THE VISION: By 2025, the Great Lakes Center for the Arts will be recognized as a leading Midwest performing arts presenter and provider of broadened cultural opportunities. Founding Artistic Director Michael M. Kaiser, President Emeritus of the Kennedy Center in Washington DC and Chairman of the DeVos Institute of Arts Management, is providing expertise to the Great Lakes Center for the Arts ensuring its sustainable success. Since opening in July 2018, the Center has... Hosted over 75,000 visitors including over 15,000 K-12 students.
Presented more than 150 events including concerts, dance, musical theater, film, speakers, and youth educational offerings.
Collaborated with neighboring arts organizations including the Crooked Tree Arts Center, Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra, Bay View Music Festival, Interlochen Center for the Arts, among others.
Through its Dorothy Gerber Strings Program and Next Gen youth initiatives served students in more than 40 schools in Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, and Otsego counties.
Won the confidence of key community funders – the Petoskey–Harbor Springs Area and Charlevoix County Community Foundations – as well as corporate donors such as Fifth Third Bank, DTE, and The Meijer Foundation.
Became among the first in the nation to reopen safely and earned the gratitude of more than 75 nationally respected artists who gave their first performance since the start of the pandemic on our stage.
Fully funded its 2020 and 2021 operations and has grown Annual Fund support to more than $1,000,000/yr.
Completed its $28.5 million Capital Campaign to construct and open the venue.
Grown legacy giving commitments to more than $11 million for long term sustainability.
Presented notable artists for all in Northern Michigan to experience including the Canadian Brass, Judy Collins, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Kurt Elling, Michael Feinstein, the Joffrey Ballet, Gladys Knight, Kathleen Madigan, Pink Martini, Brian Stokes Mitchell, LeAnn Rimes, Chris Thile, Thompson Square, Vienna Boys Choir, and Vanessa Williams.
Regional Impact Supporting the Arts in Northern Michigan Donations spread the joy of the performing arts throughout the region, lowering ticket prices and creating new opportunities for collaborations with area schools and neighboring arts organizations.
Enriching Arts Education The Dorothy Gerber Strings Program and Next Gen youth initiatives provide greater opportunities for youth to learn, grow, and thrive through the performing arts.
Strengthening the Region’s Economy The Center enhances Northern Michigan’s quality of life, drawing new residents and supporting cultural tourism—a $10+ million impact each year! Serving as a cultural and social hub to a five-county region, the Center provides another reason to work, play, and stay in the area.
