HALESTORM DESCENDS ON MISAWA
SAMPLE
MARCH 2018
ARMED FORCES ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS: HALESTORM
Widely acknowledged as one of modern hard rock’s most explosive live acts, the Grammy Award winning band released their third studio album, Into the Wildlife in 2015 and will fi nish Until their new album in 2018. Recorded in Nashville with Grammy-nominated producer Jay Joyce at the helm, Into the Wildlife was highlighted by the historic new single, “Apocalyptic.” The track ascended to the top at Active Rock radio outlets nationwide in an astounding nine weeks—the fi rst time a femalefronted band has scored #1 hits at the format three times as well as the fi rst to have #1 songs from two consecutive albums. Halestorm’s just-released EP of cover songs, Reanimate 3.0, came in at #5 on the Billboard/Soundscan charts earlier this year. The band has seen incredible success in addition to two #1 rock singles and a top five album, as they also had their song “Here’s To Us” performed on Glee, won a Grammy, performed at the AP Music Awards, have had multiple magazine covers and sold out US and European tours. Auto Complex Did you know? A pre-JCI inspection should be done with us even if you are planning on doing the JCI yourself. We can assist with the whole process and provide advice.
What is JCI? Japanese Compulsory Inspection or JCI is a safety inspection required for all vehicles registered in Japan and it must be renewed every two years. The Pit Stop Garage can do this inspection, along with the requisite paperwork and registration updates. JCI inspections are very thorough, and may or may not require repairs on inspected vehicles. To allow time for repairs, inspections should be scheduled a minimum of two weeks to one month prior to the date of expiration listed on the vehicle’s title.
The Testing Process The JCI inspection tests the following areas: • Exterior - the vehicle must meet Japanese exterior regulations and not have illegal exterior modifications, such as extreme body kits that increase the exterior dimensions • Wheel Alignment - the vehicle’s wheels must be in-line and able to turn correctly • Speedometer - the vehicle’s speedometer must be accurate • Headlamp - the vehicle’s headlights must be correctly placed and aligned • Brakes - the vehicle’s brakes must work correctly • Exhaust Gas/Muffler - tests carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions along with exhaust noise levels • Undercarriage - inspects suspension parts and checks for rust which is common here in Misawa *Should a car not meet any of the test standards, repairs must be made before passing the JCI inspection.
JCI Procedure 1. 2.
3. 4.
Where Should I Go? The Misawa Auto Complex’s Pit Stop Garage performs a full JCI inspection from start to finish. Misawa is the only base in Japan that performs JCI inspections on site. The Pit Stop Garage is licensed through the government of Japan to perform JCI inspections and they are not required to take the vehicles to the Land and Transportation Office (LTO). The JCI inspector comes to us, collects the JCI fee in yen and completes your paperwork for renewal. Misawa Auto Complex makes the JCI process simple— you'll never need to leave base, from the initial inspection to picking up your new, updated title and sticker.
5. 6. 7. 8.
We thoroughly inspect the vehicle to find any discrepancies that would cause the system to fail. Once the inspection is complete, if there are any problems, the Pit Stop Garage will obtain estimates on the cost of the parts from stores in the local area. Once the parts store estimates are calculated, we notify you of the cost. Customers pay in advance for parts needed so that the Pit Stop Garage can order and replace the part. A second appointment is then scheduled to replace the parts that aren't functioning properly. Once the vehicle is repaired, the yen portion of the bill is totalled and paid by the customer. Once the JCI is completed, a temporary JCI sticker is given with a copy of the JCI policy. A permanent JCI sticker and your new title will be available at the Pit Stop Garage the Friday following the JCI procedure.

S
umo wrestling is a deep-seated tradition in Japanese culture and is closely aligned with Shinto, the native religion of Japan. The first sumo matches were held on the grounds of Shinto shrines to honor the kami, or spirits, and to ensure a bountiful harvest. Sumo matches have evolved over time and are now held in arenas in cities across Japan, but the essence of the sport is still performed with Shinto customs, dress and rituals at its core. Today, sumo wrestling has become a world-renowned spectator sport. Head to the Grand Sumo Tournament in Tokyo with Misawa ITT to see live sumo matches!
The Ring There are many components that make up the sumo wrestling ring that pay homage to its Shinto heritage. The canopy suspended over the ring, or yakata, is made to look like the roof of a Shinto shrine and its purpose is to represent the sky and designate the ring as a holy place. Colorful silk tassels hang from each corner of the yakata and represent the four seasons. The green, red, white and black tassels signify spring, summer, fall and winter respectively. The clay ring below, called the dohyo, represents the earth. The referee, known as the gyoji, represents the Shinto priest and is always dressed in a traditional outfit. Before each Grand Sumo Tournament, a ring-entering ceremony is held to remind the wrestlers of their religious duties and to purify the ring according to Shinto customs.
The Wrestler The regulations, rules and everyday lives of sumo wrestlers is anything but easy. One may assume that due to their weight, sumo wrestlers have a fun and lavish lifestyle. This is not the case. Wrestlers live, eat, practice and sleep inside the sumobeya, or stable, managed by a stable master. Mornings in the stable begin around 5 a.m. for the unranked wrestlers who help cook, clean and assist higher ranked members. Each sumo wrestler is classified by a ranking hierarchy, or banzuke, which is adjusted by each wrestler’s performance in tournaments. There are six divisions that make up the professional sumo divisions with the yokozuna being the highest possible rank. Once this ranking is achieved, the sumo wrestler cannot be demoted. Newly promoted yokozuna perform their first ringentering ceremony at the Meiji Shrine in Tokyo.
The Match Matches generally only take seconds to conclude. The first sumo wrestler who is thrown out of the ring or touches the ground with any other part of his body besides his feet loses. Matches do not have weight restrictions and often pair sumo wrestlers with largely different weight classes together, making weight gain an advantage in the sport. LT 15
