HOLIDAY A CAPPELLA
Naturally 7 Seven guys. Multiple ways of making music using only their voices. What they do is far more than a cappella. They are a band without a band. Having met in school and gospel choir, the members of this now world-renowned a cappella ensemble quickly discovered that they were doing more than just singing songs - they all had perfect hypervocal capabilities. Each band member has his preferred style, and together, Naturally 7 summons up soul, rap, rock, and folk in one harmonious balance. Naturally 7’s astounding 20-year musical journey has led them from collaborating with artists such as Michael Bublé, Coldplay, Mick Hucknall, Ludacris, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Phil Collins, and Mahalia Jackson, to performing in 467 international shows over three world tours and six album releases between 2002 and 2015. This year, Naturally 7 is celebrating their 20th anniversary with new releases and remixes of famous hits, and a repertoire of their own musical compositions and cover songs. With their rich harmonies, an unbelievable ability to replicate instruments, and a stage presence that can be felt in every seat of the house, Naturally 7’s phenomenal talent is one never before experienced on Center Stage. greatlakescfa.org tickets@greatlakescfa.org 231.439.2610

Rock Baby Rock! FRIDAY, DECEMBER 27 7:30PM
Get ready for a musical history trip! Move and groove back to the beginnings of rock ‘n’ roll with entertainer and songwriter Lance Lipinsky and his Chicago-based group the Lovers in Rock Baby Rock! Culling together revitalized sounds from the late 1940s to the mid-1960s, this ever-shuffling night features both obvious and slightly less common touchstones, including era-defining material from Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Bill Haley & The Comets, Chubby Checker, Ray Charles, Bo Diddley, The Dells, Ike Turner, and Jerry Lewis’ top tunes. In an unforgettable live concert, Lipinsky delivers an explosive pumpin’ piano performance showcasing his influences of the 1950s and 60s in his original music. With driving Jerry Lee style piano rhythms and Elvis inspired swagger, he and the Lovers take on a modern evolution of a timeless throwback style in an all-its-own, swing-tastic, rockabilly stage show spectacular.

Let’s start at the very beginning (a very good place to start). This event is a screening of the classic Julie Andrews’ musical film in glorious, full-screen Technicolor, complete with subtitles so that the whole audience can sing along! The fun-filled show starts with a vocal warm-up led by the evening's host, Erik Gratton, who played Buddy in the national tour of Elf, and continues with details about your complimentary ‘magic moments fun pack’ containing various props to be used at strategic points throughout the film. Then, of course, there is the famous fancy-dress competition in which everyone who has come in Sound of Music-inspired costume is invited onto the stage to show off their fantastic tailoring skills and take a chance to win prizes. Having started in the UK in 1999, the Sing-Along Sound of Music show has now become a worldwide hit, playing to packed houses across the globe with over 10,000 performances in 11 different countries and many major cities including New York, L.A., San Francisco, Toronto, Sydney, Melbourne, Dublin, Oslo, and Stockholm. It’s even filled the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles – seven times! So, get those vocal cords warmed up, cut up those chintz curtains, and hurry down for another dose of the international smash-hit sensation!

LOCAL MUSICIAN
An Evening with Jake Allen FRIDAY, JANUARY 3 7:30PM
“Entering the mesmerizing musical universe of Northern Michigan’s Jake Allen is like stepping into a lush, all-enveloping prog-pop garden–instrumentally complex yet breathtakingly fetching tracks that show off not only Allen’s jaw-dropping musicianship but whispery sweet and powerful vocals that recall the dynamics of Peter Gabriel.” —Local Spins 14
25532_Program.indd 14
At a young age, Allen began exploring synthesizers and recording music in his father’s Northern Michigan studio and found himself being drawn to the sounds of finger-style guitar trailblazers like Michael Hedges and Andy McKee. After pinpointing his focus on acoustic guitar, crafting his percussive tapping style, and creating his own virtual clone-like backing band, Allen took his solo show to the road in 2009 and has been touring ever since. With his unique percussive style, two hands on the neck technique and live looping, Jake Allen has transformed his acoustic guitar into a versatile instrument and has gained international acclaim as an artist with the sound and energy of a full band. Allen’s powerful vocals, engaging lyrics, and capacity to connect with his audiences have earned the alternative artist recognition as a celebrated international touring sensation. Allen has produced several acclaimed solo records, playing every instrument himself to complement his smooth, soaring voice. As Jake Allen continues to write, produce, and perform, his mission statement remains the same: “I observe, report and affirm my life through the act of making music. In turn, I wish that act will enrich the lives of others and inspire them to be their own definition of great.” 800 BAY HARBOR DRIVE BAY HARBOR, MI 49770

You’ve heard of the Tony awards, now get ready for the PHONY awards! Created by a group of New York City based improv veterans, Broadway’s Next Hit Musical (BNHM) takes audience suggestions to create a full-blown, improvised musical theater award show. Master improvisers gather made up, hit song suggestions from the audience and create a spontaneous evening of music, humor, and laughter. You, the audience, vote for a favorite song and watch as the cast turns it into a complete improvised musical - with memorable characters, witty dialogue, and plot twists galore. BNHM has been seen recently at The Triad, Tribeca Film Festival, and at the New York Musical Theater Festival, among many others.

While tickets are non-refundable, we are happy to help you with options: • SHARE: Reach out to family or friends who may want to attend but do not have tickets yet. • EXCHANGE: Contact us to exchange your tickets for another event within the 2019 | 2020 Fall - Spring Season based on availability. • DONATE: If you wish to donate your ticket purchase, please contact us so we can provide you with a gift receipt and offer your tickets to others to purchase and attend.
CENTER & BOX OFFICE HOURS On the day of a performance, our Box Office will be open in the Center to walk in or call at 231.439.2610 during these times: • SATURDAY OR SUNDAY EVENTS: 12:00PM through the event • WEEKNIGHT EVENTS: 5:00PM through the event • CINEMA SERIES EVENTS: two hours prior to show time The Theater doors will open 30 minutes prior to the start of an event. Our team is happy to assist you at our Main Office, in the green Bay Harbor Building across the street from the Center during regular business hours weekdays from 9:00AM to 5:00PM.
FOOD & DRINK The Center asks that you please enjoy your food and beverages before entering the Theater. The Main Level Lobby and Concessions will open one hour prior to each event unless otherwise noted.

Regardless of your choice, we want you to feel comfortable enough to truly enjoy your experience.
RUNNING L ATE? If you arrive after an event has already started, you will be seated at the appropriate time as instructed by the staff.
IN CASE OF EMERGENCY For your safety, please notice the exit closest to you in case of an emergency. If you feel any situation is unsafe, please reach out to the House Manager. 38

An educational program of the Great Lakes Center for the Arts
OFFERING EXCEPTIONAL STRINGS MUSIC EDUCATION TO THE YOUTH OF NORTHERN MICHIGAN Violin, viola, cello, and bass instruction in a classroom setting, through private lessons, and in youth ensembles. Taking place in 10 different schools in Charlevoix, Emmet, and Antrim counties, for students in 4th grade and above, these beginner, intermediate, and school strings classes are offered at no charge to their families. Individual lessons and Suzuki Method instruction are also impactful opportunities for children as young as four to learn a stringed instrument in a customized setting. Giving You a
Standing Ovation
The desire to make a positive impact is likely the number-one reason people give, and this plays out often at the Center—a place where people treasure the arts and are willing to personally invest to ensure they remain vibrant in Northern Michigan. Such generosity is powerful. It broadens opportunities for students to learn from the arts in our schools. It contributes to a dynamic that draws new business, new visitors, and new ideas to our region, and it helps guarantee more access to diverse entertainment close to home. To those who have supported the Center, thank you! For those who admire the impact our donor family is making and would like to share in their excitement, please consider making a gift to the Center. Simply use the envelope provided in this program or contact me for details. I would welcome the chance to answer any questions you may have about how your donation makes a difference to the Center and the community we serve. Here’s to making an impact, Live on Center Stage!
Warm regards,
Matthew Wawro, Development Director 231.439.2606 or mwawro@greatlakescfa.org
