Dear Readers, Welcome to the first edition of the Miss Caribbean UK magazine. Each quarter we bring you latest news and updates regarding the Miss Caribbean UK 2017 pageant. Miss Caribbean United Kingdom was set up as an event to promote all the different Caribbean countries under one umbrella. The event uses a pageant to promote, educate, inspire and celebrate the historical and cultural impact of the Caribbean within the United Kingdom.

The MCUK organisers, Clayton and Jacqui Brown, have expressed that: “We want to be a vehicle, to assist in bringing the Caribbean and its diaspora within the UK, closer. We want the old and younger generation Caribbean descendants to recognise the influence and impact that the Caribbean Diaspora has had on UK culture and thus, appreciate the importance of retaining the link with their Caribbean heritage.” To facilitate this objective MCUK holds heats across the UK. To date we have held heats and created contacts with BAME communities in; Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Sheffield, Bristol, Liverpool and London. Miss Caribean Uk 2017 will reach more communities across the UK and connect more people than ever before and we welcome you along for the journey. MCUK; POSITIVELY PROMOTING THE CARIBBEAN. Message from the outgoing Miss Caribbean UK Queen 2015

Miss Amy Harris-Willock

A

fter a year of jubilation, I can truly say entering Miss Caribbean UK was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. My reign as Queen is coming to an end, but a life filled with opportunities from entering Miss Caribbean UK has just begun. It’s been such a busy year where I’ve experienced hitting the red carpet, walking the runway at Afro Hair and Beauty and being part of the parade at Notting Hill Carnival. But the highlight of my year was building a connection with the High Commission of Antigua and Barbuda. Not only have I been able to be a part of their fundraising events, I am now an active member with every intention of making a difference. To top off the year, I had the wonderful opportunity of travelling to Antigua, courtesy of sponsor SN Travel and Designer Travel. During my stay I was treated like royalty. It’s not every day you get to meet the Antiguan Prime Minster and members of Parliament and suddenly realise; “wow I aspire to be in their position one day”. I attended St Joseph’s Academy and Clare Hall Secondary School where I was able to give back to the students. It was here I realised my purpose in life, inspiring and becoming a true “Ambassador” for Antigua and Barbuda. Miss Caribbean UK has given me the platform to believing anything is possible and opened doors that I could have never imagined. I would like to thank Clayton and Jacqui Brown, the Founders of Miss Caribbean UK, for all their hard work and support during my reign. Being Miss Caribbean UK has been such an honour and a blessing that I hope to inspire the next queen to find their greatness.

Your 2015 Queen....Amy xxx www.misscaribbeanuk.com

ENDORSEMENTS SONI MAKEOVERS TEAM An absolute pleasure working @ Miss Caribbean U.K.third year in a row.. & congratulations to Jacqui & Clayton Brown for another successful year.. A big thanks to my team Olesia Andrejeva, Lisa Mulas for running everything smoothly backstage ..love the vibrant photographs taken by Dinesh Joshi..

rebranding and focusing on Bridal events, Pageants & Fashion Shows etc this timing was beyond perfect... You are both amazing & the event truly showed that. During this whole process we saw her growth. In the high fashion & beauty sectors, for generations there have been many discriminations such as size, skin colour & height!! She kicked down this barrier, as she is a Beautiful "Dark Skinned" Woman, is 5ft2 in height and a curvy size 12!!! But she "embraced her individuality" and went in with her uniqueness!! On the night she won a "Peoples Choice Award!" Congratulations Team MCUK. You had a vision & went straight for it.. We are glad & truly honoured to have taken this journey with you!! Thank U for choosing us, you are a prime example of a "Versatilia Rosa" (Versatile Rose)

THE CONCRETE VERSATILIA ROSA TEAM We would like to congratulate Miss "Tanya Rose Brown" also known as Tempaa Benz for her amazing performance & winning of her award at the amazing annual "Miss Caribbean UK" pageant 'positively promoting the Caribbean. She was one of the finalist!! We also want to thank the amazing founders Jacqui Brown & Clayton Brown for kindly allowing us the opportunity to sponsor & support the event, as we are currently

Hi, I’m Dean Dufurn. I was born in the North of England to a Haitian father and a Jamaican mother. Growing up I was exposed to both cultures and environments, from this I’d say my most indelible experiences as a child was when I had the pleasure of visiting the birth countries of my parents and soaking up the exciting and varied cultures of each. This gave me an interest in the wider world outside my own surroundings, and it was here that I began to develop an eye towards the profusion of the Art, Fashion and Design that surrounded me. As I matured, so did my sense of style and my desire to create. I wanted to create statement pieces of art that would last forever, and that people would enjoy. It is from here that I fell in love with tailored designs and from here Dufurn Tailored was born. I create pieces that are individually tailored, combining your ideas with my own

Maria Peters

Dufurn Tailored

Born on the beautiful tropical island of Montserrat WI also known as the Emerald Isle, I started sewing at the young age of 11; designing and hand stitching unique dresses for dolls.

By age 15 I knew how to use the handsewing machine and began creating my first real dress collection. From that moment on I knew my true passion was in sewing, fashion and design. My inspiration came abundantly from my creative parents, Caribbean culture and global arts. As I got older I became more and more passionate about having a career in fashion and went on to study tailoring and design professionally in the UK. Today I’m founder of my own fashion label Kreative Stitch and some of my many crafts include menswear, ladies wear, wedding and pageantry dresses. T - 07751 276 516 E - Kreatstitch@hotmail.co.uk
