Letter From The President I

hope everyone who attended the 120th Anniversary Gala on Feb. 11 had a fantastic time as I know I did! Thank you to all Club staff and first-year Board of Governors especially Jodi Peterson for putting this event together. The décor, food stations, and live music from the Naked Karate Girls kicked off the Club’s 120th anniversary year in such a festive way!

As we are celebrating the Club’s 120th anniversary, Don Nies is celebrating his 75th year as an MAC Member. I was honored to attend Don’s luncheon in the Sportsman’s Club’s Hall of Fame room on Monday, Feb. 6. It was another great opportunity to reminisce on the history of the Club. Don’s contributions to the Club have not gone unnoticed! The Board of Governors made a proclamation recognizing Feb. 26, 2023 as Don Nies Day at the MAC.

The year is moving fast, but those who participated in the MAC Commit to Fit Program have not regretted it! Thank you to Courtney Hutt, Paul Helfrich and all of our training staff who have been keeping so many MAC Members on track with their health journey. To Members looking to create healthy habits, our full wellness team is ready to assist!

As the air gets warmer, Members are reminded that golf season is right around the corner! I am pleased to report that we have finalized an agreement to continue our Dual Member program with Glen Echo Country Club. Members who participate are eligible for full membership privileges at GECC. Space is limited. Contact Rodney Stoyer, MAC Director of Membership, at rstoyer@mac-stl.org for more information.

The full MAC golf calendar has not yet been finalized, but the Dalhousie Play Day in Cape Girardeau has been set for June 17. Call their golf shop at 573-332-0818 ext. 309 to reserve a tee time starting at 11 a.m. The MAC Golf Club has also finalized a date for their 2023 season kick off event. Join other golfers at the Downtown Clubhouse on March 29.

With athletics being our middle name, the Jack Buck Grille is the place to be before professional sporting events. St. Louis CITY SC starts playing at CITYPARK this month, and the Battlehawks will also begin filling the

Dome at America’s Center just across the street from the Downtown Clubhouse. Enjoy dinner and drinks and then hop on the shuttle to a CITY SC game, Blues game and Cardinals game beginning in April. Tailgates will start two hours ahead of Battlehawks home game days at the rear entrance of the Club on Lucas Avenue. Buy your tickets from mac-stl.org/XFL and use the password MAC in order to get the group rate and have $3 per ticket donated to the Youth & Family Center.

Construction is underway on the YFC gym restoration project. We are excited for the efforts of the MAC Sports Foundation to come to fruition! Details will be forthcoming regarding properly recognizing and celebrating the generosity of all those who donated to the project and the completion of the same.

As we look forward to Easter on April 9, be sure to reserve your spot for the Easter Egg Hunt at the West Clubhouse along with Easter Brunches held at both Clubhouses. Reservations for all three of these events open on Monday, March 6 at 10 a.m.

I am privileged to attend the MAC Employee Service Awards Dinner on March 9. It makes me proud to be part of a Club that values the best staff and exceptional Members. I want to extend an additional thank you to Harry Lanfersieck, the West Clubhouse’s distinguished employee.

Harry Lanfersieck

Harry, thank you for taking care of our Members’ athletic and apparel needs. We appreciate your dedication to the MAC.

Have a great March, and I look forward to seeing you at the Club!

Brent Beumer, President Missouri Athletic Club

Letter From The General Manager

Aproject that we are all very passionate about is off to a grand start! Missouri Floor Company began work on the Youth & Family Center’s basketball court on Feb. 20. This project has been in the works since Member Michael McMillan, President and CEO of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, brought it to our attention. This initiative fit perfectly within our civic engagement mission of purposefully reaching out in impactful ways to assist our neighboring downtown community.

We started by raising $50,000 from the MAC Sports Foundation, then we inspired the American Hellenic Foundation to donate $50,000, and we encouraged Club Members and staff to participate as well and they have donated an additional $15,000.

Recently, First Mid Bank & Trust, the MAC’s current banking partner, announced a $25,000 donation to the YFC initiative. So far, the transition from Jefferson Bank, our banking partner for over 30 years, to First Mid has been seamless and when we told them about our work with the YFC, they immediately wanted to support the effort. Thank you to Kathleen Tallis, VP of Commercial Lending at First Mid, and Brian Gibson, First Mid’s SVP of Corporate Community Development, for their help in securing this generous donation.

Also, the MAC Foundation for the Arts will be contributing to the initiative by helping with aesthetic enhancements to the YFC’s main entrance and lobby space outside the gymnasium. Past Governor Chris Hyams and his company GS&S Construction deserve a huge thank you for their time and expertise shepherding us through this impactful undertaking.

Members, and some of us staff have given money to this effort, but there is more work to be done. I encourage any business or individual interested in directly impacting the lives of our downtown neighbors to contribute to our $200,000 goal. We are close. To the MAC Members who have already donated – thank you for your support! To donate, visit mac-sportsfoundation.org, or contact

Kara Kelpe at

kkelpe@mac-stl.org

to get involved.

The relationship between the MAC and the YFC won’t end when the court and main entrance enhancements are completed. This partnership will continue as we bridge gaps in St. Louis.

Of course, we’re always working to improve ourselves at the same time. Already this year, we have redone the women’s locker room, men’s locker room and pro shop at the West Clubhouse. The 1903 dining room and fitness renovations were also completed recently out at West.

Now we plan to wrap up the year by giving the Town and Country Room, our banquet room in the back, a total refresh. We plan to have it open in the first part of April. It’s going to be a great space where Members will be happy to have events, business meetings and more. To reserve space, be sure to call Emma Pranger at 314-539-4490, and take a look at the renderings posted at West to get a feel for how the space will look and feel.

I want to give a big shoutout to those who helped to make the 120th Anniversary Gala a success! It was an incredible night! It truly was a team effort with people from the West Clubhouse collaborating with Downtown to make it all magnificent! Thank you to our catering team, event planning team, culinary staff, Chef Bart, Chef Charles, servers and more! Thanks to the freshman class of Governors who assisted our staff with designing and brainstorming, and of course I must tip my hat to the Naked Karate Girls who helped us keep the party going well past midnight!

The gala helped us kick off the Club’s 120th Anniversary campaign. More events throughout the year will feature this anniversary campaign culminating in a final celebration in September.

See you at the Club!
