Speaking on the sidelines of the summit on Tuesday, Biden said his own presence at the event in Glasgow, Scotland, showed that “America is back” after the “America First” foreign policy approach of former President Donald Trump. “The fact that China is trying to assert, understandably, a new role in the world as a world leader – not showing up, come on!” Biden told reporters before flying out of Glasgow. “It just is a gigantic issue and they walked away. How do you do that and claim to be able to have any leadership?”

Narrated Abu Huraira (R.A): Allah’s Messenger~(SAW) said: Allah(SWT)said: Among all partners, I amthe most dispensable with association. So anyone who performs a deed in which he ascribes to Me others; I will abandon him and his act of polytheism.: by Muslim).
The Social Aspect of Islam: A Simple Lesson of Tawakkul Rights Related to Employment
O
Author: Ammar Habib
I
n regards to work and employment, Islam introduced principles and guidelines which define the relationship between the employer and the employed. The Rights of the Employed Islam enjoins that the relationship between employer and employee should be based upon principles of brotherhood, equality and dignity. The Prophet (SAW) said “Your servants are your brothers whom Allah has placed under your authority. Whoever has his brother under his authority, let him feed him from what he eats and clothe him with what he wears. Let him not burden him with more than he can bear, and if you do, then help him.” [al-Bukhari] Islam has guaranteed their right to receive wages. The Prophet ((SAW) narrated from Allah (SWT) that He said: “I will stand against three types of people on the Day of Requital: a person who swears by Me and then betrays his oath, a person who sells a free person and eats the money he gains from it, and a person who hired a workman, takes his full due [of work] from him but does not give him his right (his wages).” [al-Bukhari] It also orders that the wages be negotiated before work begins In a Hadeeth collected by Ahmad, the Prophet ()ﷺ forbade hiring a workman before negotiating his wages. Islam also commands that wages be paid immediately after the task has been completed. The Prophet ( )ﷺsaid: “Pay the workman his wages before his sweat dries.” [ibn Majaah] They are not to be given more work than they can bear; if given more than he can bear, than he should be given extra wages or help. The Prophet ((SAW)) said: “Let him also not burden him with more than he can bear, and if you do, then help him.”[al-Bukhari] In order to raise the honor and dignity of labour, the Prophet ((SAW) said that it was the best and most pure of earnings, if done through permissible means. The Prophet (SAW) said: “No person has eaten better food than that which [was bought from the wages which] his own hands toiled. Indeed David (AS), the Prophet of Allah, ate from what his own hands earned.” [al-Bukhari] To encourage manual
ne of the most fundamental pillars for Muslims is the concept of Tawakkul, which is often defined as trust and reliance in Allah. However, many people misunderstand the concept of Tawakkul. They see Tawakkul as a passive, verbal characteristic which simply involves supplicating to Allah for what we want. However, there’s an incident from Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) life that shows a clear perspective on Tawakkul. One day the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) noticed a ‘bedouin’ (desert Arab) leaving his camel without tying it, and he asked the man, “Why don’t you tie down your camel?” The ‘bedouin’ answered, “I put my trust in Allah.” The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) then said, “Tie your camel first, then put your trust in Allah.” (Tirmidhi) labour, the Prophet ( )ﷺsaid:“By Him in This is a short hadith, but it carries an imWhose Hands is my soul, if one of you portant lesson for us. If you have any kind goes and chops wood, ties it, and carries of animal, you always tie it down so that
it on his back, it is better for him than to beg people, whether they give him money or not.” [al-Bukhari] The Rights of the Employer As Islam required the employer to give the employee his due rights; the employees should also observe the rights of the employer.. ,they should carry out the work in the best manner, without delay or shortcomings. The Prophet (SAW) said: “Indeed Allah likes that if one of you performs some work, that he does it perfectly.”[Abu Ya’laa] In order to encourage people to do their assigned work properly and sincerely, Islam has made this type of wages from the best of earnings. The Prophet (SAW) said : “The best of earnings are those earned by working sincerely and properly.” [Ahmad] General Rights and Obligations Islam obligates upon Muslims to regard the conditions of their Muslim brothers, wherever they may be. The Prophets (SAW) ) said: “The believers in their love, mercy and their feeling for each other are like one body: if one part feels pains, all the other parts feel pain through fever and sleeplessness.” [Muslim] Islam orders that Muslims strive to improve their condition. The Prophet ((SAW) said: “None of you believes until lie loves for his brother what he loves for himself.” [al-Bukhari] It orders that Muslims stand by their brothers at times of crises and agony. The Prophet ((SAW) said: “The believers are like a solid structure, each one (brick) strengthens the other (and then he clasped his hands and intertwined his fingers.” [al-Bukhari] It orders that Muslims come to the aid of their brothers and assist them in times of war if they are in need. Allah (SWT) says: And if they seek your help in Religion, it is your duty to help them.. [8:72] It forbids that they be forsaken in their time of need. The Prophet ((SAW) commanded that the Muslims support their oppressed brothers. [al-Bukhari] Source: aljumuah.com
it doesn’t run off when you’re gone. However, in this hadith, the man wasn’t tying down his camel before leaving it. When Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) asked the man why he didn’t do it, the man explained that he was trusting Allah to keep his animal from running off. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) replied for the man to first tie his camel down and then put his trust in Allah. From Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) response, it’s obvious that this man didn’t understand what trusting Allah was. He thought that Tawakkul meant expecting Allah to take care of everything without the person putting forth any effort. The Prophet’s (PBUH) advice demonstrates trusting Allah (Tawakkul) isn’t just a verbal and passive trait. Instead, Tawakkul is an active trait, meaning that we show Allah our trust by taking action toward what we are trying
to accomplish. In other words, we must do our part first with our actions before trusting that Allah’s Divine help will come. To demonstrate true Tawakkul, we have to do our part first. For example, even though we believe Allah is the Giver of Life (AlMuhyi) and The Protector / Preserver / Guardian (Al-Hafiz), we have to take the necessary health precautions to keep ourselves from falling sick, such as washing our hands and exercising. We also believe Allah is The Provider (Ar-Razzaq), but we still have to go out and put forth the effort to create income. We don’t expect money to just fall from the sky. Thus, if you or I are not doing our part—if we’re not putting forth effort toward our goals through our actions, then we’re not demonstrating true Tawakkul. To expound on this point, we only need to look to the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Whenever Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) or his companions were faced with any situation, they never sat back and passively trusted Allah to take care of them. Instead, they were proactive about taking care of themselves, and they put their trust in Allah after they did everything they could do with their own actions. A great example of this is the Battle of the Trench (Ghazwat al-Khandaq). When the Muslims in Medina heard that an army of over 10,000 men was headed to crush the City of Medina, they did not just sit back and say that Allah would protect them. Instead, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Muslims showed their trust in Allah by taking action. They convened a military council, and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) let people share ideas on how they could defend themselves. It was there that Salman al-Farsi (RA) introduced the idea of building a trench around the city that could be used to hold the enemy back and even out the odds. The battle began, and the Muslims relentlessly battled and outwitted their adversaries for about thirty days. It was after Allah saw their determination and resolves that He sent in a gust of wind that wrecked the enemy camp and forced them to retreat. The lessons from this incident are that Tawakkul includes: Taking the time to properly plan Taking action on that plan

The Bayaan was based on the 12th Rabi ul Awal, the birth of Prophet Mohammad (saw) and Seerath Nabi(SAW). He quoted a few verses from Sura Fajar(89: 1-4) and asked why Allah (SWT) swore in the Quran that Wal-Fajr.He said that Allah(SWT) sent many Messengers and Prophets and their history was narrated by Prophet Mohammad(SAW). He added that the knowledge of all Angels is limited in front of our Prophet (SAW). He also referenced
Hzt Mariyam and Hzt Issa (A.S) and quoted from the works of Abu Abdullah Ibn ul Qayyim Jauzia, Ashraf Ali Thanvi, Ibn Hassaham, Ibrahim Sialkoti, Allama Waheed uz Zaman and many other writers of Seerat un Nabi(SAW). Bullay Shah Academy and Anjuman Khudam-e-Sufiya Celebrated Eid Mild un Nabi (saw)
E
id Milad ul Nabi is universally celebrated in the Muslim world with religious fervour and festivity. Bullay Shah Academy and Anjuman Khudam-e-Sufiya too observed the occasion with due respect and traditional fanfare on October 30,. The program started with the recitation of Holy Quran after which Pir Afzal Ahmed Naqshbandi led the recitation of Khatam-e-Pak and humbly offered the thawab in the court of Holy Prophet PBUH, His Children, Companions and the rest of Ummah. The occasion was marked with recitation of nasheeds in the court of Holy Prophet PBUH including those by Qari Amin, Qari Anwar Naqshbandi, Shaykh Malik, Naseer Pirzada, Malik Farasat, Rayan Ahmad, and Br. Muzammil. In his masterful and transcendent keynote speech, Qibla Pir Afzal Ahmed Naqshbandi remarked that Holy Prophet SAW was sent to the
mankind as a blessing in fulfillment of the prayer made by Prophet Abraham when he re-raised the walls of Kaaba. He enunciated that we are lucky to have been born in the Ummah of the Prophet PBUH whose care for us is symbolized by the fact that he sought forgiveness for us from Allah when his noor was created, when he physically manifested in this world and even when he was veiled from this physical world by the will of Allah. In a moving and stirring conclusion, he reminded the participants that Allah and His Angels send salutations upon Holy Prophet PBUH and orders all Muslims in Quran to do so likewise. Allah, for the sake of His Prophet PBUH, accepts the prayers of the person who sends salutations on him and makes his passing from this world easier on him, not to mention the inestimable benefits received on the Day of Judgement. Br, Bob Ibrahim delivered Thankyou
note to all guests. In the end Qari Molan a.Latif Naumani made Duaa for all Muslim Ummah. The event was noteworthy for the attendance of several non Muslims who attended to express their respect for Holy Prophet SAW. OTTAWA -- Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said his government is talking to Indigenous communities across the country about potentially temporarily raising the Canadian flags on federal buildings and on the Peace Tower in Ottawa, in order to lower them again for Remembrance Day. “We continue to work very closely with partners, with Indigenous peoples, with communities across the country. There is an understanding of how important it is to be able to lower the flags on Remembrance Day to mark our veterans, to mark people, including Indigenous peoples, who’ve stepped up to fight for Canadian values and paid the ultimate sacrifice,” Trudeau told reporters during a press conference from the COP26 Summit in Glasgow on Tuesday. “I’m confident that the conversations with Indigenous leadership on making sure we are able to lower the flags once again on Nov. 11 will come at the right solution,” Trudeau said. WASHINGTON: Pakistan has assured the international community that it ‘vigorously’ supports an inclusive political settlement in Afghanistan. In a statement to the US media, Pakistani embassy in Washington said that now was the time to stop laying “the blame for every problem in Afghanistan on Pakistan’s doorstep”. In statements to the media, and at congressional hearings, US and Afghan officials often hold Pakistan responsible for Taliban takeover of Kabul on Aug 15, days before a complete withdrawal of American and Nato troops from Afghanistan. Last month, 22 US senators moved a bill in the Senate, seeking to assess Pakistan’s alleged role in Afghanistan before and after the fall of Kabul and in recent Taliban offensive in Panjshir Valley. In an opinion piece published in The Wall Street Journal this week, a former Afghan ambassador to the United Nations, Javid Ahmad, claimed that on Aug 15 “Pakistan succeeded in enabling the Taliban takeover” and “going forward, Islamabad expects to play the dominant role” in Afghanistan. nflation is essentially when the level of prices is going up, which changes the ratio of money to goods or services. This means more money is needed to get the same amount of something or the same amount of money will get you a lower amount of something. And when a country’s supply of money increases too quickly, the value or quality of that money often decreases. Economists generally think that the increase in money supply causes the price of things to increase over a long period. In contrast, experts disagree when it comes to increase over a shorter period of time. At first glance, inflation is seen as negative and it certainly does have quite a few disadvantages. Higher inflation rates tend to lead to less investment and economic growth. It also affects countries on an international level. Lower international competitiveness leads to fewer
balance of payments. Unfortunately, inflation is also directly linked to declining incomes and reduced value of savings. If out of hand, inflation could single-handedly destroy an economy and create a vicious cycle of hyper-inflation. But on the other hand, deflation is potentially very harmful to economic growth and can lead to lower consumer spending as well. For example, if prices are lowering, consumers are encouraged to delay purchasing in hope that prices will be further lowered. So in contrast, inflation is beneficial to economic growth. Additionally, inflation in moderation reduces the value of debt whereas deflation would increase the value of debt. Consequently, moderate rates of inflation are a sign of a healthy and flourishing economy. Here in Canada, the average estimated inflation rate for 2021 was approximately 3.15% in
calculated using price increases of defined product baskets which contain products and services on which consumers spend money on every year. Canada’s inflation rate was previously well below the recommended average (around 2%) due to the recent pandemic and then saw a significant boost. This is what Conservative leader, Erin O’ Toole, promised; to restore and give our economy a boost. Pakistan’s rate all comes back to imports and exports. Due to a lack of attention to the agriculture sector of the primarily agricultural country, Pakistan is relying on imports of food – even wheat. The constant price fluctuation which fuels inflation has stuck the country in a cycle where an increase in global oil prices has made imports more expensive and therefore causing a trade deficit. Pakistan is also a receiver of foreign remit-
means the money supply has significantly increased. The reason for such a prominent difference in the two countries’ inflation rates is primarily related to consumer needs. Consumers in Pakistan may, and probably will, have different needs to those in Canada. Another thing to factor in is the economic state of the country and which stage of the economic cycle the countries are at. To be honest, it’s not likely that most countries will be on the same page when it comes to comparing economies, especially two that are so different in cultural, social, and political aspects. After the fourth wave of this pandemic dies down, it’s anticipated that Canada’s inflation rate will stabilize near the recommended rate and that our economy will also grow healthily. FBI releases declassified documents Israel launches missile attack near Syria’s Damascus on Sept. 11 attacks
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The FBI released hundreds of pages of newly declassified documents Wednesday about its long effort to explore connections between the Saudi government and the Sept. 11 attacks, revealing the scope of a strenuous but ultimately fruitless investigation whose outcome many question to this day. Agents for years investigated support given to several of the hijackers upon their arrival in the U.S., focusing in particular on whether three Saudi nationals -- including a Saudi Embassy official in Washington -- had advance knowledge of the attacks. Ultimately, investigators found insufficient evidence to charge any of the three with illegally supporting the hijackers, according to an FBI memo from May that closed out the probe and was among the more than 700 pages released Wednesday. The FBI noted in the memo that al-Qaida compartmentalized the roles within its
major attacks and “did not make the attack plans known in advance to others” for fear of word getting out. “Specifically, in relation to the 9/11 attacks, the hijackers knew there was a martyrdom operation, but did not know about the nature of the operation until shortly before the attack for operational security reasons,” the FBI memo states. The documents were the latest materials to be released under an executive order from President Joe Biden aimed at making public long-classified investigative reports related to the attacks. A separate investigative document was released on the 20th anniversary of the attacks in September. The records have long been sought by victims’ relatives as they sue in federal court in New York to try to prove that the Saudi government was complicit, something Riyadh officials have vigorously denied. The Saudi Embassy in Washington did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday, but issued a statement in September calling any allegations of complicity malicious and categorically false. Attack reportedly resulted in some material damage but there were no immediate reports of casualties. Israel has launched an aerial attack with a number of missiles targeting an area on the outskirts of the Syrian capital of Damascus, Syrian state TV said early on Wednesday, citing a military source. It added the attack resulted in some material damage. There was no immediate comment from Israeli officials. Last Saturday, Israeli also fired missiles towards the suburbs of the Syrian capital, al-
though they were intercepted by Syria’s air defences. On October 14, an Israeli air raid on Iranian positions in central Syria also killed nine fighters allied to the Syrian government. The attacks came days after Syria accused Israel of carrying out an attack in the country’s south. Israel, alarmed by Iran’s growing regional influence and military presence in Syria, has launched hundreds of attacks in Syria over the years but rarely acknowledges or discusses such operations. The attacks on Syria usually happen during the night. Israel has acknowledged it is targeting bases, weapon convoys and facilities linked to Iran-allied militias, such as the powerful Lebanese Hezbollah group. It is also targeting arms shipments believed to be bound for the group. Hezbollah is fighting on the side of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces in the civil war. Source: aljazeera.com
Resolution seeks to remove a ban on Pyongyang’s exports of statues, seafood and textiles and expand it to include lifting a refined petroleum imports cap. China and Russia are pushing the United Nations Security Council to ease sanctions on North Korea by reviving a 2019 attempt to remove a ban on Pyongyang’s exports of statues, seafood and textiles, and expanding it to include lifting a refined petroleum imports cap. In a reworked draft resolution seen by the Reuters news agency, China and Russia want the 15-member council to remove those sanctions “with the intent of enhancing the livelihood of the civilian population” in the isolated Asian state.North
Korea has been subject to UN sanctions since 2006 over its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes. The draft resolution also includes other measures first proposed by Russia and China nearly two years ago, including lifting a ban on North Koreans working abroad and exempting inter-Korean rail and road cooperation projects from sanctions. Several UN diplomats, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the refreshed draft resolution would find little support. In 2019, Russia and China held two informal rounds of talks on the draft resolution, but never formally tabled it for a vote. ... Source: aljazeera.com

Global Covid death toll tops 5 M
WASHINGTON: The global death toll from Covid-19 topped five million on Monday, less than two years into a crisis that has not only devastated poor countries but also humbled wealthy ones with first-rate health care systems. Together, the United States, the European Union, Britain and Brazil all upper-middle- or high-income countries account for one-eighth of the world’s population but nearly half of all reported deaths. The US alone has recorded over 740,000 lives lost, more than any other nation. This is a defining moment in our lifetime, said Dr Albert Ko, an infectious disease specialist at the Yale School of Public Health. What do we have to do to protect ourselves so we don’t get to another 5 million? The death toll, as tallied by Johns Hopkins University, is about equal to the populations of Los Angeles and San Francisco combined. It rivals the number of people killed in battles among nations since 1950, according to estimates from the Peace Research Institute Oslo. Globally, Covid-19 is now the third leading cause of death, after heart disease and stroke.
The staggering figure is almost certainly an undercount because of limited testing and people dying at home without medical attention, especially in poor parts of the world, such as India. Hot spots have shifted over the 22 months since the outbreak began, turning different places on the world map red. Now, the virus is pummeling Russia, Ukraine and other parts of Eastern Europe, especially where rumours, misinformation and distrust in government have hobbled vaccination efforts. Blast near Kabul military hospital kills 3, wounds 16: medics .
An explosion went off on Tuesday at the entrance of a military hospital in Kabul, killing three people and wounding at least 16, health officials said. The blast went off at the entrance to the Sardar Mohammad Dawood Khan military hospital, the spokesman of the Taliban-run Interior Ministry, Saeed Khosty, wrote in a tweet. Trudeau moves on pledge to cap oil and gas 595 people died due to B.C.’s extreme emissions as COP26 talks begin in Scotland summer heat, latest coroner data reveals
GLASGOW, UNITED KINGDOM -Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked the memory of Lytton, B.C., on Monday as he called for global action in the fight against climate change and formally committed to a cap on emissions produced by Canada’s oil and gas sector. The prime minister was speaking at the 26th meeting of the Council of Parties to the UN climate convention, known as COP26, where more than 120 world leaders have gathered for two days to assess global efforts to address what many see as an existential problem. It was in that context that Trudeau referenced the record-setting temperatures that set the stage for the devastating wildfire that swept through the village of Lytton in June, destroying much of the community. ”What happened in Lytton can and has and will happen anywhere,” Trudeau told the assembled leaders, including U.S. President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. “How many more signs do we need? This is our time to step up -- and step up together.” Trudeau went on to formally launch his government’s latest effort to reduce Canada’s
greenhouse gas emissions by committing to a cap on emissions from the country’s oil and gas sector. Such a cap had been promised in the Liberals’ recent election platform, with plans to force emissions down until they hit net zero in 2050. A lack of regulations for the sector has long been a sore spot between environmental groups and Ottawa. “We’ll cap oil and gas sector emissions today and ensure they decrease tomorrow at a pace and scale needed to reach net zero by 2050,” Trudeau told the leaders. “That’s no small task for a major oil and gas producing country. It’s a big step that’s absolutely necessary.” The announcement was met with mixed reaction. Dale Marshall, national climate program manager with Environmental Defence, said Trudeau’s pledge fell short. ”Focusing on emissions from oil and gas production but not production itself will allow oil and gas companies to keep putting forward false solutions, such as carbon capture and storage, fossil-based hydrogen, and far-off net zero plans, all while pumping out more and more atmosphere-destroying fossil fuels,” Marshall said in a statement, adding Canada has the weakest emissions-reduction targets of G7 nations.“We cannot go from climate laggard to even the middle of the pack without curtailing oil and gas production, starting now.”Newly named Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault along with Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson sent a letter to the government’s net-zero advisory body Monday asking for its help to develop policy to support the new plan.S: ctvnews.ca
Inflation and interest rate hikes will be the ugly offspring of NDP-Liberal marriage
Ottawa, ON – Pierre Poilievre, Member of Parliament for Carleton, issued a statement following media reports that Justin Trudeau and Jagmeet Singh have been in secret talks to form a three year, Liberal-NDP coalition: “Justin Trudeau hasn’t even had a caucus meeting, yet is having secret coalition meetings with Jagmeet Singh that will cost Canadians billions of dollars when they follow through on the NDP’s election promises. “During the campaign, Canada’s Conservatives warned that the Liberals and the NDP had the same high tax, high spending agenda. At a time when inflation is at a near twentyyear high, this means that the cost of living will only be more expensive with the cost of gas, groceries, and housing going up for Canadians.“Justin Trudeau and Jagmeet Singh need to come clean and tell Canadians what has been agreed to between the two

VANCOUVER - The BC Coroners Service updated its data on the province’s extreme summer heat and now believes 595 people died from the record-breaking temperatures. The new data, released Monday, suggests 15 more people died from the heat than preliminary findings showed. “The BC Coroners Service is committed to gathering as much information as possible about each of these deaths to inform future, evidence-based prevention efforts,” said Lisa Lapointe, chief coroner, in a news release. “I extend my sincere condolences to all of those who lost a loved one as a result of last summer’s unprecedented heat dome. By identifying patterns and factors in the tragic
deaths that occurred unexpectedly last summer, our province will be in a better position to prevent future similar tragedies.” The coroner said while many heat-related deaths were recorded in B.C. this summer, at least 88 per cent were between June 25 and July 1. Of those, 131 were recorded on June 28 and 231 were on June 29. The provincial coroner defines a death as heat-related when the environment or the body temperature is consistent with hyperthermia or when there is evidence to support that heat had a significant impact on the death. Nearly three-quarters of the deaths were in the Lower Mainland, with Fraser Health recording 270 and Vancouver Coastal counting 120. Vancouver, Surrey and Burnaby saw the most deaths compared to other municipalities. Sixty-nine per cent of the deaths were among people aged 70 and older. No heat deaths were reported among children. “While we expect the findings of the death review will significantly contribute to efforts to increase public safety, we must take steps to prepare for future extreme weather events now,” Lapointe said... “I was Mayor when SFU came to Surrey and have seen the huge effect that institution has had on residents’ plans for a longterm future in this community,” says McCallum. “Today’s announcement by UBC is a part of the Safe Surrey Coalition’s strategic plan to build a city where young people and young families can envision a path forward without having to leave the city.” With those attending UBC forced into choosing between long daily commutes or moving out of Surrey altogether, this is a positive development for students charting their educational trajectory, according to Surrey Councillor Allison Patton. “With a daughter that will graduate from high school over the next few years, I as a parent am pleased that Surrey’s students will have more local choices for the continuation of their education,” says Patton.
“Family support and togetherness is something that many young people want to maintain during their post-secondary pursuits, and UBC’s upcoming Surrey campus will help to better facilitate that aspiration.” The transition to the truly local Surrey Police Service, the construction currently under way on the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension, balanced and smart local development policy-making and increasing local educational institutions are the four critical pillars of the Safe Surrey Coalition’s vision for Surrey’s livable future. Surrey Councillor Laurie Guerra is proud of these tangible accomplishments that will have a direct and immense impact on the quality of life for Surrey’s residents. “From bringing local decision-making back to public safety to securing the first major transit infrastructure in 35 years to attract-

Beware of using your corporation’s income to pay personal expenses
Jamie Golombek: You could be hit with a shareholder benefit for appropriating corporate funds for personal use Author of the article:Jamie Golombek f you own an incorporated business or professional corporation, it can be quite tempting to pay for various personal expenses out of your corporation’s income, but doing so is problematic for a couple of reasons. For one thing, those expenses wouldn’t be tax deductible to the corporation unless they were incurred for legitimate purposes to earn business or investment income. But even more concerning is that you could be hit with a shareholder benefit for appropriating corporate funds for personal use, rather than taking them out the normal way via taxable salary, bonus or dividends. Wealthy investors brace for higher taxes A recent tax case, decided last week, dealt with non-deductible expenses, unreported shareholder benefits and gross negligence penalties assessed by the Canada Revenue Agency. The case involved a Montreal dentist who leases the premises for his dental clinic from a private corporation, which is solely owned by his 93-year-old mother. He is the corporation’s president and administrator and holds a general power of attorney for his mother. The dentist’s tax troubles began back in 2009 when the corporation purchased a vacation property at Lake Archambault, a popular vacation destination about a two-hour drive north of Montreal in the Laurentian mountains. The purchase price was $550,000 and the corporation used $70,000 of its own funds and borrowed the remainder via a mortgage. The CRA reassessed both the corporation and the dentist’s mother for the 2009 to 2013 taxation years. It imposed gross
I
negligence penalties on the corporation for claiming non-deductible capital expenses along with various operating expenses, such as home insurance, property taxes, school taxes and mortgage interest, related to the vacation property. In addition, it imposed gross negligence penalties on the dentist’s mother for unreported shareholder benefits conferred on her son from the corporation for the use of the property. The CRA also clawed back the mother’s Old Age Security payments as a result of her now-higher income, taking into account the assessed shareholder benefit. The issue before the Tax Court was whether this vacation property was acquired by the corporation for the purpose of earning income or for personal use, thus giving rise to a shareholder benefit. The dentist testified that he was looking for a house to renovate, rent out during the renovations and then resell for a profit. The dentist described the efforts made to rent the house and claimed it was listed on at least two websites for short-term rentals. As proof, he produced two screenshots taken in August 2019 of two rental websites. One shot showed that he had been a member since November 2010, and the other since May 2009. At trial, the dentist produced a copy of the house’s first lease dated April 10, 2009, which was 12 months in duration, from June 2009 to May 2010. It was rented to his thenspouse. The dentist testified that his wife “may have continued to rent the house until 2014, when she ceased to be his wife.” The dentist was asked to name any other tenants of the house during the years in question, but was only able to name himself and his former spouse. The judge found that the two initial website
listings were made after the 12-month lease had already been signed with his spouse. Thus the judge did “not consider these listings to constitute good faith attempts to offer the house for rent … (Rather) they were only a sham and that they show that from the outset the intention was to deceive the CRA.” The judge determined that there was simply not enough evidence to conclude that the dentist’s now ex-spouse really paid the corporation the rent stated in the lease. The dentist only produced a table that he had recently prepared based on bank statements, which included all the rents received by the corporation, most of which related to the rent paid to the corporation for his dental practice. He was unable to provide, in his testimony or by referring to the corporation’s financial records, a reliable breakdown of the rental income of the vacation home for the years in question. The taxpayer then tried to argue that the insurance policy he took out in 2009 indicated that the house being insured was a “second home occupied by third parties.” The annual premium for this policy was $4,600. A year later, however, the policy was renewed and the house was described as a “second home occupied by the insured” and the policy was classified as an “owner occupant” one, with an annual cost of only $2,000. The dentist testified that he changed the description for insurance “because it was cheaper,” and not because there had been a change in the use of the residence, but the judge didn’t buy that argument. The judge concluded that, based on the evidence, the vacation home was purchased by the corporation and used by the corporation for the personal use of its shareholder, her son, his then-wife and their daughters. Although there might have been a few short-
term rentals of the house during the years in question, the evidence did not establish, on a balance of probabilities, that this was actually the case. Nor did the evidence show that his then-spouse actually paid any rent during the initial lease period of the house. The judge stated that the taxpayer’s intention “has always been to make the residence available to himself and his spouse, for their personal use. The misleading listings of the residence on the web, when it was already rented to his spouse, even before the sale was closed, and the misleading description of the use of the residence in the insurance policy confirm that (the dentist) intended from the outset to try to deceive the CRA as to its real use.” The judge concluded that the dentist’s income tax returns for each of the years in question contained an “incorrect presentation of the facts and a false statement or omission concerning the use of the residence and the expenses associated with it.” He characterized it as a “willful omission knowingly made by (the dentist), who is president and administrator of (the corporation) and agent of his mother.” For this reason, the CRA’s reassessments of tax owing were confirmed, along with the gross negligence penalties. How to Deal With Negative Emotions and Stress? Understand Your Emotions
Look within and try to pinpoint the situations that are creating the stress and negative emotions in your life. Negative emotions can come from a triggering event: an overwhelming workload, for example. Going In to November- An update
Reopening Land Borders n March 2020, Canada and the U.S.A. agreed to close their shared land borders to non-essential travel to stop the spread of Covid-19. Although Canada reopened its land borders to fully vaccinated Americans in August of 2021, the U.S.A. is only now announcing its plans for the border.
I
U.S.A border crossings are now reopening on November 8th. This announcement was a large relief to Canadian travelers, especially those with family in the border towns.
Still, precautions have been put in place. Recreational travelers returning home will need to show proof of a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours and Canada is only accepting molecular tests. AN example being a PCR test which can prove to be quite expensive.
Covid-19 Update
S
ince the start of the pandemic, British Columbia has reported 206, 690 cases of Covid-19 while deaths have amounted to 2,186. Now, about 90% of eligible Canadians have been vaccinated with one dose and approximately 85.4% fully vaccinated with both doses. Although all vaccines administered continue to protect Canadians from the virus, new mutations are still infecting vaccinated and non-vaccinated citizens. Because of this, wearing masks, keeping distance from others, and actively using sanitizer is still important. Especially since in-person school is completely functional again, and people are going back to offices for work.

Researchers discover new type of nerve cell in the retina
S
cientists at the John A. Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah have discovered a new type of nerve cell, or neuron, in the retina. In the central nervous system, a complex circuitry of neurons communicate with each other to relay sensory and motor information; so-called interneurons serve as intermediaries in the chain of communication. Publishing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, a research team led by Ning Tian, Ph.D., identifies a previously unknown type of interneuron in the mammalian retina. The discovery marks a notable development for the field as scientists work toward a bet-
ter understanding of the central nervous system by identifying all classes of neurons and their connections. “Based on its morphology, physiology, and genetic properties, this cell doesn’t fit into the five classes of retinal neurons first identified more than 100 years ago,” said Tian. “We propose they might belong to a new retinal neuron class by themselves.” The research team named their discovery the Campana cell after its shape, which resembles a hand bell. Campana cells relay visual signals from both types of light-sensing rod and cone photoreceptors in the retina, but their precise purpose is the subject of ongoing research. Experiments showed Campana
cells remain activated for an unusually long time—as long as 30 seconds—in response to a 10 millisecond light flash stimulation. “In the brain, persistent firing cells are believed to be involved in memory and learning,” said Tian. “Since Campana cells have a similar behavior, we theorize they could play a role in prompting a temporal ‘memory’ of a recent stimulation.” The published research study is titled “An uncommon neuronal class conveys visual signals from rods and cones to retinal ganglion cells.” Authors are Brent K. Young, Charu Ramakrishnan, Tushar Ganjawala, Ping Wang, Karl Deisseroth, and Ning Tian. Source: medicalxpress.com
B.C. residents who got 2 AstraZeneca doses may get booster shot sooner, health officials announce
V
ANCOUVER - B.C. residents who received two AstraZeneca shots to protect themselves against COVID-19 may receive an invitation to get their booster shot a little earlier than others. Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry shared the update during a morning news conference Monday, saying B.C.’s boosterdose program is moving forward. The top doctor announced last week that third doses would be available to the general public starting in the new year. “We started already with long-term care,
with seniors in our community, with people who have compromised immune systems,” Henry said. “The data has also shown … that individuals who received two doses of AstraZeneca have had a waning of protection.” Henry said those individuals “still have very strong, good protection for serious illness,” but their protection from infection isn’t as robust. “As a result, people who received two doses of AstraZeneca will be receiving invitations for their booster dose at six months,” she said. “This may be sooner than other
healthy adults in the community where we know there’s very good, strong protection that’s lasting well.” When Henry announced the booster-dose program, she said invitations will be sent out between six and eight months after a person received their second shot, with the specific timing of that rollout determined by age and level of vulnerability. Henry said all booster doses – including for those who got AstraZeneca – will be with an mRNA vaccine..... Source: medicalxpress.com

Punjab govt releases more than 800 TLP workers two days after agreement
After three days of clashes with the police in Lahore, the TLP started a long march to Islamabad on Oct 22. Five police officials were martyred and scores of others from both sides received injuries in clashes in Lahore and Gujranwala as the marchers moved on the Grand Trunk Road. The younger Rizvi has been kept in detention by the Punjab government since April 12 for “maintenance of public order”. However, TLP leader Pir Ajmal Qadri had later said the purpose of the move was “respect for the Holy Prophet (PBUH)”, while also demanding Rizvi’s release.
Agreement
On Sunday, members of the negotiating team from the government side claimed that they had reached an ‘agreement’ with the proscribed group but refused to divulge its details. Mufti Munibur Rehman, who facilitated the talks along with some other religious leaders, had said at the time that details of the agreement would be made public at an “appropriate time”. He, however, said its “positive results” would be visible to the nation next week or during the next 10 days. He then used an English proverb “action speaks louder than words” to justify the move to keep details of the deal secret. According to sources, the government assured the TLP leadership that it would unfreeze the accounts and assets of the proscribed outfit and take steps to lift the ban. They said the TLP was also assured that the government would not pursue minor cases against the TLP leadership and workers, but the cases registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act would
be decided by courts. ‘Alliance with TLP means isolation’ Meanwhile, Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry said the TLP would be “over sooner than Sunni Tehreek” — a religious organisation that converted itself into a political party in 2012. In a tweet, Chaudhry said that religious extremist groups “have capacity to use mob for violence but [their] capacity to stir politics has always been limited”. “At one point Sunni Tehreek was more violent than TLP but done n dusted this party will be over sooner, alliance with such party means [international] isolation,” he added. Pakistan to observe October 27 as ‘Kashmir black day’, orders its embassies to spread anti-India propaganda and hold protests
Pakistan embassies across the world have planned t observe October 27 as yet another ‘Kashmir Black Day’. It is notable that every year, October 22 is observed as Black Day in Jammu and Kashmir to mark the invasion by Pakistan just after two months of India’s Independence in 1947. Needless to say, Pakistan is trying to push its anti-India agenda using Kashmir as an issue, yet again, on the international platform. Pakistan’s PM Imran Khan shared a thread on Twitter in which he said, “Pakistan and millions of Kashmiris observe the Kashmir Black Day every 27 October to condemn
the beginning of the illegal occupation of parts of the State of Jammu and Kashmir by India.” In a proposed toolkit designed by Pakistan, the authorities want its social media “warriors” to concentrate on ‘Indian atrocities’, ‘Human rights violations’ and more. OpIndia accessed multiple documents via sources regarding the orders given by higher officials in Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs directing its missions across European nations to hold programs on October 27. For Brussels, the orders were signed by one Rahee Tariq, where the embassy was asked to hold an extensive outreach program to the authorities in Belgium, Luxembourg and EU institutions, including the European Parliament and present a “fact sheet on Kashmir.” One can only imagine what kind of propaganda filled these so-called fact sheets can be. It also asked the embassies
to get articles published in Belgian media about the Kashmir issue. Demonstrations, protests and seminars, along with the use of social media to spread propaganda, were part of the agenda. Similarly, for Copenhagen, the embassy was asked to hold protests outside the Danish Parliament. From photo exhibitions against India to displaying images of alleged human rights violations on billboards across Copenhagen were planned. For Prague, in the orders signed by Kamran Ahmed Malik, Pakistan asked its embassy to arrange a meeting with the President of the Czech-Pakistan Friendship group in the Parliament to discuss alleged human rights violations by Indian authorities in Kashmir. It also asked for coverage of special messages of the Prime Minister, President and Foreign Minister in local media outlets. For Nairobi, in the orders signed by Saqlain Syedah, Pakistan asked the embassy to host a small reception for speakers of Kashmir and Pakistan origin
to discuss Kashmir. It also asked to appraise Pakistan origin Parliamentarians about the issues in Kashmir from Pakistan’s perspective. For Belarus, in the orders signed by Muhammed Abdullah Amin, Pakistan asked the embassy to arrange a presentation on Kashmir along with a display of video documentary, photograph exhibition and webinar on the propaganda narrated by Pakistan. It also asked for coverage in local media... Source: dawn.com

The captain and head coach address the players after Pakistan’s historic win over India. We gave a complete team performance and we do not have to let go of this. This is just the start, enjoy it, but do not get overexcited after beating India. We need to look ahead and our focus should be to win the T20 World Cup. We will never be relaxed, just look to give your 100 per cent. The Pakistan skipper also made sure to remind his teammates not to make the mistake of relaxing after a big win. “We have to change our habit of getting overexcited after such games. I can see in each one of you that this habit will change. We will have to do this, no one else will come and do it for us. So, very well done,” he added.
