wait to help more people in our community. How about you?? Since the District was able to raise the $115,000 necessary to purchase the Williams Scholarship House in Gainesville, our first fun event will be the Re-Dedication Service on January 30th. This will be a great event for Pilots from all over Florida to attend - I hope you are planning on being there too! In April we will be hosting our 2nd Annual "Good Deeds 4 Special Needs 5K Run", so now is the time to start looking for sponsors and advertising to the Runners of Ocala. Together we can exceed the $4000 we raised last year, but we must ALL work together to make that happen. We will have more information at the January Meeting for this event. The next big thing for our club will be the Election of the 20162017 Officers - are you going to "Step Up" this year?? We will be looking for new members to fill the positions on our Board and

Anchor Convention Update The Belleview Anchor Club is excited to be attending the 2016 FL District Anchor Convention with most expenses covered thanks to the Pilot/Anchor Spaghetti Dinner. "Anchored Under the Big Top" Convention will be held March 5-6th in Kissimmee. The cost is $85 per person and the room rate is $82 per night. Ocala Pilots are invited to attend in support of the Anchors for a fun filled weekend! The District Project is collecting more children's books to be shipped to Africa like the Pilots did at Fall Council. If you would like to donate books, please turn those in by the February Meeting so they can be taken to the convention.

Pecan Selling Time There are still some pecans available for last chance sales for this year. Please ask all of your buyers if they would like anymore pecans and remind them they keep great in the freezer for use all year long. If you still have Pecans, please let Nancy know how many you have and if you need them, then Nancy can let you know who can supply them.

Bring ALL your Pecan money to the meeting!!

Pilots Serve with a Giving Heart and Helping Hand! We will all need to make sure an report our hours served for the months of November, December and January at the January Meeting. Take a look at your calendar before the meeting to make a list of your hours served in the name of Pilot and bring that list to the meeting.

Pilot Club of Ocala - 1965-1975 WOW! Reading through these years leaves no doubt that Pilot was a leading force in Ocala. The new decade began with The Pilot Club of Ocala very busy and excited to be working for the community good. Isn’t that always the way? In September 1965 The Pilot Club of Ocala hosted Fall Council at the Brahma in Ocala. Once again little mention is recorded on fund raising efforts. It is assumed that the decade started with a healty treasury since the loss on the Senior Citizen Home project putting funds back into use. $1000 was donated to Wyomina Park School to help restore the library destroyed by fire and the donation of 700 books as well. Later $3000 was donated to the Public Library for the purchase of a sound system. A Cardiac Bed for Intensive care was given to Munroe Memorial Hospital. $437 provided a Titmus Vision Testing system for Marion County School children. Four rocking chairs were purchased for therapy at Munroe Memorial Hospital. Many smaller gifts benefitted other important local needs. An ongoing project was the creation and filling 80 ditty bags sent to the soldiers in Viet Nam who, in turn, refilled the bags with goodies for the children in the area. Nationwide 525,000 bags were created for this project. Several mentions are made of sending funds to help supply the Meals for Millions program. The Ocala Regional Library opened in November and included the Pilot Club Art Center displaying reproductions of fine Paintings. Pilot endorsed several items coming before the public th such as a school millage and a bond for hospital expansion. In July 1972, Munroe Memorial open the new 4 floor designated as the Pilot Club Floor honoring the Club for many contributions such as a $2800 battery operated Defibrilator for the operating room. October 1974, $500 was donated to go towards the purchase of an Emergency Rescue Vehicle. In April 1975, $500 was donated to the Ocala Police Department for literature for the use of Officers on School Safety. In 1972, a new project was introduced in which Jim Kirk of WMOP and WFUZ would allow Pilots to sell ads, write the copy and work with the DJ’s for a full broadcast day. Pilot, Jean Denbleyker approached Mr. Kirk with her idea and he readily accepted without question. This project lasted five years. The first two years were on WMOP and the last three on WFUZ. This was a great money maker averaging about $3000.00 yearly for Pilot projects. It was fun coupled with hard work, but worth it for both Pilot and the radio stations. Items of note: Clara Miller joined Pilot in 1968 and was active until sidelined by ill health in 2010 at which time she was designates as our first Emeritus member. Doris Jean Sharpe joined in 1970. We know her now as D J Ferguson who serves us well as Parliamentarian. Compiled from the History of The Pilot Club of Ocala in the Ocala Public Library
