The gift of Christmas It was a cold, winter day in December. A small girl stared out the window of the trailer she lived in with her parents and brother. She had short, black hair and was very thin. Her family was poor. As she stared out the window, she thought. She often thought around Christmas. She thought about how near Christmas was. Although her family was much too poor to do any celebrating, as a young child she still got very excited about these things. She thought about how lovely a Christmas would be. A tree, gifts, a huge feast, family, decorations, it was almost too much for her to comprehend! But the small girl knew that these wonderful things might never come to her. Still, every year she hoped that maybe one day Christmas would come. The next day was Christmas Eve. She and her brother went out into a nearby forest to play in the snow. The beautiful snow on the trees shimmered like a quiet lake being hit by the summer
sun·s rays. The two children played all day. They made big, glistening snow forests and snow angels. It began to grow dark. The full moon reflected off the pure white snow, making it look light blue against the navy blue night sky. The stars shone brighter than the little girl had ever seen. Small flakes of delicate snow began to fall. The forest was serene and tranquil the Beauty of the scene touched the young girl·s heart. She sighed peacefully. Then her brother announced it was time to head back. At home, the girl fell asleep very quickly. She woke up to the next morning just as the sun began to slowly rise over the snowy eastern mountains. She went into the living room. Nobody else was awake yet. She left the trailer. The icy snow crunched under her feet. She like the noise that it made. She crunched and stomped on farther. Awhile into her walk, she passed an old Victorian house. An old man in a rocking chair was sitting on the front porch. “Hey!”
the scottishman called to the little girl. “What·s a wee thing like you doing out in the cold on Christmas?” The girl walked over to the porch. “Taking a walk,” she replied. He stared at her in shock. “Well, come inside for goodness sakes. It·s freezing out here!” He got up and slowly walked inside. The young girl followed. The old man gave some hot chocolate. The little girl looked around the room. She noticed there were no gifts or decorations. “Don·t you have a tree?” she asked. “Or decorations, or presents?” The man sat down in the chair next to her. “Actually,” he said, “I don·t.” The girl was puzzled. “Don·t you celebrate Christmas?” she asked. The man nodded. “You don·t need a tree or gifts to have Christmas.” He told her. “Christmas is about sharing and giving and spending time with your family.” Then the little girl realized she had been wrong. She had Christmas all along. She just had to look in her heart. By Baylee, Age 10, Dewdney

Advice for Santa Claus
To our Valued Customers
Dear Santa: You·re getting a little to clumpy and chunky. I have some suggestions to fix that. First you have been eating way too many cookies. You should make yourself a work out centre and use it 4 hours a day because you weigh 450 pound. Your reindeer are so tired of carrying you around. Martin, Gr. 6 Cherry Hill
Dear Santa, It has come to my attention that you have been taking too long on your trips around the world delivering presents. We even heard that you almost missed a house last year! Anyway, I have a few suggestions that my help you speed up your deliverys this year and up coming years. 1. you should
ALWAYS make sure that the brakes are on when you park the sleigh and also that you park the sleigh safely on the roof. (Remember last year when you had to take all that time to pick up those presents you dropped when the sleigh fell off those roofs?) 2. You may want to wear a gas mask when you go down the chimney because the smoke and gases can slow you down. 3. Also, I heard that fog is predicted to cover most of the world for Christmas this year, so make sure that Rudolph·s nose is shining bright! (Remember the past few years where you took a few wrong left turns and got lost! You forgot to make sure that Rudolph would light his nose up properly!) Hope you use my ad-
vice Santa! Love Sierra, Gr. 5 Cherry Hill Dear Santa, I am from the department of transportation (D.O.T.). It has come to my attention that the weight of you and the presents is over the legal weight limit for small aircraft. You will either have to upgrade your reindeer with custom parts (cost $10,000), get more flying reindeer (cost $5,000) or lose weight (cost $0). If you choose to lose weight you should take a daily run around the north Pole. You should also lay off the cookies and have vegetables instead. You should also have milk or water instead of pop and eggnog. Brendan (D.O.T.), Gr. 6, Cherry Hill

How the Elves saved Christmas
Santa·s elves were very upset because Christmas might be cancelled. The toy machine was broken so they made toys by hand. They made teddy bears, boardgames, barbies dolls, dollhouses, clothes, stuffies, books and instruments. After they finished they were so tired they fell asleep. After they were asleep, santa came in and said “what in the name of sam hill is going on”? One little elf was getting ready to speak but one other elf covered the little
elf·s mouth before he could speak. Santa said “well are you going to tell me”? One elf spoke up and said “the toy machine is broken” Santa said “why didn·t you tell me” Another elf said “we though you would be mad so we didn·t tell you”. “I·m not made” said santa “I can fix it” “ok” said one elf. so santa fixed it and it was working again and Christmas was not cancelled. The elves learned honesty is the best policy. By Lindsey, Gr. 3, Dewdney
Unappreciated
Santa·s elves were very upset because they·re very hard working and unappreciated. They were so upset they broke stuff. Then Santa came in and called a meeting. The elves admitted that they wanted to be appreciated. Santa said he would send them on a vacation after Christmas each year. The elves would vote on where they wanted to go. Buses, not rail, laid out in Valley transit vision WCE extension to Abby also deemed not cost-effective BY JEFF NAGEL Black Press
The Fraser Valley needs to get — and pay for — a much higher level of bus service, but a rail transit service that would wind its way along the old Interurban line is not among the recommended options. A long-awaited provincial government review of Fraser Valley transit concludes a new commuter rail service on the Interurban corridor from Abbotsford to Surrey would cost $70 million a year — almost as much as a much more urgently needed expansion in local, regional and interregional bus service that would take the current system from $11 million a year to $90 million. Providing premium express bus service on Highway 1 in dedicated lanes would be much cheaper than
rail, it says, freeing up more money for the improved bus service, which is estimated to serve 20 times as many passengers. “Although an inter-regional railway service between the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver may be part of a long-term future, a strong foundation of local, regional and inter-regional services as presented in the Vision is an essential starting point,” read the review. A rail service all the way from Chilliwack to Surrey would cost $112 million a year, it says. That rail option cost is based on a peak-only service using heavy diesel trains like the West Coast Express — not the light-rail modern trams that Rail For The Valley fans contend could provide an all-day communityoriented service at modest cost. More passengers would likely be served using light-rail trains, the analysis shows, but at a higher cost of $108 million per year to Abbotsford and $176 million to Chilliwack. Dismal transit service, low ridership in valley
A review of transit service in the Fraser Valley lists suggestions for improving ridership, including extending West Coast Express from Mission to Abbotsford. RECORD FILE PHOTO
Report recommends five-fold increase to local bus service ”
From BUSES Page 9
John Buker said the analysis is flawed and the results are “strongly biased” against light rail, particularly in terms of its ridership estimates. The report recommends a fivefold increase in local bus service in the Valley to 420,000 service hours over the next 20 years, up from 85,000 today. Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines would let passengers board every 10 minutes or less on the hightraffic South Fraser Way and Yale Road corridors. Express bus routes using more comfortable highway coaches would link Abbotsford west through Langley along both the Highway 1 and Fraser Highway corridors to SkyTrain in Surrey or else Burnaby via the new Port Mann Bridge. Another express route would go north from Abbotsford to Mission and then west through Maple Ridge and on to the Tri-Cities. Others would connect Abbotsford to Chilliwack and Chilliwack to both Agassiz and Hope. The highway buses would range from service as often as every 10 minutes to hourly (to Agassiz) and five trips per day to Hope. Also envisioned are grids of interconnected frequent transit cor-
... it is extremely doubtful that ridership will be high enough to sustain these levels of service without a light rail backbone. – John Buker, Rail for the Valley
ridors — guaranteeing buses every 15 minutes, 15 hours a day. Those plans recognize the fact 80 per cent of all trips in the Valley are by residents traveling in their home community, so future service must be largely geared to local destinations, not commuting long distances across the Lower Mainland. Local transit service should increase from 350 per cent in Abbotsford to more than 600 per cent in Chilliwack, it says, much of it concentrated on the urban areas. Consultants also looked at extending West Coast Express 11 kilometres across the Fraser River into downtown Abbotsford. Various upgrades would be required, including new Abbotsford and Silverdale stations, new or expanded park-and-rides and a re-
location of the Mission WCE station, along with transit tie-ins. But the $11.6-million annual cost of the Abbotsford WCE extension would be far greater than the proposed new express bus service to Mission, which would operate much more frequently (every 10 minutes at peak times, 20 minutes off-peak versus 30 minutes for WCE at peak times only, no service at off-peak times.) Ten per cent of West Coast Express traffic already comes from the Fraser Valley. About 6,000 daily passengers board at Mission — 10 per cent of total WCE traffic — with about 56 per cent of them from Mission and 38 per cent from Abbotsford. Since expanded rail isn’t discarded forever, the reports say rail corridors should be retained for a possible future service. Buker said rail lines shouldn’t be shelved. “There are some nice ideas presented of enhanced local bus service which deserve a closer look, but the hard truth is it is extremely doubtful that ridership will be high enough to sustain these levels of services without a light rail backbone,” he said. Local cities and BC Transit are to work on shorter-term plans in the next few years to start delivering the 20-year strategy.

Just one per cent of trips made in the Fraser Valley Regional District are on transit, compared to three per cent in Kelowna and Kamloops, eight per cent in Victoria and 11 per cent in Metro Vancouver. The findings of the province’s Strategic Review of Transit in the Fraser Valley show the region is woefully underserved by transit relative to other areas. Valley residents also pay less in property taxes for transit — just $4 to $14 per person compared to $26 in the Okanagan cities and $130 in Metro Vancouver. The existing transit system in the Valley needs steady revenue increases of 7.6 per cent per year from local, regional and provincial sources. Higher property taxes, fares, provincial contributions and “new revenue sources” will all be needed to deliver the needed cash. Adding a one-cent per litre gas tax in the FVRD — much less than the 12 cents charged in Metro Vancouver — would generate $4.1 million a year, the report shows, by way of example.

And to all a good night • Born about 300 AD in Turkey and given the name Nicholas. • Became the bishop of Myra and was later named St. Nicholas. Even as a boy he had a habit of giving gifts to the poor. • St. Nicholas was recognized by the church with a feast day every Dec. 6; his festival was brought to New Amsterdam (now New York) about 300 years ago. • Santa’s current image came in 1931 Santa Claus when an advertising illustrator in Chicago, Hadden Sundblom, began a series of paintings for Coca-Cola advertisements. The corporate colours were red and white so Santa was depicted in a red suit with white fur trim.

Proactive police programs paying off, says inspector BY JASON ROESSLE Mission Record
Mission’s grow operation enforcement strategy is working and crime rates are dropping throughout the municipality, according to the local police inspector. RCMP Insp. Pat Walsh spoke at last week’s Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce luncheon and touched on a trio of items, starting with the changes to drunk driving laws and penalties. “The criminal law has not changed one bit,” he stated. “There have been minor changes to civil law.” Walsh refuted criticisms that police have upped their presence around drinking establishments
now that the penalties for being caught blowing over 0.06. “Our operations have not changed. There is no more focus on drinking and driving,” he said. Marijuana grow ops When Walsh took command of the detachment in 2004, Mounties were taking down approximately 10-12 grows a year and dealing with 200 complaints a year. Fast forward to 2010 and a dedicated grow op team is busting an average of 60-70 grows a year, said Walsh. The inspector also defended the Public Safety Inspection Team, noting their work keeps first responders — such as police, fire-
fighters and paramedics — safe when entering some grow operations, which regularly present dangerous conditions. Crime reduction strategy Implemented in 2005, Walsh notes this strategy needed to be intelligence led where the root causes of crime, the areas in which it happens and who’s committing the crimes are known and attacked. As well, Walsh touched on the zone policing endeavour which has split Mission RCMP’s coverage area into five zones; four are assigned constables to focus on proactive policing. The fifth zone, Sumas Mountain, does not have an officer.

Mission to join Bizpal in January BY CAROL AUN Mission Record
The District of Mission will be joining Bizpal next year. Municipalities can join this provincial program to help potential developers and other business prospects determine the approvals and licenses
required from the three levels of government. Bizpal was introduced to council by the Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce about a month ago. Chamber president Helen Secco said it started as a pilot project in 2004 and there is no cost to municipalities.
Mission RCMP still seeking grow rip suspects A 42-year-old man was shot and restrained by five other men who broke into a residence in the 29900-block of Dewdney Trunk Road Dec. 14 at around 9 p.m. Mission RCMP say the five unidentified males burst into the house, shot the occupant — who sustained non-life threatening injuries — and stole numerous items from the
house including cash, three guns and marijuana which was being grown on the property. A Mountie press release said the suspects fled in an unknown vehicle and the attack is believed to be targeted. If you have information, call 604-826-7161, or to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
MMH more efficient Mission Memorial Hospital (MMH) will receive a $240,760 capital grant for energy efficiency upgrades. The joint Fraser Health Authority and MMH plans call for a boiler replacement and variablefrequency drive installation for general supply and exhaust fans. Once complete, an estimated $7,600 will be saved annually.
The capital grants from B.C.’s Public Sector Energy Conservation Agreement (PSECA) kick off 23 energy improvement projects in colleges, universities, hospitals, health care centres and other public sector buildings throughout the province. For more information visit www.env.gov. bc.ca/cas/mitigation/ pseca.html.
In her presentation to council, Secco noted the program’s benefits for government include increased efficiency and cost effectiveness and voluntary compliance by business, a comprehensive inventory and documentation of permits and licenses, and better service to busi-
ness clients. Benefits for businesses, she explained, include less time searching, understanding and fulfilling obligations, a convenient and fast access 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and a whole government approach where governments work together for

business. The program will utilize Mission’s website and once everything is in place — which the district anticipates will happen by the end of January — it will be up to municipal staff to update information and ensure links are accurate and working.

THE MISSION RECORD – THURSDAY, DECEMBER 23, 2010
OPINION
Published and printed by Black Press Ltd. at Mission at 33047 First Ave., V2V 1G2
The gift of you It’s estimated the average Canadian will spend more than $1,100 this Christmas season buying gifts, entertaining, traveling to be with family or friends for the holidays. In total, we’ll spend more than $28 billion in retail stores in the month of December. But the greatest gift of all won’t drain your wallet or stress the limit on your credit card. It’s you. According to Volunteer Canada, 12.5 million Canadians give some of their free time to help out in their communities. They’re coaches, mentors, advocates, activists or firefighters. They staff the offices of community organizations, serve on their boards of directors, raise money to keep those organizations going. They put on or help out at community events. They help care for and comfort people in need, or who just require a friend or sympathetic ear. They cut grass, shovel snow, clean ravines and shorelines. They walk dogs, shelter cats, tend homeless snakes, raise fish so creeks and streams may teem with life. They construct, create and calculate. Volunteers touch every aspect of our daily lives. They’re the threads that weave together the fabric of our society. They’re the foundation for our quality of life. Volunteers are selfless, but the reward they get from giving their time and abilities are totally selfish — the warm feeling when a shut-in senior thanks them for dropping off lunch, the damp cheek from a dog happy to be liberated for a half hour from the shelter, the high-five from a kid who’s finally mastered a corner kick. The gift of volunteering needs no batteries. It won’t harm the environment. And it doesn’t cost any money. It can be a large gift of many hours a week, or a small one. All it takes is desire, commitment, and the spirit of giving.

Don’t sacrifice set dates C
hristy Clark could run in a by-election if she wins the B.C. Liberal leadership vote in February, but she is leaning towards an early general election instead. B.C. became the first jurisdiction in Canada to establish a four-year schedule for elections in 2001, blocking a majority government’s ability to call surprise elections for political advantage. The new premier would have to change legislation that sets the next election for the second Tuesday in May, 2013. A schedule for elections is in my view the most important democratic reform achieved in Canada in the last decade. Ontario has followed suit. So has the Conservative federal government, although you wouldn’t notice it as the long run of unstable minority rule has prevented it from taking effect. Clark is the only unelected candidate seeking the B.C. Liberal leadership, but she suggests that whoever becomes premier should call an election. “I think two and a half years in government as an
unelected premier is an awful long time.” Clark said last week. “I think British Columbians might be right to say, by the time 2013 rolls around, hey, you were elected by people who had to pay in order to vote for you. We want to have a chance to vote for you under the basic principles of democracy.” Clark is the education ministerturned-hotline host who served as deputy premier in Premier Gordon Campbell’s firstTo term cabinet. That was the cabinet that enacted set election days, amid much fanfare about cleaning up B.C. politics. Campbell is expected to retire as MLA for VancouverPoint Grey some time after B.C. Liberal Party members vote for a new leader on Feb. 26. If Clark wins, Campbell would make way for a byelection where Clark could run in a relatively safe seat. Shuswap MLA George Abbott has argued that the B.C.
Liberal government needs two and a half years to set a new course and regain the trust of voters disillusioned over the introduction of the harmonized sales tax. He and other candidates have called for the date of a province-wide vote on the HST to be moved up to June. Abbotsford West MLA Mike de Jong agrees that the schedule of elections every four years is an important electoral reform. The only change he would m support is to shift the scheduled date to the fall, so the annual provincial budget isn’t disrupted every four years by a spring election. The modern-day master of calling snap elections for political gain was Jean Chrétien. He accomplished little in a decade beyond perpetuating his own hold on power, calling early elections in 1997 and 2000 to prey on weak and divided opposition parties.
B.C. Views
Fletcher
Clark came of age politically with the Chrétien-era federal Liberals, and has shown the same opportunistic eye as the little guy from Shawinigan. The NDP is leaderless, rudderless and presenting as tempting a target as Stockwell Day in his legendary wetsuit. Would there be some kind of campaign about ideas if a B.C. election were to be held next year? No. It would almost unavoidably devolve into a referendum on the harmonized sales tax, which is why Clark wants to ditch the tax first. Would Clark, or any of the other contenders for that matter, run on a platform of keeping the HST? They all claim to support the tax, but would they stake their shiny new premiership on it? I very much doubt it. The likely strategy would be to sacrifice the HST, and then the scheduled election law. Two sensible reforms, discarded. Driver was not at fault Editor, The Record: Re: Signs to be installed on Stave Lake Road, Dec. 9 edition. I’m not very happy with the impression your article gives from how it was written. It gives the impression that speed and an unawareness of horses in the area are the reason why the horse was killed. Nowhere in your article does it say that the riding ring gate was not secured, nor that it was dark outside. If the gate was secured, the horse would not have been able to run out onto the road after bucking the rider. I was the driver of the SUV and have suffered from chest pains and shortness of breath, a banged up leg, a slight concussion and whiplash. I am also fending for myself when it comes to getting my children to and from school, dance, hockey, dentist, etc. because I no longer have a vehicle. Thank God none of my three children were in the truck at the time of the accident. The accident is not under investigation. ed $6,000 to the Christmas Bureau for the third consecutive year. “We are always looking for ways to help our community,” said Vicki Gould, store owner. “When I asked my employees where we could help out the most this season, they immediately suggested the Mission Christmas Bureau. I knew this was the right thing to do.” Dan and Vicki Gould personally donated $2,500 and the store staff donated $500. This $3,000 was matched by Canadian Tire Corporation to reach the $6,000 total. Bureau coordinator Phil Hope used part of the donation to purchase toys for children in need.

Many benefits at Christmas at the Clarke Over $14,000 was raised at the annual Christmas at the Clarke benefit concert on Wednesday, Dec. 15 for the Mission Christmas Bureau and the Women’s Resource Society of the Fraser Valley. The night was entertaining and full of holiday spirit along with some surprises. Clockwise from above left: A gentleman proposes to his girlfriend on stage during Kenny Hess’ performance. The Joy Vox Choir continues to impress audiences everywhere they perform. The Abbotsford Concert Band plays some holiday tunes. Rob Hess closes the popular annual concert. Victoria Duffield takes the stage. BOB FRIESEN PHOTOS
A Christmas carol Fraser Valley Stage performed Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol at the Clarke Theatre on Dec. 18. The one-night show was well attended and fun to watch. If you ask children what they want for Christmas, they will probably tell you about all of the latest toys and games on the market. For most well-cared-for youngsters, I guess it is the material things in their lives that give them the most joy and happiness. Children, as well as adults, often desire the luxuries of life, and we tend to take for granted all of the blessings that we have been given. However, I am sure it is not that way for the needy, less fortunate children in the world. For Christmas, these children would probably ask for something like a new pair of shoes, or a warm coat, or perhaps a sweater. The true Christmas spirit should be more about giving than receiving, and sharing what we have with others. The Bible tells us that the generous person is blessed by God, and that God will not forget the good works and labors of love which have been performed in His name.

Jimmy D. Lane at Dewdney’s NYE bash The internationally acclaimed Jimmy D. Lane Band will be playing at the Historic Dewdney Pub on New Year’s Eve. Lane has worked with many influential people in the music industry such as Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Dave Meyers and his father, the lengendart Jimmy Rogers. He started playing his dad’s guitar at age eight, but didn’t get serious about it until later. In 1987 Lane was the lead guitarist of the Jimmy Rogers Band and formed his own band, Jimmy D. Lane and the Hurricanes, and later Blue Train Running. He toured extensively with his dad’s band while juggling his own career. Lane made his solo recording debut in 1995. The self titled disc featured 12 original songs and one of his dad’s tunes. Lane has four albums out now. Lane’s music is on the rocking side, but is tempered with just the right amount of blues tradition. Lane is a passionate blues singer, songwriter and guitarist. Tickets to the New Year’s Even bash at the Historic Dewdney Pub is $25 per person and includes a buffet dinner at 7 p.m. There will also be a safe ride home on the pub’s “blues bus” if you need it. Tickets are available at the pub, and Uncommon Thredz on First Avenue. The Historic Dewdney Pub is located about eight minutes east of Mission, just off Highway 7. For more information call 604-826-4762.

You’re already putting it at the curb, why not simply put it in a separate bin? Gift wrap, due to its ink content and low paper grade, is not recyclable. hristmas is coming this Saturday, which means it is time to get going if you have not bought that gift for the angler on your list. This week we offer gifts that are easy and do-able for the last minute shopper. Fishing rods, reels, and/or waders; we believe the best way to gift your angler with one of these items, is to take him or her shopping at their favourite shop. Simply place a note stating your intentions in a Christmas card and slip it under the tree. This is sure to please your angler and you don’t run the risk of buying the wrong thing. Fishing vest The newer models that consist of nothing more than mesh with pockets are sure to please when the weather heats up. Remember these tools are made to carry equipment, not for warmth; mesh models stay on when most have been removed.

Icebreakers lose by one against Pilots The Mission Icebreakers faced off Sunday afternoon against cross-river rivals the Abbotsford Pilots, losing 4-3 on home ice. The chippy game saw penalties flying fast and furious throughout all three periods of play, resulting in six power plays aside. Both teams capitalized twice with the man advantage. The Icebreakers were leading the game 3-2 heading into the third after banging in two goals in the second, courtesy of Luke Venema and Coleman Foisy. The Pilots rallied in the final period putting two past Mission’s Lukas Simpson, who went 36 for 40 on the afternoon. This recent loss drops the Icebreakers back into last place in the Harold Brittain Conference, with 23 points and a 10-16 record. The Icebreakers faced off against the Port Moody Black Panthers last night, and results were not available by The Record’s press time. Above: Luke Venema sends the puck past the sprawling Pilot’s goalie Brad Anderson for Mission’s first of the game. Right: Mission’s Matthew Denton elbows Bradley Parker, resulting in a two minute penalty and game misconduct. BOB FRIESEN PHOTOS

Fishing magazine subscriptions The economy and web forums have forced all but the quality rags off the market, so this gift will supply hours of pleasing and informative reading.
Fishing time For the anglers like me who have a small bedroom full of equipment and supplies, the Sun Valley Trout Park in Mission offers three hours of catch and release fly fishing for $25 (gift certificates are available). As their fly fishing instructor I can vouch for the quality of this fishery, which offers good dry fly fishing (provided the ponds are not frozen) in January and challenging trout to seven lb. Merry Christmas! The report Our Lower Mainland lakes are fishing slow to fair. Try a slow troll or retrieve with: Big Black, Nation’s Black, Wooly Bugger, Micro Leach, Baggy Shrimp, Coachman, Halfback, Dragon Nymph, olive Matuka, Butler’s Bug, Zulu, or Doc Spratley. The Fraser River is slow to fair for cutthroat and dolly varden. For cutthroat try: Rolled Muddler, Mickey Finn, Eggo, Tied Down Minnow, Epoxy Minnow, black, Flesh Fly, Stone, Professor, Lioness, Coachman, Zulu, Chez Nymph. For dolly Varden try: Large (#4 to #1) Eggo, Dolly Whacker, Bucktail, Epoxy Minnow, Big Black, Muddler, or Zunker. The Stave River is fair for rainbow and cutthroat.
