Both magical and mythical, this land of volcanic lakes, spectacular rice terraces, stunning tropical beaches, ancient temples and palaces is an exotic melting pot of cultures and peoples. Bali is an island in the smallest province of Indonesia, and includes a few smaller neighboring islands, notably Nusa Penida. It is located at the western most end of the Lesser Sunda Islands, between Java to the west and Lombok to the east, and the capitol of Denpasar is at the southern part of the island. The flight time from mainland Japan to Bali is approximately 7 ½ hours.

COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY
Although tourism produces the GDP's largest output, agriculture is still the island's biggest employer, most notably rice cultivation. Crops grown in smaller amounts include fruit, vegetables, coffee, and other cash crops. Fishing also provides a significant number of jobs. Bali is famous for its artisans who produce a vast array of handicrafts, including batik and ikat cloth and clothing, wooden carvings, stone carvings, painted art, and silverware. Individual villages typically adopt a single product, such as wind chimes or wooden furniture.

THE PEOPLE
T he Balinese are one of 250 ethnic groups in the Indonesian islands. About 95% of the Balinese are Hindu, a religion stemming from India. After the fall of Majapahit Empire all the Hindu aristocrats and the common people fled to Bali, bringing along their religion, traditions, literature, and arts. Other religions like Christianity, Muslim, and Buddhism are also in Bali, but all the Balinese live in peace; there is no conflict of religion.

BALANGAN BEACH
BEACHES IN BALI
This is one of the top beaches in Bali, located across from the greens of Uluwatu. This is a small and quiet beach, best for those looking for a secret hideaway. The ocean currents are strong and the waves high, and are not recommended for swimming. When the tide is low, it is perfect for strolling along enjoying the sun while the waves lap on your feet.
BIAS TUGAL (TUGEL) BEACH
Also known as Pantai Kecil (little beach) to the locals, or white sand beach to the travelers, this deserted beach is one of Bali's best kept secrets. Tucked away near Padang Bali and west of the harbour it is somewhat hidden and only accessible after a 500 meter trek down a rocky path. After the trek, you will be greeted with a stretch of white sand beach, sparkling blue sea, and swaying coconut trees. Currents may be strong and not for the beginner swimmer, but you can always just soak up the sun in solitude by the sand.
DREAM BEACH IN NUSA LEMBONGAN
Lembongan is a small island about 7 kilometers off the coast of Bali. Dream beach in Nusa Lembongan is known for the serene sea lapping on long sandy bays. It is also covered with big rocks and small vegetation with spots of sandy bays. Most people stay longer at this island to explore all of its beauty. This island is still largely undeveloped unlike the rest of Bali and lets one feel the sense of going back in time, just enjoying the natural beach. 4
NUSA DUA BEACH

This beach has many luxury hotels built around it. There are a variety of flowers and plants that grow around here. Imagine tall palm trees, wild mangroves, fragrant trees, and orchids amidst the clear blue ocean and rolling golden sand. This beach is great for swimming as the currents and waves are low. The water is also crystal clear for snorkeling.
KUTA BEACH
The waves are higher here and the currents are strong, making it a perfect haven for surfers. This beach is always crowded with locals or tourists, mostly for the vibe and energy that circles around it. At night you can find Kuta beach parties among the beach clubs that are guaranteed to entertain. The local Hard Rock CafĂŠ Bali is situated here so you can eat, drink, and party all day and into the night.
PADANG-PADANG BEACH
Located close to the Uluwatu temple, this beautiful beach is surrounded by big rocks, overgrown plants, and monkeys. You will need to get past the narrow passage and steep steps to this hidden paradise. The beach is covered with huge rocks and small caves for exploration and when the tide is high, it is also good for swimming. Just beware of sharp corals and sea urchins. Recently after the Eat, Pray, Love fame this beach had been more crowded than usual. 5

Besakih Village, Rendang Sub-district, Karangasem District Known as Bali’s Mother Temple for over 1,000 years, the Besakih Temple sits 1,000 meters high on the southwestern slopes of Mount Agung. Looking for more Balinese culture? This town is for you! It is located a bit further from the tourist attractions, making it ideal for truly immersing oneself in the Bali culture. Ubud is regarded as the cultural center of Bali. It is an arts and crafts hub, and much of the town and nearby villages seem to consist of artists' workshops and galleries. There are some remarkable architectural and other sights to be found, and a general feeling of well being to be enjoyed, all thanks to the spirit, surroundings, and the climate of the place.

TEGALLALANG Handicrafts Village Tegallalang and nearby villages specialize in the carving of softwood figures. Brightly painted flowers, sign boards, fruits, frogs, Tokay geckos, ducks, cats, and animal figures are all featured heavily here. All the way along the 12 kilometer road, find shops that sell furniture and handicrafts made from glass, wood, bamboo, ceramic, and shells.
Jenggala Jenggala is the most distinguished pottery maker in Bali.
Celuk Village Famous for being a village of gold and silversmiths. Located along the main road from Denpassar to Gianyar, approximately 5 kilometers from Denpassar.
