadian Muslim community, many Canadian Muslims emerged victorious in the country’s 2015 general elections, defying prejudice and stereotype faced by the religious minority in the country. At least 10 Muslim candidates, including four women, won this weeks’ election that is expected to spell a sea-change in Canadian politics following the sweeping victory of Liberals, according to Muslim Link. The Liberals were elected in 185 districts, with Justin Trudeau winning his Montreal district. The party needed 170 to gain a majority. The Conservatives were next with 97, followed by the New Democrats at 28 and Bloc Quebecois with nine.
The National President of the Canadian Somali Congress was elected for the Liberals in York South-Weston, becoming Canada’s first Somali Canadian MP. years before retiring in 1984. Justin Trudeau has promised to end a decade of divisive politics, vowing to unite Canadians and embrace diversity. “I will be the prime minister of all Canadians,” he told a crowded rally in Montreal after winning a historic Liberal majority government. Opinion: The Russians and the Syrian Crisis
By:Salman Aldosary
Salman Aldosary is the editor-in-chief of Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper. More Posts Russia did not wait long after its entrance into the Syrian conflict to bolster its position. Since its military action began, Moscow has backed it up with a frenzied slew of political moves. The standout maneuvers here are Moscow’s proposed solu-
tions to the crisis in Syria, details of which were covered by Asharq Al-Awsat on Saturday. Moscow has been able to take advantage of Western ambivalence on the Syria issue, which has created a space for President Vladimir Putin to rise to the occasion and allows the Kremlin to assume the role of an implacable international player in the crisis—one that has, at the same time, now also become indispensable to its solution. Bashar Al-Assad’s departure has always been at a crucial part of proposed international solutions on the Syria issue. But recently there have been a series of signs from Washington to London to Paris to Berlin, as well as other Western capitals, that they are changing tack on the issue, accepting Assad’s remaining in power perhaps for a brief period—a change that has come perhaps as a result of the influx of thousands of Syr-

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and Turkey—true friends of the Syrian people—have not budged from their positions on the Assad issue, assuming the role of isolated refuseniks who must now reluctantly deal with this international change of heart—one which, of course, benefits Russia. Neither country wants Assad to remain in power, even for a brief period; but neither has also objected to the recent international U-turn on the issue, as both wish to find a viable solution to this crisis whose problems grow ever more complex as time goes on. Whilst we cannot say that the Russian proposal is the best put forward thus far, it is certainly the “best of the worst” solutions that have been offered. The West has failed to adequately stand by the Syrian people, leaving the space open for the Russian Bear to step in and fill the vacuum. As the conflict has gone on, the world has slowly abandoned the Syrian people, until only Riyadh and Ankara are now left to swim against the current of international malaise on Syria, even after the U-turns on the Assad issue, which was, once upon a time, a red-line for the international community. The truth is that it is quite likely Assad will not leave after 18 months as has been proposed. We may well find that after three or four or even 10 years that the crisis remains ongoing, still inflamed, and Assad remains at the head of the ruling regime, even if he only controls a small part of the country’s overall territory. This is likely in light of the political and military support he continues to receive from Moscow. The dilemma now is how Assad can be kept as far away as possible from the political process in Syria during the coming period— and whether Moscow is truly capable of offering real guarantees that the current regime will not rise once again, in new form, like a phoenix from the ashes. Unfortunately, the absence of a positive role from the US, which was previously a leader in the talks and has now become a follower, hacks away at any confidence that the Russian plans will generate a genuine solution free of booby-trapped tactical moves from Moscow. This is especially true in light of the Syrian opposition’s concerns regarding Russia’s seriousness about reaching a genuine political solution. Last week’s meetings in Vienna on the Syrian crisis showed Washington acquiescing to Russia’s vision, as well a lack of any real desire from the White House to to assume a leading position on the issue. There is now nothing left for Washington to do except go through the motions pertaining to this new role it has adopted. Hopefully it will be able to secure some internationally sanctioned balance that will temper this new, terrifying Russian drive. The bitter reality is that Moscow is now pointing the way for everyone else to abandon Syria, while at the same time not being able guarantee there will be a Syria left at all, now that everyone has actually jumped ship.

PM: Fiji to announce emission targets for COP 21 meet By KERESI NAUWAKARAWA Government will soon announce its emission targets for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 21) meeting in December. Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama announced this at the Pacific Technical Experts and Ministerial Consultation on Strengthening Climate Change through Reproductive, Maternal, New-born, Child and Adolescent Health meeting in Nadi last night. “I come here tonight with a deep sense of foreboding. Because five weeks out from the United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Paris, I have yet to detect the necessary political will on the part of many of the industrialised nations to face up to their obligation to humanity to effectively confront this crisis. “Here in Fiji, we are also doing what we can. We will soon announce our own emission targets to take to the Paris summit. They will be as ambitious as we can possibly afford as a developing nation. But let me make it clear
that we are not the problem. In fact our per capita carbon emissions in 2013 were estimated to be 1.5 tonnes compared to a world average of 5.6 tonnes. “We have also built energy efficiency into our various national plans our National Climate Policy and our Green Growth Framework, that makes the sustainable use of our resources on land and at sea our number one priority. We must take our fight to Paris and beyond. “We must build a global coalition for action on climate change and defeat the coalition of the selfish. And with the assistance of men and women of conscience and goodwill the world over, I believe we can.?
Call for allocation to ght violence against women HOPES are high that the seriousness of violence against women will be reflected in the 2016 national budget. The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre believes a huge allocation should be set aside by the Government to fight domestic violence and to prevent it from happening. This was part of their submission at the 2016 pre-budget forum where they had three representatives on the invitation of the Minister for Finance and Attorney-General Aiyaz SayedKhaiyum. “The Prime Minister has been leading the fight against it. He has been so vocal on the issue as well as the Minister for Women so we hope that a large allocation will be given to reflect the seriousness of the issue,” said FWCC
co-ordinator Shamima Ali. While they had no written submission, she said they had verbally made their submission at the forum with hopes that all those points would be incorporated. They had requested for an increased budget for other services that they liaised with. “We had asked for an increase in the police budget. Most of the time they are talking about lack of resources, including vehicles so we hope to have their budget increased so that they are able to respond well to reports. “We want more funds for police to help in their training on human rights. “Improved health service is another area we requested that Government should look into for an increased allocation.”

High Commissioner of Pakistan visits BC
On Oct 22 Consul General of Pakistan Hon Dr. Muhammad Tariq hosted a dinner in the honor of His Excellency Mr. Tariq Azim Khan, the recently appointed High Commissioner of Pakistan in Canada. The local business community, Pakistani associations’ members and media were invited at his residence in Vancouver. Consul Mr. Fahad Amjad welcomed the guests and Mr. Shams Jilani recited the verses of Quran. Hon Dr. Muhammad Tariq introduced Mr. Khan and thanked for his first visit in British Columbia. His Excellency Mr. Tariq Azim Khan addressed the Pakistani Community. He said, “ we are not the only ambassadors over here, you all are ambassadors of Pakistan in Canada”. He acknowledged that due to overseas Pakistanis’ remittance, Pakistani government is getting billion of dollars every year and it is very thankful to people. It is unfortunate that overseas Pakistani embassies don’t have exact figures of overseas Pakistanis, but he has tried to find the solution and discussed with different data collection sources. As per census of 2011 Canada, only %%%%%%% Pakistani population is in Canada, but in fact Pakistani residents in Ontario alone are more than this. He highlighted the current progress of Pakistan security forces in the War on Terror in Pakistan especially in Karachi as well as many other developments in Pakistan. HE. Mr. Khan asked the community about their concerns about consulates of Pakistan in Canada. In response to a question by Miracle Media about lobbying by Pakistani consulates in Canada, Mr. Khan said that they are doing their best at official level but if all Pakistani Canadians discuss the positive developments in Pakistan and its issues wiyh at least one of his/her neighbour, office colleague, or at college, university or work place i.e Kashmir issue and its UN resolution # 47 dated August 13,1948, you can introduce Pakistan to thousands of people every year in Canada. He also requested to those who criticise Pakistan or its Politicians to do it with other Pakistanis instead of tarnishing Pakistan’s image in other communities. The Miracle also inquired about the deadline for Machine Readable Passports for travel to Pakistan in November 2015. The Consulate of Pakistan in Vancouver is not yet processing MRP. HE. Mr. Khan replied that machinery/ equipment has reached Vancouver office and Inshallah we will send an operator soon to resolve this matter on pri-
ority basis. Many other questions were raised including Mr. Intikab Ahmed’s question about 1500 Pak Rupees airport fees, Dr, Babra’s request about providing protection to overseas Pakistani for their property in Pakistan. NICOP and Pakistani politics were also discussed at this Q &A session. Afghanistan-Pakistan quake: Rescue efforts expanded
Rescue efforts are being stepped up to help those affected by the magnitude-7.5 earthquake which hit remote areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan on Monday. More than 360 people are known to have died, most of them in Pakistan, and at least 2,000 were injured. Rescue teams have been sent to remote mountainous areas where the impact of the quake is still unclear. The Taliban, which controls some areas affected, called on aid agencies “not to hold back” relief supplies. A spokesman said Taliban fighters had been ordered to help the victims. In another development, Pakistani officials said several glaciers in the Karakoram mountain range had cracked, in one case causing a flood, but so far without loss of life. Many people across the region, afraid of a new quake, spent the night sleeping outside in temperatures close to freezing. “We have insufficient food and other aid,” said Abdul Habib Sayed Khil, police chief in Afghanistan’s Kunar province.
“It has been raining for four days and the weather is very cold.” On Tuesday, the Afghan presidential palace tweeted that the death toll had risen to 115, with 538 people injured. It said that 7,630 homes, 12 schools and 17 mosques were among the buildings destroyed or damaged. In a televised address, President Ashraf Ghani urged those living in affected areas to help the rescue effort. The governor of Badakhshan province, Shah Waliullah Adeeb, said survey teams were heading into more remote areas on Tuesday but landslides had blocked roads and helicopters were needed. Afghan victims included 12 schoolgirls killed in a crush as they tried to leave their classes in Taluqan, Takhar province. In Pakistan, at least 248 people were killed and 1,665 injured, the national disaster agency said. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province alone, authorities said at least 202 people had died, and more than 1,480 were injured. At least another 30 died in the north-western tribal areas. Afghan and Pakistani press: Quake is ‘wake-up call’ Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has admitted that it still has not been able to reach some of the remotest areas affected. NDMA member Ahmed Kamal told the BBC some of those areas had become inaccessible because roads had been blocked in several places by landslides. Mr Kamal could not say how big the unreachable area was. The track record of the disaster management authorities in Pakistan
“is not sterling”, Pakistan’s Daily Times says bluntly, adding that lessons from the 2005 earthquake have not been learned. The disaster authorities’ “presence in most vulnerable small towns is minimal while even in major urban areas their efforts are lacking in efficacy and credibility”. “Let this episode jolt us into the awareness that it is high time we woke up and took disaster preparedness and response more seriously,” Pakistan’s Dawn says. “The alarm bell has rung,” Afghanistan’s Mandegar agrees, with the Daily Afghanistan accusing the authorities of failing to confront natural disasters. Hasht-e Sobh claims that most buildings in Kabul in the past decade are structurally unsound. “Such irregularities are the result of administrative and financial corruption in government bodies,” it says, claiming that most school buildings funded by international organisations in the provinces are not earthquake-proof either. As you mentioned, many young people are deviating from Islam and becoming alienated from all that is related to the Din, and there are many reasons, among which are: Their lack of knowledge and ignorance of the reality and merits of Islam; their inattention to the Qur’an; and the lack of educators who have knowledge and ability to explain the reality of Islam and its merits to those young people, its goals, and the good that will be attained through it in the Dunia (this world) and in the Hereafter. There are also other reasons, such as their environment; the radio; television; traveling abroad; mixing with visitors who have false ‘Aqidahs (creeds) and deviant morals combined with ignorance; and other factors that alienate them from Islam and attract them to atheism and immorality. All these factors have combined to affect many young people, whose hearts are void of beneficial knowledge and a sound ‘Aqidah. The invasive influx of doubts, suspicious beliefs, misleading propaganda, and seductive desires, have resulted in what you mentioned in your question about their deviation and estrangement from all that is related to Islam. The best words that have been said in this regard are: Her passion came to me before I knew passion;it came across an empty heart and so seized it! More eloquent, truthful, and better than this are Allah’s Words: “Have you (O Muhammad seen him who has taken as his ilâh (god) his own vain desire? Would you then be a Wakîl (a disposer of his affairs or a watcher) over him?” Or do you think that most of them hear or understand? They are only like cattle – nay, they are even farther
astray from the Path (i.e. even worse than cattle).” [Qur’aan Surah al-Furqan 25:43] As for remedy, I believe that it varies according to the type of illness. The most important remedies are to dedicate attention to the Qur’an, and to the Sirah (biography) of the Prophet; to provide righteous teachers, directors, and inspectors; the correct Manhaj (methodology); to correct the mass media in Islamic countries, and purify it from inviting people to immorality, non-Islamic manners, and types of atheism and corruption. Those responsible should be truthful in their efforts of Da‘wah (calling to Islam) and have an honest desire to guide the people and the youth to Islam. This also means that attention should be paid to the environment, to reform and purify it from these epidemics. The remedy also includes prohibiting travel abroad, except for necessities, paying attention to spreading pure purposeful Islamic awareness by means of the mass media, teachers, Du‘ah (callers to Islam), and preachers. I ask Allah to grant us this and correct the Muslim’s leaders and guide them to comprehend the Din, adhere to it, and fight those who contradict it, and to do so with honesty, sincerity, and ceaseless efforts! Indeed, He is the All-Hearer, Ever Near! Source: Collection of Fatwas of Ibn Baz

Canada Spoke LOUD & CLEAR
By:Nusrat Hussain Sqn. Ldr.(R) nh.guidingstar@gmail.com Recent election result cannot be termed anything else, but ‘FANTASTIC’ for the wellbeing of Canada. In the end we have to consider the overall betterment for Canada and the Canadians. A majority sweep by the Liberal party with 184 seats in the parliament is a healthy sign for Canadian politics and her citizens. Election result has revealed the educated mindset of the majority of Canadians. They have disregarded the perception of the presence of hate (if there was any) against any community in our beloved home land. It is no rocket science to determine the major cause of the defeat of the Conservative party. They lost because of their policies of fear, suspicion and hatred perceived by the Canadians at large. Security of Canada is paramount and it should be taken care of by introducing the effective and efficient laws under the new Liberal government. Elect Prime Minister Justin
Trudeau got in position not only because of the Liberal policies, but also because of his charismatic personality. It wouldn’t be unfair to state that the amount of love received by Trudeau was almost equal to the amount of hatred earned by the outgoing Prime Minister Harper. I am glad to confess that the Canadians have shown their solidarity to the fundamental value of ‘diversity’ based on the pillars of inclusiveness, tolerance, love and acceptance of all the cultures. NDP has been cut to her genuinely original size. It was because of the magnetic personality of late Jack Layton (God bless his soul) that NDP became the official opposition in the previous election. Later, they failed to produce a leadership parallel to Layton and hence paid the price. Trudeau’s immediate actions emerging from his victory speech and a telephone call to President Obama to pull Canada out of the U.S.-led air combat mission against ISIS in Iraq were in line with his promises made during the pre election campaign. How is he going to take certain measures in repealing the Bill C-51 and address to the other promises made during the election campaign is yet to be seen? Loss of Harpreet in the SurreyNewton riding may be the loss of an intellectual, but I would wish
him to continue with the Conservatives. With the departure of Harper, it is expected out of people like Harpreet that they would repair the damage by amending the hate policies introduced under the leadership of Harper. I would like to conclude with my poem that was first published in 2005 and earned me an outstanding poet’s award by the International Society of Poets based in USA.

Social Media Is MakingYou Stupid This post is in partnership with Inc., which offers useful advice, resources, and insights to entrepreneurs and business owners. The article below was originally published at Inc. comSocial media, we all know, can make you unproductive. If you’re indiscreet or offensive, it can complicate your relationships. But can it also make you downright dumb? That’s what a new study published in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface suggests. How can spending more time on Facebook or Twitter end up making us stupider? It’s not just that all those hours clicking crops in Farmville and the like simply represnts time that could be spent, say, reading a book and actually learning something. The greater problem seems to be the human tendency to copy others. Can You Copycat Your Way to Intelligence? To come to this conclusion, the scientists created five artificial social networks made up of volunteers. Some connected their members in a tight net, where everyone was in contact with everyone else. Others kept the participants more separate. They then tasked the participants with answering a tricky set of brainteasers. Were those who were more socially connected more or less likely to figure out the right answers? In the short term, more connections yielded more right answers, but not because members were learning. Nope, they were just stealing. “The researchers found that in well connected networks volunteers… got better at giving the right answer the more times they were asked and the more opportunities they had to steal their neighbours’
answers,”Phys.org reports. “This result showed that when the students had lots of connections to peers they could recognise where they had given a wrong answer and swap it for the right one.” But did copying smarter social connections improve participants’ ability to figure out the answers independently? In short, no. Given a fresh question, the copycats performed no better than when they first joined the social network. The Good News–and the Bad The results offer encouragement for both fans and critics of social networks. If you look at things on the group level, there is reason for cheer. “Being able to copy from other people in vast networks means analytical responses rapidly spread, fulfilling their promise of improved decision-making for well-connected people,” says Phys.org. But for individuals, the implications are less positive. Social networking probably isn’t making you smarter. In fact, it could be making you dumber by supplying answers and insights without requiring any actual thinking, so that your analytic powers begin to waste away like an unused muscle. Or as the research team puts it: “On the other hand, the bias may very well decrease the frequency of analytical reasoning by making it easy and commonplace for people to reach analytical response without engaging analytical processing.” In the long-term, they warn, “increased connectivity may eventually make us stupid by making us smarter first.” Source: Inc.com

This celebration was an outstanding success in the preparation, presentation and organization of the AICP and renowned Islamic
Chants Group for hosting an entertaining event for the diverse Muslim community attending and participating. Recitation from the Blessed Qur’an initiated the whole celebration of more than 300 attendees. The diverse attendance enjoyed and reacted delightfully to chants praising Allah ta^ala and His blessed Messenger Muhammad sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam. Orations in both Arabic and English languages reflected on the great insights and
virtues of the Blessed Migration (Hijrah) of the Prophet sallallahu ^alayhi wa salam and the anniversary of ^Ashura’, and stressed on the righteousness of Imam al-Husayn peace be upon him and his martyrdom. Students of The Islamic Education School (TIES) participated with a presentation about the bravery and heroism of some of the Companions during the Hijrah. The beautiful voices and tunes of the AICP Chanting Group filled the air and the hearts
with happiness and longing for the Prophet and Lady Fatimah the mother of Imam alHusayn – may Allah raise their ranks. The Association of Islamic Charitable Projects (AICP) thanks all those who attended and those who volunteered in a night of celebration filled with Islamic chanting and benefiting speeches. The AICP, through its speakers, wished the Muslim Community and the Muslim Nation as a whole a tranquil and peaceable year.

“How Many Times Do I Have to Tell You?”
By Pam Nicholson, Oh, the weariness that can result from repeating the same request for the millionth time. Why, oh why, doesn’t she just DO IT the first time you ask? Is there a problem with her hearing or should you just give up and do the task yourself? In many homes, asking these questions becomes a pattern which is repeated many times each day. This causes frustration and anger, which can damage your relationship with your child. The bad news: This lack of response to parents’ requests is part of typical child development. The good news: There are healthy, practical parenting tools to consider that may save your voice, your energy, and your relationship with your children. Children are a Work in Progress They have not yet reached the point of fully recognizing the needs of others, or for that matter, their own needs. For example, they don’t understand – and really don’t care at this point in their lives – that their taking a break from playing to complete a chore will ultimately lead to their becoming responsible and good team players. Children and teens: •lack judgment: don’t understand the longterm impact of their decisions. •are impulsive: live for the moment. •are ego-centric: think primarily of themselves and their own needs and wants. As you begin to tell him for the fifth time to set the table, you can remind yourself that your child’s brain connections are still “under construction.” Increasing Cooperation Rather than nagging, you can reach for parenting tools which may decrease your irritation and increase the chances of getting your child to do what you want: 1.Give a warning. Let your child know that in five minutes he must stop what he is doing and set the table for dinner. 2.Set a timer. This can be combined with the warning so neither of you forgets what is needed. The timer functions as a “voice substitute.” 3.Use notes. Write down what must be done and by when. Be specific. “Set table by 6:00. Use plates, napkins, forks, and knives for four people.” You can leave a note in the same place each day or use your imagination. Post it on the refrigerator. Fold it into a
flying airplane. Leave it beside a snack along with a loving note, “You are the best!” 4.Share reasons. Let your child know that families work together. No one person should have to do it all. You may receive a snarky comeback such as, “Seth’s parents don’t ask him to do anything at home.” Instead of becoming angry, respond with, “Each family does things differently; this is how we do it.” 5Provide choices. Select a calm time when everyone can be present. Share a full list of daily or weekly chores. Based on ability, ask each child to choose a set number of tasks to be completed each day or week. Beside each job, write a child’s name and a specific time by which the activity must be finished. Every so often allow family members to rotate tasks. 6.Teach Skills. Make sure your child knows what is involved in completing the task. She may avoid doing the job because she does not know how to do it. At first, you may need to break the chore into steps or work with your child until she feels ready to do it on her own. Check her progress and encourage her along the way. 7.Follow through on requests. Make sure your child knows that you expect him to do what you ask and what he agreed to do. If you get side-tracked and don’t follow through with your demands, then he will learn that he doesn’t have to pay attention to what you ask him to do. Remember – you don’t have to be mean to be firm. It helps if you believe that what you are asking your child to do is important and reasonable. Beyond completing the chores, there are broader benefits. These include: •learning to meet responsibilities •showing respect to you •contributing to the family •uilding self-esteem As with most parenting tools, these don’t come with guaranteed success. Furthermore, results are best measured over time, so don’t give up. Try one tool for a couple of weeks to see how it works. Stay calm. Be firm. When you do need to repeat your request, move near your child and become like a “broken record,” asking again and again, without getting louder. Don’t stop until she does what you are asking! Make some chores fun! Celebrate together when the task is done well or on time. When your child feels appreciated, he is often more willing to listen to your directions. And don’t make time at home all about chores. Your child may begin to become “parent deaf” if you are always fussing at him to do things. Work with your child so you can decrease the use of that tiresome question, “How many times do I have to tell you?” Source: centerforparentingeducation.org
Do Your Children Know These Life Skills?
By Touyab Waseem Celebrity status; that awe-inspiring, much envied, ultimate goal of the ‘average’ person in society. To be admired. To be noticed. To be glorified. Is this a disease or a result of natural ambition? Is the celebrity some sort of superhuman figure, or has the person behind the status lost that bit of humanity? In this day and age the celebrity has power because of their apparent financial wealth and fame. Thus in this materialistic world it comes at no surprise that celebrities are idolised due to the emphasis in society on money and one’s reputation among their peers. Movie stars, sports people, music idols are all grossly overpaid as we know. In a world of marketing and image theirs is the prosperity easily gained. Then we have the source of their fame: the media. That widely despised yet hugely popular source of information documenting the world’s trials and tribulations. They are determined to undermine people one day and exaggerate their praise the next. The question I ask myself regularly is: if the media was not there at the film premiere, at the all-important sports event, or in the lives of musicians would they be as popular? More importantly, would we care about the lives of others we deem as our equals if they are given as much coverage as us all? So the famous person becomes world renown and they have their moment in the spotlight. After that, they are forgotten until they improvise with a new image more “in with the times” or failing that using self degradation as a method of self-promotion. Do we really want this as the example for living our lives? We shape our own image to go along with the current fashion yet we don’t get any recognition. In fact we try to fit in with the crowd in an effort to be or look normal whilst we also aspire to have the fame and fortune as the well-documented persons of the world. Now we are contradicting ourselves.
Behind all the glitz and the glamour one has to look through to the heart of the wellknown person’s life. They are not allowed privacy, something everyone needs to stay sane. Their quality of life is determined by everyone else but themselves, causing insecurity. They frequently go down the extreme party lifestyle, usually resorting to drugs and many sordid activities usually well documented by their long lost friend the media. Theirs is the life of insecurity, instability, and most importantly discontent. Let’s face it; we can all wear a smile when there’s a camera crying for our attention. We can all put a brave face on our lives when we fear for the judgement others will come to on our lives. The life of a celebrity is not as it seems, my friends. Now let me move onto a positive solution. We have been rewarded with the greatest example humanity has ever known, even acknowledged as the most influential figure of the previous millennium by a western poll. The Prophet Muhammad (saw) was the person for whom this world was created. The perfect human, he needed no marketing for anybody to know of his qualities. A man who was evidently far superior yet taught humility and sought more to relate to humanity than seek reverence and elevation. If there was ever an example for us to appreciate and follow, we must realise that we have been given one already. His is the peaceful life of contentment, prayer, contemplation, wisdom and above all, endless praise of Allah. We were given the word of Allah, then the example for which to abide by. No matter how many times this simple sentence is repeated we are still blind to it, proving the ignorance of us all. The celebrity life is very a difficult goal to attain, yet to follow the example of the Prophet (saw) is merely a matter of choice. I will leave you the readers to decide which is the easiest and which is the most rewarding in this life and the Hereafter

What is Happiness?
By:Shabnam Khan Family Counsellor Happiness, many of us believe is linked to wealth and status. We have traditionally measured happiness through our accumulation of possessions: trendy clothes, fine jewelry, homes in the best neighborhoods and many more. These are the things we work for and there’s nothing wrong with that. It is the time to carefully examine the lifestyle we have accepted in the past, but are now questioning. It is time to ask why most of our population lives in the constant state of exhaustion. Is this “balance” ? Where has the vital energy in our bodies and souls
gone? If we seek true happiness, we must first explore how our world has become victimized by fear. On some level, most people live in the constant state of anxiety and fear which affects their mental, physical and spiritual health. Individuals cannot experience true happiness without sense of personal power in their lives. How can we restore our own sense of authentic power within ourselves? Our challenge is to explore the concept of power as force (power over) and the power as strength (power with). It is impor-
tant we make the distinctive between the self-serving, destructive power of domination and greed. Opportunities for true happiness, balance and strength exist in every minute of the day, but most of us have lost the ability to recognize the happiness waiting to be discovered in the simple moments of our lives. Happiness is your natural gift. Life does gets busy and sooner or later our lives are out of balance. This is the time to stop being a victim of our lives and make choices that will create an intentional life of happiness. Happiness is living in a proactive way because you have made the decision to live every day of your life as if each experience is a class in the classroom called life. Choosing happiness is about being a hero of your life, not the victim. Happy people have an attitude of gratitude no matter what circumstances they face. Happiness is inextricably linked to gratitude and reverence for life. Happiness is the ability to receive love and to surrender to love. Each day you discover happiness in any form, it will make your life precious and more sacred. Remember, being happy is an healthy choice, not only for yourself but also for people around you. True happiness is an sustainable piece of art. For any inquiries please email me at shabnam@skcounselling.ca

When any child is born, he or she learns to be son
or daughter first. They have family genes In them . the family atmosphere at home , interaction of parents with other family members , Family values and principals have great effect on children in their early years , which stays with them The children may not fully understand what is happening in the house ,the problems or tensions but They can sense it , the mood and behavior of parents has its impact on their unconscious mind. Second phase The child goes to school. They come in contact with different children with different family background. The different way of life even in the same community pops up many questions and discussions why Why not. They go to university, which is
larger exposure to them , what rules they used to accept Obediently , now they start not obeying them or questioning them , arguing more then before Why not , is the attitude sometimes .it becomes difficult for parents to explain. The peer pressure , outside influence , change in the social ways of life etc affects people differently Conflicts starts .In this modern era of technology things are, knowledge is just a fingertip far, click it on computer, google it , phones are smart phones , but to differentiate what is right for oneself and what not is difficult. It is easy for youth to adopt new thoughts , lifestyles, values but its not same for parents. Third phase The children are grownups ,they want to live their life on their terms which may or may not be Approved by family….even society. There are crash courses for many things but there is no such course a how to be good parents or How to be good children , this one learns and improves day by day , as and when To be continued…..

24 SPORTS Dubai a great advert for Tests - Waqar Muharrum 16, 1437 October 30, 2015
Inside two weeks, the UAE has hosted two dramatic Test matches showing the full flavour of longest format of the game. In Abu Dhabi, England almost pulled off victory on the final day but fading light meant the Test ended as a thrilling draw. In Dubai, it was Pakistan chasing a win into the dying moments, as they overcame England’s extraordinary resilience with just 6.3 overs remaining in the day. The venues in the UAE, the second home of Pakistan cricket, have previously been criticised as unhelpful for Tests, due to pitches being unresponsive - a charge that was laid at Abu Dhabi despite the exciting finish. However, Pakistan’s head coach, Waqar Younis, said that the fascinating day five in Dubai was a great advert for Test cricket and the format is very much alive and well. “The last day of the Test match was a good advert for the game, [although] maybe not for us,” Younis said. “I think a Test match going the full distance is an outstanding thing for the game. I think the game of Test cricket won on Monday. I don’t think Test cricket’s future is bleak in
any way. Test cricket is the actual cricket and the way Test cricket is going, I think we should appreciate it and there are no dangers to it.” England’s Adil Rashid and Mark Wood shared a 55-run stand for the ninth wicket to frustrate Pakistan in Dubai on Monday, batting for 29.2 overs to stretch the game out towards dusk. Younis applauded both Pakistan and England for their part in the spectacle. “Credit to the boys the way they played the Test, bowlers gave their best and credit must also be given to England, the way they showed resistance,” he said. “Overall the cricket was very good and being 1-0 up is always very handy and we will go [to Sharjah] with same morale and resolve to make it 2-0. I think the way England put up the fight in Dubai on the last day confirmed that they are capable in any conditions, spin or pace, they have got this knack that they are a good team so we don’t have to down our cards in any way.” Pakistan will play their eighth Test match of the year when concluding the series with England, which will be followed by eight
months without a Test. The average number of Tests Pakistan play a year is 7-8, comparatively less than India, Australia and England. The situation is compounded by the country being isolated from hosting international cricket at home over security and safety concerns. “That’s an issue, that we play less Test cricket, it has been discussed with the officials as well,” Waqar said. “If you look worldwide, all top teams play 1518 Tests every year and we play six to eight and maximum we play ten and I think that needs to be improved.” Pakistan have been playing in UAE for five years now and the PCB is involved in the pitch preparation process. However, it is understood that the pitch in Abu Dhabi didn’t meet Pakistan’s requirements. Team management had given instructions for a turning track but there was barely any assistance for any of the bowlers; in Dubai, the strip was shaved of grass to make it a turning track. In Sharjah, the pitch is traditionally known as a flat one with but recently the soil has been changed and Waqar remained unsure what to ex-
The U.K. Serious Fraud Office is looking into possible money laundering in relation to FIFA, but has largely ruled out a wider probe of soccer’s governing body, the agency’s director told lawmakers. “Nothing has emerged so far that provides a U.K. jurisdictional nexus and would merit an SFO investigation,” David Green said at a U.K. Parliament hearing in London Tuesday. But “we are still examining issues around possible money laundering” and have received some information recently. Green disclosed the probe as lawmakers grilled him over the U.K. agency’s inaction on corruption at FIFA as at least 14 soccer executives were
indicted by the U.S. Swiss prosecutors have since joined the probe, leading to the investigation and suspension of FIFA President Joseph “Sepp” Blatter. “If the FBI are investigating what they call the World Cup of fraud the SFO seems to be playing in the long leagues here,” said Damian Collins, a Conservative lawmaker. A spokeswoman for FIFA in Zurich didn’t immediately respond to a phone call seeking comment. The SFO, which specializes in white-collar crime cases, looked into events surrounding the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups that were awarded to Russia and Qatar. So far, the agency has
found no basis to justify a criminal investigation in light of FIFA being based in Switzerland and incorporated under Swiss law, said Green. “It wouldn’t make sense, it seemed to me, to try and break off a small fragment of conduct, if that were possible, just to have an SFO investigation,” Green said. But “there’s a part of this picture that still remains very much alive” in regards to possible money laundering, he said. Asked why the agency hadn’t done more to assist other countries with their investigations into FIFA, Green said the agency was ready to help, but wasn’t going to proactively seek a role in other probes. The SFO first became

pect from the pitch. Pakistan has no formal training on Wednesday but the team management are likely to visit the venue in the morning to assess the pitch and the condition. “Our effort is that, since this is our home series, we have to have our strength,” said Waqar. “In Sharjah there is some spin and reverse swing but traditionally it’s a flat pitch. What I have heard is that they have changed the soil so let’s see, but we have to keep our strategy intact.” Source: Cricinfo
aware of the U.S. investigation in November 2014, said Green, but was told by U.S. authorities they wouldn’t comment on their investigation. The SFO was handed 1,687 documents by the English Football Association in March, followed by more documents provided in July, and has a team of five people going through them, said Green.
