Finance minister says rising in terest rates will cool economy, drive up unemployment.

Finance Minister Chrystia Free land issued a warning to Canadians Wednesday — the coming months won’t be pretty as rising interest rates slow a once red-hot economy and force some people out of their jobs.

The Bank of Canada’s recent rate hikes to tame sky-high inflation will increase borrowing costs for busi nesses and consumers alike, which will send shockwaves throughout the economy, Freeland said. Speak

OTTAWA

- Canada’s latest reading on inflation came in hotter than expected as the cost of groceries continued to climb at the fastest pace in decades, setting the stage for another sizeable interest rate hike next week.

In its latest consumer price index re port, Statistics Canada said the coun try’s annual inflation rate in Septem ber dropped slightly to 6.9 per cent from 7.0 per cent in August.

BMO’s chief economist Douglas Porter said the deceleration in head line inflation was smaller than what

was expected. Bluntly, inflation did not ease as much as anticipated last month, even as gasoline costs took a big step back,” he said.

FATF removes Pakistan from grey list after 4 years

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF), a global money laundering and terrorism financing watchdog, on Friday removed Pakistan from a list of countries under “increased monitoring”, also known as the “grey list”. Addressing the press confer ence at the conclusion of its plenary, FATF President Raja Kumar noted that Pakistan had been on the grey list since 2018. “It has two concur rent action plans. After a lot of work by Pakistani authorities, they have largely addressed all of the action plan items,” he said.

He stated that the task force had conducted an onsite visit at the end of August. The onsite team verified that there is a high-level of commit ment from the Pakistani leadership, sustainability of reforms and com

October is Islamic Heritage Month

Muslim communities play in Canadian society. Learn more about Islam and Muslims Muslims are ethnically diverse and represent many interpretations of Islam. They come from and represent all six continents.

As a school system, we need to recognize this and be aware of this diversity when teaching about Muslim identities, stories and realities

Acts of islamophobia continue against Mus lim communities in our Region.

October is Islamic History Month.

It gives us an opportunity to learn about the diversity of people who follow the Islamic faith, recognize their con tributions, and honour the rich history of Islam. In October 2007, the Government of Canada designated October as Islamic His tory Month (IHM) to highlight the role that

It is critical that we engage in deeper learning and explore Islamic culture. Doing this will create safer, caring, more inclusive learning environments for Muslim students.

These diverse communities have an array of rich traditions and share a deep history from which we can all learn. As we celebrate the many achievements and contributions of

We remain committed to appointing the first-ever Spe cial Representative on Combatting Islamo phobia.

In October, I encourage all Canadians to join in on local events that highlight the history of Muslim Canadian communities.

Together, let us continue to strive toward building a country that is even more wel coming and inclusive, where everyone has a chance to succeed.

Ask the Imam (Q&A) Accepting donations from non-Muslims

Question 92445: Can muslims accept donations from non-muslims to usein Islamic Cause?

Supervised by Shaykh Muhammad Saalih al-Munajjid Answer:

Praise be to Allah.

Imaam al-Bukhaari (may Allaah have mercy on him) gave one of the chapters in his Saheeh the title of Baab qabool alhadiyah min al-mushrikeen (Chapter on accepting gifts from the polytheists), un der which heading he listed a number of ahaadeeth indicating that this is permitted. Al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar commented: On this topic, Abu Dawood and al-Tirmidhi narrat ed from Ayyaad ibn Himar [??] who said: I gave the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) a gift of a she-camel. He asked me, Have you become Muslim?

I said, No. He said, I have been forbidden to accept the gifts of the mushrikeen. Then al-Haafiz (may Allaah have mercy on him) quoted some of the comments made by the scholars to reconcile the texts which indicate that such gifts should be refused with those which indicate that they should be accepted. (The scholars said that) gifts should be refused when the intention be hind them is to win the Muslim over (by softening his heart towards them), and they should be accepted when by doing so

there is the hope of befriending that person and opening his heart to Islam.

There is nothing wrong with accepting unsolicited gifts and donations from nonMuslims, and it is permissible to spend them on Islamic projects and in other ways.

But asking for donations from non-Mus lims carries several risks, such as being humiliated in front of them or being con trolled by them.

If there is no danger of such things happen ing, there is nothing wrong with asking. When he was still in Makkah, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to ask for help for the sake of dawah, without any humiliation involved, from some of the mushrikeen, such as his uncle Abu Taalib and others. There is no humiliation involved in putting out charity boxes or circulating flyers giving account numbers for donations, and so on. And Al laah knows best. (Source: IslamQA)

irun and Surat al-Ikhlas in the two Sunnah rak‘ahs of Fajr and Maghrib.

Yes, it is recommended to recite Surat al-Kafirun and Surat al-Ikhlas in the two Sunnah rak‘ahs of Fajr and Maghrib. This is proven in the sahih Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him).

Question: 85349

Halloween is widely celebrated in the west, and it is based on European and Celtic pagan doctrines, which are celebrated on the evening of October 31 every year.

Halloween is the sign that symbolizes the start of ancient Druid’s New Year, which is derived from the ritual of worshipping dead spirits and devils—and holding a festival when the “dead” visit their home at that time. In short, the festival of Haloween is a celebration of worshipping the devil as well as the new year when the dead’s spirit visits their home. Since praise someone else than Allah comes under the circle of Shirk, it is a grave sin to celebrate for Muslims as this festival is all about praising the devil and praising those who worship the devil.

What does Quran say about celebrating Halloween?

Dr Muzamil Siddiqi further stated in his fat wa that Halloween is an old Pagan holiday about dead spirits and witches. After some time, Christians made an effort to Chris tianize it by calling this eve “t “All Saints “ay” Meanwhile, many Christians still call it a lousy holiday and irrelevant.

Whether Christians accept it or not but for Muslims, it is unacceptable to celebrate something which can cause Shirk. Every

Flood Victim Funding transparency and what happened in

Theworst flood situation in the four provinces of Pakistan has forced thou sands of people to leave their homes and move to safer plac es. As usual in this tough time, immigrants and various asso ciations also got busy in col lecting donations for the flood victims around the world.

In our British Columbia, this campaign was started with various associations, Masajids, Islamic Centers, South Asians, Radio thons, at privates’ level and in NGOs fundraising din ners to collect donations and still it is going on.

The participants of this cam paign volunteered day and night to make this campaign a success and on the other hand not only Canadians of Paki stani origin and Punjabi com munities came forward and other local communities also contributed to it.

It is a perfect example of hu man compassion and love and it is under-appreciated. May Allah bless all the participants who worked day and night to collect donations, and the donors who donated gener ously for the love of humanity and for the sake of Allah, grant His mercy and grace. Do it. Ameen. We know that those who col lect money have fulfilled their duty with tireless efforts. Now

by their hard work and the full account of the money received (might be few pledges are not yet collected) should be sent to the victim’s people as early as possible.

Now charity donors have the right to ask the transparency of the proper use of this collected public money. The community has the right to know exactly how much money has been col lected by all communities’ mem bers and delivered to whom in Pakistan for what projects and where it is being used.

It is the duty of every institution, association, and private people to publish a regular written ac count of the amount collected on its website and provide a copy to the local Medias. Trust will also be established in the participating associations and in the future, if such a need ever arises in any part of the world, the community will participate even more actively than before.

BC’s Civic election has been completed

The BC Civic elections were also completed on October 15 and all the results must have been known to all of you. In major cities there was a very upset at Mayor seats. From the Muslim community Mr. Bilal Cheema of “Sri First” has re ceived almost 22,000 votes. No doubt, this is the result of Bilal

I have been follow ing City of Surrey’s working for many years. I observed that all Surrey may ors have one-track mind, they choose a favorite issue and spend all the time of their term on that issue. Mayor Dianne Watts (2006-2011) in her first two terms concentrated on changing the look of Surrey Centre. She built brand new pub lic library, and new city hall. During her next term (2011-2014) she concentrated on Light Rail Train (LRT) for Guildford-Surrey CentreNewton route. Next mayor Linda Hepner also talked about LRT. In 2018 mayor Doug McCal lum won the election. He changed LRT project into Surrey-Langley Skytrain extension. He also announced to change the police from RCMP to Surrey Police Service. During his term of 4 years, he remained single-minded and concen trated on police transition only. In the last 20 years no mayor tried to tackle the main issues of the common man. The main issues are:

1. Increasing affordable rental spaces

2. Reducing traffic congestion-widening roads

3. Increasing child-care spaces

4. Increasing seats in colleges and universities

Improving bus service

6. Reducing the waiting time of patients in Surrey Hospital

7. Safety and security of citizens

8. Removal of delay in the issuance of per mits and licenses

9. Removal of portables from schools I felt that Surrey needs a mayor who cares about all issues. That is one reason I decided to run as mayor of Surrey 2022. Another rea son was that I have been writing to BC Health Minister and TransLink about Health Care

Cheema’s day and night com munity service and tireless hard work, and it is good news for the community. Our other Muslim candidate Ms. Zubeen Sahib also got 6635 votes from “United Surrey” slate.

However, for the Muslim com munity, this is a place to think about how much we have sup ported our candidates. And why we could not get even one seat.

Now all of us should make a plan of action together so that the mistakes that have been made this time cannot be re peated. And a path should be set that leads to success. Now we all have to think together how we can move towards improvement and make our identity possible through candidates for National and Provincial Assembly and civic elections.

Let’s start preparing now for the BC Provincial Election 2024 and Federal Election 2025. Those who want to participate should start their efforts now and make themselves active in the communities.

Miracle Media extends its heartiest congratulations to all the Mayors, Councilors and School Trustees who won in re cent civic elections.

All major cities City Councils should face similar these major

and Public Transportation issues faced by the citizens of Surrey. I also sent copies of my emails to the mayor, Councillors, MLAs, and MPs of Surrey, but no one ever answered my emails. It showed that politicians aren’t interested in peo ple’s issues.

In July, 2022, I expressed my intention to run as an independent candidate as the mayor of Surrey. Surrey’s English Language newspaper Surrey Now Leader published the news of my candidacy on the front cover of its August 11, 2022 issue.

I started moving among people of Surrey to know about their intention to vote various can didates. There were 8 mayoral candidates, with 6 of them having a slate of Council candidates.

Whenever I met a person from main stream, he told me that he’ll vote for Brenda Locke. When I asked a South Asian person, I was told that he would vote for Doug McCallum. I got this idea that most people have already made up their minds.

Before starting my advertising campaign I talked to my brother-in-law in Brampton On tario, who had run as a Concillor in 2014 mu nicipal elections. He did a full-fledged cam paign spending a whopping $70,000, but he received only 3500 votes and lost the election with a big margin. He told me that advertising has a minimal effect on the voters, most of the people make up their mind about their choice of candidate. So I decided to not do much of advertising.

The media people interviewed me along with other mayoral candidates. Main stream media highlighted only 5 high-profile candidatesDoug McCallum, Brenda Locke, Sukh Dhali wal, Gordie Hogg, and Jinni Sims, it ignored 3 other candidates including me. Even Business Improvement Association of Downtown Sur rey didn’t include 3 of us (Amrit Birring, John Walanski, and me) in the Mayoral debate held at Civic Hotel. I did attend Mayoral debates ar ranged by South Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce, Cloverdale Chamber of Com

10. Open door for people’s problems and questions

An important thing to keep in mind is that the turnover of civic elections is about 36 per cent. It is a moment of thought.

Voting is a duty and our future depends on the coming party and candidates. If all people do not use this right, then they have neglected their duty and did not think about the future.

Maybe if everyone uses the vote, the coming ones will be the spokespersons of the ideas of the better people and can do the work of betterment and welfare of the people better.

Voting is not only a duty but also a debt to our future gen erations.

What do you think? Will think for sure!!!

merce, Kwantlen and Simon Fraser university students union, Surrey Board of Trade, Madina Masjid, and We Belong Surrey. Generally ques tions about Public Safety, Housing, Health Care, Transportation, Homelessness, Sports, and Cul ture were asked. I was also interviewed briefly by South Asian media like RedFm radio, Con nectFm Radio, Jaskaran Show, Omni Punjabi, and Shere Punjab radio.

I depended on my about 2,000 Facebook friends from Surrey for support. I did some online ad vertising through Google and Facebook. I also thought that I would get some support from the 4,500 people who had voted for me in 2018 election, when I ran as a Council candidate in Surrey. Three mayoral candidates-Doug McCallum, Jinni Sims, and Sukh Dhaliwal spent huge amounts on advertising. Gordie Hogg started working on his campaign very late. Other can didates, including Brenda Locke did hardly any advertising.

Election Results: Brenda Locke won with a mar gin of 973 votes defeating incumbent Doug Mc Callum. 4 Councillors of Brenda Locke’s party Surrey Connect were also elected. 2 Council lors were elected each of Gordie Hogg’s Surrey First, and Doug McCallum’s Safe Surrey Coa lition party. I received only 385 votes as voters thought I had no chance to win, so they avoided to vote for me. But overall I am happy to get the experience, and recognition by the media. I am thankful to Mr. Naseer Pirzada, editor of Mira cle who supported me by publishing my views in his newspaper.

After the election

Mayor-elect Brenda Locke’s only agenda is to re vert the police transition back to RCMP. I don’t think she would do anything else for the people of Surrey in the next 4 years. The Council would be a dysfunctional one as many decisions would be made by 5-4 margin (Brenda Locke and her 4 Councillors Vs 4 other Councillors).

EU response to energy crisis looms amid rising oil, gas prices

Energy prices began soaring last year after the lifting of pandemic lockdowns, followed by Rus sia’s war in Ukraine this year.

Brussels, Belgium – All eyes are on Brussels this week as European Union leaders convene in Belgium’s capital to find a joint solution to tackle the energy crisis, which has been gnaw ing at the bloc for more than a year.

Energy prices – determined by the price of crude oil, natural gas and coal – began soaring last year as a result of COVID lockdowns being lifted, followed by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine this year. “Russia’s war on Ukraine has severe consequences on global and European energy markets,” European Commission President Ur sula von der Leyen said at a press conference in the French city of Strasbourg on Tuesday. Before the war, 40 percent of the gas used in the EU was supplied by Russia. But in July, due to Moscow’s aggression in Ukraine, the bloc

agreed to cut Russian gas usage by 15 percent, in an effort to wean off its dependency.

In retaliation, the Kremlin cut gas supplies to the EU with Russian gas giant Gazprom announc ing that the Nord Stream 1 (NS1) pipeline, which delivers gas to EU countries like Germany, would be shut for maintenance work indefinitely.

B.C. NDP leadership hopeful warns party against ‘nuclear option’ of disqualifying her

Appadurai denies her campaign has done anything wrong. B.C. New Democratic Party leadership hopeful Anjali Appadurai is urging the party executive not to use what she called an undemocratic “nuclear option” to disqualify her, a move that would make David Eby the sole contender to become the next premier. Party executives were ex pected to decide later Wednesday whether Appadurai can stay in the contest to replace

Premier John Horgan.

A report from the NDP’s chief electoral of ficer, Elizabeth Cull, obtained by The Ca nadian Press, recommends Appadurai be disqualified over alleged breaches of contest rules, such as an alliance with an environ mental group and the wooing of former B.C. Green Party members. Appadurai denies her campaign has done anything wrong. She says they used grassroots organizing to sign

up thousands of new members to vote in the race — significantly more than Eby, the former attorney general and minister responsible for housing. “And so the party had a choice. Let all the members of the party, new and old, choose the next leader and risk having a climate cham pion in the premier seat or take this undemo cratic approach and disqualify the candidate,” Appadurai said at a news conference in Van couver on Wednesday...Source: vicnews.com

Ken Sim, Brenda Locke boot incumbents in Metro’s biggest cities

A roundup of the latest news from 2022 municipal election, including the winners, losers, notes and reaction. Saturday was voting day in B.C.’s municipal elections! The polls have closed and the results are in. Incumbent Kennedy Stewart has conceded the Vancouver mayor’s chair to Ken Sim. Sim was defeated leading an NPA slate against Stewart in 2018. With all 106 polls now reporting, the ABC Vancou ver mayoral candidate has 85,732 votes compared to Stew art’s 49593. “ABC Vancouver was born out of a desire for change, a desire to do politics differently,” said Sim in his

victory speech. “It was born on the promise that decisions in government should not be made on the advice of polls, lobbyists, activists or whatever is trending on Twitter. “But instead, it should be made on the advice of parents and educators and scientists and health-care providers, and what’s happening in community town halls and coffee shops and the occasional local pub,” he said to laughs. The slate of seven ABC councillors led by Sarah Kirby-Yung were all in the top spots as well, followed by Adriane Carr of the Green party, OneCity’s Christine Boyle and the Greens’ Pete Fry in the 10th and final spot. And ABC candidates are also

topping polls for the park board — which Sim once talked about disbanding before deciding to run a slate — and the school board.

In his concession speech from a downtown Vancouver hotel ballroom, Stewart acknowledged he was “sad” to give up the mayor’s seat but insisted the city had made progress on the housing file over the past four years. “I think we’ve really turned the tide on the housing crisis we have in the city,” he told supporters, citing a shift away from building primarily condos for investors to rental and social housing.

B.C. municipal election results: 6 interesting facts from 2022 McCallum not conceding in Surrey, considering judicial recount of vote: party

The council comprises the 21 mayors of Metro Vancouver cities, plus representa tives from Electoral Area A (UBC Endow ment Lands and the Tsawwassen First Na tion — 23 votes in total, although each vote is weighted according to the size of the area represented. Neither the chair (Jonathon Coté of New Westminster) or vice chair (Jack Froese of Langley Township) sought re-election and so will be replaced.

New faces could mean big changes for TransLink, as voter turnout reflected in mu nicipalities that voted for change.

Voters across B.C. got their chance on Sat urday to determine who takes care of their municipal matters for the next four years.

In an election that saw the mayoral and coun cil incumbents in Vancouver and Surrey knocked out, here’s a look at some of the inter esting things that happened on Oct. 15, 2022.

1. No vote-splitting woes in Vancouver Leading up to this year’s election, pundits thought there was a chance Kennedy Stew art could retain his crown simply because he had four main mayoral contenders that could split the votes opposing his rule. This turned out to be far from the case. New mayor Ken Sim ended up getting 85,732 votes — almost 10,000 more than the com bined votes of Stewart, Colleen Hardwick, Mark Marissen and Fred Harding.

2. Change came to smaller cities, too Vancouver and Surrey were not the only cities to see incumbent mayors defeated on Saturday night.

Penticton (Julius Bloomfield), Saanich (Dean Murdock), Cranbrook (Wayne Price), Langford (Scott Goodmanson), Kelowna (Tom Dyas), Nelson (Janice Morrison), Trail (Colleen Jones), Williams Lake (Surinderpal Rathor) and Quesnel (Ron Paull) also saw their incumbents fall — with the winners shown in brackets.

There were new mayoral faces in other cities also where the incumbent chose not to run again. Included are Marianne Alto in Victo ria, Denise O’Connor in Lytton, Lilia Hans en in Fort St. John, Darcy Dober in Dawson Creek and Kevin Moutray in Vanderhoof.

3. New faces could mean new plans for tran sit across Metro Vancouver

TransLink’s Mayor’s Council — the body that oversees TransLink’s multi-billion transportation network and is responsible for planning — will have 10 new members for the next four years.

Public transportation watchdog Nathan Da vidowicz said given that vote weighting fa vours Vancouver and Surrey, there are now 85 new votes compared to 49 old votes. So the newcomers wield the power.

Davidowicz predicts that TransLink’s Trans port 2050 and its 10-year plans could change under the new council.

4. Sim treads path not touched for 42 years On Saturday night, Ken Sim and his ABC Vancouver party took control of Vancouver city hall. Not only did Sim garner the most votes for mayor ever in Vancouver, he did something that had not been done since 1980 — he knocked off an incumbent mayor.

The last time this happened was 42-years ago when Mike Harcourt beat incumbent Jack Volrich.

Harcourt was one of several current and past members of the federal and provincial NDP that backed Kennedy for mayor.

5. Fewer votes leads to victory for Surrey mayor Brenda Locke

In the 2018 municipal election, former Sur rey mayor Doug McCallum won with 45,569 votes. In 2022, now mayor Brenda Locke was able to win with 33,311 votes — 12,258 fewer than McCallum in the prior election.

Anywhere near McCallum’s total vote four years ago would have been enough for com fortable re-election.

6. A tale of four cities

The largest municipalities in B.C. by popu lation are Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby and Richmond. And when it came to voter turn out this year, the larger the electorate, the greater the percentage of voters.

Polls showed that in both Vancouver and Surrey, it was a vote for change, reflected in a relatively high 37.4 per cent turnout for Vancouver, followed by 32 per cent in Sur rey. Richmond, meanwhile, saw a 25 per cent turnout with incumbent Malcolm Bro die winning yet again, while Burnaby saw just 20 per cent of voters turnout in an elec tion that saw no competition for incumbent Mike Hurley.

Safe Surrey Coalition says McCallum won’t accept defeat at this point in time’ Mayor Doug McCallum’s political party says he’s not conceding the election in Surrey, B.C. The Safe Surrey Coalition says in a state ment that with less than a 1,000-vote differ ence from his challenger, Brenda Locke, Mc Callum won’t accept defeat “at this point in time.”The statement says the party’s legal ad visers are reviewing the Local Elections Act, which outlines laws around requesting a judicial recount. Unofficial results from the City of Surrey show Locke clinched the vic

tory with 973 votes more than McCal lum.

According to the act, an ap plication for a judicial re count can be made on the basis that votes were not cor rectly accepted or rejected, that a ballot ac count did not accurately record the number of votes for a candidate...

The season of Fall is one to be cozy, indulge in our favour ites, and change. Many of us asso ciate fall or autumn as a happy season where memories from our past come up of sharing meals with our loved ones or indulging in lazy evenings watching our favourite movies. Fall is a season of transition where we go from a vibrant, buzzing, and active season of summer to a more quiet, dark, and intro spective time. It turns into an inward jour ney where we spend more time with our selves and reflect on our year with the goals we achieved and the ones we did not. It is a hopeful season where we have time to catch up on things or face an increased drive to meet our personal and professional goals. We look forward to meals together or pre

fall – the season of Change

pare for vacations and a perfect blend to slow down and reflect on ourselves. What better way to do that than lean on our fivesenses to slow down?

What you feel? – The first approach is to focus on our feelings inside – are you feel ing hopeful and excited for the remaining of the year? Do you feel upset that you did not meet certain goals? Are you feeling frustrat ed by certain aspects of your life? Many of us might feel an increase in our emotions and they might come across more complex than you expect. While the falling leaves may evoke sadness, they also represent a rebirth.

It is the start of a new school year, shedding of old cycles, and a new beginning for many of us as we start the last phase of the year. Fo cus on your feelings and try to get to the root so you can take a more positive approach to either fix the situation or practice gratitude.

What do you see? The falling leaves can feel sadness for many of us, the death of some thing so beautiful we have been seeing the

last months. The joy of shade on a hot sum mer day is giving way to empty branches and rotting leaves. It could also be shedding old skin and making way for new beginnings.

It is a time of celebration for many of us through the beginning of holidays. Even if we don’t celebrate certain days, we can still use that time to spend moments with loved ones trying season goodies such as pump kin pies. Use the time to come together and eat the fruits of your labour and focusing on gratitude for the company we have.

What do you smell? What do you taste? The change comes with the smell of first rain after a hot summer season. This smell that goes beyond translation where people of all cultures and races admire.

It is a reminder of our place in the world where we must all return to the earth and use this time to leave an impact while we are here. The wonderful smell of pumpkin, ap ples, and everything related to fall is a way to focus on the good that might come with an

otherwise cold and dark time, a reminder that there is light and good no matter how it may feel. It is a chance for us to create happy memories no matter what our surroundings may seem.

What do you hear? Fall is quiet, with no familiar sounds.

Seasons are like merry-go-round turns where we can hop on every stop and make the most out of it. The quiet is the perfect time to take in our surroundings. We can use this time to go inwards and fo cus on gratitude as the weather changes to a chilly, dark, and more meaningful time.

Why are trees so carefree and easy going? Because every fall, they let loose.

your health Part 2: Periodontitis: symptoms, Causes, and treatments

• Periodontitis Treatment

When gingivitis progresses to periodontitis, treatment becomes much more complicated. Only your dentist and hygienist can perform periodontal treatment, which involves spe cial dental procedures, and can require oral surgery. If your dentist determines that you have periodontitis, the treatment will depend on the severity of the infection.

Some options include:

tween the jaw bone and gums to allow both bone and tissue to re-grow. Guided tissue regeneration helps keep the gum tissue from expanding into the area where the bone should be, so both bone and tissue grafts have room to grow.

use of an effective oral hygiene regimen, you can keep your gums and teeth healthy.

What is Periodontitis?

Periodontitis

refers to advanced perio dontal disease. With periodontitis, the gum tissue pulls away from the teeth, creating pockets where additional bacteria can build up and cause an infection. Treat ment of advanced periodontal disease is a multi-step process. Sometimes a periodon tist will recommend medications as a firstline treatment for advanced periodontal dis ease before resorting to surgery, depending on the severity of your gum disease.

Periodontitis Symptoms and Causes

Whereas gingivitis symptoms such as sore gums and bleeding gums are bothersome, the early signs of periodontitis include re ceding gums and the formation of pockets between the gums and the teeth. Once the infection gets beneath your gum line, perio dontitis can cause tooth loss and can destroy tissues, ligaments, and bones in the mouth.

Signs of periodontitis include:

Pain when chewing

Poor tooth alignment

Receding gums

Pockets between the teeth and gums

Persistent bad breath

Sores on the inside of the mouth

Loose or sensitive teeth

Tooth Scaling and Root Planing: During this two-step procedure to treat periodontitis, your dental professional will scrape off the tartar that has built up on teeth both above and below the gum line (tooth scaling). Next, your dental professional will smooth rough spots on the tooth roots, mak ing it more difficult for bacteria to collect and cause more plaque and tartar buildup.

Flap Surgery: If the gum inflammation and pockets next to the teeth persist after a deep tooth-cleaning procedure, your dentist may recommend flap surgery. Flap surgery is a common dental procedure to treat peri odontitis that is performed by a specialist called a periodontist. During flap surgery, the tartar is removed from the pockets that have formed alongside the teeth. The pock ets are then closed with stitches, so the gum tissue once again hugs the teeth. Reducing the pockets makes it easier and more com fortable to brush and floss your teeth.

Grafts: In severe cases of periodontitis in which bone and tissue have been destroyed, you may need bone or tissue grafts to replace the infected tissue. Your graft may involve a technique called guided tissue regeneration, in which a small piece of mesh is placed be

Doxycycline Gel: Gel that contains doxy cycline (an antibiotic) provides periodontal disease treatment by killing bacteria and shrinking the pockets that periodontal dis ease can cause around planing procedure. This antibiotic is released gradually over a period of about a week.

Chlorhexidine Chip: Another peri odontal disease treatment involves placing a small, antimicrobial gelatin chip in a tis sue pocket around the gum line after tooth scaling/root planing, and the antimicrobial is released gradually over time.

Minocycline Microspheres:

For this type of periodontal disease treat ment, the periodontist places tiny particles containing minocycline as an antibiotic in the tissue pockets after a tooth scaling/root planing procedure.

Doxycycline Pill: Your periodontist may prescribe an antibiotic pill for periodon tal disease treatment in addition to tooth scaling and root planing. A low-dose doxy cycline pill can help prevent overactive en zymesfrom breaking down gum tissue after periodontal disease treatment.

Prevent Periodontitis: Stop Gingivitis Before It Starts Prevention is the best way to avoid the need for painful, costly, and time-consuming periodontal treatment. By focusing on pre ventive health and oral hygiene through the

To help prevent and reverse gingivitis, an early form of periodontal disease, try a Crest Pro-Health regimen. A Crest Pro-Health Advanced regimen helps protect your teeth and gums. This Crest Pro-Health Advanced regimen includes:

Detoxify Deep Clean can play a key role in at-home treatment of gingivitis, an early form of periodontal disease, by preventing issues before they start. Crest Gum Detoxify can help neutralize the bacteria found in plaque that builds up below the gum line. By using this as your daily toothpaste, it can help reverse early signs of gum disease and give you healthier gums.

Mouthwash: Crest Pro-Health Multi-Pro tection Mouthwash helps reduce gingivitis, an early form of periodontal disease by kill ing germs. Association of Islamic Charitable Projects Celebrates Milad-un-Nabiyy

The annual Multicultural Milad-unNabiyy celebration, organized under the patronage of the esteemed Asso ciation of Islamic Charitable Projects, was held this year on the 9th of October 2022, coinciding with the 12th of Rabi^ il-Awwal. In an annual show of solidarity, social har mony and multiculturalism, this breathtak ing celebration marked the commemoration of the honourable birth of the most beloved, Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).

The AICP was honoured to commemorate the birth of the best of all creations, the mercy to mankind, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), thanking Allah ta^ala for making us amongst the followers of the best of all the prophets.

“The life of Muhammad is a way of life”

– the slogan for this year’s annual Miladun-Nabiyy celebration drew over 1,500 Muslims from across the Lower Mainland, Alberta and Western Washington to attend at the Bell Performing Arts Centre in Surrey, BC. National elites such as his Eminence, AICP Vancouver’s Shaykh ^Abdur-Rahman Sulayman attended the celebration along with community leaders, business people, and sponsors from diverse backgrounds across the Lower Mainland.

Milad-un-Nabiyy, an ancient tradition ob served since the12th century was displayed by Muslims worldwide during this time as they rushed to perform rewardable deeds such as Qur’an recitation, feeding the peo ple, sharing stories of the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) birth and praising Allah and thank ing Him, were met with roaring applause.

The celebration began with a glorious Quranic recitation followed by the perfor mance of the internationally recognized Islamic Chanting Group as they eloquently delivered several heart-warming perfor mances in praise of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) in Arabic and Urdu. Next, a sensational speech by His Eminence Shaykh^ Abdur-Rahman Sulayman– the Shaykh for AICP Vancouver – drew every one’s attention with a powerful and rousing address in Arabic. He set the scene concise ly and highlighted the theme of this year’s Mawlid celebration in the true Arabian style of speech. In his address, the shaykh affirmed that the Mawlid is a gathering of Muslims to perform various acts of worship to thank Allah for guiding us to Islam and for sending the Prophet as our guide and this

agrees with his teachings (peace be upon him).He stressed the importance of fol lowing the true and authentic teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Muslims must adhere to this Authentic creed of Ahlus-Sunnah wal Jama^ah, clearing Al lah from resembling His creations, and lov ing our Grand Prophet as he deserves.

The event ended with a distribution of com plimentary dinners by the AICP, for the love of the Grand Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

The Association of Islamic Charitable Pro jects extends their appreciation to all the guests, volunteers, and to all of whom con tributed to the success of this Multicultural Milad-un-Nabiyy Celebration of 2022. We ask Allah to grant us peace and prosperity in the return of this blessed occasion next year.

Last month, President Vladimir Putin sug gested that Russia is ready to use its nuclear arsenal to protect its territory which now seems to include the recently invaded areas of Ukraine. When these threats were first mentioned, they were seen as a desperate at tempt to gain leverage over the Western al lies of Ukraine. Now, experts believe there is a possibility of nuclear escalation yet chanc es are still relatively low. Thinking rationally, it doesn’t make much sense to destroy terri tory using nuclear power in Ukraine if Putin plans to occupy and use that territory. Ad
