Considerate Constructors Scheme BAM Construction are members of the Considerate Constructors Scheme. The purpose of the Scheme is to improve the image of construction and this is done through encouraging continuous improvement on our sites.

Safety Construction sites can be dangerous. At BAM we endeavour to undertake all our activities with special regard to Health and Safety. This not only relates to our own people working on the site, but also to the public around our sites. For this reason please can you help by ensuring that people do not come onto the site itself, but only to the site office should the need arise.

BAM Construction are undertaking other projects in the East of Scotland today including Asda Straiton, Dunfermline High School and Auchmuty High School.

Traffic Management Update Welcome to the fifth edition of the BAM Construction newsletter for Lasswade Community Campus Introduction Our aim in producing this occasional newsletter is to keep the School and all our neighbours informed about the progress of the project and what you can expect to see happening on the site in the weeks to come. Further news letters will be issued to keep you informed of progress and significant items on site.

The project is the construction of a new Community Campus consisting of a new Lasswade High School and adjoining community block in the grounds of the existing high school sports pitches and local football pitch. During the construction phase of the works the existing leisure centre and gymnastics centre within the existing school grounds will remain open. The Health & Safety of the existing school, leisure facility users, the community and the general public will be our top priority during the contract works.

Project Funding The Lasswade Community Campus is being funded by Midlothian Council and through Scottish Futures Trust. Midlothian Council wholly funds the community part which includes the library, leisure centre, computer area, community kitchen, conference suite, squash court, sports hall, dance studio, 25m 6-lane swimming pool and artificial football pitch.

The new £37.1million Lasswade Community Campus will provide cutting edge facilities for local community groups, teachers, pupils and the general public. Existing facilities will be replaced and community services brought under one building.

Progress to date The building envelope is nearing completion with coloured glazing being installed which will have the building partially wind and water tight.

The crash decks for installing the roof lights are in the progress of being stripped which allows us to appreciate the use of natural light.

Key Plan: 1. 3 way traffic control on Eskdale Drive, Polton Street and Hopefield Park (approximately 15/10/12 – 19/11/12).

2. Road closure on Eskdale Drive (approximately 15/10/12 – 03/12/12).

3. 2 way traffic control on Eskdale Drive (approximately 15/10/12 – 05/11/12).

4. Road closure at Pryde Avenue and Hawthorneden Gardens (approximately 10/12/12 – 31/12/12).

Internal fit-out is progressing well with joinery works and decoration started.

5. Road closure at Hawthorneden Avenue (approximately 05/11/12 – 03/12/12).

6. Road closure at Hawthorneden Avenue and 2 way traffic control (approximately 05/11/12 – 26/11/12).

What methods will be used with regards to safety of the general public, school teachers and pupils?

Strict traffic management and pedestrian procedures are now in place to ensure the safety of the general public using the existing leisure facilities, teachers and pupils. No deliveries will be allowed to site during school peak times. All construction traffic will be limited to 5mph within the site, vehicle gatemen and banks men will be in attendance and a lollipop person will be employed to control vehicle movements at the entrance gate to grounds during peak pupil times.

What methods will be used for dust and noise control and how will this be monitored?

Dust The best practice method for controlling dust is by water suppression. Fire hydrants on site and fire hoses will be utilised to control dust as required during later demolition works.

Noise

Traffic management update From Monday the 15th of October 2012 essential road works will commence on Eskdale drive, which will require us to close sections of the road. This is of paramount importance to ensure that all works are carried out safely and cause minimal disruption to the general public over the next few months. Please see the site plan overleaf, which shows details of areas that will be closed and the likely timescales associated with each closure.

All noise generating plant and equipment shall be fully maintained to operate at lowest noise levels possible. Specific tasks will be carried out at appropriate times during the day to reduce nuisance noise. No plant will be in use before 8am.

Road cleaning Road cleaning equipment will continue to be used to ensure that no deposits of mud are on public roads. During drier spells, road brushes will be used on site to spray water thus reducing dust caused by construction traffic.
