5 Tips for Making Meaningful Connections at a Virtual Conference
BETH STARK, RDN, LDN DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS
Be sure to tune in to our networking event at 5:00 pm EST on Thursday, March 9th!
We know that making meaningful connections at a virtual conference can be a little tricky, but that’s how our Spring Summit promises to be different. From engaging with fellow attendees through Whova chat boards, to live chats during sessions, to letting your authentic self shine at our networking event, we’re sure you will close out the Spring Summit with the start of at least one new relationship. Remember these tips to get the most out of networking opportunities at Spring Summit:
BE YOUR AUTHENTICALLY AWESOME SELF.
Even though there’s a screen between you and the other person, treat this meeting as you would if you were in person. First impressions still matter even in the virtual setting so be kind, respectful, considerate, and genuine.
SHOW YOUR SMILE.
It may feel a little awkward to smile at a screen, however, this simple act can go a long way toward making others feel comfortable while showing how engaged you are in the conversation.
EXERCISE GOOD NETIQUETTE.
Sure, meeting new people virtually is now an everyday thing, but don’t forget to exercise good netiquette and mind your online manners. To do so, make eye contact, use attentive body language, and minimize distractions to foster a deeper connection. Check out the Community Guidelines for more details (https:// bit.ly/3VPNiDO).
TAKE INITIATIVE.
Whova gives you the ability to start your own discussion thread (under the “Community” tab). Use it to ask questions or network with RDs with similar interests. Alternatively, host a virtual Meetup and network in real time (under “Meet-ups & Virtual Meets” Community Board). Limited to one per attendee.
HAVE FUN!
Leverage the opportunity of being in the same space with other seasoned nutrition entrepreneurs or nutrition entrepreneurs-to-be and share, laugh, guide, and support them while having some fun!
