Presidents Message BRING ON THE COOL WEATHER! Don't know about anyone else, but I am over this heat! Not a summer person. What great speakers we had our August meeting! I for one thoroughly enjoyed them. I had never heard of Asperger syndrome. And sometimes the way things work out is very ironic...I talked to a friend I had not spoken with in 33 years, and in the conversation she mentioned that her grandson (who is a member of the Georgia Boys Choir and just toured England) has this
exact condition! With education and training, he and his parents have learned what is needed to keep his symptoms pretty much controlled. We had a beautiful day to visit the Ivey House in Williston......and oh my!!!!!! Wish you all could have been there! We all ordered different desserts and passed them around the table......kind of like a dessert sampler! My favorite was the buttermilk walnut pie, milk cake, coconut cream pie, midnight chocolate layer cake....and whatever else we
had. Yea, you get the picture. If you missed this trip, let me know when you can go and I will be glad to go with you!!!! I will see everyone at the September meeting.

Out Dinners at the Spaghetti Dinner. Please collect these and bring them to the September meeting or the Spaghetti Dinner if you plan to work it. Don’t forget this dinner benefits the Anchors who work it. When they
work it, they will get a portion of the proceeds to go towards their trip in March to the Anchor Convention. Officer Training for Anchors is September 10th at 9 am at Trinity High School. If you would like to attend to show your support, it is a Great thing to be apart of.

Brain Minder Facts….
Every 21 seconds someone in the United States incurs a brain injury.
Every 16 seconds someone in the world sustains a brain injury.
In the USA, approximately 90,000 people experience a lifelong debilitating loss of function due to a traumatic brain injury each year.
Most frequent causes of brain injuries are vehicular crashes, falls, sports and recreational injuries and assault. Brain injury is the most frequent cause of death among young people.
Annually, 30,000 children become permanently disabled, 150,000 are hospitalized and 7,000 deaths occur due to brain injury in the United States.
No one is immune from brain injury.
Many people are not aware that brain damage can occur after a near drowning, or during a medical emergency.
Currently, up to fifty percent of the American public is unaware that shaking a baby is dangerous.
An estimated 3,000 children are
diagnosed with the traumatic brain injury known as shaken baby syndrome (SBS).
The only defense against brain injury is prevention education.
Puppets, coloring books, Costumes and much more to help teach Brain Awareness can be used.
Day of Caring….. The Anchors will be making a 4 1/2 inch Gingerbread Man ornaments which will require Tacky Glue so remember to save those small jar lids for glue pots. The girls will have fun with this one and we trust it will keep them busy long enough. We need to have a Pilot or
an Anchor Advisor at each table to oversee quality! Also the girls will be signing Christmas Cards to be sent over seas to the military men and women by Operation Shoebox.
Day of Caring is September 24th at Trinity High School at 9 am. Cindy Williams, Carole Vitale, and Helen Helvenston are in charge of this Project. If you have any questions please call or email them.
