Family Child Care Recruiting for new FCC providers

What is an FCC provider? FCC providers are certified child care professionals who provide child care for children from infancy until school age in their homes. On Misawa Air Base FCC providers can only provide care on base. FCC providers typically offer a flexible schedule to support parents with a variety of care needs, including full-day, part-day, school year, summer camp, and in some cases, 24/7 and extended care.

*Basic requirements Applicants must be 18+, possess a high school diploma or GED and be able to proficiently read and write in English

Potential Income for FCC providers Income depends on the number of children in care and the number of hours they are in care for the week. FCC providers can earn as much as $60,000 a year. This amount is a combination of both parent fees and the Air Force FCC Extended Child Care Subsidy program. Some FCC providers can even earn more depending on location and the type of care provided: 24/7, military spouse appointment, PCS, hourly, before and after school, Emergency Medical, and other applicable care.

Support provided to FCC providers

• How do FCC providers support the community and why we are looking for more people to become FCC providers?

• • • •

New FCC providers are given a 40 hour free training week. Child care will be provided for free for applicants with children in another FCC provider home. FCC providers have access to a toy lending library, where they can use toys for their FCC business and change out the toys for different ones as needed. Most safety items will be provided (i.e. 1st Aid Kit, cabinet latches, gates, etc.) to safety proof the home and meet regulations. To help with questions or concerns we provide monthly home visits as well as monthly visits from the training specialist to help with children’s activities and curriculum. Providers who commit to providing care can participate in a Misawa housing incentive that would relocate the provider to a unit with two bathrooms and a yard

How to get more information FCC Briefings Tuesdays | Feb. 1, March 1, March 29, April 26, June 7, Aug. 2, Aug. 30, Sept. 27, Oct. 25, and Dec. 20 Wednesday, July 6 6 p.m. Mokuteki Ballroom Applicants can ask questions about becoming an FCC provider as well as what to expect. It is highly recommended to bring your spouse along so they can be part of the process and ask questions. The goal is to start the FCC training week a few weeks after the FCC Informational briefing.

FAST SERVICE

What is the Flyers' concept? Flyers is a fast and friendly to-go style restaurant. We have a fun airplane themed restaurant that capitalizes on the memorabilia that Misawa Air Base has to offer. The design elements are exciting and unique. We are excited and put something together we believe the community will enjoy.

What is exciting about the Flyers’ menu? Our menu will bring back the classic flavors of the Mokuteki pizzas and calzones with a twist! We are adding two new pizzas to the lineup: Chicken Alfredo Pizza and a Barbacoa Pizza! You can now make each and every specialty pizza into a calzone. At Flyers we will also offer some healthy and fresh choices from our Grab-n-Go coolers. The coolers will feature: chicken salad sandwiches, veggie cups and cinnamon honey overnight oats. Our cook, Josie will be coming up with new ideas for our Grab-n-Go section all the time. Check out what’s new on the Flyers' menu by scanning the QR code below straightfrom your mobile device. Flyers is also excited to add chimichangas to our menu. Chimichangas are flaky fried perfection that will bring you back time and time again. Don’t forget the desert! Our new dessert menu will include churros and warm delicious cinnamon sticks with icing. We make the icing ourselves using a childhood recipe.

WITH A SMILE

Will Flyers have Specialty Coffee? The Flyers menu will include all the awesome T’s burritos specialty coffees. Our baristas have also been given the freedom to design new and exciting drinks like the new F-16 and F-35 lattes. Both of these beverages come packed with flavor and come pumped up with an extra espresso shot. We also have some cool twists to non-coffee drinks like our new Bullmosa beverage. The Bullmosa is an orange juice mixed with a Red Bull. You can customize the Bullmosa by adding a flavored syrup.

Why should customers be excited about Flyers? We have combined three things that the Misawa community loves: coffee, pizza and burritos in one convenient location. We have an experienced team of Baristas ready to give you “fast service with a smile”. Our staff also includes a hotshot group of cooks who are excited to provide you with consistency and flavor. This base has never seen such a fresh renovation or a fun concept! We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been up to. Join us for the Flyers grand opening on Monday, Jan. 10, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Leisure TIMES | 19

What is your favorite part about working at the Outdoor Recreation Center?

My absolute favorite part about working at Outdoor Recreation is being able to share my home country with everyone. I get to take service men and women into the wilderness: skiing, hiking, and biking all over Japan. They get to see this amazing place through my eyes, and in return I get to see Japan through their eyes. Seeing the Joy and excitement on their faces allows me to see this amazing place for the first time over and over again!

What do you wish the Misawa community knew about your programs?

Outdoor Recreation Center Mountain Guide 28 | January 2022

What is your best ODR memory?

There are so many, hundreds of experiences and encounters that have shaped who I am, I’m not sure I can choose just one. However, definitely one of my favorite trips was in the Hakkoda backcountry with an awesome group. We got up early and headed to the mountain as we knew there was a huge storm the night before. As we wound our way up a dark road through heavy fog, the anticipation grew… would we even be able to see where we were going? Then, just as we got to our location, the clouds broke open revealing a perfectly clear sky and fresh snowfall as far as we could see. We watched the sunrise on our hike up the mountain, and painted epic tracks down the face of the mountain. As the day wound to an end, we set up a snow camp and spent the evening reliving such an amazing day. All of these people who were just strangers yesterday were friends, bound by one incredible experience. That is what Outdoor Recreation is about, and that is why it is such a strong memory for me.
