Australia is the smallest continent, but the 6th largest country in the world. The most populated areas of Australia are located along the eastern and southeastern coasts. The geography is extremely diverse, ranging from snow capped mountains of the Australian Alps in Tasmanian to large deserts and tropical temperate forests.
Surrounded by the Tasman Sea to the east, Blue Mountains to the west, Hawkesbury River to the north, and the Royal National park to the south, this city offers something to do for every type of tourists. Australia is located in Oceania between the Indian Ocean and the South Pacific Ocean. The Australian mainland has a total coastline lengths of 35,876 km. Australia has the largest area of ocean jurisdiction of any country on earth. Australia is the lowest, flattest and oldest continental landmass on Earth. A total of 18% of Australia is desert. The flight time from mainland Japan to Sydney is approximately 10 hours.
Sydney is Australia’s largest and most famous city with a growing population of over 4.6 million. It is home to beautiful beaches, iconic buildings, historic landmarks, awardwinning restaurants and a vibrant culture. Sydney is ranked highly for the quality of life. It has hosted multiple major sporting events to include the 2000 Summer Olympics.

Food is a highlight point for most visitors. Australia is famously known for fish and chips. There are a variety of cuisines for every hungry traveler in Sydney ranging from Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Mexican, Vietnamese and local dishes. Vegemite is a local food paste that everyone should try. The spread is used for sandwiches, toasts, crumpets and cracker biscuits. The flavor of Vegemite is acquired and not favored by everyone’s taste buds.
Although Sydney’s climate is temperate year-round, summer in Sydney is spectacular. The seasons are opposite in Australia compared to the United States, Europe, and Asia. Summer in Australia means winter everywhere else in the world and winter in Australia means summer.

The city of Sydney is built on hills surrounding Port Jackson, which is also known as Sydney Harbour. A famous attraction that draws many tourist to Sydney is the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Other famous attractions that Sydney is famously known for are Bondi Beach, Blue Mountains, Hyde Park, Circular Quay, Bridge Climb and Sydney Tower Eye. There are many well renowned museums and art galleries in the city. Some of the famous are Museum of Contemporary Art, White Rabbit Gallery, Powerhouse Museum and Museum of Sydney. Some of Australia’s largest social and cultural events are held in Sydney such as Sydney Festival, Big Day Out, Sydney Film Festival and Sculpture by the Sea.

SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE
Sydney Opera House is famously known in the UNESCO World Heritage as of June 2007. This is one of the highly recommended sights to visit while touring in Sydney. The opera house has several different venues such as The Concert Hall, Joan Sutherland Theatre, Drama Theatre, Playhouse, Studio, Utzon Room and Forecourt. The Concert Hall is the largest venue with 2,679 seats and contains the largest Grand Organ in the world with over 10,000 pipes. There are also restaurants, bars, cafĂŠs, and souvenir shops located throughout the facility.
SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a steel invention that carries rail, vehicles, bicycle and pedestrian traffic between the central business district and North Shore. The bridge is nicknamed The Coathanger because of the arch shaped design. It is the sixth longest and tallest spanning arch bridge in the world. The bridge climb is a very famous tourist activity. The bridge climb offers a 360 degree panorama of Sydney. 5

A trip to Sydney requires a visit to the famous World Heritage Blue Mountains. It is considered one of Australia’s most spectacular icons. There are several must dos at the Blue Mountains such as Echo Point Lookout, Wentworth Falls, Scenic World Blue Mountains, Govetts Leap Lookout, Jenolan Caves and the Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens Mt. Tomah. There are restaurants, shopping, golfing, arts and culture all in one location.

Circular Quay is well known as one of Sydney’s best attractions. On a stroll around Circular Quay, you will run into the Sydney Opera House and Royal Botanic Gardens. Strolling along this path allows tourists the chance to capture some stunning photos of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. There are several dining options for tourist with a huge array of bars, cafés, and restaurants.

Hyde Park is Australia’s oldest and well known park. Located in the heart of central Sydney, there is no shortage of lush green grass or trees. The park has several historical sites and a museum. Hyde Park is a hangout for many of the locals and sunbathers.

Ranked as one of the safest building’s in the world, the Sydney Tower Eye is a must do on every tourist list. The tower was built to withstand natural disasters such as earthquakes and extreme wind conditions. The height of the tower is 309 meters which is approximately 1013 feet. Located inside the tower are two levels of restaurants, a coffee lounge, observation deck and two telecommunication levels. An observation deck with restaurant is located near the top.

Located 30 minutes from Sydney, one of the most famous beaches in the world is Bondi Beach. It is known as a surfer's paradise destination for riding the waves. A walk along the beachfront promenade provides tourists with the carefree sundrenched lifestyle. The main area offers surf wear shops, souvenirs, outdoor cafes, and fish & chips eateries.
