Celebrating a Sweet Century!

Our copper kettle has turned out a lot of fudge.

It all began with Jim Marshall, the patriarch of Marshall’s Fudge. Born and raised on Mackinac Island, Jim’s ancestry was of servicemen and maritime professionals. But Jim envisioned a sweeter legacy for the Marshall name. In 1923, he began living that philosophy, starting a career as a candy maker in Mackinac Island’s first candy shop and helping to pioneer an industry.

Years later, in 1952, Jim, his wife Oradelle, and son Dean would open Marshall’s Driftwood Fudge on Mackinac Island’s Main Street, and a family business was born. It was the first of a number of fudge shops Marshall’s would open in the Straits area, including the current shop in the heart of Mackinaw City. Oradelle was instrumental in expanding the variety of fudge flavors now available, while Dean embraced his role as "candy man" — a beloved presence in the shop and within the community.

Today, Dean's wife Jeannie, their daughter, Daisy, and her husband Pat carry on the third generation of this sweet family business at the Mackinaw City storefront. There'll be lots to look forward to in our centennial year, and we want you along to celebrate with us!
