A senior Bank of Canada official says it will likely take more than two years for the country’s economy to fully adjust to the commodity price shock. Speaking to an Edmonton business audience, deputy governor Lynn Patterson warned that the impact of loss of income to thousands of resource sector workers has yet to work its way through the economy. “Not only do these jobs pay well, they also tend to call for longer work days and, therefore, a greater number of hours worked. For example, in 2014, average hourly earnings and average hours worked in the resource sector were, respectively, about 40 per cent and 25 per cent higher than the national average,” she said. She predicts a lowering of aggregate household incomes throughout Canada as a result. That will extend into 2017, slowing consumer spending and putting a drag on growth. “Adjustments to large negative shocks take time. Although painful for many, the shifts are signs of a dynamic economy,” Patterson said. Similarly, the impact of a falling Canadian dollar that resulted from low commodity prices

Pakistan’s genuine complaint is India has been fomenting insurgency throughout the country in general but in Baluchistan and Karachi in particular. Last September, three dossiers containing proof of Indian involvement in terrorist activities in Pakistan were handed over to the United Nations. Yet, it seems the never-ending tale is here to stay, God Forbid! The Peshawar carnage still haunts us, now Lahore is hit; the deadly momentum shows the ferocious terrorists still are roaming around to ensure the vulnerable Pakistan stays in” bending backward mode.” Gulshan-i-Iqbal Park in Lahore was overcrowded with families on the Easter Sunday, spending their leisure time for picnic, boating, taking joy rides in electric gondolas. Unfortunately, the place was riddled with human flesh and blood. The TTP faction/splinter group Jamaatul Ahrar claimed responsibility for killing innocent Muslims and Christians who were out merry making. A slap on the victory of Zarb-i-Azab is embarrassment. This suggests the long fight against militancy has entered an uncertain new phase. The highly professional Pak Military y ggives ggo-ahead for Punjab j opp eration after Lahore carnage to finish off the remainder network. SPY CAPTURED: On March 24, 2016 The Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan arrested Indian spy “Kul Bhushan Yadav” an undercover RAW agent from Baluchistan, Pak-Afghan border where he was working with insurgents. According to the details of interrogations issued by Interior Ministry, Bhushan – bearing Indian Navy ID 41588Z – had been working for RAW since 2013. He had a passport on which his name appeared as ‘Hussain Mubarak Patel’ (fictitious name) and he was issued an Iranian visa on it. Pak Interior min-

istry says: Indian spy enters Baluchistan by route of Iran and he’s continuously in contact with Haji Baloch. Chief Minister of Baluchistan- Sarfaraz Bugti said: ” Bhushan was working for Indian spy agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), and was in contact with Baloch separatists and terrorists fuelling sectarian violence in the province.” “The Indian spy was involved in financially supporting terrorists and also confessed to his involvement in Karachi unrest,” Bugti added. Bhushan used local people in carrying out several terrorist activities and was conspiring to separate Balochistan and Karachi from the rest of Pakistan. He was earlier deputed to Chabahar Iranian port then he entered in Balochistan. He was working as training commander for Baloch separatist leader Dr Allah Nazar Baloch and also used fake name like Mubarak Hussain, Hasan Baloch and Imdad Ullah. He also helped in Baloch separatist in moving to Afghanistan. Bhushan Yadav also confesses that he was trying to harm Pak-China Economic Corridor which will transform the economy of Pakistan and help bridge Pakistan’s power shortfall. Apart from this Former D.G. ISI Ahmed Shuja Pasha in 2010 narrated: “Russia, India and U.A.E. are behind the unrest in Baluchistan because if Gawadar port gets completed and become functional, Dubai will face extreme loss which can never be estimated. RAW maintains presence of its operatives in Baluchistan and Karachi as part of its plan to destabilize Pakistan, disclosed the suspected Indian spy arrested from Baluchistan. Kul Bushshan Yadav is said to have told the investigators that more Indian spies were present in Karachi and different parts of the Baluchistan. He told investigators that he had met Ba-
loch several times, sometimes for planning sectarian violence in Karachi and the rest of Sindh. video of Yadav confessing to Indian (RAW) involvement in Balochistan separatist activities in Pakistan. What we know so far about Kulbushan Yadav: He is the contact man for Anil Kumar Gupta, the joint secretary of RAW, and his other operatives in Pakistan. He was tasked to disrupt development of CPEC, with Gwadar port as a special target. Yadav is still a serving officer in the Indian Navy and will be due for retirement in 2022. He started carrying out intelligence based operation in 2002 and in 2003 Yadav established a small business in Chabahar in Iran. Yadav admits directing various activities in Karachi and Balochistan at the behest of RAW. He was involved in activities of anti-national or terrorist nature. PATHANKOT, Mar 29 (UNI) Joint Investigation Team(JIT) from Pakistan arrived here from New Delhi to visit the airbase which was the target of terror attack on January 2 in which seven Indian security personnel were killed. Pakistani team is asking for documents and evidence related to terrorist attack on Indian air base. The JIT has been given only limited access to the airbase. It will examine 17 civilian witnesses. It is also expected to examine SP Pathankot Salwainder Singh. Strict security has been mounted and all sensitive areas have been barricaded. The technical areas of the base will be out of bounds. h t t p : / / w w w. u n i i n d i a . c o m / pakistan-team-visits-airbasecong-aap-activists-hold-protestagainst-visit/states/news/429654. html#iHzQI1w5YrhcsSw1.99) Now, Pakistan must seriously pursue the matter of the Indian spy with the Indian government in a
professional manner .since the Indian spy has been captured on Pakistan soil in an area wracked by a long-running insurgency, it’s a very serious threat indeed. Furthermore, Indian financing and sponsoring terrorism inside Pakistan through Afghanistan and Iran has to stop right away in the interest of peace. Blaming Islam for terror activity actually is aimed at defaming it. Obviously, terrorists have no religion as they are war-lords for Hire who are criminal by nature. Pakistan needs to strictly supervise the development of Pak-China corridor. The said project needs military cover beyond doubt. Recommended: Bi-lateral trade between the two arch rivals can be solidified after the core issue of Kashmir is decided as per the UN resolutions which were shelved because of inaction on the part of India. Surely, the military armed forces are part of the security apparatus, thus are required to follow the direction set by the rulers. Nevertheless, the rulers are expected to show some leadership and capacity when it comes to security lapses. Civil armed forces must be trained enough to step in to defuse the deteriorating condition. Islamabad must be persistent in repulsing RAW involvement through the World forum. No ambiguity is left: Pak Govt airs video of Indian spy py admitting g involvement in Balochistan insurgency g y Good thing is Yadav’s video has gone viral and is there for the whole world to see. Indian Government has lost all credibility in light of the hard evidence. Better, if India gets out of denial mode sooner the better. Enough is enough, let’s move forward only for the sake of local and regional peace and prosperity.

Indian spy Kulbhushan Yadav, who was detained by the Pakistani authorities last week, has confessed to the Indian secret agency RAW’s involvement in destabilizing Pakistan in a video aired during a joint press conference by the military and civil leadership of the country on Tuesday. Yadav can be seen in the video admitting that he is an active officer of the Indian Navy and was working in Pakistan at the behest of RAW. The video was shown to the media in a joint conference held here by DG Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt-Gen Asim Bajwa and Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid among other officials. Yadav confessed that he launched a covert operation against Pakistan from the Iranian port of Chahbahar, for which he used to take instructions from RAW’s joint secretary Anil
Gupta. The detained Indian spy also admitted that RAW had been funding the Baloch separatists for the Balochistan insurgency. “I am still a serving officer in the Indian Navy and will be due for retirement in 2022,” said Yadav. “By 2002, I commenced intelligence operations. In 2003, I established a small business in Chabahar in Iran. As I was able to achieve undetected existence and visits to Karachi in 2003 and 2004 and, having done some basic assignments within India for RAW, I was picked up by RAW in 2013,” he added. The Indian spy said that he has been directing various activities in Karachi and Balochistan at the behest of RAW since 2013. He also confessed of playing a role in deteriorating law and order situation of Karachi. “These activities have been of anti-national or terrorist nature which resulted in the killing and wounding of Pakistani citizens.” The capture of the RAW agent is the latest evidence of Islamabad’s claim that the neighbouring country is actively trying to destabilize Pakistan. Kulbhushan Yadav was arrested by a Pakistan’s intelligence agency in Balochistan last week and he was later shifted to Islamabad for investigation. During preliminary investigations, the undercover Indian agent had revealed that his main agenda was to sabotage the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) through propaganda and to create disharmony among the Baloch nationalist political parties. LAHORE (Dunya News) – Banned organization Jamaat-ulAhrar, a faction of the Taliban, which once declared loyalty to the “Islamic State” movement (IS) has claimed the responsibility for the suicide attack in Lahore’s Gulshan-eIqbal Park on Sunday in which 72 persons, mostly children and women, were killed and more than 300 were injured. Dunya News has obtained the picture of alleged suicide bomber Salahudin which was released by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar on Monday night. The Trudeau government launched its sales pitch in support of a deficit-fuelled budget, insisting the budget could still return to balance if the plan succeeds in boosting the Canadian economy. Ottawa says the budget is built on cautious projections for economic growth and that even small gains in the economy over the coming years could be enough to erase the deficit within five years. The government received some good news on Wednesday in the form of a new quarterly economic forecast from TD Economics, which includes an upward revision of growth forecasts based partly on the budget, but primarily on more recent positive economic data, including trade figures. TD raised its 2016 GDP forecast to 1.9 per cent from 1.7 per cent and its 2017 forecast to 2 per cent from 1.8 per cent. Those forecasts are significantly more positive than the forecasts used to underpin Finance Minister Bill Morneau’s budget numbers. Canada’s growth rate is largely influenced by factors outside of Ottawa’s control, particularly the health of the U.S. economy, but economists say the budget measures will have at least a small positive impact on the economy over the coming years. The budget’s bottom line includes a $6-billion-a-year adjustment for risk that has the effect of assuming growth of just 1 per cent in 2016. As a rule of thumb, the budget says a one-year, onepercentage-point change in GDP would lead to a $5-billion change to the bottom line. The morning after the budget began with Mr. Morneau speaking to a business audience in Ottawa, while Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appeared as a radio guest with the CBC, a Crown corporation that received an extra $150-million a year in the budget. Mr. Trudeau said recent history has shown that private-sector forecasts often overestimate future economic growth and so it makes sense to base the budget on a forecast that is below the consensus of economists. Stronger growth could lead to a balanced budget, but Mr. Trudeau argued against setting a hard target. “When we look at what happens with greater growth in our economy is we get to balance in the coming five years. There is a track to that if we increase the growth in the economy. That’s why this budget is focused on creating growth,” he said. He declined to make a clear pledge on when the books will be balanced. “That depends entirely on the kind of growth that we’re investing in creating right now and how the economy
Passengers and crew members of the hih jacked EgyptAir flight MS181 arrived in Cairo on Tuesday night after the hijacker was arrested at Cyprus’ Larnaca airport following a five-hour standoff. The plane was flying from Alexandria to Cairo when it was hijacked and forced to land in Cyprus on Tuesday morning. The motive of the hijacker, who was wearing a fake suicide explosives belt, remained unclear. Plane captain Omar Al-Gamal briefly spoke to the media before exiting Cairo International Airport’s arrival hall. “Thank God that we are fine and all the passengers are fine. The man was arrested and it’s all over, thank God,” said Al Gamal. The passengers and crew were

responds. We’re being absolutely open and transparent with Canadians, the way we promised to be, not to try and force ourselves back to balance to keep an electoral promise but to respond to what the economy actually needs,” he said. Mr. Morneau suggested that better-than-budgeted economic growth could be a source of funding for further measures that were mentioned in the budget but did not receive new money, such as ongoing discussions related to health care, innovation and defence. The minister played down concerns about the plan to run a $29.4-billion deficit – three times the maximum size the Liberals promised during the election – insisting that with a boost in growth, the budget will return to balance in “approximately” five years. “What we’re trying to do with Canadians is say we’re being very prudent in our estimates today and with the appropriate investments, we can have an improved situation tomorrow and that will allow us to lower our net-debt-to-GDP [ratio],” he said. Neither Mr. Morneau nor the Prime Minister faced opposition questions related to their government’s first budget because the House of Commons adjourned early due to the sudden death of Conservative MP Jim Hillyer. The House is scheduled to sit on Thursday before taking a two-week recess and returning April 11. Derek Burleton, TD’s deputy chief economist, said the budget’s assumptions for growth are clearly below the current consensus forecast of private-sector economists. “They’ve used some fairly cautious assumptions. I think they’ve set the bar low with the hope that the actual economic performance will leap above it, so that could give them more leeway,” he said in an interview. “They could find themselves ahead of plan and that could open the door to lower deficits or higher spending.” Economists with Bank of America Merrill Lynch reported Wednesday that they were also increasing their projections for Canadian GDP growth – to 1.7 per cent for 2016 and 1.9 per cent for 2017 – partly because the budget will provide “marginally” more stimulus in the short term than expected. They also noted that the Bank of Canada’s forecast of 1.4-per-cent growth this year will likely be revised upward in light of the measures in the budget. Bay Street economists had been encouraging the new government to run deficits over the coming years to spur economic growth, and those same economists were generally pleased with the Liberal plan. However, some economists have reacted negatively to the size of the deficits and the lack of a clear plan to return to balance. “Debt-toGDP ratios make a lousy fiscal anchor. Many unforeseen factors could make the ratio rise rapidly,” Alexandre Laurin, director of research for the C.D. Howe Institute, warned in a written reaction to the budget. “The government is wrong to make the return to budget balance conditional on strong economic growth. Population aging is already taking its toll on long-term projections, and too many unforeseen events can derail the fiscal path. Source: Globe and Mail
unharmed. Eighty-one h people, including 21 foreigners and 15 crew, were on board the Airbus 320, Egypt’s Civil Aviation Ministry said in a statement. Many Egyptians took to social media on Tuesday and made light of the hijacking, but passengers told Al Jazeera that they feared for their lives. Passenger Farrah el-Dibany told Al Jazeera that it took a while for those aboard to realise that they were taken hostage. “It was the moment that we saw we were flying over sea ... I was horrified,” she said. “That’s when we realised something was wrong but nobody imagined that it could be that kind of thing. “Then, one of the cabin crew passed by all of the passengers and collected all the passports
An Israeli military court says evidence is “inconclusive” against one of its soldiers who was caught on camera shooting dead a wounded Palestinian. Lieutenant Colonel Ronen Shor, the judge, said on Tuesday there is “reasonable doubt” about the circumstances of the shooting “given the complexity of the events” surrounding a stabbing incident and the killing that followed. Shor also ruled the soldier will be held in custody for two more days. Prosecutors earlier said the shooting was “intentional” and asked the court to extend the soldier’s detention until April 7 while the investigation is ongoing. But the judge said he can only be held until Thursday. The case has sparked anger and political tensions with many Palestinians saying the shooting of 21-year-old Abed al-Fattah proved their claims that Israel is guilty of using excessive force and carrying out extrajudicial killings. Fattah and another Palestinian were accused of stabbing an Israeli soldier in the occupied West Bank last week. During the incident Fattah was shot and wounded, while his partner Ramzi Aziz al-Qasrawi was killed instantly. As Fattah was laying on the ground, an Israeli soldier was captured on camera raising his firearm and shooting him in the head, killing him. “I’m still taken by surprise by the act of the shooting,” Abu Shamsyeh, a Palestinian who witnessed and videotaped the killing, told Al Jazeera. Shamsyeh said he and his family are receiving threats after the publication of his video. The shooting of Fattah has been condemned by the UN as a “gruesome, immoral and unjust act”. The identity of the 19-yearold soldier and that of his family remained secret under a gag order, granted at the request of his lawyers. On Tuesday, protesters gathered outside the military court and called for his release. Far-right politicians have also defended the soldier, and members of his family said he was being publicly “lynched” and would not receive a fair trial.
Ex-foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman, currently a member of the opposition, was among those in court in support of the soldier and to “balance the crude intervention of the prime minister and defence minister” in the process, as he told reporters after the hearing. “I’m not determining if [the soldier’s] conduct was correct or wrong, what’s clear is I prefer a soldier who made a mistake and stayed alive over a soldier who hesitates and is murdered by a terrorist,” Lieberman said. About a dozen of the soldier’s family members were also in the public gallery, some of them in tears. Top military brass have condemned his behaviour and Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon pledged the incident will be treated with the “utmost severity”. Prosecutor Lieutenant Colonel Adoram Rigler told the court on Tuesday there were “contradictions” in the soldier’s version of events. “The suspicion emanating from the investigation is that the shooting was carried out intentionally and without need,” said Rigler. Defence lawyers said the Palestinian could have had an explosive device, even though he had reportedly been checked for a suicide belt before the shooting. Near-daily violence since October has killed 206 Palestinians and 29 Israelis. Source: Al-Jazeera
OIL SHOCK.... Cont from Page 1 will take more time to take effect. The weaker dollar both makes Canadian exports cheaper and boosts the Canadian-dollar revenues of non-commodity exporters that price their goods in U.S. dollars, she said. It will eventually lead to a boost in non-commodity exports, but only where the economy rebuilds capacity lost during the boom years when the dollar was high, Patterson added. Patterson said the Canadian economy will find “a new balance,” several years from now, but said she did not expect the commodity sector to regain the full strength it had in 2014. Instead, its importance to the economy will decline toward its pre-boom level. “By 2020, the sector could account for roughly 40 per cent of exports, compared with about 50 per cent in 2014. Similarly, the sector’s share of business investment could fall to without giving any reason. They didn’t say by who, or what the demands were, or where we were heading. “It was a horrifying moment,” el-Dibany said. Conflicting theories emerged about the motives of the hijacker, the 59-year-old Egyptian identified as Seif el-Din Mustafa. A senior Cypriot official said Mustafa seemed unstable and the incident did not appear to be politically motivated. The Cypriot state broadcaster said he had demanded the release of women prisoners in Egypt. “From the search of the aircraft, no explosives were found - not on the 59-year-old

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah(RA) who said that the Messenger of Allah said:Allah said: Sons of Adam inveigh against [the vicissitudes of] Time, and I am Time, in My hand is the night and the day (1). (1) As the Almighty is the Ordainer of all things, to inveigh against misfortunes that are part of Time is tantamount to inveighing against Him. It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Muslim)..
Humility is key to winning Allah’s favors GREATNESS belongs to Allah alone. He is in control of all the affairs of every single thing created. He commands and prohibits, creates and provides, gives and takes. He raises and lowers people’s status, alternates night and day, causes nations to rise and fall, so that one nation vanishes and another emerges. His command and decree are carried out throughout the heavens and on earth, in the oceans and in the air. Human beings are just a creation of Allah, a creation which is pretty insignificant in comparison to the unimaginably vast universe. In a Hadith Qudsi, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Allah the Almighty said: ‘Pride is My cloak and greatness is My garment, so whoever competes with Me regarding these two will be thrown into the Hellfire’.” (Abu Dawud, 4090) Anyone who understands this will realize that our real status in the life of this world is only that of servants of Allah and this understanding gives root to the beautiful quality of humility which is one of the greatest blessings that Allah could bestow upon His servant because when a person becomes humble, he acknowledges his weaknesses and defects and submits wholeheartedly to the rulings of Allah and Allah in turn raises his status in both worlds. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “…No one humbles himself before Allah but Allah will raise him (in status).” (Muslim) Humility makes a believer accept and believe in the greatness of Allah and makes him turn to Him sincerely by submitting to
His commands, by taking care of His rights and also His servants’ rights. When Allah raises him in worldly status, the characteristic of humility protects a believer from self-praise, pride and feelings of superiority over others. It makes him an individual whose only concern is the pleasure of Allah and not the approval and recognition of those around him. Even though being humble and confident are characteristics that we should acquire, we must be careful not to cross the line and trip into the sins of arrogance and self-praise which are from the evil traits of the people who preceded us. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “No one who has an atom’s-weight of arrogance in his heart will enter Paradise.” A man said, “O Messenger of Allah, what if a man likes his clothes and his shoes to look good?” He said, “Allah is Beautiful and loves beauty. Arrogance means rejecting the truth and looking down on people.” (Muslim) The story of Qarun is worth mentioning here. Qarun was a man of great wealth and the owner of great possessions. It is said that when he rode anywhere, the keys to his
treasures would be carried on 60 mules. But his great fortune and status had made him haughty toward his own people and toward the truth. He refused to accept the message of Allah and instead, boasted about his possessions, while looking down at the common folk around him. Allah tells us in the Qur’an that when the knowledgeable ones around him advised him: “Do not exult. Indeed, Allah does not like the exultant. But seek, through that which Allah has given you, the home of the Hereafter; and (yet), do not forget your share of the world. And do good as Allah has done good to you. And desire not corruption in the land. Indeed, Allah does not like corrupters.” (Qur’an, 28:76-77) Qarun said: “This has been given to me only because of the knowledge I possess.” (Qur’an, 28:78) Instead of submitting to the One who gave him all that he possessed with humble gratefulness, Qarun totally ignored the favor of Allah on him and was defiantly arrogant. His arrogance brought him nothing but severe torment from the Almighty. Allah says: “And We caused the earth to swallow him and his home. And there was for him no company to aid him other than
o those t Allah, nor was hee of who (could) defend themselves.” (Qur’an, 28:81) Allah Almighty also tells us the story of Iblees in the Qur’an to warn us about this disease of arrogance and notion of superiority. Iblis was ordered by Allah to prostrate to Adam and he rejected because of his arrogance and envy toward Adam. Allah says in the Qur’an: “(Iblees said) “I am better than him. You created me from fire and creat- ed him from clay.” (Qur’an, 7:12) Allah says: “So do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him.” (Qur’an, 53:32).The Prophet (peace be upon him) even prohibited praising a person, especially while he can hear his praise. This is because such praise may encourage the praised person to overestimate himself and may lead him to be arrogant and overconfident regarding his status and deeds.A believer possessing humility knows that his knowledge, talents and abilities are all from Allah and this keeps his feet on the ground, grateful to Allah and always kind to his servants. Humility increases a believer’s self-confidence, which motivates him to do race to all that is good without putting others down. Let’s take account of ourselves, strive to fix our attitudes and be of those who humble themselves for the sake of Allah, for if we do that then Allah will raise us in status in this world and in the Hereafter, InshaAllah.
Miracle’s Public Awareness of this edition Hzt. Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, “He who has eaten from this plant (i.e., garlic) should not approach us and should not offer Salat (prayer) along with us.’’ 1702[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Anyone who eats garlic and onions or leeks should not come near our Masjid. The angels are harmed by what harms the sons of Adam.” 1732. [Sahih Muslim] Just as people don’t appreciate foul smells, neither do angels. That is why the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) told us not to go to gatherings of people and angels with bad breath. Wherever people sit to remember Allah, talk about the things that please Him, study the Quran, or pray, angels envelop people with their wings. Therefore, we should take care to clean our mouths and teeth with Miswaak before setting out for such public gatherings or any appointments. Similarly, we should make sure that our bodies are clean and our clothes are not smelly either (smoke free), so that people or angels are not disturbed by our presence. Think and practise on it!

In the words of Quaid-i-Azam: “Hindus and the Muslims belong to two different religions, philosophies, social customs and literature. They neither inter-marry nor inter-dine and, indeed, they belong to two different civilizations that are based mainly on conflicting ideas and conceptions. Their concepts on life and of life are different. It is quite clear that Hindus and Muslims derive their inspiration from different sources of history. They have different epics, different heroes and different episodes…”

By: Joshua W. Walker, Ph.D. In the span of less than two weeks, two European capitals were struck by horrendous acts of terrorism. Two European capitals lost dozens of innocent civilians to cowardly bombings. Two European capitals had their public transportation systems targeted and hospitals inundated with the injured and scared. One of these European capitals received significant media coverage in the United States and one did not. One of these European capitals was supported by Facebook profile filters and world monuments displaying colors in its honor, while the other has been met largely with indifference and silence. The bombings in Brussels were devastating. As with Paris only months before, they shook Western society. I grieve as I remember last month, when I stood in the international airport terminal and the Maelbeek metro station in the very spots terrorists struck. However, as I share the grief and concern for our friends and allies in Belgium, I also mourn with the people of Turkey, who have faced a spate of bombings in their own capital, as well as their treasured city of Istanbul, but without the same outpouring of support from their friends and allies. Nine days prior to the attacks in Brussels, the Turkish capital of Ankara was rocked by a suicide bombing killing 37 people. Less than a month prior, a suicide bomb in Ankara killed 30 people. Only four months before this attack, the most devastating terrorist attack in Turkish history ripped through Ankara, taking 109 souls marching for peace. Three terrorist attacks in five months just in Ankara alone and no global sympathy to show for it. Can we blame our Turkish friends for being resentful as they watch us rend our clothes over
A T T A C K S
Brussels and Paris and almost ignore the suffering of Turkish people? What explains this neglect? Americans often identify Turkey as simply another Muslim-majority state that borders Iraq and Syria, where coverage of an attack in Ankara is shrugged off as simply “business as usual. More cynically, some even suggest Ankara somehow deserved these attacks because of its regional policies or ongoing domestic struggle with Kurdish separatists. Unfortunately, these voices are now being used in Turkey to confirm a double standard that Turks have long suspected. This sentiment is unhelpful in furthering counterterrorism cooperation and intelligence gathering that requires unity, not division. What can we take away from the terrible attacks in Brussels and Turkey? The most important is that we cannot treat each attack separately or reactively. At least one of the Brussels attackers, who also might have played a part in the Paris attacks, was known to authorities in Turkey. Therefore, as European and Turkish authorities discuss cooperation over their common refugee crisis they must also proactively be working together to prevent future attacks, rather than blaming each other after the fact. This is not just a European-Turkish problem, but a broader international prerogative that requires high-level attention and effort to work more collaboratively — given that counter-terrorism efforts must transcend national boundaries just like the tactics of the global jihadi networks that are now targeting us all — and America must lead in this effort. Brussels shows us that there are no boundaries for terrorists, but also that as an international community, we have the potential to come together in the face of terror.
The question of “why leads to a much more important question: What would happen if media coverage of terrorist attacks in nations like Turkey, Kenya, or Lebanon rose — not even to the same level of coverage given to the Brussels attacks, but just proportionally in terms of the number of lives lost? What would happen if Americans saw images of people running in fear wearing hijabs almost as often as they saw them running in blue jeans? If stories like that of Adel Termos, a Lebanese man who tackled a suicide bomber to save others at the cost of his own life last November in Beirut, were covered more broadly and insistently by the media, political candidates demanding a ban on the entry of Muslims to the United States, or calling for police to aggressively patrol Muslim neighborhoods, would be ridiculed rather than applauded. By both sharing and empathizing in our collective fear and courage with those we may not commonly relate to politically and culturally, we can potentially bridge the divides that are only growing in response to the inequity in coverage of terrorist attacks globally. As a country the United States has become desensitized to terrorist attacks within the Middle East. The mindset that attacks in countries outside Western European allies are the norm is an extremely dangerous perception that threatens to accomplish exactly what terrorists like the so-called Islamic State want: to broaden the divide between the United States and the people we need most to defeat these terrorists. We now must extend that same face of solidarity to others. The people of Turkey and many others deserve, at the very least, our recognition of their suffering. http://warontherocks.com/

At least 72 people were killed and hundreds injured, many of them children, when a suicide bomber blew himself up in a crowded park in Lahore on Sunday. Explosives packed with ball bearings ripped through crowds near a Gulshan Iqbal Park’s play area, leaving dozens dead or bloodied. Witnesses described children screaming as people carried the injured in their arms, while frantic relatives searched for loved ones. Javed Ali, a 35-year-old who lives opposite the park near the centre of the city, said the force of the blast shattered the windows of his home.“After 10 minutes I went outside. There was human flesh on the walls of our house. People were crying, I could hear ambulances,” he said.“It was overcrowded because of Easter, there were a lot of Christians there. It was so crowded I told my family not to go.” Doctors described frenzied scenes at hospitals, with staff treating casualties on floors and in corridors, as officials tweeted calls for blood donations. Witnesses said the wounded were first rushed to hospital in rickshaws and other vehicles before dozens of ambulances arrived on the scene.“The bomber managed to enter the park and blew himself up near the kids’ playing area where kids were on the swings,” top administration official Muhammad Usman told AFP. ‘HOUR OF GRIEF’ Death toll in Lahore park suicide blast reaches 72. Officials said the toll -- already the highest in an attack this year -- was expected to rise. A Lahore rescue official confirmed 72 people were dead, and said the number of injured stood at 340.Facebook activated its safety check system, so people could tell
S P E C I A L h were safe, but a glitch meant friends and relatives th they notifications were sent to people all over the world. The company later apologised, but some users said the error meant news of the attack spread more quickly than it might otherwise have done. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed his “grief and sorrow over the sad demise of innocent lives”. His Indian counterpart Narendra Modi telephoned to say “the people of India stand with their Pakistani brethren in this hour of grief,” state media reported. The US labelled the incident “cowardly”, while Pakistan’s Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai tweeted: “Pakistan and the world must unite. Every life is precious and must be respected and protected.” A military spokesman said intelligence agencies were chasing all leads while the government of Punjab province, of which Lahore is the capital, declared three days of mourning. Attacks targeting children have a special resonance in Pakistan, still scarred by a Taliban assault in Peshawar in 2014 that killed 150 people, mostly children. A military operation targeting insurgents was stepped up in response, and last year the death toll from militant attacks fell to its lowest since the Tehreek-e-Taliban were formed in 2007. Lahore, capital of Punjab province, has been relatively peaceful in recent years, but the insurgents have demonstrated a chilling ability to continue attacks on soft targets. In January, the TTP launched an assault on a university in Charsadda, near Peshawar, that left 21 dead and spurred a call to arm teachers.
On March 28, Imam and Khateeb Fiji Islamic Centre Maulana A.Latif Naumani called an urgent forum to condemn the terrorism in Gulshan Iqbal Park in Lahore, Pakistan. Many politicians, mainstream and ethnic media, members of religious and community associations, Consul General of Pakistan, and community members attended the forum at Fiji Islamic centre. Mr. Bilal Cheema coordinated with the media and politicians and he also conducted this forum. Maulana Naumani recited few Quran verses, and gave a dynamic speech in Urdu about the brutal attack in Lahore in which at least 72 people were killed and hundreds were injured, many of them children, when a suicide bomber blew himself up in a crowded. MP Ken Hardie, MLA Harry Bains, Dr. Muhammad Tariq, Mr. Haroon Khan, Mr. Faruuk Syed, Mr. Qasir, Mr. Joseph addressed the audience and strongly condemned this terrorist act. At the end, Maulana Naumani made a heart-touching Duaa for all Victims.
On March 29, Mr. Shahzad Nazir of the Progressive Pakistani Canadians, called a remembrance ceremony vigil at Holland Park in Surrey. The evening of ‘We are All Lahore’ was well attended by many who came together regardless of race, nationality and religion. Many politicians, civil societies, main stream and ethnic media, families, and individuals were present in cold weather. Many speakers spoke up against this brutal killing in Lahore, in which many Muslims and 17 non Muslims were killed and more than 350 were injured. Everyone shared their sorrow and pain and sent the message of love, peace and strength to the people of Pakistan.

By: Fatima Ahmed March 19th. Two hundred people gathered today at Simon Fraser University’s Surrey campus to attend the HOPE (Healing Opportunities through Prevention and Education) Project’s 2nd Annual Symposium on Mental Health and Addiction in the Muslim community. The HOPE project was formed in 2014 under the umbrella of the Muslim Food Bank and Community Services (MFBCS). The event, entitled “Bridging the Gap: Hope, Health and Healing”, included five workshops aimed at increasing awareness on mental health, facilitating community building, providing training for service providers as well as a safe space for youth, and finally, facilitating non-violent communication in a family setting. The symposium brought together community members and stakeholders, such as members of Fraser Health, Vancouver Coastal health, Recovery Houses, the VPD and West Vancouver Police Department, the RCMP, and professors from UBC’s Psychology Department and SFU’s Criminology Department. Also attending were executives from the Muslim Student Associations from both UBC and SFU. Our guest speakers this year included Dr. Sheik Hosenbocus, a child psychiatrist based in Kamloops, Ms. Nasimah Nastoh, founder of the Hamed Nastoh AntiBullying Coalition named after her teen son who committed suicide in March 2000, Ms Sana Afridi, social worker with Fraser Health and lastly, Mr Mohamed Ibrahim, an Addiction Clinician at Vancouver Coastal Health. Dr Hosenbocus highlighted that early childhood trauma and substance abuse go hand in hand, where children who are too young to effectively cope with negative emotions ultimately shun them and disconnect from their environment. Ms Nastoh brought the audience to tears as she read out loud her son’s last letter before ending his life. Afterwards, Ms Nastoh said, “My son, Hamed’s last wish was to put a stop to bullying. not about ending life, it is about ending pain. If I could give hope to youth through my presentation to save his/her life it means a lot to me.” Ms Afridi touched upon the barriers to accessing health care, particularly for mental health, that exist within the Canadian Muslim community. She encouraged the attendees to build collaborations with federal and social services in order to bridge the gap and meet the needs of the community. Mr Ibrahim gave a fascinating historical account of attitudes and practices surrounding mental health in the Islamic world, from medieval times to contemporary innovative programs such as mosque-based treatment and rehabilitation in Malaysia. As one of the fastest growing minority groups in Canada, Muslims have contributed positively to the nation for decades. However post 9/11, Muslim communities - particularly youth - have faced numerous challenges resulting in significant mental health issues that often are ignored or go unrecognized for prolonged periods. These may eventually manifest in high risk behaviors such as increased alcohol and substance abuse, with new immigrant and refugee Muslims being especially at risk. Although Canada has systems in place to address mental health and addictions in society at-large, there are few resources available which recognize the unique sociocultural context of Canadian Muslims. Today’s Symposium represented a concerted and collaborative effort to bridge gaps in Canada’s prevailing social, law enforcement, and healthcare systems and provide support to some of the nation’s most vulnerable populations - the youth. It ended on a note of confidence and indeed, hope, that together it is possible to understand the Canadian Muslim context and address the unique challenges faced by this community. blood vessels will expand. This causes intense pressure, an aching sensation and pain. Migraines vs. tension headaches: A migraine is commonly misdiagnosed as a tension headache. It’s important to know the difference between these two different types of pain; that way, you can quickly and efficiently seek the relief you want. The best way to tell the difference between these two types of headaches:
Headache like no other? If you’re suffering from pain that’s impossible to forget, it’s likely that you are suffering from a migraine. A migraine can happen quickly and the discomfort builds with each minute that passes you by. When the pain strikes, it’s all you can think about. So, let’s explore the signs and symptoms. How a migraine works: What exactly causes a migraine? The precise cause is unclear1 and for each individual person, the triggers can vary. During a migraine, the tissue surrounding your brain will become swollen and the surrounding
regular heart beat • Heart Rhythm Disorders – Irregular heart rhythms can cause the pumping function of the heart to fail. • Heart Valve Disease • Sudden Cardiac Death • Congenital Heart Disease • Heart Muscle Disease • Fluid around the heart can be caused by various types of infections. This fluid can impair heart function. • Marfan syndrome – This inherited genetic defect weakens connective tissues including those in the heart. • Heart Murmurs caused due to flow of blood from a damaged valve. *If your headache contains a moderate level of pain that is dull and pressure-like, then it’s likely a tension headache. *If your headache feels more like pounding or throbbing and you’re experiencing symptoms such as sensitivity to light or nausea, you may be experiencing a migraine. Stages of a migraine: Understanding the stages of a migraine can also help you recognize an attack. For most people, a migraine can be divided into the following four stages: *The warning phase can occur hours or days before the onset of the headache.4 This phase is generally common in people that experience frequent migraines. Within this phase,
it’s common to feel irritable, depressed, tired and to have excessive yawning or a loss of appetite. *The aura phase. This stage doesn’t occur for everyone; in fact only 1 in 4 people with migraines will have aura5. A migraine with aura will have additional symptoms (which typically occur 30 minutes or less before the headache).6 Auras vary with each individual person, but symptoms typically include: vision loss or changes in vision (such as seeing flashing or shimmering lights), hallucinations, and feelings of numbness or muscle weakness. *The headache phase. This is when your migraine will strike in full force. The pain will likely occur in the front of the head on one or both sides of the temples. The sensations can be intermittent and throb, or they can also be steady. Unfortunately, this phase can last anywhere from four to 72 hours. Throughout this time-
frame, the pain is often accompanied with nausea, irritability, dizziness and extreme sensitivity to light, sound or smells. During this phase, you’ll be most comfortable relaxing in a cool, dark and quiet place. The resolution phase. The good news is that when you reach this stage, the worst part of your migraine is behind you. Thankfully, your headache will gradually begin to fade. During this phase, it’s common to feel tired, irritable and depressed. You might also have difficulty concentrating. Source:http://www.tylenol.ca/symptoms

The way the UK’s mainstream media covers certain issues relating to Muslims and the British Islamic community’s inability to represent itself are contributing to rising Islamophobia, recent research suggests. Developed across the University of Cambridge, research conducted over 2015 led to a roundtable at the House of Lords in January that discovered an “atmosphere of rising hostility” towards the country’s 2.7 million Musilms, who comprise less than five percent of the 64 million-strong population. Meanwhile, the two factors meant more Muslims were seeking news from other sources, such as television or radio stations from their countries of origin. “British minority group disaffection with local media is encouraging their members to turn to media from their regions of origin, which may be concerning for government,” said Roxane Farmanfarmaian, principal at the university’s Centre of the International Studies of the Middle East and North Africa. Farmanfarmaian also heads the University of Cambridge-Al Jazeera Media Project, an initative independent of Al Jazeera Media Network. “Many Muslim communities don’t have media literacy,” Farmanfarmaian told Al Jazeera on Tuesday. The report - titled Media, Faith and Security: Protecting freedom of expression in religious context - found “the Muslim community’s fragmentation and lack of professional training in working with the media means it is illequipped to counter negative narratives by promoting more balanced reporting. “The outcome is a serious breakdown in the multicultural agenda.” Following recent attacks across Europe and the Middle East - including the shootings in January 2015 at the offices of the Charlie Hebdo magazine in Paris, deadly violence across the French capital in November 2015, and the twin attacks in Brussels earlier this month - Muslims tend to feel judged by the media, Farmanfarmaian added, as many equate the Islamic faith with “terror-
M E D I A
ism”. “What they expressed was that they felt they were being judged, they were in the headlines, the atmosphere of hostility was very stark,” she said. “That rises at times of crises, then it will drop... [Muslims] were not understood; the nuances were not clear. They felt they were targeted and blamed.” For example, in November following the Paris attacks, a mass-selling British tabloid claimed in an exclusive poll that one-in-five British Muslims sympathised with “jihadis”. The Sun published a picture of Mohammed Emwazi, the British executioner with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant group (ISIL, also known as ISIS) known as Jihadi John, alongside the shock headline. Britain’s press regulator censured The Sun earlier in March for the “significantly misleading” story. To combat the negative impact the media could have on Muslims and to “stem the slide towards an increasingly divided society”, the rountable discussion made 10 recommendations. The advice includes appointing a well-recognised Muslim role model as a media relations officer at the consultative level; supporting media outlets to employ community relations reporters; and getting clear definitions of “radicalisation” circulated across law and enforcement agencies while setting guidelines to protect individuals from “agency profiling”. The Right Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, Home Office Minister on the Counter-Extremism Strategy, has said he would share the findings with ministers of immigration, culture, media and sport. Miqdaad Versi, assistant secretarygeneral of the Muslim Council of Britain, one of the UK’s largest Muslim umbrella organisations, said the media and broader society needs to do more to counter “bigotry”. “We need to work together so that bigotry is slowed down, and we need to work together to challenge bigotry wherever we find it. If we don’t ... we will all be worse off,” he told Al Jazeera. He added Britain’s media lacks
inclusion, explaining that diversity in newsrooms “will always improve coverage”. A recent survey conducted in December 2015 by City University London found that 0.4 percent of British journalists identified as Muslim or Hindu, 31.6 percent were Christian, and 61.1 percent had “no religion”. Meanwhile, 0.2 percent were Black, 2.5 percent Asian, and 94 percent Caucasian. “There is an underrepresentation of Muslims working in the media,” said Versi. He added religious illiteracy was “rife” within parts of Britain’s media, which exacerbated the trend of Islamophobia. “Those who write don’t necessarily understand the con-
cepts being discussed,” he said. “We need to build awareness and improve on literacy.” He also recomended that strong regulation of the press was needed to protect communities, while citing The Sun’s headline as an example of how a story can “shape the news for days”.Source: Al-Jazeera

By:Nafisa Siddiqui I was in a gathering of friends and the hot topic of discussion was “stress” every one was furious and upset with this six letter word which is an integral part of human chemistry. They were all mad and stressed about “stress” caused by day to day life experiences they experiencing .Some complain about stress at job, some about stress caused from flood of traffic on roads and of silly drivers who don’t know how to drive in rush hours and cause stress for others. Others are stressed at their teenage child’s behavior and there studies, and their never ending demands. Some don’t know how to control their child, who is hyper and cannot sit quite for five minutes. A lot of them are overworked and stressed out juggling between chores, coping with unending demands of their children and their husband. Some are feeling stressed that in spite of working out two hours every day and being on a strict diet for almost three months have not lost an ounce of their weight. More sophisticated crowd is blaming the political and terrorized situation of the world, they complain that even reading newspaper or magazine or watching TV is so stressful. How come all of a sudden there is fuss and fascination about stress. Are we experiencing more stress in our daily life or the nature of stress is different and more dangerous? May be Increasing awareness and too much information playing a part, researches has confirmed the crucial role stress can play in causing and aggravating different disorders. There is a possibility that we are becoming more sensitive .TV ads are also targeting us .When you came home tired and exhausted after day’s work sit in front of TV and an ad pops up “if you feel, tired, weak and exhausted you must be suffering from stress that can cause, high blood pressure, insomnia and memory loss “and suggests you to ask your doctor for the medicine that is being advertised. We all talk about stress, but we are not al-
S O C I A L ways clear about what it is. This is because stress comes from both the good and the bad things that happen to us. If we did not feel any stress, we would not be alive! Stress is an unavoidable part of life, and it’s not always negative and necessarily harmful. Winning a race or the lottery can be just as stressful as losing, or even more, but this type of stress may trigger very different biological responses. Stress becomes a problem when we are not sure how to handle an event or a situation. Then worry sets in, and we feel “stressed”. Stress isn’t a condition that just comes out of the blue, like everything else in life; it is caused by something and it affects everyone, young and old, rich and poor. Stress is fact of life that we must all deal with. Sweaty hands on a first date, heart pounding when watching a scary movie, sweating forehead and heavy breathing when we are scared. It’s the body’s way of responding to any kind of demand or threat; these physical changes increase our strength, sharpen our senses and speed our reaction time, and enhance our focus. Slams on the brakes to avoid an accident are a common example. This is known as “flight or fight “spontaneous response of our body to protect our self. Stress can also help to meet challenges and increase concentration .Beyond our comfort zone, stress stops being helpful and can start causing major damage to mind and body, when this happens, stress becomes “distress”. Distress produces overreaction, confusion, poor concentration and anxiety. Chronic stress includes daily hassles like frustration at traffic jams, work overload, financial difficulties, marital arguments or family problems. There are of course, many more things that can cause stress. Emotional stress such as anger, keep building, which we hold inside ourselves
simple example is guilt and resentment which we hold toward others and ourselves, produce the same effect, and repeated experience of theses stresses can raise blood pressure, suppress the immune system, increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, speed up the aging process and leave us vulnerable to a host of mental and emotional problems. We are all different in our ability to tolerate these stresses. Some of us have thigh tolerance level than others. Stress is very similar to the stress put on a guitar string, not enough stress will produce a dull, raspy sound, and too much stress makes a shrill, annoying noise or will break the string, the right degree of stress can creates an incredib ible sound. This means th that we all need to find th the proper level of sstress that allows us to p perform optimally and m make us happy as we go th through stressful situati tion on day to day basis. According to different sstudies each individual h has an estimated 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts runn ning through their mind eevery day. Our minds ccan only handle 7-10 b bits of information at a time, no wonder we feel overwhelmed! This mind overload is the unbalance space and overwhelms the stability of our physical system. According to researchers, Canadian workplace stress is quit alarming Canadian Workplace stress statistics: Depression is becoming the leading source of disability among Canadian corporations 1 in 5 employees will have mental health issues Stress related absenteeism costs employers $3.5 billion each year (Statistics Canada 2003) Presenters costs employers $15 to $25 billion each year (Statistics Canada 2012) 40 percent of short and long-term disability claim are related to mental health 500,000 Canadian workers are absent from work each day because of mental healthrelated issues
The growing coast of health care is showing concern about stress-related disorders, main concern related to work place, work-related deaths in 21st century is quit disturbing, and almost 180,000 people in the U.K die each year from some form of stress-related illness. The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention of the United States estimates that stress account about 75% of all doctors visit. According to Occupational Health and Safety news and the National Council on compensation of insurance, up to 90% of all visits to primary care physicians are for stress-related complaints. No one can have stress free life. The only way is to deal with it so that we can counteract by learning how to produce the relaxation response. Relaxation is a state of deep rest that is the opposite of the stress response. The relaxation response puts the brakes on stress and brings body and mind back into a state of equilibrium. Here are some simple techniques that can be of benefit to relieve stress: 1. Breathing Meditation technique Deep breathing is a power full technique and it’s very simple and easy to do. a) Sit comfortably with your back straight. Put one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach. b) Breathe in through your nose. The hand on your stomach should rise. The hand on your chest should move very little. c) Exhale through your mouth, pushing out as much air as you can while contracting your abdominal muscles. The hand on your stomach should move in as you exhale, but your other hand should move very little. d) Continue to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Try to inhale enough so that your lower abdomen rises and falls. Count slowly as you exhale. 2. Rhythmic movements Physical activity like running walking, swimming dancing, is more effective when performed mindfully, means engaging our mind in the present moment. Eating healthy meals and plenty of sleep is also very help full .Using Aromatherapy oils to diffuse stress is also helpful to deal with stress.

By: Colleen Grant What are the secrets to a happy relationship? One is to stop phubbing. You know, keep your eyes on your partner, not on your smartphone. While some of these secrets may seem obvious, too often we take our loved one for granted. Consider these tips a mini relationship refresher course.Love isn’t all fairy tales and Taylor Swift songs. Researchers in clinical white lab coats have dissected just about every aspect of relationships, from communication to sex. This Valentine’s Day (and every other day of the year), use these science-backed secrets to a happy relationship to enhance your romance with that special someone. 1. Laugh together When it comes to relationship satisfaction, shared laughter is best. In a 2015 study, couples were asked to reminisce about their first meeting while researchers recorded every chuckle, giggle, and belly laugh. Couples who laughed together—rather than separately or not at all—reported better relationship quality and closeness. 2. Don’t be a phubber
L I F E S T Y L E In general, smartphones are romance kryptonite. A US survey of nearly 500 adults illustrated the impact of what researchers call partner phubbbing (phone snubbing). This can be as simple as glancing at your phone while chatting with your ppartner. Phubbing created conflict for 23 percent of couples in the study. Fortunately, the solution is simple: keep your phone out of sight at least some of the time. 3. Be honest if you’re angry Angry outbursts seem like the makings of a bad romance, so it’s no surprise that many couples try to avoid conflict. Research, however, shows that angry but honest conversations can be better for your relationship than striving to forgive and forget immediately. “The presence versus absence of conflict does not make or break a relationship,” says Denise Marigold, PhD, a relationship researcher and assistant professor at Renison University College. “It’s whether people deal with those conflicts constructively or destructively that’s more important.” 4. Fight the right way Besides being honest, happy couples tend to argue in ways that diffuse tension. This means showing humour or affection if possible and conceding when your partner makes a good point. The opposite end of the argument spectrum includes criticizing, showing contempt, and rolling your eyes. Good communication simply means being
“open, honest, and willing to be vulnerable,” says Marigold. “Truly listen to the other person’s perspective, even when it is difficult for you to do so. Listen without thinking about what point you’re going to make next.” 5. Celebrate the good times If something great happens—say, a job promotion—you want to share the news with someone. Couples can capitalize on these shared moments of everyday achievement. Research suggests that responding with enthusiasm to your partner’s good times is as important as—maybe even more important than—supporting him or her during tough times. Practice makes positive Let’s say your partner comes home and says, “I was voted to be chair of a committee at work!” Researchers suggest you can respond, “That’s great! How did it happen? What did your co-workers say? Let’s go out and celebrate!” 6. Pay attention to birth order Opposites might actually attract—at least when it comes to birth order. Some psychologists believe that first-born and last-born children make the happiest couples. The idea is that firstborns tend to be organized leaders who like to nurture others, making them an ideal match for easygoing lastborns, who enjoy being taken care of. 7. Cultivate friendships with other couples A strong network of friends doesn’t just make you happier and help you live longer; it can also benefit your relationship. After conducting more than 400 interviews, researchers concluded that couples who befriend other couples experience a boost in relationship happiness. 8. Get busy (out and about)
Bored by the same old dinner and Netflix routine every Friday night? Get out of the rut. One study of married couples found that boredom strongly predicted low marriage satisfaction nine years later. New experiences activate the brain’s reward systems—not unlike the rush of new love. Make date night exciting by cooking together, attending an art show, or travelling somewhere new. 9. Be matchy-matchy Besides good communication and satisfying sex, researchers have pinpointed lifestyle habits that affect couples’ contentment. The happiest pairs tend to •share household chores •drink the same amount of alcohol •be equally thrifty or spendthrift The main takeaway is that relationships take effort. As Marigold says, “Be kind to each other, even when you feel hurt or disappointed or angry. Act in a loving way even when you don’t feel loving.”

How Clearly Do You See Yourself in the Eyes of Others? Self-Perception vs Self-Definition
By Don Neviaser, If during a variety of interactions the responses from others seem to be more negative than the messages you intended to convey, or if you sometimes feel others just don’t like you for some reason, perhaps it’s time to consider the source. Is it possible your messages and actions are not being accurately received because of your delivery? Is there perhaps something in your emotional background adding a more debasing lean to your perceptions of how others see you, and if so, might you be reacting toward them in line with these false perceptions? It can be difficult to plug into a variety of interactions when one’s true self and relative value are shrouded by selfdoubt and uncertainty. When self-perceptions are rife with self-loathing and disappointment, it can be hard for some to imagine others may actually see them in a more positive light. With such an inclusive mindset, it is not uncommon to project these same negative perceptions onto the perceptions of others resulting in varying degrees of defensive posturing; the resulting unwarranted agitation is then picked up on and reacted to by others accordingly. Ironically, negative reactions to a reaction based on false pretenses tend to simply verify and justify one’s original negative interpretations that were projected onto others in the first place. Sadly, interactions such as these damage or destroy a variety of personal and professional relationships
completely unnecessarily! Regardless of why certain negative perceptions exist, ultimately they come down to a matter of perspective, and as such, can be affectively controlled or curtailed by countermeasures designed to shift focus, belief and perception. Ironically, particularly resilient negative perceptions are actually outstanding examples of how certain perspec-
one’s self, and interactions with others, from an unbiased third party perspective to, if anything, help illuminate outward messaging such as body language. Ultimately, one must attempt to adhere and assimilate to one’s true self so as to think, feel and act from center with inner confidence and faith. An extremely effective way of doing this is to make a distinction between self-perception and
i ff and d iinfl fluence one’s ’ lif tives can affect life; a reality that can be equally utilized for life-views of a more positive nature! It would therefore make sense to counter them by incorporating the same recipe of assumption, attitude and perspective that brought them to life to begin with; powerful factors in how we see ourselves, our life and others. It is helpful to honestly and openly attempt a realistic, relative view of how one fits into the world and affects others. Perhaps try taking a step back and seeing
lf d finition. ii S lf i iis bbased d self-defi Self-perception more on an idea and can be impacted or defeated by habit, self-doubt or old negative messages. Self-definition, on the other hand, is a specific, definitive state of being in thought, feeling, action and reaction that draws from one’s true, unique inner-self and incorporates specific needs, desires, talents and abilities that allow one to rise above confining comfort zones and diminishing perspectives. Start by taking a realistic personal in-

ventory of your assets, whatever they may be, and don’t be afraid to honestly and openly ask those close to you for help. Once done, define and combine all these factors and create a visualization of this new you and the future you desire. Make specific notes that confirm, support and encourage this new mindset, including ample positive affirmations, and read them daily! Also take some time to genuiinely consider this newly defined persona iin a variety of personal or professional situuations, the more uncomfortable the bettter, and imagine what his or her thoughts, ffeelings, reactions and end results would bbe; taking care not to think or react as who yyou are now, but as who you ultimately w want to be. T The next step is to choose a day and ttime when you will stand up and make a definitive conscious decision to just ““be” who you really are, with an eye on w who you WILL be in the future! Believe tthat change is possible for you and that yyou are worthy of being happy and enjjoying life! Then simply start thinking, feeling, acting and reacting in line with this persona. The power of perspective and a healthy appreciation for life can literally make all the difference between living and existing, happiness and despair or success and failure. The sooner this change of personal perspective begins, the sooner you can start walking your true life path in line with who you really are! “The brighter you see the light in you, the brighter others will see it too.”

Friendships!
Shabnam Khan – Family Counsellor A friend is defined as a person you know well and regard with affection, trust and respect. As you get older, some of your friendships will start to change, and some may grow deeper. You might also begin to know many more people, although not all of them will be your close friends. Chances are, you will also start to spend more time with your friends and maybe talk on the phone more. Changes in relationships are natural but not always easy. Making and keeping friends can be particularly tough if you are shy or unsure of yourself. The best way to make new friends is to be involved in activities and in the community. Another way to make friends is to be friendly and helpful to other people. Talk to them, get to know them, and find out if you have something in common with them. Peer pressure can play a major role in friendships. If someone is vulnerable to peer pressure, the relationship is not balanced. Remember that you have the right and duty to stand up for what you believe is right. Express yourself with your friends. You have the freedom to say “no” if you disagree. If you are scared of losing a friendship by standing up for what you believe is right, then you are in an unstable friendship. True friends

listen to and respect each other’s opinions. Standing up for yourself may cause tension in a friendship, but it is OK as long as you have the skills to handle the situation. Remember to communicate your ideas while respecting your friend’s opinion. By mutually supporting each other, whether or not you agree, your friendship will be more stable. Tips for keeping healthy friendship: Be Supportive, Be Encouraging, Be Co-operative, Compromise, Be Considerate, Talk Openly about Disagreements, Apologize when you hurt them – few things to get you started. Having friends are important as it connects you with people and hence you can share so many common interests together instead of living in isolation!! For more information: shabnam@skcounselling.ca
“A very LOOOONG Weekend”! By Asma Ayyaz, Mortgage Broker How are you all after a long weekend? fresh? Energetic ? contented? Or simply bored? How do we pass our holidays and weekend speaks volumes about our lives and relationships. If we are looking forward before the holidays are coming and planning things with family and friends, if we have received invitations to be with friends, our life is quite normal. If we are worried Oh, what will we do when we have so much extra time, if we are sitting alone in front of TV during most of the holidays, this situation calls for serious checkups. ASAP. This shows we are not living life properly not as normal social human beings. We are all of different types and nature, different casts and creed, temperament. People still live together as one society, neighbourhood, community or a group. We live together at home, in same area, work at some place, and member in some activities. Each day we interact with other fellow human beings and still we can’t spread love, friendship?? Why does everybody live in their own cocoon, own world? Are we afraid to be judged or hurt? That means we are not same inside outside, we are trying to give different im-
By Fatima Nadeem (Grade 7) Once there was a man who made pencils. One day the Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box. “There are 5 things you need to know,” he told the pencil, “Before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil you can be.” One: “You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in someone’s hand.” Two: “You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you’ll need it to become a better pencil.” Three: “You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.” Four: “The most important part of you will always be what’s inside.” And Five: “On every surface you are used on, you must leave your mark. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write.” The pencil understood and promised to remember, and went into the box with purpose in its heart. To most people this is just a story of maybe a talking pencil or a weird old man who talked to pencils but just for a second replace the place of the pencil with yourself. These are like little “Secrets of Life” and by always remembering them, you will become the best person you can be. Let’s rephrase shall we:

You know when adults say it’s only the inside that matters, weld that’s not entirely true because in this world that does matter- but it’s still only a little bit, what’s on the inside is always going to more important than what’s on the outside” And Five: “On every surface you walk through, you must leave your mark. No matter what the situation, you must continue to do your duties. This basically means that when you leave this world what you want to be recognized. Make a difference in the world and make your contribution to the world.” Allow this parable on the pencil to encourage you to know that you are a special person and only you can fulfill the purpose to which you were born to accomplish. Never allow yourself to get discouraged and think that your life is insignificant and cannot make a change. Even if it sounds like a lot of work and even impossible but you can always achieve your goal if you work hard enough.

Pakistan coach Waqar Younis has offered to step down after the side’s poor performance at the World T20 2016 but has warned that cosmetic changes will be insufficient to address the deeper issues within Pakistan cricket. Speaking to the media in Lahore before meeting with a committee set up to look into the side’s performance, Waqar also apologised to the fans for the poor World T20 result. Pakistan won only one of the four group matches in the World T20, after a debacle in the Asia Cup in Bangladesh last month where they failed to qualify for the final. Following the team’s early exit in the Asia Cup, PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan had hinted at sweeping changes, and the board formed a special committee to monitor Pakistan’s performance. This committee is expected to submit its recommendations to the PCB chairman later this week. Waqar’s two-year contract ends in June but it is learnt that his tenure with the side is unlikely to be extended. “I apologise to the whole nation, to all of you and to all the people who were at the airport chanting against us, all the people at the NCA [National Cricket Academy] who look after us,” Waqar said. “I apologise to everyone. Literally, I fold my hands and request all of you to forgive us for the way we performed, it should not have been this way. Our performance should have been better, but unfortunately that didn’t happen.”
SPORTS This is Waqar’s second stint as coach, after he had guided the side in 2010-11. He had parted ways with the team in 2011 due to a rift with captain Shahid Afridi. With Waqar and Misbah-ul-Haq at the helm, Pakistan had climbed to No. 2 in the ICC Test rankings, and are currently at No. 4. Their position in the limited-overs rankings, however, has been weak. They are currently ranked No. 8 among ODI sides and No. 7 in the T20I format. The side’s last win in a T20I series came in September 2015 against Zimbabwe, and they subsequently lost series to England and New Zealand in the lead-up to the Asia Cup and the World T20. Waqar refrained from blaming individuals, and instead urged the PCB to address the deeper issues in the system. “These days there is a notion being discussed to dismiss the chairman, selectors or the coaches, but the point is whether the problems are really being understood. Are we really getting down to the problem in our country and mending it? Are we really correcting the system which needs to be rectified? “So cosmetic changes will not help. This might bring temporary relief, might make you feel that things have changed and everything is fine but I think we should think about this deeply and mark the problems,” he said. “We know where the problems are and we have to open our eyes, eradicate the politics from cricket and get things right. I
Chiefs safety Husain Abdullah retired after seven seasons Monday, joining the growing list of players who have walked away from the NFL because of health concerns. Husain had his fifth concussion this season, which sidelined him for five weeks. The 30-year-old player returned to help Kansas City beat Houston for its first post-season victory in more than two decades. “There are numerous factors in my decision with personal health being foremost,” Abdullah wrote on Instagram. “I had a lot to contemplate. My goals moving forward are to be of benefit to my family, my community, my country and hopefully the world. Having a sound mind will be vital to accomplishing these goals. The Chiefs appeared to know weeks ago that Abdullah was leaning toward retirement, moving quickly to place the
had mentioned these problems in 2015 and have put them up again. I can hope the PCB can deal with them. “We don’t need to hide anything, everything is in front of us, they way we played. It’s not like I am hiding anything. In fact, the time to sweep things under the rug is over. It is time to step up and solve problems. People have blamed me. That’s not an issue. I will go home but the problem remains. If the problem is solved by sacking me, then sack me. Not tomorrow, but today. But the problem is deeper than that.” Waqar also chose to play down the uncertainty surrounding his future in the role. “My future as coach isn’t relevant. Why is there a sense that Pakistan cricket is linked with my future? It is definitely not. I had a stint previously as well and I am here again but I may not be there in the future and someone else may come in. The point is, I am not the problem. We have to find the real problem.” Waqar has submitted his report of the tournament to the PCB chairman and it is learnt that the report covers a wide range of issues, from selection matters to the players’ capacities and the issues he has faced in last two years. While he refused to divulge information about the report, he said that most of the issues facing Pakistan cricket were in the public domain, prime among them being the lack of international cricket in country. “It’s not that roots have always been weak in
franchise tag on Eric Berry. They also have safeties Ron Parker and Daniel Sorenson on the roster, and coach Andy Reid indicated last week that Jamell Fleming would move over from cornerback. Abdullah joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Washington State, and spent four productive seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. He left in his prime to make a pilgrimage to Mecca, then returned after one season to earn a roster spot during training camp with the Chiefs. He proved to be a dependable safety for Kansas City the past three seasons. “After sitting out of football to fulfil my Hajj pilgrimage in 2012, the Chiefs were the first to call,” Abdullah said. “The three years I spent playing for KC may have been the most enjoyable football experience in my entire life.” Numerous productive players
the country ... cricket not being played here in Pakistan is one of the many problems but we have to take care of our stadiums and domestic cricket to get it going. “Yes not having international cricket in Pakistan did make an impact and disturbed the roots of cricket. Whatever you have made in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, a home away from home, isn’t really a solution. India and other countries are producing cricketers by playing at home grounds. Cricket the game isn’t for stars, it’s a game for heroes. We often mix it as you may see a star doing TV ads but cricket is played by heroes and those who play the game don’t see other things around. So we want heroes and not the stars.” Source: CricinfoWW
have indicated plans to retire this off-season, including Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson and Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo. Many of them have cited their long-term health as one reason behind their decisions. Source: Toronto Sun
