PIT STOP GARAGE
BLDG. 965 226-9486
We recommend getting a pre-JCI inspection done with us even if you are planning on doing the JCI yourself. We can assist with the whole process and provide advice.
WHAT IS JCI?
Japanese Compulsory Inspection, or JCI, is a safety inspection required for all vehicles registered in Japan and it must be renewed every two years. The Pit Stop Garage can do this inspection, along with the requisite paperwork and registration updates. JCI inspections are very thorough, and may or may not require repairs on inspected vehicles. To allow time for repairs, inspections should be scheduled a minimum of two weeks to one month prior to the date of expiration listed on the vehicle’s title.
THE TESTING PROCESS
The JCI inspection tests the following areas:
• Exterior - the vehicle must meet Japanese exterior regulations and not have illegal exterior modications, such as extreme body kits that increase the exterior dimensions.
• Wheel Alignment - the vehicle’s wheels must be in-line and able to turn correctly.
• Speedometer - the vehicle’s speedometer must be accurate.
• Headlamp - the vehicle’s headlights must be correctly placed and aligned.
• Brakes - the vehicle’s brakes must work correctly.
• Exhaust Gas/Muffler - tests carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions along with exhaust noise levels.
• Undercarriage - inspects suspension parts and checks for rust, which is common here in Misawa.
* Should a car not meet the test standards, repairs must be made before passing the JCI inspection.
WHERE SHOULD I GO?
The Misawa Auto Complex’s Pit Stop Garage performs a full JCI inspection from start to nish. Misawa is the only base in Japan that performs JCI inspections on site. The Pit Stop Garage is licensed through the government of Japan to perform JCI inspections and they are not required to take the vehicles to the Land and Transportation Office (LTO). The JCI inspector comes to us, collects the JCI fee in yen and completes your paperwork for renewal. Misawa Auto Complex makes the JCI process simple—you'll never need to leave base, from the initial inspection to picking up your new, updated title and sticker.
JCI PROCEDURE
We thoroughly inspect the vehicle to nd any discrepancies that would cause the system to fail.
1. Once the inspection is complete, if there are any problems, the Pit Stop Garage will obtain estimates on the cost of the parts from stores in the local area.
2. Once the parts store estimates are calculated, we notify you of the cost.
3. Customers pay in advance for parts needed so that the Pit Stop Garage can order and replace the part.
4. A second appointment is then scheduled to replace the parts that aren't functioning properly.
5. After the vehicle is repaired, the yen portion of the bill is totalled and paid by the customer.
6. Once the JCI is completed, a temporary JCI sticker is given with a copy of the JCI policy.
7. A permanent JCI sticker and your new title will be available at the Pit Stop Garage the Friday following the JCI procedure.

Plan Renovations
Banzai's Playground
This renovation was done in an effort to create an indoor environment aimed at servicing the family needs of the Misawa Air Base community. This project is another one of 35th Force Support Squadron’s continued effort for improvements of its’ facilities and aesthetics.
Banzai’s Playground is arranged by ages and designed to offer multiple zones to stimulate milestone advancement for children ranging from 23 months & under, 2–4 years, and 5–12 years old. These creative zones offer area of exploration, imagination and exercise. Playground users can expect to nd a wealth of enrichment in the play areas with building blocks, games, a jungle-gym and a rest area for parents to keep a watchful eye on the kids.
As part of the continued facility enrichment Community Commons is continuing to grow programs for youth and families.

NAF EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
GROUP LIFE AND MEDICAL INSURANCE (REGULAR EMPLOYEES)
If you are a regular category employee, you are eligible to enroll in the group life carried by Minnesota Life Insurance Company and/or health insurance plan, AETNA (DoD Health Benets Program). Your health insurance becomes effective the day you sign the enrollment form, whereas, you must be employed continuously for one month as a regular employee before your life insurance becomes effective. Your family members may be eligible for enrollment in the life and health insurance plans also. You may obtain more information on benets and costs from the HRO.
RETIREMENT PROGRAM
If you have 12 months of regular Air Force NAF service and are currently a regular employee, you are eligible to enroll in the USAF NAF Retirement Plan. This program provides retirement, disability and death benets. These benets, combined with Social Security, will give you, the retired or disabled employee, or your eligible survivor a measure of nancial security. You will be provided more information on the plan upon becoming eligible to participate.
401(K) SAVINGS PLAN
If you are a regular employee you are eligible to participate in the NAF 401(K) Savings Plan. It is a retirement savings plan that allows you to set aside a portion of your salary with special tax advantages. You decide the amount of money you want to contribute to the plan, from 1% to 92% each pay period. The amount you contribute is deducted from your paycheck on a pretax basis before taxes are taken out. The Air Force will match contributions up to 3% depending on the amount your contribute. You can invest your money in any of the 20+ investment options, each with a different degree of risk and reward potential. Your investment options will help you design your own personal investment strategy. You will receive quarterly statements so you can keep track of your investments. You won’t owe taxes on your contributions or on any money they earn, until you withdraw the money from the plan. You will be provided more information on the Savings Plan upon becoming eligible to participate.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT WORKING AT THE POST OFFICE?
My favorite part about working in the Post Office is being able to service our customers at the parcel pickup window because I get the chance to interact with the entire base community.
WHAT DO YOU WISH THE MISAWA COMMUNITY KNEW ABOUT YOUR FACILITY?
I wish our customers knew about how damaged mail comes to the Post Office. Mail is subject to a lot of abuse since it goes through several different USPS facilities across all the United States and other countries before it comes to the Misawa Post Office. Unfortunately, sometimes packages end up getting damaged on the way. We do try to educate customers as much as we can.
WHAT IS YOUR BEST MEMORY WORKING AT THE POST OFFICE?
There’s too many memories for me to pick just one, but I would say all the friends I have made over the years here are all equally my favorite.
